AI Technical Summary
Existing roof tent designs face challenges in increasing load-bearing capacity while maintaining weight efficiency, especially when accommodating multiple people, which can exceed the static roof load of vehicles.
The roof tent arrangement features a hybrid hard shell with a lightweight frame and detachable lateral supports that can be telescoped, allowing for increased stability and load-bearing capacity without significantly increasing the weight of the tent.
This design effectively enhances the load-bearing capacity of the roof tent to support multiple people, increasing the static load to over 100 kg and dynamic loads by up to 100 kg or more, while maintaining weight efficiency.
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to a roof tent arrangement according to the features in the preamble of claim 1.
[0002] Roof tents have been known for many years. Such a roof tent is mounted on the roof of a motor vehicle, truck, or trailer. Originally, roof tents were limited to their actual floor space when assembled. In recent years, roof tents have been developed that can be extended or folded out sideways. This allows a sleeping area that, for example, is 2 meters long and 1.20 meters wide when resting on a vehicle roof, to be doubled by extending or folding out sideways.
[0003] There are also roof tent configurations that fold out on both sides, tripling the available sleeping space.
[0004] This means that not only 2 people, but 3 people or even entire families, i.e. 4 or 5 people, can sleep in a roof tent arrangement.
[0005] However, increasing the available sleeping space also comes with disadvantages. In particular, the weight of the roof tent itself increases. Furthermore, if the roof tent is used and can accommodate more than two people, i.e., three or four people, the weight of the people in the roof tent also increases.
[0006] This has a negative impact on the available roof load. The static roof load of a motor vehicle is sometimes as low as 50 kg. Many vehicles have a static roof load of 75 kg. There are also vehicles with a static roof load of 100 kg. However, a standard roof tent, especially one that is extendable or foldable, already has a dead weight of significantly more than 50 kg, and in particular approximately 50 kg. Most attempts are made to limit the dead weight of roof tents to 75 kg, even when folded, in order to be suitable for as many vehicle types as possible with a static roof load limited to 75 kg.However, if the roof tent has a large footprint and an even larger footprint when unfolded, a certain minimum amount of material is necessary to achieve sufficient stability, even if lightweight materials such as fiberglass-reinforced plastic or honeycomb floors made of light metal are used. This particularly applies to the floor of the roof tent and, if applicable, to any roof tent lid or hood. Mattress materials, when used, are also heavy due to the relatively high volume required.
[0007] By the time the roof tent is unfolded or extended into its use position, a static load of approximately four people plus the weight of the roof tent itself can easily reach 400 kg or more. If the people inside the roof tent move, for example, children playing, jumping on the mattress, or something similar, the dynamic roof load increases by up to 100 kg or more.
[0008] For example, a roof tent arrangement is known from WO 2018 / 107 196 A1. When closed, the roof tent is covered by either a hardcover or a softshell.
[0009] Furthermore, a roof tent arrangement is known from WO 2020 / 013 421 A1. Two plate-like elements, which form the floor of the roof tent when unfolded and the top and bottom of a roof tent cover when folded, are connected to each other by a tarpaulin strip running along the sides.
[0010] Furthermore, roof tent arrangements are known from JP 2000 345741 A, CN 106 476 674 B, DE 20 2020 101232 U1. [0011] The object of the present invention is to show, based on the prior art, a possibility of increasing the load-bearing capacity of a roof tent arrangement.
[0012] The above-mentioned object is achieved according to the invention in a roof tent arrangement having the features in claim 1.
[0013] Advantageous embodiments are described in the dependent claims.
[0014] A first solution of the invention provides for the roof tent arrangement on a vehicle roof to include a roof tent. The roof tent is folded in a resting position and unfolded in a use position. To assume the use position, the roof tent can be unfolded with a pivoting movement, so that a tent body rises during the unfolding movement. The roof tent can also be extended sideways. This increases the sleeping area, especially in the use position. The roof tent can also be set up as a pop-up roof tent.
[0015] In the resting position, the roof tent has an upper shell that covers the roof tent. The upper shell is formed by a hood. According to the invention, however, the shell is not made of a glass fiber reinforced plastic, as is known in the prior art. Rather, the shell is designed as a hybrid hard shell with a frame that is planked or covered with a film. This makes it possible to save weight, so that up to several kilograms can be saved compared to a hard shell roof tent with a glass fiber reinforced hood. This means that the roof tent equipped with the hood according to the invention can either be enlarged or the weight of the roof tent can be generally reduced.
[0016] In particular, the frame is designed as a lattice-like structure. Struts made of a lightweight metal or plastic material are particularly preferred. The tarpaulin is then preferably attached to the struts. The tarpaulin can also be a cloth or tent fabric.
[0017] When folded, the top surface of the tarpaulin facing upwards or outwards is attached to at least one longitudinal strut and / or at least one cross strut of the frame. This effectively prevents flapping during travel.
[0018] The invention provides for detachable lateral supports to be attached to the roof tent. The supports protrude laterally from the roof tent above the vehicle and are then directed diagonally downwards in the vertical direction. The supports are carried in the vehicle itself when not in use so as not to increase the static roof load. Once you have arrived at your destination, the supports can be arranged laterally diagonally downwards from the roof tent past the vehicle to set up the roof tent. This significantly increases the static roof load. This can be increased to well over 100 kg, sometimes even over 200 kg. The supports are supported on a base. Even in its static state, the roof tent can therefore support several hundred kg, i.e. three or four people.
[0019] In a preferred embodiment, particularly when the roof tent is unfolded or extended to the side of the vehicle, it is possible to position the supports in such a way that they provide additional rigidity essentially centrally below the roof tent. Another advantage of the supports is that when movement occurs in the roof tent, for example, when a sleeping person turns over in their sleep, the car's suspension does not cause the car with the roof tent to rock or sway.
[0020] To ensure universal use in terms of height, the supports are either extendable to various lengths or, more preferably, telescopic. Four supports are particularly preferred, two on each side. For further reinforcement, a crossbar can be installed below the floor of the roof tent. The supports are then preferably attached to the side of the crossbar.
[0021] Further advantages, features, properties, and aspects of the present invention are the subject of the following description. Preferred embodiments are illustrated in schematic figures. These serve to facilitate understanding of the invention. They show: Figure 1 a perspective view of the roof tent arrangement according to the invention Figure 2 a telescopic support Figure 3 the base of a support Figure 4 a front view of the roof tent arrangement according to the invention Figure 5 a perspective view of a hood as a frame Figure 6 a side view, a longitudinal sectional view according to. Fig. 5 Figure 7 a + bDetail views of the hood
[0022] In the figures, the same reference symbols are used for identical and similar components, even if a repeated description is omitted for reasons of simplification.
[0023] Figure 1shows a roof tent arrangement according to the invention in a perspective view 1. The roof tent 2 is in a folded, resting position. The roof tent 2 is arranged on the roof 3 of a motor vehicle 4. In this variant, the roof tent 2 has an upper shell 5 and a lower shell 6. The upper shell 5 can also be referred to as a hood. Since the weight of the roof tent 2, including the persons inside, is no longer regulated by the roof load of the motor vehicle 4 itself, laterally projecting supports 7 are provided.
[0024] The supports 7 themselves are in Fig. 2 telescopic design. According to Fig. 3 the supports 7 have a widened foot 8 at one lower end so that they can be placed on a surface and stand securely even when the topsoil of the surface is soft.
[0025] Fig. 4shows a front view. Here, it is clearly visible that the upper shell 5 and lower shell 6 have been unfolded by a 180° pivoting movement. The upper shell 5 protrudes laterally beyond the vehicle 4 itself. A tent body then forms the roof tent 2 itself. The available sleeping area on the roof tent 2 is defined by the upper shell 5 and lower shell 6 and is doubled by the unfolding movement. Furthermore, an indicated ladder 11 is located at one outer end. The ladder 11 also serves to stabilize or support the roof tent 2.
[0026] According to the invention, it is now provided that the supports 7 can be detachably attached or plugged into the roof tent arrangement 1 from the outside and then the height can be individually telescoped, for example by pluggable and / or telescopic supports. Furthermore, it can be seen that the supports 7 protrude laterally beyond the motor vehicle 4 on one side, specifically on the right side of the motor vehicle 4 as viewed in the plane of the image, with an overhang Ü 8. It has proven particularly advantageous if the overhang Ü corresponds to 10% to 50%, particularly preferably 20% to 30% of the width B of the roof tent 2 or the upper shell 5. This can significantly increase the stability and sturdiness of the roof tent 2. The roof tent 2 is thus supported overall by the supports 7 on the left as viewed in the plane of the image, by the motor vehicle 4 itself, by the supports 7 on the right and by the ladder 11.An indicated hinge body 12 connects both shells of the roof tent 2.
[0027] As an alternative to the lower shell 6 in particular, a flat bottom can also be formed, so that the upper shell 5 in the folded state according to Fig. 1 everything covered.
[0028] A second aspect of the invention is shown in Fig. 5 . Shown here is a hood or upper shell 5 of the roof tent 2. This has a frame structure 14. In particular, the frame structure 13 is designed like a grid. A surrounding frame 14 can be formed, for example, from an aluminum profile or plastic profile. This is then connected by cross struts 15 and / or longitudinal struts 16. Fig. 6shows a side view. It shows that a film is pulled over the cross strut 15 and the laterally surrounding frame 14. In particular, longitudinal and / or transverse struts 15, 16 are hemispherically or curved outwardly, and / or the tarpaulin 17 is glued together, in particular via the longitudinal or transverse strut 15, 16. This makes it possible to tension the tarpaulin 17 so that it does not flap in the wind. Figure 7 a and b show a detailed view of the respective image. It can be seen that according to Figure 7 a the tarpaulin 17, the side profile and the cross member 15 are folded over at a lower corner and lashed. According to Fig. 7 bThe tarpaulin 17 is inserted into an upper groove 18 of the laterally surrounding frame by means of a piping or other fastening. Thus, the tarpaulin 17 only covers the upper side, with the side wall being concealed by the lateral frame. This invention is particularly suitable for pop-up tents and / or tents formed by a lateral erection of the hood. The hood itself does not serve in this case as in Fig. 4 shown, a 180° swivel movement, so that it is also designed for lying down. Reference symbols:
