Description

[0001] The invention relates to an applicator for cosmetic products, particularly mascara, and an associated applicator assembly. The invention further relates to a method for manufacturing such an applicator.

[0002] Mascara applicators can be made from fibrous elements held between the longitudinal sections of a twisted metal rod; these are commonly called "twisted brushes." The ends of the fibrous elements usually form sheaths along the longitudinal extension of the brush. By their very nature, twisted brushes have a cylindrical sheath, which offers limited possibilities for makeup application. Numerous solutions have already been proposed to give twisted brushes a variety of shapes.

[0003] Mascara applicators can also be made by injection molding plastic; these are commonly called "plastic brushes." Plastic brushes can therefore come in a variety of shapes to create specific makeup effects.

[0004] FR 2 912 620 A1 and FR 2 937 514 A1 disclose state-of-the-art cosmetic applicators.

[0005] However, there is still a need for improvement of mascara applicators, in particular to obtain applicators that ensure a sufficient charge of cosmetic product and a good rendering of it, while maintaining a 25% flexibility of application of the cosmetic product.

[0006] The invention relates to a cosmetic product applicator, according to claim 1, and an associated applicator assembly, according to claim 6. The invention further relates to a method for manufacturing such an applicator, according to claim 7. The preferred features of the invention are defined in the dependent claims.

[0007] The invention relates to a cosmetic product applicator, comprising a core extending along a longitudinal extension direction X, called the main direction, and a plurality of protuberances made of material with the core, the protuberances extending from a proximal end connected to the core to a free distal end along an elongation direction so as to define a length.

[0008] At least some of the protrusions, referred to as nonlinear protrusions, exhibit a nonlinear generatrix along at least part of their length. Some of these nonlinear protrusions are implanted to form a plurality of groups, within each group of which the nonlinear protrusions are arranged to centrally delimit a space forming a reservoir for the cosmetic product. The group of protrusions comprises at least three nonlinear protrusions. All or some of the nonlinear protrusions exhibit at least one helical twist along at least a portion of their length, referred to as the helical twist portion. The helical twists of the nonlinear protrusions within the same group are substantially in the same direction and with the same pitch, so that the protrusions appear twisted together.

[0009] In other words, the protrusions are arranged on the surface of the core to define the boundaries of a volume, creating a storage area for the cosmetic product. Their arrangement forms a reservoir at the center, trapping the cosmetic product within this volume. This allows the applicator to retain more product when wrung out, particularly after being removed from a storage container. The applicator then carries a significant amount of product, enabling it to cover the entire area, or even multiple areas, in a single application.

[0010] Furthermore, the non-linear profile of the protrusions advantageously allows for an increase in the length of the protrusion, thus creating a flexible effect when applying makeup.

[0011] According to different modes of implementation, which may be taken together or separately: The protrusions project from the core, the protrusions are arranged around the entire circumference of the core, the protrusions have a tapered profile, the space forming a reservoir has a polygonal cross-section, each protrusion being a vertex of the polygon, the helical winding has at least one turn, all the protrusions have a helical winding, said at least one helical winding is located on a radially distal portion of the protrusions, said at least one helical winding extends over at least 1 / 4 of the length of the protrusions, or even over at least 1 / 3, 1 / 2, 2 / 3, 3 / 4 of the length of the protrusions, said at least one helical winding extends over the entire length of the protrusions, the protrusions include at least one groove, the groove extends parallel to said at least one Helical winding, the groove extends by winding around the protrusion,The cross-section of the protrusions has at least one groove, or even two, three, or four grooves; the groups of protrusions are arranged in longitudinal rows, the rows being substantially parallel to the principal X direction; the groups of protrusions are arranged in longitudinal rows, the rows winding helically around the core; the applicator is obtained by additive manufacturing.

[0012] The invention also relates to an applicator assembly for cosmetic products, comprising: a container comprising a body forming a reservoir intended to hold the cosmetic product, and an applicator of the cosmetic product as defined above adapted to be fixed to the container, so that the applicator is housed inside the reservoir.

[0013] The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing an applicator for a cosmetic product, particularly mascara, as defined above. The method comprises: a step of developing a digital model of the applicator; a step of manufacturing the applicator using the digital model.

[0014] The invention will be better understood, and other objects, details, features, and advantages thereof will become more apparent from the following detailed explanatory description of at least one embodiment of the invention given by way of purely illustrative and non-limiting example, with reference to the accompanying schematic drawings. In these drawings: there figure 1 is a cross-sectional view of an example of an applicator assembly according to the invention; the figure 2 is a side view of an applicator according to a first embodiment; the figure 3 is a side and detail view of the applicator protrusions of the figure 2 ; there figure 4 is a top view of the applicator of the figure 2 ; there figure 5 is a side view of an applicator according to a second embodiment; the figure 6 is a side and detail view of the applicator protrusions of the figure 5 ; there figure 7 is an isometric and detailed view of the applicator protrusions of the figure 5 ; there figure 8 is a side view of an applicator according to a third embodiment; the figure 9 is a side and detail view of the applicator protrusions of the figure 8 ; there figure 10 is an isometric and detailed view of the applicator protrusions of the figure 8 ; there figure 11 is a side view of a part of an applicator according to a fourth embodiment of the invention.

[0015] As illustrated on the figure 1 The invention relates to an applicator 1 for cosmetic products, particularly mascara, comprising a core 2 extending along a longitudinal extension direction, referred to as the principal direction and designated X on the figure 1 .

[0016] The core 2 has a first end 2a, also called the proximal end, suitable for being fixed to a rod 3 of an applicator 1 by a sleeve 4 extending the core 2, and a second free end 2b, also called the distal end, opposite the first end 2a along the main direction X. In a conventional manner, the sleeve 4 extends from a stop ring 5.

[0017] Soul 2 can be full or hollow without going outside the framework of the invention.

[0018] The web 2 here has a circular cross-section with respect to the principal direction X. In embodiments not shown, the web 2 may also have a polygonal cross-section, such as triangular, or a quadrilateral shape, without departing from the scope of the invention.

[0019] The web 2 is preferably of substantially constant cross-section from its first end 2a to its second end 2b, at least up to a flared part which may possibly be present at the second end 2b of the web 2.

[0020] The applicator 1 further comprises a plurality of protrusions 6 formed from the material along with the core 2. The core 2 and the protrusions 6 are thus formed as a single piece. Note that the sleeve 4 is devoid of protrusions 6.

[0021] Protuberances 6 protrude from soul 2. In other words, protuberances 6 extend in projection from soul 2. Advantageously, the protrusions 6 are arranged around the entire circumference / periphery of the core 2. In the embodiments shown in the various figures, some protrusions 6 project from the core 2 in a direction substantially normal to the principal direction X, referred to as the radial direction, while other protrusions 6 project from the core 2 at an angle to the principal axis X other than 90°. In other words, some protrusions 6 may be inclined towards the second end 2b of the core 2 or inclined towards the first end 2a of the core 2.

[0022] Advantageously, the protuberances have a tapered profile.

[0023] The protuberances 6 extend from a proximal end 6b connected to the core 2 to a free distal end 6a along an elongation direction so as to define a height H and a length L.

[0024] The term "height of the protuberances" refers to the height H measured between the radial periphery of the web 2 and the free distal end 6a of the protuberance (see figure 4 ). In other words, "height of the protuberances" means their radial extension measured from the base of protuberance 6, projected onto a plane orthogonal to the principal axis X.

[0025] Thus, as spotted on the figure 4 , the height H of the protuberances 6 is on the order of, for example, 4mm.

[0026] The term "length of the protuberances" refers to the distance L measured from the base of the protuberance 6, i.e., from the proximal end 6b to the free distal end 6a (see figure 4 ).

[0027] The term "protuberances 6 protrude from the core 2 in a direction substantially normal to the principal direction X" means protuberances 6 that protrude in a plane comprising the principal direction X and a radial direction of the principal direction X. In other words, the protuberances 6 may be inclined, in this plane, towards the proximal and / or distal end, without departing from the scope of the invention.

[0028] Preferably, the protuberances 6 all have substantially the same height H. In other words, the distance between the radial periphery of the core 2 and the free end 6a of the protuberances 6 is substantially the same for all the protuberances 6 that comprise the applicator 1. The protuberances 6 thus form a substantially cylindrical envelope.

[0029] However, the so-called distal protuberances 6, that is, the protuberances 6 which extend near the second end 2b of the core 2, may have different heights H so as, for example, to form an ogive-shaped envelope E2 as shown in figures 2 , 5 And 8 The protuberances 6 extending between the first end 2a of the core 2 and the distal protuberances 6 form a substantially cylindrical envelope E1 (see figures 2 , 5 And 8 ).

[0030] The ogive-shaped envelope makes it easier to insert applicator 1 through the neck of the container holding the cosmetic product and to apply the cosmetic product to the inner corner of the eye.

[0031] In an alternative embodiment not shown, the protuberances 6 may have a different height H from one row RI, Rr to another (the rows RI and Rr being described below in relation to the groups of protuberances).

[0032] The free distal ends 6a of the protrusions 6 then form an envelope whose shape can vary without departing from the scope of the invention. For example, the height H of the protrusions 6 can vary within the same longitudinal and / or radial row RI, Rr, from the first end 2a to the second end 2b of the core 2, to form envelopes that are at least partially concave, convex, or even envelopes with multiple vertices.

[0033] In the embodiments shown here, the protrusions 6 have a cross-section 7 whose dimensions are constant from the proximal end 6b to the distal end 6a. The cross-section 7 of a protrusion 6 is the section made in a plane orthogonal to the longitudinal extension direction of the protrusion 6.

[0034] In an alternative embodiment not shown, the dimensions of the cross-section 7 are higher in the vicinity of the proximal end 6b than in the vicinity of the distal end 6a of the protrusion 6. In other words, the cross-section 7 of the protrusion 6 has dimensions that evolve from the proximal end 6b to the distal end 6a.

[0035] According to the invention, at least a part of the protuberances has a non-linear generator, in particular in the shape of a helix, over at least a part of their length L. These protuberances will be referred to hereafter as non-linear protuberances.

[0036] All or part of the non-linear protuberances 6 exhibit at least one helical winding 9 over at least a portion of their length L, called the portion of helical winding 9.

[0037] A portion of helical winding 9 is defined as a portion or section of the prominence 6 that winds helix around the elongation direction. This portion of prominence 6 has a non-linear generatrix, specifically a helical shape.

[0038] In other words, some or all of the protuberances 6 wrap around the elongation direction along a curve whose tangent at each point makes a constant angle with a given direction which is here the elongation direction.

[0039] The elongation direction is the direction from the base of the protrusion towards its free end. It can be approximated by an axis orthogonal or inclined with respect to the principal X direction. The axis can protrude from the web in a direction substantially normal to the principal X direction, called the radial direction, or it can protrude at an angle with the principal X direction other than 90°, that is to say, an axis inclined towards one of the ends of the web.

[0040] Advantageously, the helical winding 9 has at least one turn. This allows, in particular, the formation of a sufficient groove to improve the envelopment of the areas to be made up and therefore a better distribution of the cosmetic product.

[0041] The helical winding 9 allows for the formation of a groove (not shown) in which the cosmetic product can be stored. An additional reservoir of cosmetic product is thus created.

[0042] Furthermore, the helical winding 9 increases the length L of the protrusion 6, thus creating a flexible effect during makeup application. This results in more flexible protrusions 6, allowing for smooth and even application of the cosmetic product to the area being made up. The user therefore experiences a feeling of softness while applying makeup.

[0043] The flexibility of the 6 protrusions also facilitates the entry and / or exit of the applicator from the container.

[0044] Furthermore, the helical shape of the protrusions allows for better coverage of the area being made up, particularly the eyelashes, and ensures more even distribution of the cosmetic product. In the case of eyelashes, they can be positioned in the groove created by the helical shape of the protrusions, allowing them to coat both the upper and lower surfaces of the lashes as well as their lateral parts. This helps to increase their volume.

[0045] In the embodiments shown in the various figures, all the protuberances 6 have a helical winding 9 extending over the entire length L.

[0046] In other embodiments not shown, the protrusions 6 may have a helical winding 9 over only a portion of their length L. Preferably, the portion of helical winding 9 is located on an external portion of the protrusions 6, i.e., radially distally. In other words, the portion of helical winding 9 is located between the midpoint of the length L and the free distal end 6a of the protrusion 6, or beyond the midpoint in the direction of the free distal end 6a of the protrusion 6.

[0047] The helical winding portion 9 can thus extend over at least 1 / 4 of the length of the protuberances 6, or even over at least 1 / 3, 1 / 2, 2 / 3, 3 / 4, of the length of the protuberances 6.

[0048] It is also possible to consider that the protuberances 6 have several portions of helical winding 9. The portions of helical winding 9 may for example be alternated with straight portions (not shown).

[0049] The term "straight portion" means a portion of the length of the protuberance 6 which does not have a helical winding 9, in other words the generatrix of this portion is linear.

[0050] Furthermore, as represented in the figures 5 à 11 , the protuberances 6 may include at least one groove 13.

[0051] At least one groove 13 may extend over all or part of the length L of the protrusion 6. The groove 13 may extend over a portion of the protrusion 6 having a helical winding 9 or over a straight portion. This results in a grooved protrusion 6 or a grooved portion of a protrusion 6.

[0052] Portions including at least one groove 13 may be alternated with smooth portions, i.e. portions of protrusions 6 not including grooves 13.

[0053] The 13 grooves act as an additional reservoir and thus allow for greater storage of cosmetic products, particularly mascara.

[0054] As illustrated in figures 5 à 7 The groove 13 can extend along the profile of the protrusion 6. Thus, on a straight section, the groove 13 is straight. In the case of a section with a helical winding 9, the groove 13 follows the helical winding and extends parallel to this helical winding 9, as shown in the diagrams. figures 5 à 7 .

[0055] In illustrated embodiment variants at figures 8 à 11 The groove 13 can also extend by wrapping around the protrusion 6. This wrapping gives the protrusion a twisting effect. The protrusion appears to be twisted on itself.

[0056] Thus, the applicator 1 comprises at least one protrusion 6 comprising at least one of the following protrusion portions 6: portions of protuberance 6 having a helical winding 9 and smooth, portions of protuberance 6 having a helical winding 9 and grooved.

[0057] Furthermore, without departing from the scope of the invention, the applicator 1 may also comprise at least one of the following protrusion portions 6: portions of protuberance 6 straight and smooth, portions of protuberance 6 straight and grooved.

[0058] Furthermore, a portion of said non-linear protrusions 6 is implanted to form a plurality of groups 14, in each of which said protrusions 6 are arranged so as to centrally delimit a space (or volume) V forming a reservoir for cosmetic product. In other words, the protrusions 6 are arranged on the surface of the core 2 so that they define the boundaries of the volume V, creating a cosmetic product storage zone at their center.

[0059] In order to form this space V, each of the groups 14 comprises at least two nonlinear prominences 6. Preferably, each of the groups 14 comprises at least three nonlinear prominences 6.

[0060] The 6 nonlinear protrusions of each group 14 are implanted on the surface of the core 2 in such a way as to form a polygon. Each vertex of the polygon corresponds to a 6 nonlinear protrusion of group 14.

[0061] The non-linear protrusions 6 of each of the groups 14 exhibit a helical winding 9 in substantially the same direction and with the same pitch, such that the three protrusions appear twisted together. This further delineates the central volume V for storing the cosmetic product.

[0062] The groups 14 are arranged in a plurality of rows RI, Rr which extend over the entire periphery of the soul 2.

[0063] In what follows, we will differentiate between longitudinal rows RI and radial rows Rr. A longitudinal row RI is defined as a row of 14 groups of 6 protrusions, that is, a succession of 14 groups of 6 protrusions aligned or substantially aligned, arranged along the core 2, on the same line. A radial row Rr is defined as a row of 14 groups of 6 protrusions arranged around the core 2, in the same plane orthogonal to the core 2, the plane intersecting the core 2 in a direction that is here substantially circular.

[0064] The longitudinal rows RI extend along the longitudinal direction X.

[0065] In the embodiments shown, the longitudinal rows Rl are characterized by being inclined with respect to the main extension axis X. More precisely, the longitudinal rows RI follow substantially helical lines, the lines being drawn on the surface of the web 2, from its first end 2a to its second end 2b. All the longitudinal rows Rl have the same inclination and are parallel to each other.

[0066] In an alternative embodiment not shown, the longitudinal rows Rl are parallel to the main extension axis X.

[0067] The radial spacing between the longitudinal rows RI around the periphery of the core 2 is based on a constant angular distance α. The angular distance will be within the range [0°; 90°]; it will be on the order of approximately 60°.

[0068] The realization examples illustrated here present six longitudinal rows RI, this number of longitudinal rows Rl varying according to the angular distance chosen between the longitudinal rows RI.

[0069] In the embodiments shown, the six groups 14 of protuberances 6 of two successive radial rows Rr are offset axially and angularly, one with respect to the other, along the extension axis X. This angular offset allows here the formation of the helical longitudinal rows RI.

[0070] In an alternative embodiment not shown, the protrusions 6 of two adjacent longitudinal rows RI are aligned axially with respect to each other and form a radial row Rr. Two successive radial rows Rr comprise the same number of groups 14 of protrusions 6.

[0071] Along the same axial portion, the rows exhibit the same number of groups 14 of protuberances 6, to within one protuberance. In other words, the R1 rows have approximately the same spacing between their protuberances 6.

[0072] In the example shown in the figure 2 , the longitudinal rows Rl are helical and comprise sixteen groups 14 of protuberances 6.

[0073] In the first embodiment illustrated in figures 2 à 4 The applicator 1 comprises protrusions 6 projecting radially from the core 2. The protrusions 6 located towards the second end 2b of the core 2 have different heights H so as to form an ogive-shaped envelope E2. The remaining protrusions 6 have the same height H and together form a substantially cylindrical envelope E1. In this embodiment, all the protrusions 6 are smooth and non-linear. They exhibit a helical winding 9 extending along their entire length L. The protrusions 6 are arranged in groups 14 of three protrusions 6 on the surface of the core 2 so as to form a triangle, each protrusion 6 being a vertex of this triangle. The groups 14 of protrusions 6 are arranged in substantially helical longitudinal rows R1. In the second embodiment illustrated in figures 5 à 7 The applicator 1 comprises protrusions 6 projecting from the core 2 in a radial direction. The protrusions 6 shown have the same height H so as to form a substantially cylindrical envelope E1. In this embodiment, all the protrusions 6 are non-linear and have a helical winding 9 extending over their entire length L. These protrusions 6 further comprise a groove 13 extending over the entire length L of the protrusion 6 and following the helical winding 9. In the third embodiment illustrated in figures 8 à 10 The applicator 1 comprises protrusions 6 projecting from the core 2 in a radial direction. The protrusions 6 shown have the same height H so as to form a substantially cylindrical envelope E1. In this embodiment, all the protrusions 6 are non-linear and have a helical winding 9 extending over their entire length L. These protrusions 6 further comprise a groove 13 that extends over the entire length L of the protrusion 6 and winds around the protrusion 6. In the fourth embodiment illustrated in the figure 11 The applicator 1 comprises protrusions 6 projecting from the core 2 in a radial direction. The protrusions 6 shown have the same height H so as to form a substantially cylindrical envelope E1. In this embodiment, all the protrusions 6 are non-linear and exhibit a helical winding 9 extending along their entire length L. The protrusions 6 are arranged in groups 14 of three protrusions 6 on the surface of the core 2 so as to form a triangle, each protrusion 6 being a vertex of this triangle. The groups 14 of protrusions 6 are arranged in substantially helical longitudinal rows Rl. These protrusions 6 further include four grooves 13 which extend along the entire length L of the protrusion 6 and which wrap around the protrusion 6. The four grooves 13 are regularly distributed around the periphery of the protrusion 6.This results in protuberances 6 with a cross-section 7 in the shape of a cross.

[0074] Any other cross-sectional shape 7 can be considered. The shape of the cross-section 7 of the protrusions 6 is determined in particular by the number of grooves 13 present on the protrusion 6. Depending on the profile of the protrusion 6, the shape of the cross-section 7 can vary along the length of the protrusion 6.

[0075] Advantageously, each of the non-linear protuberances 6 has a similar general profile, i.e., for example, the same number of turns, a uniform arrangement, the same orientation with respect to the principal direction X, the same cross-section.

[0076] It should also be noted that applicator 1 advantageously forms a brush.

[0077] Preferably, the applicator 1 described above is obtained by an additive manufacturing process.

[0078] Additive manufacturing, or additive synthesis, refers to a manufacturing process that involves adding material, generally with computer assistance. This type of manufacturing process is also called three-dimensional printing or 3D printing.

[0079] Using 3D printing to manufacture applicator 1 allows for the creation of a core 2 and protrusions 6 with original and complex shapes that would be very complex or even impossible to achieve using a conventional injection molding process. It is thus possible to directly create, in a single manufacturing operation, the complex shape that will give the protrusion its characteristics. Furthermore, this technique eliminates the need for complex molds.

[0080] Various additive manufacturing technologies known to those skilled in the art can be used. These include, in particular: fused deposition modeling (FDM, for Fused deposition modeling in English), selective laser melting (SLM for Selective Laser Melting (in English), selective laser sintering (SLS for Selective Laser Sintering (in English), electron beam fusion (EBM for Electron Beam Melting (in English), stereolithography or photopolymerization (SLA for Stereolithography Apparatus in English), or laminated object modeling (LOM for Laminated Object Manufacturing in English).

[0081] Preferably, these are sintering and / or stereolithography technologies.

[0082] The invention further relates to a method for manufacturing an applicator 1 as described above. The method comprises: a step of developing a digital model of applicator 1; a step of manufacturing applicator 1 using the digital model.

[0083] The digital model is a computer file that represents a virtual model of applicator 1. To obtain it, applicator 1 is first modeled to produce a CAD model, which is then converted into a suitable format such as an .STL file. The file is then processed by an additive manufacturing machine. During processing, the digital model is sliced into a number of layers depending on the desired precision. Preferably, the layers correspond to a cross-section 7 of applicator 1, that is, a section of applicator 1 taken in a plane perpendicular to the principal X direction.

[0084] The appropriate materials for manufacturing the core 2 and the protrusions 6 by three-dimensional printing are polyamides, photosensitive resins, polylactic acid (PLA), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS).

[0085] The invention also relates to an applicator assembly 15 for a cosmetic product, comprising a container 17 having a body forming a reservoir for holding the cosmetic product (not shown), and an applicator 1, as described above, adapted to be fixed to the container 17, such that the applicator 1 is housed inside the reservoir. The applicator 1 is fixed, for example, to a proximal end 3a of the stem 3, itself fixed to a cap 19 advantageously screwed onto the container 17.

[0086] It should be noted that after assembly, the sleeve 4 is located in the rod 3 and the first end 2a (proximal) of the core 2 corresponds to the distal end 3b of the rod.

[0087] Furthermore, to prevent the applicator 1 from becoming overloaded with cosmetic product, the container 17 may include a wiper 21, fixed inside the neck. When the user removes the applicator 1 from the container 17, the applicator 1 slides inside the wiper 21. The wiper 21 scrapes the excess cosmetic product from the stem 3 and the applicator 1.

[0088] The wiper 21 allows you to adjust the amount of product on the applicator 1 and avoids excessive application of cosmetic product on the eyelashes.
