AI Technical Summary
Current biodegradable plastics, such as PLA and PVA, lack widespread use in products containing plant seeds, and there is a need for bio-based materials that degrade completely within a short time and provide food sources for wildlife, particularly wild bees.
Development of biodegradable products using isomalt as a base material that completely degrades within a short time and includes plant seeds, offering a food source for wild bees, with an optional variant lacking seeds for form-giving material.
Promotes the transition from conventional plastics to bio-based and biodegradable products, enhances environmental sustainability by providing food for insects, and reduces plastic waste.
Abstract
Description
[0001] Currently, so-called "BIO BBs" are based on "biodegradable" plastics such as PLA, PVA, etc.
[0002] There are very few / no products in this direction that are truly based on bio-based materials and none that contain plant seeds.
[0003] The novel aspect of this idea (see patent claims) is its complete biodegradability within a relatively short time, the entirely bio-based nature of the material used (isomalt), and the fact that the product contains seeds of plants that provide a particularly good food source for wild bees. These seeds are intended to sprout around the material after it dissolves. This results in a second product variant (see patent claims) that consists only of the shaping material and contains no plant seeds.
[0004] The goal, besides economic success, is to influence the widespread use of conventional plastic balls, at least when playing in nature, to such an extent that more and more people switch to bio-based and biodegradable products.
[0005] This shift in thinking shouldn't just affect consumers, but also manufacturing. Perhaps even using plant seeds to provide insects with more food and thus positively impact the environment on a small scale. Not least because there will no longer be plastic pellets littering the environment; instead, there will be nothing.
