Abstract
Description
[0001] At this point, Nerf darts and any duplicates are made of PVC. I know of only one manufacturer that has also developed biodegradable darts, but I'm not familiar with the material.
[0002] There are very few / no products in this direction that are truly based on bio-based materials and none that contain plant seeds.
[0003] What's new about this idea (see patent claims) is its complete biodegradability within a relatively short time, the completely biobased nature of the material used (papier-mâché, in this case made from (recycled) paper (=wood fibers) and potato starch), and the fact that the product contains seeds from plants that are a good food source, especially for wild bees. These are supposed to sprout around the material after it dissolves.
[0004] This creates a second product variant (see claims), which consists only of the shaping material and does not contain any plant seeds.
[0005] The goal, in addition to economic success, is to influence the widespread use of conventional foam darts, at least when playing outdoors, so that more and more people switch to bio-based and biodegradable products.
[0006] But this rethinking shouldn't just affect consumers, but also manufacturing. Perhaps even with plant seeds to provide insects with more food and thus have a positive impact on the environment on a small scale. Not least in the aspect that there will be no more foam darts lying around in the environment, and instead: nothing.
Claims
[1] Fully biodegradable & bio-based arrows for Nerf Blasters with and without plant seeds, characterized by that papier-mâché and starch are used as the shaping material of the arrow. [2] Arrows for Nerf Blaster according to claim 1, characterized by that papier-mâché and starch are used as the main material of the arrow. [3] Arrows for Nerf Blaster according to claim 1, characterized by that papier-mâché and starch are used for the purpose of biodegradability & proven bio-basedness. [4] Arrows for Nerf Blaster according to claim 1, characterized by that plant seeds are contained in the arrows. [5] Arrows for Nerf Blaster according to claim 1, characterized by that isomalt is used as a “protective coating” around the seeds to prevent them from coming into contact with too much moisture during the drying process and thus sprouting prematurely. [6] Arrows for Nerf Blaster according to claim 1, characterized bythat there are no plant seeds in the arrows.
