Description

[0001] The invention relates to an applicator for a cosmetic product, in particular mascara, and an associated applicator assembly. The invention further relates to a method for manufacturing such an applicator.

[0002] Mascara applicators can be obtained from fibrous elements held between the longitudinal parts of a twisted metal pin; they are then commonly called "twisted brushes". The ends of the fibrous elements usually form envelopes in a longitudinal extension direction of the brush. Twisted brushes have, by their manufacturing method, a cylindrical shaped envelope which offers few possibilities in terms of makeup effects. Many solutions have already been proposed to give varied shapes to twisted brushes.

[0003] Mascara applicators can also be made by injection molding plastic, and are commonly referred to as "plastic brushes." Plastic brushes can be given unique shapes to create unique makeup effects.

[0004] FR 2 937 514 A1, FR 2 912 620 A1 and FR 2 982 466 A1 disclose state-of-the-art cosmetic applicators.

[0005] However, there is still a need to improve mascara applicators, particularly to obtain applicators that ensure sufficient loading of cosmetic product and good restitution of the latter, while maintaining flexibility in the application of the cosmetic product.

[0006] The invention relates to an applicator for a cosmetic product, according to claim 1, and an associated applicator assembly, according to claim 9. The invention further relates to a method for manufacturing such an applicator, according to claim 10. Preferred features of the invention are defined in the dependent claims.

[0007] The invention relates to an applicator for a cosmetic product, comprising a core extending along a longitudinal extension direction X, called the main direction X, and a plurality of protuberances formed in one piece with the core, the protuberances extending from a proximal end connected to the core towards a free distal end in a direction of elongation so as to define a length and a height.

[0008] At least a portion of the protrusions has at least one helical winding over at least a portion of their length, called the helical winding portion. The helical winding has at least one turn, the length of the protrusion being greater than its height. The helical winding portion winds helically around the direction of elongation and forms a groove in which the cosmetic product can be stored. -

[0009] In other words, some or all of the protrusions have a helical profile along all or part of their length.

[0010] This particular profile of the protuberances advantageously allows the length of the protuberance to be increased and thus creates a supple effect when applying makeup.

[0011] In addition, the helical winding allows for better wrapping of the parts to be made up and therefore a better distribution of the cosmetic product. In particular, when it comes to eyelashes, these can be housed in the groove created by the helical shape of the protuberances allowing them to wrap both the upper and lower surfaces of the eyelashes as well as their lateral parts.

[0012] Finally, the formation of the furrow creates a storage area for cosmetic product. The applicator then has a large load of cosmetic product to be able to make up the entire area to be made up in a single stroke, or even several areas.

[0013] According to different embodiments, which can be taken together or separately: the protrusions project from the core, the protrusions are arranged around the entire circumference of the core, the protrusions have a tapered profile, all the protrusions have a helical winding, said at least one helical winding is located on a radially distal portion of the protrusions, said at least one helical winding extends over at least 1 / 4 of the length of the protrusions, or even over at least 1 / 3, 1 / 2, 2 / 3, 3 / 4, of the length of the protrusions, said at least one helical winding extends over the entire length of the protrusions, the protrusions comprise at least one groove, the groove extends parallel to said at least one helical winding, the groove extends by winding around the protrusion, the cross-section of the protrusions has at least one groove, or even two, or even three or even four grooves, the protrusions are arranged in the form of longitudinal rows, the rows being substantially parallel to the main direction X, the protuberances are arranged in the form of longitudinal rows, the rows winding helically around the core, the applicator is obtained by additive manufacturing.

[0014] The invention also relates to an applicator assembly for a cosmetic product, comprising: a container comprising a body forming a reservoir intended to contain the cosmetic product, and an applicator of the cosmetic product as defined above adapted to be fixed on the container, so that the applicator is housed inside the reservoir.

[0015] The invention finally relates to a method for manufacturing an applicator for a cosmetic product, in particular mascara, as defined above. The method comprises: a step of developing a digital model of the applicator; a step of manufacturing the applicator using the digital model.

[0016] The invention will be better understood, and other aims, details, characteristics and advantages thereof will appear more clearly during the detailed explanatory description which follows, of at least one embodiment of the invention given by way of purely illustrative and non-limiting example, with reference to the appended schematic drawings. In these drawings: there figure 1 is a sectional view of an example of an applicator assembly according to the invention; the figure 2 is a side view of an applicator according to a first embodiment; the figure 3 is a detail view of the protrusions of the applicator of the figure 2 ; there figure 4 is a perspective view of the applicator of the figure 2 ; there Figure 5 is a top view of the applicator of the figure 2 ; there figure 6 is a side view of an applicator according to a second embodiment; the figure 7 is a detail view of the protrusions of the applicator of the figure 6 ; there figure 8 is a top view of the applicator of the figure 6 ; THE figures 9 and 10 are perspective views of the applicator of the figure 6 ; there figure 11 is a perspective view of an applicator according to a third embodiment; the figure 12 is a detail view of the protrusions of the applicator of the figure 11 ; there figure 13 is a perspective view of an applicator according to a fourth embodiment; the figure 14 is a detail view of the protrusions of the applicator of the figure 13 ; there figure 15 is a side view of a portion of an applicator according to a fifth embodiment of the invention.

[0017] As illustrated in the figure 1, the invention relates to an applicator 1 for a cosmetic product, in particular for mascara, comprising a core 2 extending along a longitudinal direction of extension, called the main direction and marked X on the figure 1 .

[0018] The core 2 has a first end 2a, also called the proximal end, capable of being fixed to a rod 3 of the applicator 1 by a sleeve 4 extending the core 2, and a second free end 2b, also called the distal end, opposite the first end 2a along the main direction X. Conventionally, the sleeve 4 extends from a stop ring 5.

[0019] The applicator 1 further comprises a plurality of protrusions 6 formed in one piece with the core 2. The core 2 and the protrusions 6 are thus made in a single piece. Note that the sleeve 4 is devoid of protrusions 6.

[0020] The protrusions 6 protrude from the core 2.

[0021] Advantageously, the protrusions 6 are arranged around the entire circumference / periphery of the core 2.

[0022] In the embodiments shown in the various figures, the protrusions 6 project from the core 2 in a direction substantially normal to the main direction X, called the radial direction.

[0023] In other embodiments not shown, the protrusions 6 may protrude from the core 2 at an angle with the main axis X other than 90°. In other words, the protrusions 6 may be inclined towards the second end 2b of the core 2 or inclined towards the first end 2a of the core 2.

[0024] Advantageously, the protrusions have a tapered profile.

[0025] The protrusions 6 extend from a proximal end 6b connected to the core 2 towards a free distal end 6a in a direction of elongation so as to define a height H and a length L.

[0026] The term "height of the protrusions" means the height H measured between the radial periphery of the core 2 and the free distal end 6a of the protrusion (see Figure 5 ). In other words, we mean by "height of the protuberances" their radial extension measured from the base of the protuberance 6, in projection on a plane orthogonal to the main axis X.

[0027] So, as spotted on the Figure 5 , the height H of the protrusions 6 is of the order, for example, of 4 mm.

[0028] The term "length of the protrusions" means the distance L measured from the base of the protrusion 6, i.e. from the proximal end 6b to the free distal end 6a (see Figure 5 ).

[0029] By “the protuberances 6 project from the core 2 in a direction substantially normal to the main direction X”, we mean protuberances 6 which project in a plane comprising the main direction X and a radial direction of the direction X. In other words, the protuberances 6 may be inclined, in this plane, towards the proximal and / or distal end, without departing from the scope of the invention.

[0030] The core 2 may be solid or hollow without departing from the scope of the invention.

[0031] The core 2 here has a cross-section relative to the longitudinal direction X which is circular. In embodiments not shown, the core 2 may also have a polygonal cross-section, such as triangular, or in the shape of a quadrilateral, without departing from the scope of the invention.

[0032] The core 2 is preferably of substantially constant cross-section from its first end 2a to its second end 2b, at least up to a flared portion which may possibly be present at the second end 2b of the core 2.

[0033] The protrusions 6, for their part, extend in projection from the core 2. They are arranged in a plurality of rows RI, Rr which extend over the entire periphery of the core 2.

[0034] In the following, a distinction will be made between the longitudinal rows RI and the radial rows Rr. By longitudinal row RI of protuberances 6, we mean a row of protuberances 6, that is to say a succession of protuberances 6 aligned or substantially aligned, arranged along the core 2, on the same line. By radial row Rr of protuberances 6, we mean a row of protuberances 6 arranged around the core 2, in the same plane orthogonal to the core 2, the plane intersecting the core 2 in a direction which is here substantially circular.

[0035] The longitudinal rows RI extend along the longitudinal direction X.

[0036] In the embodiments shown in figures 2 to 5 And 11 has 14 , the longitudinal rows RI are parallel to the main extension axis X.

[0037] In the embodiments shown in figures 6 to 10 And 15, the longitudinal rows RI have the characteristic of being inclined relative to the main extension axis X. More precisely, the longitudinal rows RI here follow substantially helical lines, the lines being drawn on the surface of the core 2, from its first end 2a to its second end 2b. All the longitudinal rows RI have the same inclination and are parallel to each other.

[0038] The radial spacing between the longitudinal rows RI around the periphery of the core 2 is at a constant angular distance α. The angular distance will be in the interval [0°; 90°]; it will be of the order of approximately 30°.

[0039] The embodiments illustrated here have twelve longitudinal rows RI, this number of longitudinal rows RI varying according to the angular distance chosen between the longitudinal rows RI.

[0040] In the embodiments shown in figures 2 to 5 And 11 has 14 , the protrusions 6 of two adjacent longitudinal rows RI are axially aligned with respect to each other and form a radial row Rr. Two successive radial rows Rr comprise the same number of protrusions 6. The protrusions 6 of two successive radial rows Rr are also axially offset with respect to each other.

[0041] In the embodiments shown in figures 6 to 10 And 15 the protrusions of two successive radial rows Rr are angularly offset, one with respect to the other, along the extension axis X. This angular offset here allows the formation of the helical longitudinal rows RI.

[0042] On the same axial portion, the rows have the same number of protuberances 6, plus or minus one protuberance, for example nineteen protuberances 6. In other words, the rows RI, Rr have substantially the same pitch between their protuberances 6.

[0043] Preferably, the protuberances 6 all have substantially the same height H. In other words, the distance between the radial periphery of the core 2 and the free end 6a of the protuberances 6 is substantially the same for all the protuberances 6 that the applicator 1 comprises. The protuberances 6 thus form a substantially cylindrical envelope.

[0044] However, the so-called distal protuberances 6, that is to say the protuberances 6 which extend close to the second end 2b of the core 2, may have different heights H so as, for example, to form an envelope E2 in the shape of an ogive as shown in figures 2 , 6 , 11 And13 The protrusions 6 which extend between the first end 2a of the core 2 and the distal protrusions 6 form a substantially cylindrical envelope E1 (see also the figures 2 , 6 , 11 And 13 ).

[0045] The bullet-shaped casing facilitates in particular the insertion of the applicator 1 through the neck of the container containing the cosmetic product and the application of the cosmetic product to the inner corner of the eye.

[0046] In an alternative embodiment not shown, the protrusions 6 may have a height H that differs from one row RI, Rr to the next.

[0047] The free distal ends 6a of the protuberances 6 then form an envelope whose shape can vary without departing from the scope of the invention. For example, the height H of the protuberances 6 may vary within the same longitudinal and / or radial row RI, Rr, from the first end 2a to the second end 2b of the core 2, to form envelopes that are at least partly substantially concave, convex, or even envelopes having several vertices.

[0048] In the embodiments shown in figures 11 to 15 , the protrusions 6 have a cross-section 7 whose dimension is constant from the proximal end 6b to the distal end 6a. The cross-section 7 of a protrusion 6 is the section made in a plane orthogonal to the direction of longitudinal extension of the protrusion 6.

[0049] In the embodiments shown in figures 2 to 10, the dimensions of the cross section 7 are greater in the vicinity of the proximal end 6b than in the vicinity of the distal end 6a of the protuberance 6. In other words, the cross section 7 of the protuberance 6 has dimensions which evolve from the proximal end 6b towards the distal end 6a.

[0050] According to the invention, at least a portion of the protuberances 6 has at least one helical winding 9 over at least a portion of their length L, called the helical winding portion 9, i.e. over all or part of the length L of the protuberance 6.

[0051] The term helical winding portion 9 is understood to mean a portion or section of the protuberance 6 which winds in a helix around the direction of elongation. This protuberance portion 6 has a generator which is non-linear, in particular in the form of a helix.

[0052] In other words, some or all of the protuberances 6 wrap around the direction of elongation following a curve whose tangent at each point makes a constant angle with a given direction which is here the direction of elongation.

[0053] The direction of elongation is the direction from the base of the protuberance to its free end. It can be considered an axis orthogonal or inclined to the main direction X. The axis can project from the core in a direction substantially normal to the main direction X, called the radial direction, or can project at an angle to the main direction X other than 90°, i.e. an axis inclined towards one of the ends of the core.

[0054] The helical winding 9 has at least one turn. This makes it possible in particular to form a sufficient groove so as to improve the wrapping of the parts to be made up and therefore a better distribution of the cosmetic product.

[0055] As a reminder, the term “length of the protuberances” means the distance L measured from the base of the protuberance 6, i.e. from the proximal end 6b to the free end 6a, in other words it is the distance L measured by following the helical winding.

[0056] In the case of a protrusion 6 having a portion of helical winding 9, the height H of the protrusion 6 is greater than its length. The helical winding 9 makes it possible to increase the length L of the protrusion 6.

[0057] The helical winding 9 firstly makes it possible to form a groove 11 in which the cosmetic product can be stored. A cosmetic product reservoir is thus formed.

[0058] In addition, the helical winding 9 makes it possible to increase the length L of the protuberance 6. This results in more flexible protuberances 6, allowing the cosmetic product to be distributed smoothly onto the part to be made up. The user thus has an impression of softness when applying makeup.

[0059] The flexibility of the protrusions also makes it easier to insert and / or remove the applicator from the container.

[0060] Furthermore, the helical shape of the protuberances allows for better coverage of the area to be made up, particularly the eyelashes, and allows for better distribution of the cosmetic product. In the case of eyelashes, this allows for increased volume.

[0061] In the embodiments shown in the various figures, all the protrusions 6 have a helical winding 9 extending over the entire length L.

[0062] In other embodiments not shown, the protrusions 6 may have a helical winding 9 over only a portion of their length L. Preferably, the helical winding portion 9 is located on an external portion of the protrusions 6, i.e. radially distal. In other words, the helical winding portion 9 is located between the middle of the length L and the free distal end 6a of the protrusion 6 or even beyond halfway towards the free distal end 6a of the protrusion 6.

[0063] The helical winding portion 9 can thus extend over at least 1 / 4 of the length of the protrusions 6, or even over at least 1 / 3, 1 / 2, 2 / 3, 3 / 4 of the length of the protrusions 6.

[0064] It is also possible to envisage that the protrusions 6 have several portions of helical winding 9. The portions of helical winding 9 can for example be alternated with straight portions (not shown).

[0065] By “straight portion” we mean a portion of the length of the protuberance 6 not having a helical winding 9, in other words the generator of this portion is linear.

[0066] Furthermore, as represented in figures 11 to 15 , the protrusions 6 may comprise at least one groove 13.

[0067] The at least one groove 13 may extend over all or part of the length L of the protuberance 6. The groove 13 may extend over a portion of the protuberance 6 having a helical winding 9 or over a straight portion. This results in a grooved protuberance 6 or a grooved portion of the protuberance 6.

[0068] The portions comprising at least one groove 13 may be alternated with smooth portions, that is to say portions of protrusions 6 not comprising grooves 13.

[0069] The grooves 13 act as an additional reservoir and thus allow for greater storage of cosmetic products, particularly mascara.

[0070] As illustrated in Figures 11 and 12 , the groove 13 can extend following the profile of the protuberance 6.

[0071] So on a straight portion, groove 13 is straight.

[0072] In the case of a portion having a helical winding 9, the groove 13 follows the helical winding and extends parallel to this helical winding 9 as shown in Figures 11 and 12 .

[0073] As illustrated in figures 13, 14 And 15, the groove 13 can also extend by wrapping around the protuberance 6. This wrapping gives a twisting effect to the protuberance. The protuberance appears to be twisted on itself.

[0074] Thus, the applicator 1 comprises at least one protuberance 6 comprising at least one of the following protuberance portions 6: protrusion portions 6 having a helical winding 9 and smooth, protrusion portions 6 having a helical winding 9 and grooved.

[0075] Furthermore, without departing from the scope of the invention, the applicator 1 may also comprise at least one of the following protrusion portions 6: 6 straight and smooth protrusion portions, 6 straight and grooved protrusion portions.

[0076] In the first embodiment illustrated in figures 2 to 5, the applicator 1 comprises protrusions 6 projecting from the core 2 in the radial direction. These protrusions 6 are arranged in longitudinal rows RI parallel to the main extension axis X. The protrusions 6 located towards the second end 2b of the core 2 have different heights H so as to form an envelope E2 in the shape of an ogive. The rest of the protrusions 6 have the same height H and they form a substantially cylindrical envelope E1. The protrusions 6 also have a cross-section 7 whose dimension decreases from the proximal end 6b towards the distal end 6a. In this embodiment, the protrusions 6 have a smooth helical winding 9.

[0077] In the second embodiment illustrated in figures 6 to 10, the applicator 1 comprises protrusions 6 projecting from the core 2 in the radial direction. These protrusions 6 are arranged in substantially helical longitudinal rows RI.

[0078] In the third embodiment illustrated in Figures 11 and 12, the applicator 1 comprises protrusions 6 projecting from the core 2 in the radial direction. These protrusions 6 are arranged in longitudinal rows RI parallel to the main extension axis X. The protrusions 6 located towards the second end 2b have different heights H so as to form an ogive-shaped envelope E2. The rest of the protrusions 6 have the same height H and they form a substantially cylindrical envelope E1. The protrusions 6 also have a cross-section 7 whose dimension is constant from the proximal end 6b to the distal end 6a. In this embodiment, the protrusions 6 have a helical winding 9 comprising a groove 13 which extends over the entire length of the protrusion 6 and which follows the helical winding 9.

[0079] In the fourth embodiment illustrated in figures 13 and 14, the applicator 1 comprises protrusions 6 projecting from the core 2 in the radial direction. The protrusions 6 also have a cross-section 7 whose dimension is constant from the proximal end 6b to the distal end 6a. In this embodiment, the protrusions 6 have a helical winding 9 comprising a groove 13 which extends over the entire length of the protrusion 6 and which wraps around the protrusion 6.

[0080] In the fifth embodiment illustrated in figure 15, the applicator 1 comprises protrusions 6 projecting from the core 2 in the radial direction. These protrusions 6 are arranged in substantially helical longitudinal rows RI. The protrusions 6 shown have the same height H so as to form a substantially cylindrical envelope E1. The protrusions 6 also have a cross-section 7 whose dimension is constant from the proximal end 6b to the distal end 6a. In this embodiment, the protrusions 6 have a helical winding 9 comprising four grooves 13 which extend over the entire length of the protrusion 6 and which wrap around the protrusion 6. The four grooves 13 are regularly distributed around the periphery of the protrusion 6. This gives protrusions 6 having a cross-section 7 in the shape of a cross.

[0081] Any other shape of cross section 7 can be envisaged. The shape of the cross section 7 of the protrusions 6 is in particular determined by the number of grooves 13 present on the protrusion 6. Depending on the profile of the protrusion 6, the shape of the cross section 7 can vary along the length of the protrusion 6.

[0082] Advantageously, each of the protuberances 6 has a similar general profile, that is to say, for example, the same number of turns, a uniform arrangement, the same orientation relative to the main direction X, the same cross-section.

[0083] It should also be noted that the applicator 1 advantageously forms a brush.

[0084] Preferably, the applicator 1 described above is obtained by an additive manufacturing process.

[0085] Additive manufacturing is a manufacturing process that involves adding material, usually using a computer. This manufacturing process is also known as three-dimensional printing or 3D printing.

[0086] The use of three-dimensional printing to manufacture the applicator 1 makes it possible to produce a core 2 and protrusions 6 with original and complex shapes that could prove very complex or even impossible to obtain using a conventional injection molding process. It is thus possible to produce, directly and by a single manufacturing operation, the complex shape that will give its characteristics to the protrusion. In addition, this technique makes it possible to avoid the use of complex molds.

[0087] Various additive manufacturing technologies known to those skilled in the art can be used. In particular, these may include: fused deposition modeling (FDM, for Fused deposition modeling in English), selective laser melting (SLM for Selective Laser Melting in English), selective laser sintering (SLS for Selective Laser Sintering in English), electron beam fusion (EBM for Electron Beam Melting in English), stereolithography or photopolymerization (SLA for Stereolithography Apparatus in English), or Laminated Object Modeling (LOM for Laminated Object Manufacturing in English).

[0088] Preferably, these are sintering and / or stereolithography technologies.

[0089] The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing an applicator 1 as described above. The method comprises: a step of developing a digital model of the applicator 1; a step of manufacturing the applicator 1 using the digital model.

[0090] The digital model is a computer file that corresponds to a virtual model of the applicator 1. To obtain it, the applicator 1 is first modeled so as to obtain a CAD model which is then converted into a suitable format such as an .STL file. The file is then used on an additive manufacturing machine. When reading it, the digital model is cut into a certain number of layers depending on the desired precision. Preferably, the layers correspond to a cross-section 7 of the applicator 1, that is to say a section of the applicator 1 taken in a plane perpendicular to the main direction X.

[0091] Suitable materials for manufacturing the core 2 and the protrusions 6 by three-dimensional printing are polyamides, photosensitive resins, polylactic acid (PLA), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS).

[0092] The invention also relates to an applicator assembly 15 for a cosmetic product, comprising a container 17 comprising a body forming a reservoir intended to contain the cosmetic product (not shown), and an applicator 1, as described previously, adapted to be fixed to the container 17, so that the applicator 1 is housed inside the reservoir. The applicator 1 is fixed, for example, to a proximal end 3a of the rod 3, itself fixed to a cap 19 advantageously screwed to the container 17.

[0093] It should be noted that after assembly, the sleeve 4 is located in the rod 3 and the first end 2a (proximal) of the core 2 corresponds to the distal end 3b of the rod.

[0094] Furthermore, to prevent the applicator 1 from being overloaded with cosmetic product, the container 17 may include a wiper 21, fixed inside the neck. When the user removes the applicator 1 from the container 17, the applicator 1 slides inside the wiper 21. The wiper 21 scrapes the excess cosmetic product from the rod 3 and from the applicator 1.

[0095] The wiper 21 thus makes it possible to adjust the quantity of product present on the applicator 1 and avoids excessive application of cosmetic product to the eyelashes.
