Description

[0001] The invention relates to a paint roller according to the preamble of claim 1.

[0002] Such paint rollers are used in large numbers for painting the walls of buildings.

[0003] Known paint rollers, such as those described in DE 20 2007 07 383 U1, have a bow-shaped holder. The holder has a straight section at its rear end, on which a handle is provided, by which a user holds the paint roller. This section is followed by a curved section of the holder, whose front end is followed by another straight section, which has a roller bearing for rotatably supporting a paint roller. The longitudinal axis of the paint roller runs perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the handle.

[0004] The disadvantage of this paint roller is that the curved section of the holder protrudes laterally beyond the roller, which is mounted on the roller bearing. This impairs the functionality of the paint roller, as when painting corners of walls, the protruding part of the holder prevents the paint roller from reaching the corner. The protruding part of the holder often hits previously painted sections of the wall, which can cause damage.

[0005] US 2017 / 0036237 A1 relates to a paint roller with a holder featuring a handle. Two V-shaped roller holders extend from the holder, each of which supports a paint roller.

[0006] DE 20 2019 002 804 U1 concerns double wall and paint roller brackets equipped with two paint rollers. The paint roller brackets consist of bracket parts or bracket spindles of varying lengths. The bracket part with the paint roller is designed to be detachable from the spindle and bracket holder.

[0007] DE 10 52 877 B relates to a painting roller in which the end faces of the opposing cylindrical roller bodies have only a concave or convex shape. Due to the asymmetrical shape of the roller arms, their axles are offset from each other in such a way that the freely movable cylindrical roller bodies overlap slightly.

[0008] DE 298 13 808 U1 relates to a device for applying liquid to pasty media in a single operation to two or three surfaces that are preferably at right angles to each other and form an edge or corner. Two circular or truncated cone-shaped rollers are mounted on their conical axes so that they can rotate in a fixed manner, so that their outer surface lines form an angle that is complementary to the angle formed by the surfaces to be treated.

[0009] A paint roller of this type is known from US Pat. No. 3,612,707 A. The paint roller has a holder with a handle. At the front, free end of the holder is a flattened, plate-shaped section, from which roller bearings extend on both sides. The roller bearings run along a straight line oriented perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. A paint roller is mounted on each roller bearing. The paint rollers are positioned at a short distance from each other.

[0010] The disadvantage here is that the coatings of the paint rollers can easily gape apart when applying paint to a surface, so that a seamless application of paint cannot be guaranteed.

[0011] The invention is based on the object of providing a paint roller of the type mentioned above, which enables a seamless application of paint to a substrate.

[0012] To achieve this object, the features of claim 1 are provided. Advantageous embodiments and expedient developments of the invention are described in the dependent claims.

[0013] The invention relates to a paint roller with a holder having a handle, wherein the holder has a roller bearing. A paint roller is rotatably mounted on this. Two roller bearings are provided, which open out on opposite sides of the holder, wherein a paint roller can be mounted on each roller bearing. The coverings of the paint rollers adjoin one another at least approximately without gaps. The holder has an outlet region at its upper end, wherein the roller bearings open out on opposite outlet sides of the outlet region. The end faces of the tubular base body are arranged opposite one another at the outlet region. Conically shaped, elastically deformable covering segments that widen towards the outlet region are pressed against one another on the end faces of the tubular base body.At the end faces of the tubular base body, elastically deformable conical base body segments, onto which coating segments are applied, extend. Due to the conical shape of the base body segments, the coating segments protrude outward beyond the outer surface of the respective tubular base body with the coating applied there. When applying paint, the paint rollers are guided against a base. There, the coating segments are elastically deformed and pressed together so that they are at least approximately seamlessly connected to one another, thus ensuring a seamless application of paint with the paint roller.

[0014] The basic idea of the invention is therefore to provide a holder as the central element, with two roller bearings opening out on opposite sides of this holder, each of which holds a paint roller. The paint rollers form the upper end of the paint roller, with the holder opening out downwards centrally between them. This prevents the holder from projecting laterally over the paint rollers. This is particularly advantageous because corner areas of walls can now be painted with any paint roller, with the end of a paint roller being able to be guided directly against the wall forming the corner. This also prevents damage to the walls when painting corner areas, as there is no annoying lateral projection of the holder over the paint rollers.

[0015] Another significant advantage is that the coatings of both paint rollers mounted on the holder complement each other to create a larger combined coating surface. This allows for large-scale painting of walls.

[0016] The disadvantage of conventional paint rollers with a bow-shaped holder is that paint drips from the roller's surface onto the end of the holder. This disadvantage is avoided with the paint roller according to the invention by ensuring that the roller's surfaces fit tightly together on the holder.

[0017] Furthermore, with the paint roller according to the invention, it is possible to provide paint collecting means on the holder to collect paint dripping from the paint rollers. This is possible with the paint roller according to the invention, in contrast to paint rollers with bracket-shaped holders, because the holder is not attached laterally from the paint rollers, but rather downwards. The paint collecting means can be designed, for example, in the form of sponges, drip trays, and the like. These are advantageously mounted directly below the paint rollers.

[0018] Advantageously, the longitudinal axes of the roller bearings run along a straight line forming a roller axis, i.e. the paint rollers are mounted so they can rotate around a common axis of rotation and thus complement each other to form an enlarged overall paint roller, with which larger areas in particular can be painted.

[0019] In the paint roller according to the invention, the roller axes run transversely, in particular perpendicularly, to the longitudinal axis of the holder, with the holder advantageously running along a straight line. The paint roller according to the invention thus has a structurally simple and ergonomically favorable design.

[0020] With the paint roller according to the invention, different designs can be realized by varying the roller bearings. In particular, it is possible for the roller bearings to be of different lengths, so that paint rollers of different lengths or widths can be stored there.

[0021] What is particularly advantageous, however, is that both the roller bearings and the paint rollers are designed identically.

[0022] According to the invention, the holder has an outlet region at its upper end, wherein the roller bearings open out on opposite outlet sides of the outlet region.

[0023] With this design, annoying overhangs of the holder above the top of the paint rollers are avoided by appropriately dimensioning the outlet area. The outlet sides of the outlet area form guide surfaces along which the adjacent ends of the paint rollers are guided.

[0024] Particularly advantageous are the outlet sides designed as sliding surfaces.

[0025] The sliding surfaces can be realized using suitable materials, especially coatings of the outlet area. Examples include coatings with nanoparticles or plastics.

[0026] In general, each paint roller has a tubular base body and a coating applied to its outer surface.

[0027] Particularly advantageously, the outlet area forms a flat body, the opposite end faces of which form the outlet sides.

[0028] Due to the small thickness of the outlet area, the paint rollers lie close to one another with their ends, so that the coatings of the paint rollers complement one another to form an essentially seamless overall coating.

[0029] Particularly in the case of paint rollers where the edges of the coverings protrude beyond the end faces of the tubular base body, suitable dimensioning of the thickness of the outlet area can ensure that the coverings of the paint rollers adjoin one another without gaps, so that a continuous covering surface is obtained.

[0030] According to the invention, conically shaped, elastically deformable lining segments, which widen towards the outlet area, open out at the end faces of the tubular base body.

[0031] Due to their conical shape, the coating segments protrude outward beyond the outer surface of the respective tubular base body with the coating applied there. When the paint rollers are then moved against a surface to apply paint, the coating segments are elastically deformed and pressed together so that they are at least almost seamlessly connected to one another, thus ensuring a seamless application of paint with the paint roller.

[0032] According to a first variant, the lining segments are dimensionally stable and only form conical arrangements on the end faces of the tubular base body.

[0033] In this case, the covering segments are advantageously made of foam.

[0034] According to a second variant, conical base body segments, onto which lining segments are applied, open out at the end faces of the tubular base body.

[0035] The base body segments each form a conical hollow body.

[0036] In this case, the lining segments themselves do not have to be dimensionally stable, since they are mounted on base body segments that are themselves dimensionally stable but elastically deformable.

[0037] In these embodiments, color collecting means can advantageously be provided at the outlet area.

[0038] In particular, paint collecting means can be provided on the holder and / or on the end faces of the tubular base body.

[0039] According to an advantageous embodiment, position securing means are provided by means of which the paint rollers are secured against axial displacement.

[0040] The position locking devices only secure the paint rollers against axial displacement, but do not hinder the rotation of the paint rollers on the roller bearings.

[0041] The position securing devices hold the paint rollers in their axial target positions, in which the coverings alone or with the covering segment form a gapless covering surface on the outlet area.

[0042] It is particularly advantageous for the position securing devices to be mounted at the free ends of the roller bearing.

[0043] In particular, the position securing means are formed by spring-loaded locking lugs.

[0044] When a paint roller is pushed onto a roller bearing, the respective locking lug is pressed into the roller bearing against the action of a spring force. As soon as the paint roller is pushed into its desired position, the paint roller releases the locking lug, so that the locking lug is pushed outward over the outer surface of the roller bearing by the spring force, thus forming a stop for the paint roller and securing it in its desired position.

[0045] Alternatively, the position securing means may comprise locking means that can be actuated by means of a push button on the respective roller bearing.

[0046] In this case, locking devices can be provided in the respective roller bearings of the paint roller that can be extended and retracted. The locking devices are activated by a push button, which is preferably located at the free end of the roller bearing. When the paint roller is pushed onto the roller, the locking devices are not activated, i.e., they are retracted into the roller bearing, so that the paint roller can be easily pushed onto the roller bearing. The locking devices are then activated by the push button, i.e., they are extended, so that the paint roller is secured axially on the roller bearing.

[0047] The invention is explained below with reference to the drawings. They show: Figure 1: Illustration of an embodiment of the paint roller according to the invention. Figure 2: Paint roller according to Figure 1with only one paint roller on a roller bearing. Figure 3: Individual view of the paint roller holder according to the Figures 1 and 2 Figure 4: Individual representation of a paint roller for the paint roller according to the Figures 1 and 2 . Figure 5a) - c): Different phases in the operation of a position locking device of the paint roller according to the Figures 1 and 2 Figure 6: Individual representation of a covering segment for the paint roller according to the Figures 1 to 3 Figure 7: Another embodiment of the paint roller according to the invention a) in an individual view b) in contact with a substrate. Figure 8: Variant of the embodiment according to Figure 7 .

[0048] The Figures 1 and 2 show an embodiment of the paint roller 1 according to the invention. The paint roller 1 is used to apply paint to surfaces such as walls or ceilings in buildings.

[0049] The paint roller 1 comprises a holder 2 which is Figure 3is shown in a separate illustration. The holder 2 consists of a support that runs along a straight line. At the lower end of the holder 2, a handle 3 is provided, by which a user can hold the paint roller 1. On the underside of the handle 3 is a ring 4, which serves to hang the paint roller 1. The holder 2 is advantageously made of a metallic material, and the handle 3 is advantageously made of a plastic.

[0050] In the area of the handle 3, the holder 2 has a round cross-section. Alternatively, the cross-section can also be oval or polygonal. In the area above the handle 3, the holder 2 has a flat rectangular cross-section. Other cross-sectional shapes are also possible here.

[0051] At the upper end, the holder 2 forms an outlet region 5. In this region, the thickness of the holder 2 is further reduced, ie, the outlet region 5 is formed in the form of a thin, flat body.

[0052] The opposite end faces of the outlet area 5 form outlet sides 6, which, in the simplest case, run in planes oriented parallel to each other. In this case, the outlet sides 6 are conical.

[0053] A roller bearing 7 opens out at each outlet side 6. The roller bearings 7 are formed integrally with the holder 2. The longitudinal axes of the roller bearings 7, each extending along a straight line, are arranged along a common straight line perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the holder 2. The roller bearings 7 each have a circular cross-section that is constant over the length of the respective roller bearing 7.

[0054] In principle, the roller bearings 7 can be designed differently; in particular, the roller bearings 7 can have different lengths. In the present case, the roller bearings 7 are designed identically.

[0055] A paint roller 8 is stored on each roller bearing 7. Figure 1 shows the fully assembled paint roller 1 with one paint roller 8 on each roller bearing 7. Figure 2 shows the holder 2 with only one paint roller 8 on a roller bearing 7.

[0056] Figure 4 shows a paint roller 8 in a single view. As can be seen from Figure 4 As can be seen, the paint roller 8 comprises, in a known manner, a tubular base body 9 and a covering 10 which is fastened to the outer surface of the base body 9.

[0057] In the present case, identical paint rollers 8 are mounted on the roller bearings 7 of the paint roller 1. The diameter of the cavity of the base body 9 and the diameter of the roller bearings 7 are matched to each other such that the paint rollers 8 are rotatably mounted on a roller bearing 7 with minimal play.

[0058] The conical outlet sides 6 of the holder 2 protrude into the cavities of the base bodies 9 of the paint rollers 8 and ensure that the paint rollers 8 are stabilized in position.

[0059] The base body 9 of the paint roller 8 can be made of plastic, for example. The coating 10 is made of a material that can absorb paint. For example, the coating 10 can have a hair or felt structure.

[0060] How Figure 1As shown, the paint rollers 8 are mounted on the roller bearings 7 in such a way that the coatings 10 of the paint rollers 8 connect seamlessly to one another. The coatings 10 thus complement each other to form a continuous overall coating.

[0061] This is achieved in particular by the flat design of the outlet area 5. Furthermore, paint rollers 8 can advantageously be used, in which the coating 10 protrudes slightly beyond the end faces of the paint rollers 8.

[0062] For applications where a small gap remains between the coverings 10, this can be closed by applying a covering segment 13 to the edge of the outlet area 5 ( Figure 6 ). The coating segment 13 can be made of the same material as the coating 10 of the paint roller 8, but this is not mandatory. Generally, the coating segment 13 can consist of a sponge, an arrangement of bristles, or the like.

[0063] The function of the paint roller 1 according to the invention is such that the coatings 10 of the paint rollers 8 are immersed in paint, after which a wall or the like can be painted with the paint roller 1. The paint rollers 8 rotate around a common axis of rotation. To ensure smooth rotation of the paint rollers 8, the outlet sides 6 are designed as sliding surfaces on which the end faces of the paint rollers 8 can rotate smoothly.

[0064] Since the holder 2 does not protrude laterally over the paint rollers 8, they can also be used to paint corner areas of walls.

[0065] To catch dripping paint, paint collecting means can be provided on the holder 2 below the outlet area 5. These can be designed, for example, in the form of a sponge or a drip tray.

[0066] In order to ensure that the paint rollers 8 are permanently adjacent to one another without gaps during use of the paint roller 1, position securing means are advantageously provided which limit the axial play of the paint rollers 8 on the roller bearings 7.

[0067] An example of this is shown by the Figures 5a to 5c . There, the rear, free end of a roller bearing 7 is shown, onto which a paint roller 8 is pushed.

[0068] In a recess of the roller bearing 7, a locking lug 11 is spring-mounted by means of a spring 12. When the roller bearing 7 is exposed, the spring force pushes the locking lug 11 outwards so that it protrudes beyond the outer surface of the roller bearing 7 ( Figure 5a ).

[0069] When the paint roller 8 is pushed onto the roller bearing 7, the base body 9 of the paint roller 8 presses the locking lug 11 inwards into the roller bearing 7 ( Figure 5b ).

[0070] As soon as the rear end of the paint roller 8 has passed the locking lug 11, it is pushed outwards by the spring force of the spring 12. In this position, the locking lug 11 secures the position of the paint roller 8 on the roller bearing 7 ( Figure 5c ).

[0071] The Figures 7a and 7b show a further embodiment of the paint roller 1 according to the invention. The paint roller 1 again has a holder 2, in whose outlet area 5 two roller bearings 7 open. A paint roller 8 is mounted on each of the roller bearings 7 and fixed with bearing segments (not shown). Each paint roller 8 has a tubular base body 9 rotatably mounted on the respective roller bearing 7 and a coating 10 applied to the outer surface of the tubular base body 9.

[0072] The opposite end faces of the tubular base body 9 face each other in the outlet region 5. A conical base body segment 9a is attached or molded onto each of these end faces. The wall A of each base body segment 9a defines a cavity open toward the holder 2. Each of the identically formed base body segments 9a widens toward the holder 2. The base body segments 9a are made of an elastically deformable material such as rubber or plastic.

[0073] On the outside of each base body segment 9a, a coating segment 13a is applied. Figure 7a As shown, the area of each base body segment 9a facing the holder 2 protrudes outward. The edges of the base body segments 9a are located a short distance from one another.

[0074] Figure 7bshows the situation when the paint rollers 8 of the paint roller 1 are guided against a surface such as a wall A in order to apply paint there.

[0075] Due to the contact pressure on the wall A, the base body segments 9a are deformed so that they adjoin one another without gaps with the covering segments 13a.

[0076] Figure 8 shows a variant of the embodiment of the Figures 7a , b. In this case too, paint rollers 8 are mounted on roller bearings 7 of the holder 2 and secured in position, whereby again each paint roller 8 has a tubular base body 9 rotatable on the respective roller bearing 7.

[0077] In this case, the covering 10 on the tubular base body 9 consists of a foam. This is elastically deformable yet dimensionally stable.

[0078] In this case, conical covering segments 13b are formed integrally with the covering 10 of the paint rollers 8. Since these covering segments 13b are dimensionally stable, no base body segments 9a are required to support the covering segments 13b.

[0079] When the paint rollers 8 are guided against a base, the covering segments 13b are pressed inward and adjoin one another without gaps. To facilitate folding the covering segments 13b, notches 14 are provided along the seam lines of the covering 10.

[0080] Between the end faces of the tubular base bodies 9 opposite the holder 2, circular-cylindrical support bodies 15 are mounted in a rotationally fixed manner on the roller bearings 7. The support bodies 15 located on both sides of the holder 2 are formed from identically designed solid bodies. On the side facing away from the handle 3 of the holder 2, a flat scraper element 16 extending over the entire length of the support bodies 15 is provided on the support bodies 15. The scraper element 16 consists, for example, of a rubber lip. The scraper element 16 protrudes beyond the outer surfaces of the support bodies 15 and ensures that excess paint is removed when paint is applied to a substrate with the paint roller 1.

[0081] The support bodies 15 may also have other geometries to facilitate the removal of paint towards the tubular base bodies 9.

[0082] A corresponding construction can also be used in the embodiment of the Figures 7a and 7b be provided. List of reference symbols
