[0011] The invention is intended to provide a water container as a module system consisting of a number of construction modules of a shape which is adapted to the ready-made water container. The construction modules are formed with surface angles determining the general surface geometry of a construction module as well as edge angles of the respective construction module, which edge angles are selected so that the direction and surface geometry of an adjacent second construction module in relation to the first adjacent construction module allow a certain end shape of the water container.
[0012] The present invention concerns according to appended claim 1, a water container, for instance as a hot tub for outdoor use or as a swimming pool. It is also feasible that the invention could be used for a swimming pool indoors. Common to all embodiments of the invention is that access to the water container is offered from above to a user. The water container comprises a bottom and wall parts connecting directly or indirectly to the bottom, each one of which wall parts is joined in a waterproof fashion to an adjacent wall part as well as to said bottom. Each one of said bottom and wall parts is formed as one or more construction modules, which are connected edge to edge in a jointing system to another construction module. The jointing system comprises mounting flanges along the edges of the construction modules. Each construction module is made of metal, for instance either stainless steel or aluminum, each construction module being bent or rolled to form said jointing system by means of which the construction modules are joined together using screw and / or compression joints to form the complete water container. The mounting flange of the respective construction module abuts against the mounting flange of a neighboring construction module with a gap and said gap is provided with a sealing means. The mounting flanges of the jointing system are protruding or embedded from the inside of the water container, wherein each one of said mounting flanges constitutes one branch of a U-shaped mounting chute placed at the edge, wherein said mounting chute is provided with a cover member.
[0013] The present invention also concerns according to appended claim 9, a corresponding method for manufacturing a water container.
[0014] In one embodiment of the invention, the mounting flanges are designed to be connected to an adjacent construction module at a certain angle between the surfaces of the construction modules and at a certain angle between the construction modules to obtain a common flat surface. The surfaces may be entirely flat or be entirely or partly curved or wavy.
[0015] In one embodiment of the invention, the construction modules are essentially flat.
[0016] In one embodiment of the invention, also said bottom is formed as one or more essentially flat construction modules, which are connected edge to edge in the jointing system to another essentially flat construction module.
[0017] In embodiments where the jointing is made from the inside in embedded mounting flanges, the mounting flanges may be covered by cover strips which either are put into or clamped in the joints alternatively are snapped into the same.
[0018] In one embodiment of the invention, two or more of said construction modules are permanently manufactured with a certain angle between their respective planes, which said construction modules can be joined to further construction modules according to the jointing system.
[0019] In one embodiment of the invention, said construction modules also comprise a leg module and a seating module, which either are separate modules or which are permanently connected to each other and / or to one or more other modules.
[0020] In one embodiment of the invention, said mounting flange consists of an angle in the interval of 45° to 135°, preferably 90° in the direction either inward the meant water container or outward from the meant water container when the surfaces are on the same plane.
[0021] In one embodiment of the invention, said mounting flange consists of an angle in the interval of 0° to 180°, preferably 135° and 45° for right-angled oriented surfaces, in the direction either inward the water container or outward from the water container.
[0022] In other embodiments, the angles between the mounting flanges may be determined in a suitable way depending on, on one hand, the angle between the plane of the construction modules and, on the other hand, the space required to mount the construction modules to each other.
[0023] In one embodiment of the invention, said mounting flanges are in addition provided with a sealing means flange.
[0024] In one embodiment of the invention, said sealing means flange is formed by one of the mounting flanges being provided with an angle directed outward from the plane of the construction module while the other mounting flange is provided with an angle directed inward from the plane of the construction module.
[0025] In one embodiment of the invention, said sealing means flange is formed by both mounting flanges being provided with a respective angle directed inward from the plane of the construction module.
[0026] The sealing means is applied to the mounting flanges in the form of tape which is put into the joints before the mounting. Alternatively, the sealing means is applied by a spray gun before the mounting. Further alternatives for the application of the sealing means are to press in the same after mounting into sealing channels. The sealing means is brought to expand in the joints to obtain a complete seal.
[0027] In one embodiment of the invention, where said jointing system comprises a screw joint the screw joint comprises a bolt rail having a pressure ruler which presses against the mounting flanges to distribute the pressure from the screw / bolt joints. The compression joint may consist of a resilient clamping rail which either is snapped across the mounting flanges or is pushed in over the mounting flanges. The clamp may be equally long as the seam.

[0032] The embodiments presented in Figures 1-8, 12, 15-16 and 19-34 are not forming part of the present invention.
[0033] Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of a water container 10. The water container is intended to be used as a hot tub outdoors either partly buried or standing on a ground surface. The water container is composed of a number of construction modules B n of different shapes each one of which is formed with a surface geometry for the connection to an adjacent construction module B n+1 in the horizontal direction as well as in the vertical direction. The construction modules used and joined according to the embodiment shown have resulted in a hot tub having an equilateral eight-edged, regular octagon shape having the angle sum 1080°. The figure also shows a few of the outwardly facing linear mounting flanges 12 with their respective jointing system so as to form the inner jointing edges 14. Thus, this jointing system is handled from the outside of the water container in order to obtain an essentially flat inside at the jointing edges 14. In the figure, each section S is shown as a separate construction module, but a section may consist of several construction modules joined to each other to form a flat section, for instance as a section for a bottom 25 or as a wall part 15. The connection of the parts in the jointing edges forms a jointing system 16.
[0034] Figure 2 shows the water container 10 according to Figure 1 from above having the eight-edged shape. The bottom of the water container is put together from two types of construction modules viz. an eight-edged centre module 21 and an outer module 22, eight outer modules 22 having been joined on one hand side by side and on the other hand by the centre module 21 to an eight-edged bottom 25. As seen in the figure, the jointing edges of the outer modules are straight and directed on one hand "radially" out from the centre 23 of the bottom and on the other hand 90° to this "radial" direction. Thus, for this form of water container, the side angles, i.e., the angles between the side joint and the transverse joint are 67,5°. The figure also shows the upper edge of joined side modules 24. This embodiment of water container is provided with a horizontal seating surface 26 which is formed of eight laterally assembled construction modules.
[0035] Figure 3 shows the water container 10 according to Figure 1 from the outside from below. The figure shows outwardly facing mounting flanges 33 which have joined two construction modules with each other at an angle between the flat surfaces of the construction modules, which angle in this embodiment is 90°. The figure also shows outwardly facing mounting flanges 34 which have joined two construction modules with each other at an angle of 180° between the flat surfaces of the construction modules. In addition, the figure shows mounting flanges 35 which have joined two construction modules with each other at an angle of 135° between the flat surfaces of the construction modules.
[0036] Figure 4 shows a construction module in the form of a centre module 21 provided with outwardly facing mounting flanges 41, which are directed outward so that adjacent modules could be assembled from the outside.
[0037] Figure 5 shows a construction module in the form of an outer floor module 51 which with its short transverse side 52 is formed to connect against the mounting flange 41 of the centre module 21 according to Figure 4. A plurality of outer floor modules 51 are connected side by side along the long sides 53 thereof, all outer floor modules 51 being connected to said centre module into the appearance of the bottom 25 that has been shown in Figure 2. The outer floor module 51 is furthermore provided with a second mounting flange 54, which is formed with a slope of 45° to connect against a vertically standing construction module.
[0038] Figure 6 shows exactly such a vertical construction module in the form of a leg module 61. The leg module 61 is provided with outwardly directed mounting flanges 62 in order to be able to be mounted to an adjacent construction module, which in this case is the outer floor module 51 according to Figure 5 at an angle of 90°, and to two similar leg modules on both sides and to a seating module.
[0039] Figure 7 shows a construction module in the form of a seating module 71, which is provided with outwardly directed mounting flanges 72. The seating module 71 is mounted to the leg module according to Figure 6 and laterally to two similar seating modules, which together form a flat horizontal seating surface 26 according to Figure 2. In addition, the seating module is mounted to a side module.
[0040] Figure 8 shows a construction module in the form of a side module 81, which is provided with outwardly directed mounting flanges 82. The mounting flanges of the side module 81 are formed so that the side module could be connected, on one hand, to at least one further side module but also, on the other hand, to the seating module shown in Figure 7. The side module is provided with a horizontal deloading surface 83 for deloading surface and stiffening.
[0041] Figures 4-8 described concern parts for a first embodiment of the water container which has been shown in Figures 1-3. As may be appreciated from these described figures, a number of different shapes of water container may be provided by varying the geometrical shape of the construction modules and the angles of the mounting flanges thereof.
[0042] Figure 9 shows a construction module in the form of a rectangular module 91, which is provided with inwardly directed mounting flanges 92. In order to be able to join two such rectangular modules with each other from the inside, the mounting flanges 92 are formed at a distance from the flat surface 93 of the construction module by a U-shaped mounting chute 94 placed at the edge delimiting the mounting flanges 92 to the flat surface 93.
[0043] Figure 10 shows two rectangular construction modules 91 1 , 91 2 which have been joined by their respective opposed mounting flange having been abutted surface-to-surface and after that joined by a screw joint through the mounting chute 94 1 , 94 2 of each construction module.
[0044] Figure 11 shows four such joined rectangular construction modules 91 1 , 91 2 , 91 3 , 91 4 , after which the intermediate mounting chutes are provided with a respective cover member 110.
[0045] As seen in Figures 9-11, larger flat surfaces can be constructed by joining several construction modules. These rectangular construction modules may naturally be combined with construction modules of another geometrical shape to form desired structures.
[0046] Figure 12 shows in enlargement the jointing system shown in Figure 10. Two rectangular construction modules 91 1 , 91 2 , have been joined by a number of screw joints 121, 122 each one of which consisting of a screw, a nut, and washers. Each mounting flange 92 is provided with a sealing means flange 123, which is provided with a sealing means before the joining.
[0047] Figure 13 shows in section view two construction modules 131, 132, one of which is also shown with its end, which are flat and joined from the inside of a water container in order to be able to construct larger surfaces, for instance according to Figure 11. Each construction module is provided with a mounting flange 133 in the form of a branch of a U-shaped mounting chute 134 placed at the edge. The branch is also provided with a sealing means flange 135, which in contact with an abutting sealing means flange forms a sealing means space 136.
[0048] Figure 14 shows the jointing system according to Figure 13 in enlargement with a cover lid 141 which has been connected over the joint to obtain a primarily flat surface. The jointing system aims at, by a screw joint 142 consisting of screw 143 and nut 144 and possibly reciprocally situated washers 145, joining the two construction modules 131, 132 with each other. Before or after the mounting of the screw joints but before the mounting of the cover lid 141, a sealing means is applied in sealing means space 136.
[0049] Figures 15, 16, 19-28 herein below show further examples of types of jointing system not forming part of the present invention as claimed. The jointing system according to Figures 17 and 18 herein below show more principally the same jointing system according to the invention as has been shown in Figures 13 and 14.
[0050] Figure 15 shows external angles 151 having flat surfaces to constitute mounting flanges wherein, between these mounting flanges, a sealing means 152 is applied and whereupon a compression takes place by a screw joint or the like. Said jointing system is the simplest one and is suitable for smaller volumes of water. The surfaces may also be glued, for instance by a double-stick tape, which also may be a sealing means and also in combination with clamps which are removed after curing.
[0051] Figure 16 shows a further jointing system where the construction modules have been provided with mounting flanges in the form of complementary flanges 161, 162 so that the mounting flange of one construction module is provided with an angle directed outward from the plane of the construction module while the mounting flange of the other construction module is provided with an angle directed inward from the plane of the construction module. The mounting flanges have also been provided with a sealing means space 163 by the fact that further flanges having different horizontal extension have been made, wherein the sealing means flange has been formed between these further flanges.
[0052] Figure 17 shows a jointing system having inwardly turned mounting flanges in which the mounting flanges of the construction modules constitute one branch 171, 172 of a U-shaped mounting chute 173, 174 placed at the edge. Thus, also the neighboring mounting flanges are U-shaped and provided with a mounting chute placed at the edge. The figure shows that also these mounting flanges are provided with a further flange to obtain a sealing means space 175.
[0053] Figure 18 shows the jointing system in Figure 17 where the mounting chutes 173, 174 are covered by a cover member 181 in order to obtain an essentially flat surface.
[0054] Figure 19 shows a jointing system for construction modules with perpendicular surfaces having mounting flanges 191, 192 turned outward which also have been provided with further flanges to form a sealing means space with sealing means 193. The mounting flanges 191, 192 are arranged at an angle of 135° in relation to the direction of the flat surface of the respective construction module when the flanges are turning outward as in the figure, but may also be turning inward and then consist of an angle of 45°. The angles of the mounting flanges are preferably selected to be half the angle between the flat surfaces of the construction modules, but may also assume other angles, for instance 180°, of one of construction module and 90° of the other construction module.
[0055] Thus, the angles between the flat surfaces of the construction modules as well as the angle of the respective mounting flange may vary depending on the angle between the flat surfaces of the construction modules and depending on whether the mounting flanges are placed internally or externally.
[0056] Figure 20 shows the jointing system according to Figure 19 from the outside and provided with a compression joint in the form of a screw joint 201 which is uniting in the joint and which compresses the sealing means 193.
[0057] Figure 21 shows a jointing system having mounting flanges 191, 192 turned outward which also have been provided with further flanges to form a sealing means flange with sealing means 193. This jointing system is pressed together by a compression joint 211 in the form of an elastic railing 212 which either is snapped across the mounting flanges or is pushed over the same from one side. The elastic railing 212 may, as in the figure, be formed as a plurality of separate clamps or have a length primarily corresponding to the entire joint length.
[0058] Figure 22 shows a jointing system which comprises a screw joint 201 as well as a compression joint 212 according to Figures 20 and 21 previously shown.
[0059] Figure 23a shows a jointing system where one of the mounting flanges 231 is entirely flat and lacks a further flange and where the adjacent mounting flange 232 is provided with a further flange 233 for sealing means.
[0060] Figure 23b shows a jointing system in which both mounting flanges 234, 235 are provided with further flanges 236 for the formation of a sealing means space. In addition, the respective mounting flange is provided with a stiffening bending 237 the edge of which also may constitute a contact surface for a screw joint washer.
[0061] Figure 23c shows a construction module 238 with examples of how a mounting flange may be formed with one of four alternative possible angles 239a, 239b, 239c, 239d between the mounting flange and the flat surface of the construction module 238 according to the arrows in the figure. In the examples shown in the figure, the angles are 40°, 90°, 135°, and 145°. The mounting flanges shown are in addition provided with a further flange for sealing means.
[0062] Figure 24 shows a jointing system where one of the mounting flanges 241 lacks a further flange and where the adjacent mounting flange 242 is provided with a further flange 243 for sealing means. In this embodiment, however, one of the mounting flanges 241 which lacks sealing means flange is formed with a U-shaped mounting chute 244 previously shown.
[0063] Figure 25 shows a jointing system where one of the mounting flanges 251 lacks a further flange and where the adjacent mounting flange 252 is provided with a further flange 253 for sealing means. In this embodiment, it is the flat mounting flange 251 which lacks sealing means flange while the mounting flange 252 that is connected to the U-shaped mounting chute 254 is provided with the sealing means flange 253.
[0064] Figure 26 shows a jointing system where both the mounting flange 262 that is connected to the U-shaped mounting chute 264 and the flat mounting flange 261 are formed with a further flange 265, 266 opposed each other for sealing means.
[0065] Figure 27 shows a jointing system where one of the mounting flanges 271 is provided with three 90° angulations and where the adjacent mounting flange 272 is provided with two 90° angulations so that a sealing means space 273 is formed between them.
[0066] Figure 28 shows a jointing system where one of the mounting flanges 281 is provided with four 90° angulations and where the adjacent mounting flange 282 is provided with one 90° angulation so that a sealing means space 283 is formed between them.
[0067] The different jointing systems which have been shown may also be combined. In addition, the mounting flanges of the different jointing systems may be entirely smooth or be provided with a further flange for sealing means and also a combination of such flanges, for instance according to any one of the jointing systems shown.
[0068] The principles of the jointing systems shown in Figures 15-28 are examples of suitable jointing systems for a water container. In all jointing systems, there is some form of uniting joint possibly with a jointing material in the joint to obtain an impermeable joint. In case the joint is handled from the interior of the water container, some form of cover member is arranged over the joint in order to obtain an essentially smooth surface. In case the joint is handled from the outside of the water container, the water container is preferably, as for the visible parts, covered by surface elements which enhance the aesthetic value and provides an external surface which is easy to clean.
[0069] Figures 29-32 show further embodiments of water containers manufactured of construction modules.
[0070] Figure 29 shows a water container according to the construction principle shown in Figures 1-8, but the water container has been extended in the longitudinal direction by the construction modules having been supplemented with surface-wise rectangular construction modules 291 which have been connected to particular corner modules 292.
[0071] Figure 30 shows a water container also according to the construction principle shown in Figures 1-8, but the water container has in this embodiment been extended in the longitudinal direction as well as in the transverse direction by the construction modules having been supplemented with surface-wise rectangular construction modules 301, 302 which have been connected to particular corner modules 303, 304.
[0072] Figure 31 shows a water container according to the construction principle shown in Figures 9-11, i.e., that rectangular construction modules 91 are joined to larger surfaces to form a rectangular water container 310.
[0073] Figure 32 shows another water container having primarily rectangular construction modules 321, 322, 323 which have been connected to particular corner modules 324 with adapted surface angles and edge angles in order to connect to the rectangular construction modules.
[0074] Figure 33a shows a first type of combined construction module 331 which consists of a back part 332 and a seating part 333 which is manufactured integrally into one construction module unit.
[0075] Figure 33b shows a second type of combined construction module 334 which consists of a leg part 335 and a floor part 336 which also this is manufactured integrally into one construction module unit.
[0076] Figure 34 shows the construction unit 341 mounted by the user which by the user has been mounted according to one of the previously described jointing systems 342. The construction unit 341 then constitutes a construction module which is combined with further construction modules which are joined according to one or more of the described jointing systems to a ready-made module-constructed water container.
[0077] Such combined construction module units are prefabricated and delivered to the user for assembling according to what previously has been described. Storage-wise and transport volume-wise, these combined construction modules will be insignificantly greater than the previously described flat construction modules. The jointing systems for these combined construction modules are similar as previously has been described.
[0078] Also, the entire construction unit 341 that is shown in Figure 34 may constitute a uniform construction module to be joined to further construction modules according to the jointing systems shown to a complete water container.
[0079] In the embodiments shown of jointing systems, the mounting flanges are made with 90° angles which, depending on choice of material, can be made in various ways. As for metals, such as stainless steel or aluminum, bending or rolling is employed. As for polymeric materials, these angles are cast or thermoformed to constitute mounting flanges.
[0080] In all embodiments shown, the sealing means is of an expanding type which is activated either upon contact with water and / or by heat treatment. Preferably, the expanded sealing means is obtained as an elastic jointing mastic.
[0081] The embodiment examples shown of complete water containers and the jointing systems shown affords a module system which can be mounted to a number of different embodiment variants of the water container.
