Switching device (10) for controlling an electrical switching operation, comprising: a flush-mounted insert (20) in which at least one switching element (21) is arranged; a surface-mounted cover (30) with a bearing (31) in which a switching transmission element (40) is mounted, wherein the switching transmission element (40) is configured to convert a mechanical actuation of an operating element (50) of the switching device into an actuation of at least one switching element (21), wherein the bearing (31) is configured such that the switching transmission element (40) can perform both a rotational movement and a translational movement relative to the surface-mounted cover (30).
