AI Technical Summary
Existing seating furniture with a 'wall-away' function requires two separate displacement units for a two-stage movement sequence, which is inefficient and complex.
A single displacement unit with a specific lever arrangement allows for a two-stage adjustment process, where the seat part is first inclined and then linearly displaced, while the back part is pivoted only during the latter stage, using a single mechanism to achieve both adjustments.
This solution simplifies the adjustment process by using one unit to mimic the two-stage movement of prior art, providing a smoother transition from upright to reclining positions with reduced complexity and obstruction.
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a piece of seating furniture with a chassis, a seat part which can be pivoted in its inclination and a back part which can be pivoted relative to the seat part, wherein the seating furniture is adjustable between an upright sitting position and a lying position, for which purpose the seat part is moved forward relative to the chassis in order to adjust the seating furniture to a lying position.
[0002] In particular, the present invention relates to seating furniture in which the backrest can be swiveled without obstructing the wall, which is therefore colloquially referred to as "sofas with wall-away function." This means that when swiveling into a reclining position, the backrest moves forward along with the seat relative to the chassis, so that the backrest does not protrude, or only slightly protrudes, beyond the rear edge of the seating furniture in any swivel position.
[0003] WO 2021 / 000994 A1 discloses a seating furniture item with a seat part that is adjustable relative to a chassis of the seating furniture. The seating furniture also includes a footrest and a backrest that can be operated independently of each other.
[0004] From CN 213 097 009 U a piece of seating furniture with an adjustment motor is known, in which the adjustment motor first actuates a foot part of the seating furniture and then pivots a back part.
[0005] US 4,244,620 A discloses a manually operated piece of seating furniture with a seat part that is adjustable relative to a chassis of the seating furniture and, in particular, is horizontally and linearly displaceable. Because the seat part is displaceable relative to the chassis, the seating furniture can be placed close to a wall without a backrest colliding with the wall when the seating furniture is moved into a reclining position.
[0006] From the document EP 3 143 902 A1, a piece of seating furniture with such a wall-away function is also known, wherein in this seating furniture, in a first adjustment step, the seat part is moved forward by means of a linear actuator and in the process the rear area of the seat part is lowered and the front area of the seat part is raised, so that the seat part is adjusted in inclination relative to the sitting position up to an intermediate position of the seating furniture, also referred to as the "lounge position".
[0007] When the linear actuator is actuated further, the seat section is moved further forward and the back section is pivoted into a lying position in synchronization with the movement.
[0008] The disadvantage here is that in order to achieve the two-stage movement sequence mentioned, two displacement units attached to one another are required, namely on the one hand in the form of a four-bar pivot guide for adjusting the seat part inclination and on the other hand in the form of a lever adjustment gear for the essentially linear displacement of the seat part and the back part adjustment coupled thereto.
[0009] Based on the described prior art, the invention is based on the object of developing a piece of seating furniture with a wall-away function of the generic type in such a way that a two-stage movement sequence, in which the inclination of the seat part is first adjusted and only then the back part, can be achieved by means of only one displacement unit.
[0010] The above object is achieved according to the invention by a piece of seating furniture having the features listed in patent claim 1.
[0011] A displacement unit according to the invention, which is hinged on the one hand to the chassis and on the other hand to the seat part, has a first and a second chassis lever, each hinged on the chassis, and a first and a second seat lever, each hinged on the seat part.
[0012] The first chassis lever is connected to a second pivot point of the first seat lever by a second pivot point and the second chassis lever is connected to a second pivot point of the second seat lever by a second pivot point.
[0013] A coupling lever is connected on the one hand to a third joint point of the first seat lever and on the other hand to a third joint point of the second seat lever.
[0014] The first chassis lever is extended beyond the area of its pivot point on the first seat lever and is pivoted with its free end to a first end of a control lever, the second end of which is pivotally connected to a central area of the coupling lever.
[0015] The backrest is pivotally connected to the seat section via a backrest adjustment mechanism, with the backrest adjustment mechanism being connected to the backrest on one side and to the chassis on the other.
[0016] By means of the aforementioned articulated chains of the displacement unit, the seat part is moved forward from an upright sitting position to a lying position of the seating furniture relative to the chassis.
[0017] According to the invention, the movement sequence of the displacement unit is controlled in such a way that during approximately the first third of the displacement distance of the seat part between the upright sitting and the lying position of the seating furniture, the predominant part of the inclination adjustment of the seat part takes place and the back part is only slightly pivoted relative to the seat part.
[0018] During the remaining approximately two-thirds of the seat section's displacement, the seat section's inclination adjustment is significantly smaller than during the first third, with this smaller inclination adjustment being perceived by the user as a linear displacement of the seat section.
[0019] During this quasi-linear displacement of the seat part, the back part is simultaneously tilted relative to the seat part by means of the back part adjustment gear until the seating furniture is in a reclining position.
[0020] According to the invention it is thus ensured that for a two-stage adjustment process, in which In a first adjustment step, the seat part is moved forward and at the same time its inclination is adjusted until a so-called "lounge position" is reached, whereby in this adjustment position the back part is not pivoted or only insignificantly pivoted relative to the seat part, and in a second adjustment step the seat part is moved further forward and essentially linearly and the back part is pivoted relative to the seat part into the lying position, only one displacement unit is required instead of two displacement units pivoting one after the other as previously known from the prior art.
[0021] An embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawing, which shows Fig. 1 shows a seating furniture according to the invention in an upright sitting position; Fig. 2 shows a detailed view of the seating furniture according to the invention in an upright sitting position; Fig. 3 shows the seating furniture according to the invention in an intermediate position with the seat part pivoted in its inclination ("lounge position"); and Fig. 4 shows a detailed view of the seating furniture according to the invention in a reclining position.
[0022] The representations in the drawing essentially show only the mechanism of a piece of seating furniture 1 according to the invention without the parts not of interest here, such as upholstery in particular.
[0023] Some of the components mentioned below are present twice due to a largely mirror-image structure of the mechanism of the seating furniture 1, whereby these components are referred to in the following in the singular, whereby both components are meant in each case.
[0024] The seating furniture 1 according to the invention consists of a chassis 5, a seat part fitting 3a coupled to a seat part 3 and a back part 4 which can be pivoted relative to the seat part fitting 3a by means of a back part adjustment gear 10, wherein the seating furniture 1 can be pivoted between a Fig. 1 and 2 shown upright sitting position and one in Fig. 4 shown lying position, wherein in the lying position the back part 4 is pivoted further backwards relative to the seat part fitting 3a than in the upright sitting position.
[0025] The seat part 3 is displaced by means of at least one displacement unit 2 by a displacement distance from an upright sitting position displaced towards the rear edge of the seating furniture 1 into a reclining position of the seating furniture 1 displaced towards the front edge of the seating furniture 1 relative to the chassis 5 and at the same time the inclination is adjusted.
[0026] The terms "front edge of the seat" and "back edge of the seat" refer to the perspective of a person sitting on the seat with their legs facing forward and their back facing backward.
[0027] The Fig. 2 and 4 The displacement unit 2 shown (the chassis 5 is hidden in these figures for better clarity) has a first chassis lever 7 and a second chassis lever 9, each hinged to the chassis 5, and a first seat lever 8 and a second seat lever 10, each hinged to the seat part fitting 3a, wherein the first chassis lever 7 and the first seat lever 8 are positioned closer to a vertical plane spanned by the front edge 11 of the seat part 3 than the second chassis lever 9 and the second seat lever 10.
[0028] The first chassis lever 7 is connected to a second articulation point of the first seat lever 8 by a second articulation point and the second chassis lever 9 is connected to a second articulation point of the second seat lever 10 by a second articulation point.
[0029] A coupling lever 12 is connected on the one hand to a third articulation point of the first seat lever 8 and on the other hand to a third articulation point of the second seat lever 10.
[0030] The first chassis lever 7 is extended beyond the area of its articulation point on the first seat lever 8 and is articulated with its free end to a first end of a control lever 13, the second end of which is articulated to a central area of the coupling lever 12.
[0031] According to the lever arrangement described, each pivoting movement of the first chassis lever 7 relative to the chassis 5 causes a forced pivoting of the first seat lever 8 relative to the seat part fitting 3a as well as a forced pivoting of the second chassis lever 9 and the second seat lever 10, whereby a displacement of the seat part 3 relative to the chassis 5 takes place in synchronism with these pivoting movements.
[0032] The second seat lever 10 has a greater length than the first seat lever 8.
[0033] In the upright sitting position of the seating furniture 1, the longitudinal axis of the first seat lever 8 is more inclined to a vertical plane than the longitudinal axis of the second seat lever 10.
[0034] During the adjustment of the seating furniture 1 from the upright sitting position to the lying position, the first chassis lever 7 is pivoted relative to the first seat lever 8 and the second chassis lever 9 is pivoted relative to the second seat lever 10 by an angle of more than 130°, wherein the first chassis lever 7 is pivoted relative to the first seat lever 8 by a greater angular amount than the second chassis lever 9 is pivoted relative to the second seat lever 10.
[0035] All of the aforementioned features of the first 7 and second chassis lever 9, the first 8 and second seat lever 10, the coupling lever 14 and the control lever 19 promote a movement sequence according to the invention, in which the predominant part of the inclination adjustment of the seat part 3 takes place during approximately a first third of the displacement distance of the seat part 3 from the upright sitting position to the lying position of the seating furniture 1 and an essentially linear displacement of the seat part 3 takes place during the further approximately two thirds of this displacement distance.
[0036] This characteristic of the seat part 3 adjustment, in which during a first third of the displacement of the seat part 3, the inclination of the seat part 3 is preferably adjusted by an angle that is more than twice as large as during a last third of this displacement, forms a basis for a desired two-stage movement sequence of the seating furniture 1, in which first the inclination of the seat part 3 is adjusted to a "lounge position" and only then the back part 4.
[0037] The back part 4 is pivotally connected to the seat part fitting 3a by means of a back part adjustment gear 14, wherein the seat part fitting 3a is coupled to an adjustment lever 15 which is connected to the chassis 5 via a first connecting lever 16 and to the back part 4 via a second connecting lever 17.
[0038] As a result, the backrest adjustment mechanism 14 is coupled to the displacement unit 2 according to the invention in such a way that during the adjustment of the seating furniture 1 from the upright sitting position to the lying position, the seat part 3 is adjusted in its inclination by an angular amount a, and the back part 4 is adjusted in its inclination by an angular amount b relative to the seat part 3, wherein the back part 4, with an inclination adjustment of the seat part 3 of 70% of the angular amount a, is adjusted in its inclination by less than 30%, preferably by less than 15% of the angular amount b relative to the seat part 3.
[0039] This characteristic of the backrest 4 adjustment in relation to the seat 3 inclination adjustment forms a further component for the desired two-stage movement sequence of the seating furniture 1, in which the inclination of the seat 3 is adjusted first and essentially only then the backrest 4.
[0040] The two-stage adjustment process of the seating furniture known from EP 3 143 902 A1 by means of two successively pivoting displacement units can thus be realized according to the invention by means of only one displacement unit 2 by means of a linear actuator 6 acting between the chassis 5 and the seat part fitting 3a In a first adjustment step, the seat part 3 is moved forward and at the same time its inclination is adjusted until a "lounge position" is reached which is perceived as comfortable for the user, wherein in this adjustment position the back part 4 is only slightly pivoted relative to the seat part 3, and in a second adjustment step the seat part 3 is moved further forward and essentially linearly, wherein during this displacement movement of the seat part 3 the back part 4 is pivoted relative to the seat part 3 until the reclining position of the seating furniture 1 is reached.
