Description
[0001] The invention relates to a pressure sensor assembly for a motor vehicle for impact detection.
[0002] Pressure sensor assemblies in motor vehicles are now widespread. Such a pressure sensor assembly typically comprises a pressure sensor unit arranged inside an assembly housing, which, for example, includes a diaphragm as a sensing element inside a pressure sensor housing. When the pressure sensor unit or the sensing element of a pressure sensor assembly is exposed to pressure, in particular air pressure, the diaphragm reacts by changing its shape. This change in shape causes one or more properties of electronic components, in particular resistors, on the diaphragm to change. These changing properties can then be measured, and the pressure can then be determined from this.
[0003] Typically, such a pressure sensor assembly is used in a motor vehicle as part of a safety system for impact detection. The pressure sensor assembly continuously measures the pressure in a largely enclosed cavity and transmits the data to a control unit for an airbag. For this purpose, such a pressure sensor assembly is installed, in particular, in the interior of a vehicle side door or in a similar cavity of the motor vehicle and is mounted, for example, at an opening in a wall of such a cavity. The pressure in the cavity is fed to the pressure sensor unit and ultimately to the sensing element via a pressure inlet in the assembly housing. The pressure increase in the cavity that occurs during an impact is recorded and evaluated, and based on this, a side impact on the motor vehicle can be detected and suitable protective mechanisms for the vehicle occupants, such as side airbags, can be triggered.
[0004] To ensure that the pressure prevailing in the interior of the assembly housing does not influence the pressure measurement and, if possible, to prevent contaminants or moisture from penetrating, an air duct leading from the pressure inlet of the assembly housing to the pressure sensor unit, and in particular the sensing element of the pressure sensor unit, is regularly sealed off from the interior of the assembly housing by means of a sealing element. This means that the pressure sensor unit or the sensing element is exposed to the ambient air in the cavity and thus to the corresponding air pressure in the cavity. A disadvantage of conventional sealing elements, however, is that they often do not ensure an adequate sealing function when installed and / or their surface at least partially covers or covers relevant areas of the pressure sensor unit to which the pressure is actually intended to be supplied, thereby impairing pressure detection and determination.
[0005] DE 44 47 513 A1 describes a pressure sensor assembly for a motor vehicle for crash detection. The pressure sensor assembly comprises an assembly housing formed from an upper housing part and a lower housing part, and a printed circuit board arranged in this assembly housing, to which a pressure sensor is mounted. The upper housing part of the assembly housing has a pressure inlet designed as an opening for establishing an operative connection between the pressure sensor and the environment of the assembly housing. A sealing body surrounding the pressure sensor is clamped between the printed circuit board and the upper housing part, below the pressure inlet of the assembly housing.
[0006] The present invention is based on the object of providing a pressure sensor assembly for a motor vehicle for impact detection, which enables the most reliable and robust pressure detection possible.
[0007] The above object is achieved by the teaching of claim 1. Advantageous embodiments and further developments of the invention are set out in the subclaims and the following description.
[0008] The pressure sensor assembly according to the invention for a motor vehicle for impact detection has a pressure sensor unit inside an assembly housing, wherein the pressure sensor unit comprises a sensing element arranged inside a pressure sensor housing for detecting an air pressure, and wherein the pressure sensor housing has a pressure supply opening for supplying the air pressure from a pressure inlet of the assembly housing to the sensing element. A sealing element for sealing the pressure supply opening from the interior of the assembly housing is arranged between the pressure sensor housing and an assembly housing wall in such a way that the sealing element encloses the pressure supply opening and fluidly connects the pressure inlet to the pressure supply opening. The sealing element has a through-hole extending in the axial direction and comprises a base body with an outer wall and an inner wall surrounding the through-hole and with a lower axial end and an upper axial end, wherein the inner wall of the base body has a first wall section widening towards the lower axial end, wherein the lower axial end of the base body faces the pressure sensor housing, and wherein the first wall section forms a contact surface for contact with the pressure sensor housing, against which the pressure sensor housing rests at least in part.
[0009] The invention is initially based on the consideration that pressure detection depends essentially on the supply of pressure to the pressure sensor unit or the sensing element and thus in particular on the pressure transmission within the assembly sensor housing to the pressure supply opening of the pressure sensor housing. In this case, the correct sealing of the pressure supply opening is of great importance in that the pressure supply opening is sealed as completely as possible from the interior of the assembly housing and the pressure supply opening is not covered or covered by the surface of the corresponding sealing element. Furthermore, the invention is based on the consideration that a corresponding sealing element must be designed as optimally as possible for a specific installation situation of the components of the pressure sensor assembly and must also take into account and compensate for manufacturing and installation tolerances of the corresponding components. Therefore, the invention provides in particular that the inner wall of the base body of the sealing element has a first wall section widening towards the lower axial end of the base body, wherein the lower axial end of the base body faces the pressure sensor housing in the assembled state, ie that in the assembled state the first wall section is formed at the pressure sensor housing-side end of the inner wall of the base body.Such a design can ensure, or at least significantly increase the probability, that even when relatively large manufacturing and installation tolerances occur, the sealing element around the pressure supply opening, in particular on the pressure sensor housing, seals as completely as possible and the pressure supply opening is not covered or covered by the surface of the sealing element or is covered only to an insignificant extent, whereby the required pressure transmission to the sensing element is ultimately ensured.
[0010] The embodiment according to the invention has the advantage that it provides a pressure sensor assembly for a motor vehicle for impact detection, which enables the most reliable and robust pressure detection possible.
[0011] The base body can in particular have a circular, oval, polygonal or rectangular cross-sectional shape.
[0012] The first wall section of the inner wall of the base body is arranged in the area and in particular directly at the lower axial end of the base body.
[0013] Advantageously, the inner wall of the base body has a first wall section which continuously widens towards the lower axial end.
[0014] The through-hole of the sealing element is particularly designed to transmit the air pressure from a pressure inlet of the assembly housing through the sealing element to the pressure supply opening of the pressure sensor housing and ultimately to the sensing element when the sealing element is mounted. The through-hole can be fluidically connected to the pressure inlet directly or indirectly, for example, via a pressure channel extending through an assembly housing wall.
[0015] The pressure supply opening is expediently formed on a pressure sensor housing cover, which in the context of this invention can be understood as a component of the pressure sensor housing.
[0016] The pressure sensor housing of the pressure sensor unit has at least one pressure supply opening. However, it is also possible for the pressure sensor housing to have more than one pressure supply opening, in particular two pressure supply openings. If there are more than one pressure supply opening, the sealing element is arranged in the assembled state in particular such that the sealing element encloses all pressure supply openings as far as possible and fluidly connects the pressure inlet to the pressure supply openings. In this case, the sealing element expediently lies as completely as possible against at least one of the pressure supply openings, and at least this one pressure supply opening is not covered or covered by the surface of the sealing element, or is covered only to an insignificant extent.
[0017] The first wall section forms a contact surface for contact with the pressure sensor housing, against which the pressure sensor housing rests at least partially in the assembled state. The first wall section, which widens towards the lower axial end of the base body in the unassembled state, enables a sufficiently secure sealing function, whereby for this purpose a relatively small corresponding area on the pressure sensor housing is in contact with the surface of the sealing element and is thus covered by the surface of the sealing element. This enables, in particular, a high degree of variability with regard to an installation position of the sealing element in relation to the position of the pressure sensor housing and in particular to the position of the pressure supply opening of the pressure sensor housing, at which a sufficiently secure sealing function is ensured and at the same time the pressure supply opening is prevented from being covered or covered.
[0018] In an advantageous embodiment, the inner wall of the base body has a second wall section which widens towards the first wall section, advantageously widening continuously, wherein the second wall section has a second degree of widening which is different from a first degree of widening of the first wall section. The second wall section therefore adjoins the first wall section in particular directly. Such a design with two wall sections with a different degree of widening further promotes the variability of the installation position of the sealing element and thus a large tolerance range. Preferably, the first degree of widening is greater than the second degree of widening. In this way, in particular, the probability is further increased that, in the assembled state, the pressure supply opening is not covered or covered by the surface of the sealing element.
[0019] In a further advantageous embodiment, the base body is essentially hollow-cylindrical, with the outer wall being designed as an outer peripheral wall and the inner wall as an inner peripheral wall, and with the first wall section of the inner peripheral wall widening conically toward the lower axial end. This represents a particularly suitable configuration of the base body and the first wall section, which enables relatively simple manufacture and assembly of the sealing element and ensures a sufficiently reliable sealing function while avoiding the surface of the sealing element covering or covering the pressure supply opening.
[0020] In a further advantageous embodiment, the second wall section of the inner peripheral wall widens conically towards the first wall section, wherein the second wall section has a second opening angle different from a first opening angle of the first wall section, and wherein the first opening angle is preferably greater than the second opening angle.
[0021] In a further advantageous embodiment, the first opening angle is selected from a range of 90° to 160°, preferably from a range of 120° to 135°. Such a first opening angle of the first wall section is particularly suitable for ensuring a reliable sealing function, whereby a particularly small corresponding area on the pressure sensor housing is in contact with the surface of the sealing element and is thus covered or overlapped by the sealing element.
[0022] In a further advantageous embodiment, the second opening angle is selected from a range of 30° to 90°, preferably from a range of 55° to 70°. Such a second opening angle of the second wall section ensures to a particularly high degree that the pressure supply opening, in the assembled state, is not covered or overlapped by the surface of the sealing element, or is only covered to an insignificant extent.
[0023] In a further advantageous embodiment, the base body is elastically designed; advantageously, the base body is made of an elastic material. The elastically deformable base body allows the sealing element to be clamped between the pressure sensor housing and an assembly housing wall, thus positioning it as securely as possible. Furthermore, the elastic deformability of the base body further contributes to the fact that, in the assembled state of the sealing element, the base body is pressed against the pressure sensor housing, subject to a certain amount of deformation, in such a way that the surface of the sealing element is prevented from covering or overlapping the pressure supply opening as much as possible, or the extent of the covering or overlap is at least reduced.
[0024] In a further advantageous embodiment, the sealing element comprises a substantially plate-shaped support element, which has a flat support surface for supporting the sealing element on the module housing wall. When the sealing element is mounted, the support element thus rests with its support surface in a sealing manner against the module housing wall, which is particularly flat in the region of the support surface.
[0025] The support element advantageously adjoins the upper axial end of the base body, wherein the support surface is formed on the surface of the support element facing away from the axial end of the base body.
[0026] In a further advantageous embodiment, the support element has a substantially rectangular basic shape, preferably a substantially square basic shape. The corners of the support element are expediently rounded. The section of the through-hole of the sealing element that extends through the support element is located, in particular, in the center of the support element. Such a design makes the support element, and thus the sealing element as a whole, relatively simple and cost-effective to manufacture and install.
[0027] Advantageously, the through-hole in the support element has a first inlet section that widens, preferably continuously, towards the support surface. In an advantageous embodiment, the through-hole in the support element has a first inlet section that widens conically towards the support surface. In the assembled state of the sealing element, the first inlet section thus faces the module housing wall. Preferably, the first inlet section faces an outlet opening of a pressure channel that leads through the module housing wall and fluidically connects the pressure inlet of the module housing to the through-hole of the sealing element. Preferably, the outlet opening of the pressure channel and at least the first inlet section of the through-hole are coaxial with one another. This design of the through-hole in the support element enables the air pressure to be reliably supplied from the pressure inlet of the assembly housing to the sensing element of the pressure sensor unit via the through-hole of the sealing element within a wide tolerance range with regard to manufacturing and installation tolerances.
[0028] In a further advantageous embodiment, the through-hole in the support element is designed as a cylindrical bore in a second inlet section, wherein the second inlet section adjoins the upper axial end of the base body. Preferably, the second inlet section is located directly between the first inlet section of the support element and the upper axial end of the base body; in a suitable embodiment, directly between the first inlet section of the support element and the second wall section of the base body, whereby the cylindrical bore fluidically connects the first inlet section of the support element to the section of the through-hole formed in the base body.
[0029] In a further advantageous embodiment, a third opening angle of the first inlet section is selected from a range of 90° to 160°, preferably from a range of 120° to 135°. Such a third opening angle of the first inlet section represents a particularly suitable compromise between a sufficiently reliable sealing function and a sufficiently large tolerance range with regard to manufacturing and installation tolerances.
[0030] In a further advantageous embodiment, the first inlet section comprises a second inlet section region with a third opening angle and a first inlet section region with a fourth opening angle different from the third opening angle, wherein the first inlet section region is formed at an axial end region of the first inlet section facing away from the lower axial end of the base body, and wherein preferably the fourth opening angle is greater than the third opening angle.By means of a first inlet section designed in this way with a first inlet section region which has a fourth opening angle which is different from the third opening angle of the second inlet section region and is preferably larger, the production of the sealing element by means of a corresponding tool, in particular an injection molding tool, is facilitated, which further has a positive effect on the manufacturing and installation tolerances and thus on the sealing function.
[0031] In a further advantageous embodiment, the sealing element is formed in one piece. This facilitates the manufacture and assembly of the sealing element and has a positive effect on the overall sealing function as well as the durability and service life of the sealing element. Advantageously, the sealing element is designed to be elastic as a whole.
[0032] Preferably, the pressure sensor assembly has a pressure channel passing through the assembly housing wall and fluidically connecting the pressure inlet of the assembly housing to the through-hole of the sealing element, wherein an outlet opening of the pressure channel and the through-hole are preferably located substantially coaxially to one another.
[0033] Embodiments of the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to a drawing. In the drawings: Fig. 1 in a perspective view of a sealing element in a view from below, Fig. 2 in a perspective view of the sealing element according to Fig. 1 in a view from above, Fig. 3 in a perspective view the sealing element according to Fig. 1 in a cross-section, and Fig. 4 in a perspective sectional view of a pressure sensor assembly with a built-in sealing element according to Fig. 1 bis 3 .
[0034] Corresponding parts are always provided with the same reference symbols in all figures.
[0035] In the Fig. 1 bis 3 An exemplary embodiment of a sealing element 1 is shown in perspective views in different views. The sealing element 1 is formed in one piece and is designed for arrangement inside an assembly housing of a pressure sensor assembly 2 for a motor vehicle for impact detection.
[0036] Fig. 1 shows the sealing element 1 in a perspective view from below. The sealing element 1 has a through-hole 3 running in the axial direction and comprises a substantially hollow-cylindrical base body 4 with an outer peripheral wall 5 and an inner peripheral wall 6 surrounding the through-hole 3, as well as with a lower axial end 7 and an upper axial end 8. The inner peripheral wall 6 of the base body 4 has a first wall section 9 that widens conically towards the lower axial end 7. The first wall section 9 of the inner peripheral wall 6 of the base body 4 is therefore arranged at the lower axial end 7 of the base body 4.
[0037] The first wall section 9 forms a contact surface 10 for contact with a pressure sensor housing 11 of a pressure sensor unit 12 arranged inside the assembly housing. In the assembled state, the pressure sensor housing 11 therefore rests at least partially against the contact surface 10.
[0038] The first wall section 9 of the base body 4 of the sealing element 1, which widens conically towards the lower axial end 7 in the unassembled state, enables a sufficiently secure sealing function, wherein for this purpose a relatively small corresponding area on the pressure sensor housing 11 is in contact with the surface of the sealing element 1 and is thus covered or concealed by the surface of the sealing element 1. This enables, in particular, a high degree of variability with regard to an installation position of the sealing element 1 in relation to the position of the pressure sensor housing 11 and in particular to the position of a pressure supply opening 13 of the pressure sensor housing 11, at which a sufficiently secure sealing function is ensured and covering or overlaying of the pressure supply opening 13 is prevented.
[0039] Furthermore, the inner peripheral wall 6 of the base body 4 has a second wall section 14 that widens conically toward the first wall section 9, the second wall section 14 directly adjoining the first wall section 9. The second wall section 14 has a second opening angle 16 that is smaller than a first opening angle 15 of the first wall section 9. In other words, the first opening angle 15 is larger than the second opening angle 16. The first opening angle 15 is 127°, and the second opening angle 16 is 63°.
[0040] The first opening angle 15 with a value of 127° is particularly suitable for ensuring a reliable sealing function, whereby for this purpose, in the assembled state, a particularly small corresponding area on the pressure sensor housing 11 is in contact with the surface of the sealing element 1 and is thus covered by the sealing element 1. The second opening angle 16 with a value of 63° additionally ensures that the pressure supply opening 13 is not covered or overlapped by the surface of the sealing element 1 in the assembled state, or is only covered to an insignificant extent. Overall, such a configuration further promotes the variability of the installation position of the sealing element 1 and thus a large tolerance range, and the probability that the pressure supply opening 13 is not covered or overlapped by the surface of the sealing element 1 in the assembled state is further increased.
[0041] Furthermore, the base body 4 is elastically designed, whereby the sealing element 1 can be clamped between the pressure sensor housing 11 and a component housing wall of the component housing and thus arranged as securely as possible. Furthermore, the elastic deformability of the base body 4 further contributes to the fact that, in the assembled state of the sealing element 1, the base body 4 is pressed against the pressure sensor housing 11, subject to a certain deformation, in such a way that the surface of the sealing element 1 is prevented from covering or overlapping the pressure supply opening 13 as far as possible, or the extent of the covering or overlap is at least reduced.
[0042] The sealing element 1 further comprises a substantially plate-shaped support element 17, which is directly connected to the upper axial end 8 of the base body 4.
[0043] The support element 17 has a flat support surface 18 for supporting the sealing element 1 on the module housing wall. This is shown in Fig. 2 can be seen from a perspective view of the sealing element 1 in a view from above.
[0044] In the assembled state of the sealing element 1, the support element 17 with its support surface 18 thus lies sealingly against the module housing wall, which is also designed to be flat in the area of the support surface 18.
[0045] As also in Fig. 2 As can be clearly seen, the support element 17 has a square basic shape with rounded corners, wherein the section of the through-hole 3 of the sealing element 1 extending through the support element 17 lies in the center of the support element 17. Due to such a design, the support element 17 and thus the sealing element 1 as a whole can be manufactured and assembled relatively easily and inexpensively.
[0046] The through-hole 3 has a first inlet section 19 in the support element 17 that widens conically toward the support surface 18. A third opening angle 20 of the first inlet section 19 is 125°. This represents a particularly suitable compromise between a sufficiently reliable sealing function and a sufficiently large tolerance range with regard to manufacturing and installation tolerances.
[0047] Furthermore, the through-hole 3 in the support element 17 is designed as a cylindrical bore in a second inlet section 21, wherein the second inlet section 21 adjoins the upper axial end 8 of the base body 4. The second inlet section 21 lies directly between the first inlet section 19 of the support element 17 and the second wall section 14 of the base body 4, whereby the cylindrical bore thus fluidically connects the first inlet section 19 of the support element 17 with the section of the through-hole 3 formed in the base body 4.
[0048] In the assembled state of the sealing element, the first inlet section 19 faces the assembly housing wall in such a way that the first inlet section 19 faces an outlet opening of a pressure channel leading through the assembly housing wall and fluidically connecting a pressure inlet of the assembly housing to the through-hole 3 of the sealing element 1, wherein the outlet opening of the pressure channel and the first inlet section 19 of the through-hole 3 are coaxial to one another.
[0049] The design of the through-hole 3 in the support element 17 enables the air pressure to be reliably supplied from the pressure inlet of the assembly housing via the through-hole 3 of the sealing element 1 to the pressure sensor unit 12 within a wide tolerance range with regard to manufacturing and installation tolerances.
[0050] In Fig. 3 Essential structural designs of the sealing element 1 are once again clearly illustrated using a perspective view of the sealing element 1 in a cross section.
[0051] Here, the essentially hollow-cylindrical base body 4 and the essentially plate-shaped support element 17, which is directly adjacent to the upper axial end 8 of the base body 4, as well as the through-recess 3 running in the axial direction can be seen.
[0052] In addition, the first wall section 9, which widens conically toward the lower end 7, and the second wall section 14 of the inner peripheral wall 6 of the base body 4, which widens conically toward the first wall section 9, are clearly visible. It can be seen that the first opening angle 15 of the first wall section 9, at 127°, is larger than the second opening angle 16 of the second wall section 14, at 63°.
[0053] Also visible are the first inlet section 19, which widens conically towards the support surface 18 of the support element 17, and the second inlet section 21, which is designed as a cylindrical bore, of the through-hole 3 in the support element 17.
[0054] Fig. 4 shows in a perspective sectional view a pressure sensor assembly 2 with a built-in sealing element 1 according to Fig. 1 bis 3 .
[0055] The pressure sensor assembly 2 for a motor vehicle for impact detection comprises a schematically illustrated pressure sensor unit 12 inside an assembly housing (not shown), wherein the pressure sensor unit 12 has a sensing element (not shown) arranged inside a pressure sensor housing 11 for detecting an air pressure in the interior of a vehicle side door. The pressure sensor housing 11 has a pressure supply opening 13 for supplying the air pressure from a pressure inlet of the assembly housing to the sensing element, wherein the sealing element 1 for sealing the pressure supply opening 13 from the interior of the assembly housing is arranged between the pressure sensor housing 11 and an assembly housing wall (not shown) in such a way that the sealing element 1 encloses the pressure supply opening 13 and fluidly connects the pressure inlet to the pressure supply opening 13.
[0056] The pressure sensor housing 11 rests partially against the contact surface 10 of the base body 4 of the sealing element 1, which is formed by the first wall section 9, thereby ensuring a sufficiently secure sealing function while stressing a relatively small area on the pressure sensor housing 11 that is in contact with the surface of the sealing element 1. This enables a high degree of variability with regard to the installation position of the sealing element 1 in relation to the position of the pressure sensor housing 11 and in particular to the position of the pressure supply opening 13 of the pressure sensor housing 11, at which a sufficiently secure sealing function is ensured while preventing the pressure supply opening 13 from being covered or covered. The second wall section 14 of the base body 4 of the sealing element 1 additionally contributes to ensuring that the pressure supply opening 13 is not covered or covered by the surface of the sealing element 1.
[0057] Furthermore, the support element 17 of the sealing element 1 rests sealingly against the module housing wall with its flat support surface 18. The first inlet section 19 of the through-hole 3, which widens conically toward the support surface 18, faces the module housing wall in such a way that the first inlet section 19 faces an outlet opening (not shown) of a pressure channel (not shown) leading through the module housing wall and fluidically connecting a pressure inlet of the module housing to the through-hole 3 of the sealing element 1, wherein the outlet opening of the pressure channel and the first inlet section 19 of the through-hole 3 are coaxial to one another. The design of the through-hole 3 in the support element 17 enables the air pressure to be reliably supplied from the pressure inlet of the assembly housing via the through-hole 3 of the sealing element 1 to the pressure sensor unit 12 within a wide tolerance range with regard to manufacturing and installation tolerances.
[0058] Due to the elastic design of the base body 4, the sealing element 1 is clamped between the pressure sensor housing 11 and the module housing wall, subject to a certain elastic deformation, particularly of the base body 4, and is thus fixed in position. Furthermore, the elastic deformation, particularly of the base body 4, further contributes to the base body 4 being pressed against the pressure sensor housing 11 in such a way that the surface of the sealing element 1 prevents the pressure supply opening 13 from being covered or overlapped.
