Abstract

Description

[0001] The invention relates to a suitcase with two shells that can be converted into a child's travel cot by placing a lying surface on the open suitcase shells and attaching rods to the shells via a swivel fastener. These rods hold a fabric panel that prevents the child from falling out. The space-saving mechanism allows the suitcase to still offer storage space for travel accessories, clothing, and similar items despite its additional function.

[0002] A suitcase of this type is known to be a convertible suitcase that transforms into a child's bed. It consists of two suitcase shells connected by hinges along one long side. When unfolded, the outer surfaces of the suitcase shells, together with an integrated slatted frame, form a flat sleeping surface. Headboards and footboards are provided at the short ends and are connected by crossbars to stabilize the bed. When folded, the headboards and footboards become part of the respective suitcase shells. The suitcase is designed to function as both a transport container and a child's bed while reducing weight, thanks to the use of specific materials such as polypropylene (PP) or fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP). The travel bed forms a single unit with the storage container and, when folded, offers interior storage space.

[0003] In contrast to the suitcase described above, which converts into a crib and where the suitcase shells and head / foot sections are hinged and connected by crossbars, the invention aims to provide a suitcase that does not require any hinged or swiveling components. Instead, it seeks to achieve particularly easy handling through combinable elements that, when used as a crib, create a stable and comfortable sleeping surface suitable for sleeping or changing the child. Simultaneously, the construction should be robust, weight-optimized, and intuitive for the user. Furthermore, this invention allows the inside of the suitcase shells to be transformed into a crib, so that items can remain in the suitcase shells beneath the sleeping surface.

[0004] This problem is solved by a suitcase that features a simplified locking mechanism for the head and foot sections, and in which the crossbars are replaced by rods that are inserted into receptacles attached to the corners of the suitcase shells.
