Illuminated umbrella assembly having self-contained and replacable lighting

An illuminated umbrella assembly having self-contained and protected lights is described. The illuminated umbrella assembly comprises (i) a lower vertical support pole having a first end for engagement to a generally horizontal surface and a second end extending upwardly there from; (ii) an upper vertical support pole having a first end coupled to the second end of the lower vertical support pole and a second end extending upwardly there from; (iii) a plurality of umbrella support bars extending from the second end of the upper vertical support pole; (iv) an umbrella panel overlaying and coupled to the plurality of umbrella support bars; (v) a hinged column coupled coaxially around and selectively movable along the upper vertical support pole; (vi) a plurality of hollowed, elongated and non-opaque support rails, each having a first end coupled to the hinged column and a second end coupled to one of the plurality of umbrella support bars; (vii) a plurality of light strands positioned internally within and extending substantially along the length of the plurality of hollowed, elongated and non-opaque support rails, each of the plurality of light strands having one of a plurality of plugs on one end thereof; (viii) a battery sleeve containing a series of rechargeable DC batteries wherein the battery sleeve is contained coaxially within the lower vertical support pole and is electrically wired to provide power to the light strands by including outlets to engage with said plugs; (ix) a solar panel overlaying at least a portion of the umbrella panel and electrically wired to provide power to the light strands through the outlets; and (x) a plurality of coupling hinges for individually attaching the second ends of the support rails to the plurality of umbrella support bars. A power switch is often provided to control the illumination of the light strands.

Disk drive including resilient securing system providing relative movement between side rails and head disk assembly to accommodate side rails engaging guide channels in a chassis

A disk drive is usable in a chassis having first and second guide channels mounted on side surfaces of the chassis. The disk drive includes a head disk assembly that includes first and second side walls. The disk drive further includes first and second side rails and a securing system for securing the side rails to the side walls. The first and second side rails engage the first and second guide channels, respectively, for supporting the disk drive within the chassis. The securing system includes an engagement mechanism and a double-sided adhesive resilient mechanism. The engagement mechanism projects between the first and second side rails and the first and second side walls, respectively, of the head disk assembly. The double-sided adhesive resilient mechanism is adhesively attached between the first side rail and the first side wall and between the second side rail and the second side wall for mounting the first and second side rails to the first and second side walls, respectively, of the head disk assembly. The securing system provides for relative movement between the side rails and the side walls to accommodate the side rails engaging the guide channels in the chassis. In one embodiment, the relative movement is a damped relative movement.

Walking Aid for a Visually Disabled Person

A walking aid for assisting a visually disabled user is provided. The walking aid consists of an elongated housing having a handle at one end and a distal end opposite the handle. A wheel is mounted to the distal end of the housing, the wheel being mounted to the housing by a swivel mount permitting the wheel to swivel in any direction in response to the user moving the walking aid. The length of the housing is selected such that the user can comfortably hold the handle of the walking aid while walking with the wheel supporting the housing by rolling along the ground. The housing contains a cell phone which is coupled to an earphone and microphone interface worn by the user. The earphone / microphone interface permits the user to operate the cell phone device to make and receive telephone calls. A GPS unit is contained in the housing. The GPS unit has a voice interface which is configured to receive a plurality of operating instructions as voice commands. The voice interface is further configured to transmit GPS information, such as location, direction of travel, speed and directions as voice messages. The earphone and microphone interface is configured to couple to the GPS unit such that the user can transmit voice commands to the GPS unit through the microphone and the GPS unit can transmit the voice messages to the user through the earphone.
