Description

[0001] The invention relates to a garment bag.

[0002] Garment bags are well-known and are used to protect clothes hanging on hangers. Many laundries use disposable garment bags made of plastic to pack their customers' freshly washed clothes for transport. The use of such disposable garment bags has the disadvantage of generating a lot of waste, as customers usually discard them after transporting their clothes just once. Garment bags made of higher-quality materials are also available. These higher-quality garment bags are generally used to pack newly purchased suits or similar items, making it easier for customers to transport their newly purchased items home. These higher-quality garment bags can also be purchased separately, for example, for transporting suits while traveling. These higher-quality garment bags are generally not used to transport soiled laundry to the dry cleaners, as soiled laundry does not require such elaborate protection, and packing soiled laundry in such a garment bag is laborious and time-consuming. A garment bag according to the preamble of claim 1 is known from US2011 / 000803A1.

[0003] It is an object of the present invention to provide a garment bag by means of which clean, but also dirty, laundry can be transported in a practical manner.

[0004] The object is achieved by a garment bag having the features of claim 1 and in particular in that the garment bag has a first section and a second section, wherein the first section is intended to be slipped into the second section and thereby the garment bag can be transformed into a laundry container forming a receiving volume.

[0005] In other words, the garment bag is designed to be transformed into a bag, open at the top when in use, by fitting one section of the garment bag into another. This allows a user to easily load soiled laundry into the bag or laundry container by simply placing the laundry from above into a receiving volume formed by the laundry container, and then place the soiled laundry in the laundry container for cleaning. After cleaning, the clean laundry can be safely transported home in the reconverted garment bag.

[0006] To ensure that the garments to be transported, such as cleaned and ironed shirts or women's dresses, can be transported crease-free in the garment bag in its basic configuration, the garment bag is flat – like standard garment bags for transporting suits, shirts, and similar garments. Furthermore, the garment bag – like standard garment bags for transporting suits, shirts, and similar garments – has a defined perimeter shape in its basic configuration, which is defined by a perimeter shape of a front side and a perimeter shape of a back side that is essentially the same shape and can be laid flat on the front side. The defined circumferential shape in combination with the relatively small depth of the garment bag creates a storage space which is particularly well suited for transporting cleaned and ironed garments hanging freely on at least one hanger without creating creases in the garments.

[0007] The front and back of particularly flat garment bags can be directly connected. Alternatively, a peripheral surface defining the thickness of the garment bag can be provided to create a garment bag with a deeper base configuration.

[0008] Advantageous embodiments of the invention can be found in the dependent claims, the description and the drawings.

[0009] According to one embodiment, the garment bag in its basic configuration has a width between 50 cm and 80 cm. In other words, a front and a back of the garment bag can have a maximum width of 50 cm to 80 cm. Preferably, the garment bag has a width between 55 cm and 70 cm. Alternatively or additionally, the garment bag in its basic configuration can have a length between 80 cm and 150 cm. In other words, a front and a back of the garment bag can have a maximum length of 80 cm to 150 cm. Preferably, the garment bag has a length of 90 cm to 130 cm.

[0010] According to one embodiment, the laundry container is designed to stand independently and thereby form the receiving volume. This has the advantage that the laundry container can be set up as a collection container for soiled laundry, thus eliminating the need for a separate laundry container. To ensure that the laundry container stands independently, it would be conceivable, according to an embodiment not according to the invention, to provide a rod or other framework structure on the laundry container, which, in an appropriate configuration, forms a support structure for the laundry container. The rod or other framework structure can be incorporated into the garment bag or laundry container or otherwise firmly connected to the garment bag or laundry container.

[0011] An embodiment of the invention that is particularly easy to manufacture and use results from the fact that the first section is made of less rigid material and the second section is made of more rigid material. The second section made of more rigid material can be designed, through appropriate selection of the more rigid material, in such a way that it can be stood upright when the second section, in its tubular state, is placed on one of its end faces. This allows the laundry container to be stood up independently solely due to the rigidity of the second section. Preferably, the front and the back are each made in sections from the less rigid material and in sections from the more rigid material. Alternatively, the garment bag can be made at least substantially entirely from a single material. This generally makes the garment bag more cost-effective to manufacture.

[0012] According to one embodiment, the second section, in its tubular state, has a substantially quadrangular, in particular square, cross-section. This is particularly advantageous when the laundry container has a base as described below. Alternatively, the second section, in its tubular state, can have a substantially round cross-section.

[0013] To ensure that the second section can stand independently in its tubular state while remaining robust, the stiffer material can be a coated textile, particularly one coated with a plastic. The stiffer material preferably has a plastic coating made of polyethylene. To keep out rainwater, for example, it is advantageous if the plastic coating is waterproof. The textile of the stiffer material can comprise cotton and / or polyester.

[0014] The less rigid material should be robust but easy to deform so that the first section can be easily folded into the second section. Furthermore, it is advantageous if the less rigid material has a low basis weight so that the laundry basket can stand upright and is easy to carry. Therefore, it is advantageous if the less rigid material is a textile, particularly a synthetic fiber textile. For example, the textile can be made of polyester. The basis weight of the less rigid material is preferably less than 170 g / m² and in particular less than 130 g / m².

[0015] According to one embodiment, at least two defined folding regions, in particular folds, are formed in the second section, which extend along the main direction of extension of the garment bag, i.e., in the vertical direction during intended use. The two folding regions or folds can be arranged between the front and the back and / or serve to allow the stiffer material to be folded onto one another. This ensures that the garment bag can assume its usual narrow or flat shape.

[0016] According to one embodiment, the second section has exactly four folding regions or folds. This allows the second section to be unfolded into a defined quadrilateral, in particular a square. In other words, the second section can have a predefined, quadrangular cross-section when the garment bag is transformed into the laundry container.

[0017] To ensure that the laundry container stands securely, especially when the second section consists of a textile structure, it is advantageous if the second section defines a closed cross-section. In other words, the second section has a completely circumferential surface at least at a certain height along the main direction of extent, which is therefore not interrupted, for example, by a zipper or the like. The second section preferably defines a closed cross-section in a base contact plane, i.e. at a lower edge of the second section. In other words, the laundry container preferably stands on its base with a completely circumferential lower edge of the second section.

[0018] According to one embodiment, the second section forms an outer peripheral surface of the laundry container. The second section thus forms an outer layer of the laundry container.

[0019] Preferably, the first section defines the storage volume of the laundry container. In this case, the first section forms an inner layer of the laundry container. The first section and the second section preferably form the entire outer surface of the garment bag.

[0020] To be able to wash the first section, which frequently comes into contact with dirty clothing, in a washing machine without the second section, it is advantageous if the first section and the second section are detachably connected. For this purpose, the first section and the second section can be connected and separated by means of a zipper. Alternatively, the first section and the second section can be connected and separated by means of several buttons, for example, snap fasteners.

[0021] According to one embodiment, the first section forms an upper part of the garment bag and the second section forms a lower part of the garment bag. Preferably, the first section essentially forms an upper half of the garment bag and the second section essentially forms the lower half of the garment bag. The first section can have a lower section which has a substantially constant width and an upper section which tapers towards an upper end of the garment bag. The second section can have essentially the same width as the lower section of the first section. As a result, the shape of the garment bag is adapted to the external shape of clothing hanging on hangers.

[0022] To ensure that the clothing stored in the garment bag does not get wet in the rain, it is advantageous if the garment bag is impregnated at least in sections, in particular the first and second sections completely, i.e. has a water-impermeable layer.

[0023] Garment bags have an opening for inserting clothing into the garment bag. The garment bag preferably has a closable opening for loading the garment bag with washed clothing. The opening can be completely closable, for example by means of a zipper, or partially closable, for example by means of several buttons. For loading ironed clothing, it is advantageous if the opening of the garment bag is arranged on the side. To ensure that ironed clothing does not develop creases when inserted into the garment bag, it is advantageous if the opening extends along the garment bag, preferably over more than 50% of the length of the garment bag in its main direction of extension, in particular more than 70% of the length of the garment bag in its main direction of extension. The opening preferably extends along the entire first section and part of the second section.

[0024] According to one embodiment, the garment bag has an opening in its upper end region for the insertion of at least one hook of a clothes hanger. The opening can form a common opening with the previously described opening for inserting clothing into the garment bag. As an alternative to the opening for the insertion of the hook of the clothes hanger, the garment bag itself can comprise a hanging device, for example a hook, for hanging the garment bag. In this case, but also generally, the garment bag can have a device for attaching at least one clothes hanger on its inside.

[0025] In order to make the opening for inserting at least one coat hanger hook through adaptable to different sizes and numbers of hooks, means can be provided to change the size of the opening. The means can additionally be provided to at least substantially completely close the opening for inserting clothing into the garment bag. Alternatively, separate means can be provided for changing the size of the opening for inserting coat hanger hooks and for closing the opening for inserting clothing into the garment bag. If means are provided for at least substantially completely closing the opening for inserting coat hanger hooks, this has the advantage that a first section defining the opening, when turned into the second section, ieWhen used as a laundry container, a volume of the laundry container that is closed at the bottom can be defined, thus preventing even small items of clothing from falling through the opening. For example, the means for changing the size of the opening for the insertion of coat hanger hooks can be designed as a zipper. Alternatively or additionally, the means can comprise a strap or tabs, the effective length of which is adjustable, in order to set the size of the opening for the insertion of coat hanger hooks. The means can be used to set predefined sizes of the opening. For this purpose, the means can comprise a plurality of buttons or holes.

[0026] When configured as a laundry container, the garment bag defines a filling and removal opening. This filling and removal opening is created when the first section of the garment bag is folded into the second section, as this creates a laundry container with a volume that is open at the top when in use. According to a further embodiment, closure means can be provided to at least partially, in particular essentially completely, close this filling and removal opening. The closure means can, for example, comprise a cord that is arranged along an edge of the filling and removal opening and preferably essentially completely surrounds the filling and removal opening. By pulling on the cord, the effective length of the cord and thus the circumferential length of an edge of the filling and removal opening can be shortened. To secure the effective length of the cord, the closure means may comprise a cord stopper that is movable along the cord and preferably fastened to the cord by means of a frictional connection. Alternatively, the closure means may comprise at least one zipper, a button, in particular a snap fastener, and / or another type of closure concept.

[0027] To make carrying the laundry bin easy, at least one handle or shoulder strap is preferably provided. Preferably, at least two handles and / or at least one shoulder strap are provided. The handles and / or shoulder straps are preferably attached to an upper region of the second section during intended use. The handles can be designed in the form of a strap, which is preferably coupled to the laundry bin at both ends. This allows the laundry bin to be carried in the hand, like a shopping bag. The at least one shoulder strap can, for example, be designed in the form of a cross-body shoulder strap, in order to support the weight of the filled laundry bin on the shoulder, like a messenger bag. It would also be conceivable to provide two shoulder straps, allowing the laundry bin to be carried on both shoulders, like a backpack.

[0028] The garment bag or laundry container can have a third section designed as a base. The third section designed as a base is preferably attached exclusively to two opposite inner sides of the second section. This allows the base to sag freely, similar to a hammock. It is also advantageous if, when the laundry container is full, the first section rests at least partially on the third section or base and the third section or base rests at least partially on the storage surface. This improves the longevity of the garment bag because, when the laundry container is placed down, the weight of the laundry does not have to be fully borne by the base of the laundry container, but is instead absorbed by the storage surface. The base is preferably attached to the second section in an area which is spaced from the storage surface contact plane or lower edge of the second section. The distance between the attachment area of the base and the surface contact plane or bottom edge can be between 3 and 7 cm. This makes the base less visible from the outside when the laundry bin is carried, which improves the overall visual impression. In this case, the base together with the second section forms an outer shell for the laundry bin, which securely holds the first section, which forms the storage volume, in position. The attachment of the base of the laundry bin to the second section, i.e. to the sides of the laundry bin, can be detachable to enable the base of the laundry bin to be washed separately. For example, the base of the laundry bin can be fastened to the sides using a zipper or several buttons. Alternatively, the attachment of the base of the laundry bin to the sides of the laundry bin can be permanent.

[0029] To enable easy folding of the laundry bin and also to minimize the likelihood of a lower end section of the first section forming the storage volume protruding from the laundry bin through a gap between the second section and the base when carrying the laundry bin, it is advantageous if the handles or shoulder straps are attached in angular regions of the second section where the base of the laundry bin is not attached to the second section. Preferably, the laundry bin forms four circumferential surface sections, with handles and / or shoulder straps attached to two opposite surface sections and the base of the laundry bin attached to the remaining two surface sections.

[0030] According to a further variant, the base can completely close the underside of the garment bag. For this purpose, the base can be formed from a separate piece of textile and be completely connected to the second part along a circumference of the garment bag. Alternatively, the base can be formed integrally with the second section and completely close off the interior volume defined by the garment bag. This has the advantage that no items of clothing can fall out of the garment bag, for example if they slip off their coat hanger. This variant of the base is particularly advantageous in combination with a garment bag made from a single material, as such a garment bag is easy to manufacture and therefore cost-effective.

[0031] The invention additionally relates to the use of a garment bag according to one of the embodiments described above or below. The use of the garment bag comprises loading the garment bag in its basic configuration with at least one item of clothing hanging on a clothes hanger, such as a shirt, a suit, or a dress. Depending on the use of the garment bag, the latter is transformed into a laundry container forming a receiving volume and / or a laundry container forming a receiving volume is transformed into a garment bag. The garment bag is transformed into the laundry container forming the receiving volume by folding a first section, in particular an upper section, of the garment bag into a second section, in particular a lower section, of the garment bag.In the reverse manner, the first section is pulled out of the second section of the garment bag to transform the laundry container back into the garment bag.

[0032] An advantage of this use is that the clean clothing transported in the garment bag and the dirty clothing stored and / or transported in the laundry container come into contact with different sides of the garment bag or laundry container, namely the clean clothing with the inside of the garment bag and the dirty clothing with the outside of the garment bag, thus preventing dirty clothing from indirectly soiling clean clothing.

[0033] Preferably, as already described, the first section of the garment bag is made of a less rigid material and the second section of a more rigid material. The first section can then be more easily folded into the second section to transform the garment bag into the laundry container forming the storage volume.

[0034] Preferably, the garment bag is transformed into a stand-alone laundry container that forms the receiving volume. Alternatively or additionally, depending on the intended use, a stand-alone laundry container that forms a receiving volume can be transformed into a garment bag. For this purpose, the second section can be designed to be rigid enough to stand independently.

[0035] The use of the garment bag may also include at least one of the following steps: Providing the garment bag, filling the garment bag with new or washed and ironed items of clothing so that the items of clothing come into contact with an inside of the garment bag, transporting the filled garment bag to a place of residence or other destination, removing items of clothing from the garment bag at the place of residence or other destination, filling the storage volume of the laundry container with dirty clothing so that the dirty clothing comes into contact with an outside of the garment bag, which at the same time defines a storage volume of the laundry container, transporting the laundry container together with dirty clothing to a washing machine or a laundry, preferably using handles attached to the laundry container, emptying the laundry container, refilling the garment bag with washed items of clothing so that the items of clothing come into contact with an inside of the garment bag.

[0036] The invention is described below using purely exemplary embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings. They show: Fig. 1 shows a garment bag according to the invention according to a first embodiment in its basic configuration; Fig. 2A shows a garment bag according to a further embodiment in its basic configuration in a laterally open state; Fig. 2B shows the garment bag of Fig. 2A in a state transformed into a laundry container; Fig. 2C the garment bag of Fig. 2A in a state which the laundry container assumes when it is carried filled with clothes; Fig. 3 a garment bag according to a further embodiment in its basic configuration; Fig. 4 the garment bag of Fig. 3 in a state transformed into a laundry container; and Fig. 4B the laundry container of Fig. 4A in a closed state.

[0037] Figur 1 shows a garment bag 10 which, as in the Fig. 2A bis 2C shown, is transformable into a laundry container 10'. The garment bag 10 has a front side 11a and a back side 11b. The garment bag 10 is in its Fig. 1 shown basic configuration is flat. In addition, the garment bag 10 has a circumferential shape defined by side edges of the front side 11a and back side 11b. In other words, the front side (11a) has a circumferential shape which corresponds to a circumferential shape of the back side 11b. The front side 11a and the back side 11b are connected to one another in sections at the perimeter, so that the front side 11a can be laid flat on the back side 11b. The garment bag 10 has an upper first section 12 and a lower second section 14. The first section 12 and the second section 14 together form a circumferentially sealable cover for clothing hanging on hangers. For loading the garment bag 10 with clothing hanging on hangers and for removing the clothing from the garment bag 10, an opening 16 (see Fig. 2A ). This opening 16 can be closed by means of a zipper 18, indicated by a dashed line, and can also be opened again by means of the zipper 18. The opening 16 extends along a main extension direction 19 of the garment bag 10 from an upper end region of the first section 12 into a region of the second section 14, but not completely along the second section 14, so that a lower region of the second section 14 always defines a closed cross-section. In the region of the second section 14, the zipper 18 is detachably connected to the second section 14, which is indicated by three buttons.

[0038] The first section 12 comprises a lower section 12a, which has a substantially constant width, and an upper section 12b, which tapers towards an upper end of the garment bag 10. In the upper end region of the garment bag 10, an opening 16' for the insertion of coat hanger hooks is provided. In the embodiment shown, the opening 16' for the insertion of coat hanger hooks merges into the opening 16 for loading the garment bag 10 with clothing hanging on hangers. In order to be able to adapt the size of the opening 16' for the insertion of coat hanger hooks to different types of coat hangers and different numbers of coat hangers, means 20 are used to change the size of the opening 16', shown here as a tab, which can be connected to a second tab by means of snap fasteners of various effective lengths. Many different variants for implementing the means 20 are conceivable.

[0039] The first section 12 is made of a flexible polyester fabric so that it can be inserted into the second section 14 without considerable effort. The second section 14, on the other hand, is made of a relatively stiff fabric that is coated on its inside with polyethylene. This relatively stiff fabric resembles an awning fabric. The first section 12 and the second section 14 are connected by means of a substantially fully circumferential zipper 22, which Fig. 1 represented by two parallel dashed lines, are detachably connected to each other. Furthermore, the zipper 18, as already mentioned, is detachably connected to the second section 14. This makes it possible to separate the first section 12 from the second section 14 in order to make the first section 12 easier to machine wash.

[0040] The second section 14 has a circumferential upper edge 24 and a circumferential lower edge 26, between which the second section 14 extends. The second section 14 is tubular. The upper edge 24 is arranged parallel to the lower edge 26. Four folds 28, spaced equidistantly along the circumference, extend vertically between the upper edge 24 and the lower edge 26 and serve to convert the second section 14 in a defined manner from a garment bag configuration (see Fig. 1 or 2 ) into a laundry container configuration (see Fig. 2B ) with a square base. As in Fig. 1 As can be seen, the second section 14 forms four surface sections 14a to 14d, each extending from one of the folds 28 to an adjacent fold 28. The surface sections 14a to 14d form a diamond-shaped cross-section in the garment bag configuration. In other words, two of the opposing folds 28 are more closely spaced in the garment bag configuration than the other two opposing folds 28. In order to transform the garment bag 10 into the clothing container 10' or the clothing container configuration, a user pulls the more closely spaced folds 28 away from each other until they are approximately the same distance apart as the other two opposing folds 28. Then, the first section 12, as in Fig 2B indicated by the arrows, into the second section 14. This creates an upwardly open, pocket- or bag-shaped, free-standing clothing container 10' with a defined storage volume 29.

[0041] A third section 30 made of textile is attached to the surface sections 14a and 14c, forming a base of the laundry container 10'. The third section 30 is connected to the surface sections 14a and 14c along a line that extends parallel to and spaced from the lower edge 26 of the second section 14. The third section 30 is longer than a maximum possible distance between the surface sections 14a and 14c, defined by a length of the lower edges of the surface sections 14b and 14d, so that the base 30 of the laundry container 10' sags - similar to a hammock. This is represented in the figures by two curved, dashed lines. In other words, the base 30 of the laundry container 10' forms a curved plane that defines a lower vertex line. The apex line is located with the laundry container raised 10' slightly below the lower edge 26, ieslightly outside the volume defined by the second section 14. This ensures that the base 30 and the first section 12 are subjected to less stress when the laundry container 10' is filled and placed down. The base 30 is also mounted at a distance from the lower edge 26 of the second section 14 so that the surface sections 14b and 14d can almost completely contact the curved outer edges of the base 30 and thus prevent the partial section 12b of the first section 12 from protruding through gaps formed between the base 30 and the surface sections 14b and 14d.

[0042] In the Fig. 2A bis 2C A variant of the garment bag 10 is shown which, in addition to the previously described features, also includes two handles 32. The handles 32 are each attached to an upper region of the surface sections 14b and 14d, i.e., those surface sections that are not connected to the bottom 30 of the laundry container 10'. In addition to or as an alternative to the handles 32 shown, shoulder straps can also be provided, which have the advantage of allowing the user to have their hands free when carrying the laundry container 10'. These shoulder straps can be detachably attached to the second section 14, for example, by means of buttons.

[0043] In the Fig. 3 , 4A und 4B A further variant of a garment bag 10 according to the invention is shown, which is simpler and therefore more cost-effective to produce. In comparison to the Fig. 1 In the variant shown, the first section 12 and the second section 14 of this variant are made of the same material, namely a flexible textile. Therefore, the garment bag 10 can be used in the configuration as a laundry container 10' (see Fig. 4A ) do not stand on their own. The bottom 30 of the garment bag 10 completely closes the underside of the garment bag 10 so that no items of clothing can fall out of the garment bag 10. In addition, in this variant, closure means 34 are provided to at least partially close a filling and removal opening 36 created by folding the first section 12 into the second section 14. In the variant shown, the closure means 34 comprise a cord 34a, which is incorporated into the garment bag along the filling and removal opening 36, and a cord stopper 34b for selectively shortening the effective length of the cord 34a. As shown in the Figuren 4A und 4B As shown, the closure means 34 can reduce the filling and removal opening 36 in such a way that individual laundry items can no longer fall out of the laundry container 10' through the filling and removal opening 36. The closure means 34 can alternatively be formed by a zipper or by several buttons. It is also conceivable that the Figuren 1 bis 2C shown variants with such closure means 34 in order to be able to at least partially close their respective filling and removal openings 36.
