Description

[0001] The invention relates to a cushioning device for objects made of honeycomb cardboard and corrugated cardboard, and a packaging box for this cushioning device. Transporting objects requires the use of cushioning devices to prevent damage. Currently, cushioning devices are made of polystyrene, which has the advantage of being lightweight, easy to mold, and not very abrasive. With environmental concerns becoming increasingly important, manufacturers are seeking to replace this material with a more environmentally friendly alternative. Some cushioning devices made of molded cellulose have thus been developed. This material, which is essentially made from recycled paper and water, has the disadvantage of being heavy, difficult to mold into complex shapes, abrasive, and generating dust. Furthermore, it does not absorb shocks well, and existing production capacity is insufficient to meet market demand. It is also possible to use crumpled paper, but this does not always provide good cushioning for the most fragile objects.

[0002] We also know of cushioning devices made of honeycomb cardboard. This consists of two parallel sheets of paper sandwiched between several sheets of paper positioned roughly perpendicular to the two parallel sheets. Honeycomb cardboard, although relatively bulky, offers good resistance to impacts perpendicular to the two parallel sheets but much lower resistance to impacts parallel to them. A sheet of honeycomb cardboard can be embossed (flattened) perpendicular to the planes of the parallel paper sheets to accommodate an object. This embossing makes the honeycomb cardboard more elastic, improving its shock absorption, but reduces its overall strength. It is also necessary to protect the objects to be wedged against abrasion, especially when in contact with the edges of a hollowed or embossed part of a honeycomb cardboard sheet.

[0003] Finally, corrugated cardboard can also be used, but its impact resistance and shock absorption capacity are relatively limited. Furthermore, its edges are abrasive, requiring additional protection for the object being secured.

[0004] The invention aims to resolve all or part of the aforementioned drawbacks.

[0005] To this end, a first object of the invention relates to a device for securing an object, intended to be positioned inside a cardboard box, particularly in a closed state, against at least one wall of the box. Such a cardboard box comprises walls defining a parallelepiped-shaped enclosure.

[0006] This levelling device includes: at least one honeycomb cardboard sheet comprising two parallel outer sheets of paper between which extend a plurality of paper sheets erected perpendicularly or substantially perpendicularly to the two outer sheets, at least one corrugated cardboard sheet comprising two parallel outer sheets of paper between which extends at least one fluted sheet, and in which: said at least one corrugated cardboard sheet is joined by one of its outer sheets to said at least one honeycomb cardboard sheet, and said at least one corrugated cardboard sheet has, in a plane parallel to its outer sheets, at least one edge which protrudes or is recessed from a face of said at least one honeycomb cardboard sheet.

[0007] Thus, when one or more corrugated cardboard sheets assembled with the honeycomb cardboard sheet have at least one edge that protrudes from one face of the honeycomb cardboard sheet(s), a shock suffered parallel to the corrugated cardboard sheet(s) is received by the edge(s) of the corrugated cardboard sheet(s) and not by the honeycomb cardboard sheet(s), so that the latter are protected.

[0008] Similarly, when one or more corrugated cardboard sheets assembled to the honeycomb cardboard sheet have at least one edge recessed from one face of the honeycomb cardboard sheet(s), an impact sustained parallel to the corrugated cardboard sheet(s) is received by the honeycomb cardboard sheet(s) and not by the edge(s) of the corrugated cardboard sheet(s), so that the latter are protected.

[0009] Thus, in all cases, due to the different dimensions of the panels, only one type of panel is damaged upon impact, the other type remaining intact, so that the latter can still absorb subsequent impacts. It is therefore understandable that the cushioning system can be reinforced along one or more specific directions by using one or more corrugated cardboard panels parallel to the specific direction(s) and attached to the honeycomb cardboard panel(s).

[0010] In one embodiment, at least one corrugated cardboard sheet may extend parallel or substantially parallel to the outer sheets of the honeycomb cardboard sheet. In this case, the strength of the cushioning device is improved parallel to the outer sheets of the honeycomb cardboard sheet.

[0011] In one variant, for better shock protection, at least one sheet of corrugated cardboard can be assembled to each outer sheet of said at least one sheet of honeycomb cardboard.

[0012] In another embodiment, which can be combined with the previous embodiment, at least one corrugated cardboard sheet can extend perpendicularly or substantially perpendicularly to the outer sheets of the honeycomb cardboard sheet. In this case, the strength of the support device is improved perpendicular to the outer sheets of the honeycomb cardboard sheet.

[0013] In one variant, for better shock protection, at least one sheet of corrugated cardboard can be assembled to each face of said at least one sheet of honeycomb cardboard perpendicular to its outer sheets.

[0014] The two embodiments described and their variants can be combined in any combination depending on the desired strength, the only limitation being that corrugated cardboard sheets extending perpendicularly to each other cannot both protrude from two contiguous faces of the honeycomb cardboard sheet(s).

[0015] In general, to improve its resistance perpendicular to the outer sheets of the honeycomb cardboard plate(s), the shimming device may include at least two superimposed and assembled honeycomb cardboard plates, in particular of the same shape and dimensions.

[0016] In general, to improve its resistance alongside the corrugated cardboard sheets, the cushioning device may include at least two overlapping and assembled corrugated cardboard sheets, in particular of the same shape and dimensions.

[0017] In general, at least one honeycomb cardboard sheet may have at least one cavity formed by stamping or cutting, particularly for receiving an object. Such a cavity opens onto at least one of the outer sheets of said at least one honeycomb cardboard sheet and may pass through one or more corrugated cardboard sheets assembled to at least one outer sheet. Advantageously, superimposed honeycomb cardboard sheets may have one or more communicating cavities.Advantageously, when the cushioning device comprises at least one corrugated cardboard sheet assembled to an outer sheet of a honeycomb panel onto which at least one cavity opens, said at least one corrugated cardboard sheet may have, in its plane—that is, in a plane defined by its outer sheets—an opening with an edge recessed or projecting from an edge of said at least one cavity so as to provide two-stage cushioning in the plane of said at least one corrugated cardboard sheet. When two or more corrugated cardboard sheets are assembled to this outer sheet of the honeycomb panel, they may be of the same dimensions at the edge of the cavity or of different dimensions. This or these corrugated cardboard sheets may also be at least one corrugated cardboard sheet having, in a plane parallel to its outer sheets, at least one edge which protrudes or is recessed from a face of said at least one honeycomb cardboard sheet.

[0018] The invention also includes a packaging box comprising: a cardboard package, particularly in a closed state, comprising walls defining a parallelepiped enclosure, a cushioning device according to the invention disposed inside the package and resting against at least one wall of the package.

[0019] Since the cushioning device is supported against at least one wall of the packaging, it is understood that a shock suffered by this wall of the packaging will be transmitted to the cushioning device and may be cushioned in two or more stages due to the different dimensions of the corrugated cardboard plate(s) and the honeycomb cardboard plate(s) of the cushioning device.

[0020] Preferably, for better protection, the walls of the packaging can be solid walls, without slits or openings.

[0021] Advantageously, for more effective cushioning, at least one corrugated cardboard panel, at least one edge of which extends beyond or is recessed from one face of at least one honeycomb cardboard panel, may extend perpendicularly to at least one wall of the packaging, the cushioning device being supported at least against this wall, and optionally against the opposite wall and / or against the other wall(s) perpendicular to at least one corrugated cardboard panel. This ensures rapid transmission of an impact received by one or more walls of the packaging to the cushioning device.

[0022] Since the packaging is parallelepiped in shape, a cushioning device may be supported against four opposing side walls in pairs and connected in pairs by one side, and may have at least one corrugated cardboard plate, at least one edge of which protrudes or is recessed from one face of said at least one honeycomb cardboard plate, which extends perpendicularly to these side walls.

[0023] In all embodiments, the cushioning device can rest on a bottom wall of the packaging, its or its honeycomb cardboard plates being preferably arranged parallel or perpendicular to this bottom wall.

[0024] The invention is now described with reference to the accompanying, non-limiting drawings, in which: [ Fig. 1 ] There figure 1 represents a schematic perspective view of a leveling device according to a first embodiment of the invention, [ Fig. 2 ] There figure 2 represents a schematic side view of a variant of the first embodiment, [ Fig. 3 ] There figure 3 represents a schematic perspective view of a leveling device according to a second embodiment of the invention, [ Fig. 4 ] There figure 4 represents a schematic perspective view of a leveling device according to a third embodiment of the invention, [ Fig. 5 ] There figure 5 represents a schematic perspective view of a leveling device according to a fourth embodiment of the invention, [ Fig. 6 ] There figure 6 represents a schematic perspective view of a packaging box according to one embodiment.

[0025] In the description of the figures, the same elements are designated by the same references.

[0026] By substantially parallel or perpendicular, we mean a direction / plane that deviates by no more than ±20°, or even by no more than 10° or by no more than 5° from a parallel or perpendicular direction / plane.

[0027] There figure 1 Figure 1 represents a cushioning device comprising a honeycomb cardboard sheet 10 and a corrugated cardboard sheet 20 assembled to the honeycomb cardboard sheet 10. This assembly can be carried out in the usual way, for example by gluing, stapling, sewing, interlocking, or any other suitable method. In particular, this assembly is irreversible. In other words, the assembled sheets cannot be separated without destroying the cushioning device.

[0028] The honeycomb cardboard plate 10 comprises two parallel outer sheets of paper 11, 12 between which extend a plurality of sheets of paper 13 erected perpendicularly or substantially perpendicularly to the two outer sheets 11, 12.

[0029] A sheet of honeycomb cardboard usually has a thickness, measured perpendicular to its outer sheets, of about 1 to 10 cm.

[0030] The corrugated cardboard sheet 20 also comprises two parallel outer paper sheets 21, 22 and one or more inner paper sheets 23 extending between the outer sheets 21, 22. In contrast, the inner sheet(s) 23 are fluted (corrugated), with the crests and troughs of the corrugations in contact with the outer sheets 21, 22. Thus, the inner sheet(s) 23 form flutes that extend parallel to the outer sheets 21, 22. Some corrugated cardboard sheets 20 may have two or more layers of corrugated inner sheets, the flutes of which extend in the same direction.

[0031] A sheet of corrugated cardboard usually has a thickness, measured perpendicular to its outer sheets, of about 4 to 10 mm.

[0032] Due to their structure, honeycomb cardboard and corrugated cardboard sheets have different strengths. The direction in which a honeycomb cardboard sheet has the highest strength is perpendicular to its outer layers. The direction in which a corrugated cardboard sheet has the highest strength is along its fluting.

[0033] There figure 1 represents an embodiment in which a corrugated cardboard sheet 20 is assembled to a honeycomb cardboard sheet 10 parallel to the outer sheets of the latter. In other words, one of the outer sheets 12 of the honeycomb cardboard sheet 10 is assembled to an outer sheet 21 of the corrugated cardboard sheet 20.

[0034] In this embodiment, the four edges 20a, 20b, 20c, 20d of the corrugated cardboard sheet 20 protrude from a face defined by one of the outer sheets 12 of the honeycomb cardboard sheet 10 in the plane of the corrugated cardboard sheet 20. Thus, in the event of an impact received by the support device 1 along a direction contained in a plane parallel to the outer sheets 11, 12, 21, 22, the corrugated cardboard sheet 20 will deform before the honeycomb cardboard sheet 10.

[0035] Of course, depending on the requirements, one, two, three, or four edges of the corrugated cardboard sheet could extend beyond the honeycomb cardboard sheet 10. These could be opposite or adjacent edges. Furthermore, the corrugated cardboard sheet 20 could be positioned so that its flutes extend perpendicularly to the sides to be reinforced. For example, in one variant of the figure 1 , only the edges 20a and 20c (perpendicular to the directions of the flutes) of the corrugated cardboard sheet 20 could protrude from the honeycomb cardboard sheet 10.

[0036] The method of implementation of the figure 1 describes a cushioning device 1 comprising a single sheet of honeycomb cardboard 10 and a single sheet of corrugated cardboard 20. It is also possible to provide a sheet of corrugated cardboard assembled to each of the outer sheets of the honeycomb cardboard sheet 10.

[0037] It is also possible to consider layering several sheets of honeycomb cardboard 10 (for example, of the same shape and dimensions) and assembling them with several sheets of honeycomb cardboard 20 (for example, of the same shape and dimensions) as shown, for example, in the side view of the figure 2 , on one side of the stack of honeycomb cardboard sheets (as shown), or even on both sides.

[0038] Many variations are therefore conceivable, the cushioning device being able to present a corrugated cardboard sheet assembled to a stack of honeycomb cardboard sheets (on one or both sides of the stack) or two or more superimposed corrugated cardboard sheets assembled to a single honeycomb cardboard sheet (on one or both sides).

[0039] In the embodiment shown figure 3 , the corrugated cardboard sheet 20 is always assembled to an outer sheet 11 of the honeycomb cardboard sheet 10, but its edges 20a, 20b, 20c, 20d are set back from each of the lateral faces 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d of the honeycomb cardboard sheet perpendicular to the outer sheets 11, 12. Thus, it is the honeycomb cardboard sheet 10 that will deform first when a shock is received along a direction contained in a plane parallel to the outer sheets of the sheets.

[0040] Many variations of this embodiment are also conceivable: superposition of one or more corrugated cardboard sheets, superposition of one or more honeycomb cardboard sheets, presence of one or more corrugated cardboard sheets assembled to each of the outer sheets of the honeycomb sheet.

[0041] In the implementation of the figure 4 Two corrugated cardboard sheets 20 are joined on two lateral faces 10d and 10c of the honeycomb cardboard sheet 10, this time perpendicular to the outer sheets 11 and 12 of the honeycomb cardboard sheet. The support device is then reinforced along a direction perpendicular to the outer sheets 11, 12 of the honeycomb cardboard sheet 10.

[0042] In the embodiment shown figure 5 , two corrugated cardboard plates 20 are also arranged perpendicularly to the outer sheets 11 and 12 of a honeycomb plate but are set back from it perpendicularly to the outer sheets 11, 12.

[0043] In this embodiment, the honeycomb cardboard sheet 10 also has two recesses 14, 15 for receiving objects. These recesses open onto at least one of the outer faces of the honeycomb cardboard sheet. These recesses can be made by stamping or by cutting as shown here. They can pass completely through the honeycomb cardboard sheet or extend from one outer sheet to the other, without, however, passing through the second outer sheet. When one or more corrugated cardboard sheets are assembled to an outer sheet of a honeycomb cardboard sheet, a recess formed in the latter can also be provided through the corrugated cardboard sheet(s). Thus, on the figure 5 , a 20" corrugated cardboard plate is also provided assembled to the outer sheet 11 of the honeycomb plate 10. This 20" plate is partially recessed from the outer sheet 11 of the honeycomb plate 10. In other words, it is smaller in size. Furthermore, the 20" plate has two openings whose edges 214, 215 surround the housings 14, 15 respectively. These edges 214, 215 are recessed, in the plane of the corrugated cardboard plate 20", from the edges 114, 115 of the housings 14, 15 located on the outer sheet of the honeycomb plate 10. Thus, if the object contained in one of these housings undergoes a sudden movement in a direction parallel to the plane of the plate 20", this movement will be slowed down in two stages, first by the honeycomb cardboard plate 10, then by the corrugated cardboard plate 20", thus further cushioning the shocks experienced by this object during its movement. In the example, a single 20" corrugated cardboard sheet is used, with edges 214 and 215 recessed from edges 114 and 115; however, these edges could also be projecting. Furthermore, the invention is not limited by the number of corrugated cardboard sheets. In particular, a single 20" corrugated cardboard sheet could be assembled to the other outer sheet of the honeycomb panel, or several overlapping corrugated cardboard sheets could be assembled to one or both outer sheets, each with an edge recessed or projecting from edge 114, 115 of the housing for multi-stage shock absorption. Finally, if two or more honeycomb cardboard sheets are present and overlapped, one or more housings provided on one of the sheets can communicate with corresponding housings on the adjacent sheets. These various variants can be combined and provided for in the different embodiments described, either alone or in combination.

[0044] Of course, there are many variations of the embodiments described with reference to figures 4 et 5 The possible configurations include the support device having one or more superimposed honeycomb cardboard plates, one or more superimposed corrugated cardboard plates assembled to one or more lateral faces of the honeycomb cardboard plate, and one or more housings, according to any combination.

[0045] The various embodiments described and their variants can also be combined in any combination with appropriate dimensions of corrugated cardboard sheets. For example, it is understood that the embodiments of figures 3 , 4 et 5 can easily be combined, while the implementation methods of figures 1 And 4are not compatible because the corrugated cardboard sheet is perpendicular to the outer sheets of the honeycomb cardboard sheet, on the left of the latter on the figure 4 is projecting from the outer leaf 12 on the same side as the plate 20 of the figure 1 . A person skilled in the art will be able to modify the dimensions of the corrugated cardboard sheets so that after assembly on adjacent faces of one or more honeycomb cardboard sheets, these corrugated cardboard sheets do not cross each other.

[0046] The cushioning device according to the invention is intended to be inserted inside a cardboard package, as shown figure 6 .

[0047] On this figure 6A packaging box 30 is shown, comprising a cardboard box 40 and a cushioning device 1 according to the invention. The cardboard box 40, shown here in a closed state and partially depicted so that its interior can be distinguished, comprises six walls 41-46 defining a parallelepiped-shaped enclosure. This box 40 can be made of any type of cardboard, including corrugated cardboard.

[0048] In the example shown, the package 40 comprises side walls 41-44 hinged together by parallel fold lines so that these walls form a belt, bottom parts hinged to the side walls by fold lines (here one bottom part hinged to each side wall) and fixed to each other to form the bottom 45, the side walls 41-44 being upright relative to the bottom 45, each side wall 41-44 being provided, on the side opposite the bottom parts, with a flap hinged to the side wall by a fold line, the flaps being fixed to each other to form the wall 46 and close the package.

[0049] In the example, the side walls 41-44 are solid walls, without slots and / or holes, against which the support device 1 rests. In particular, in the example, the edges 20a, 20b, 20c, 20d of an upper corrugated cardboard plate 20 and the edges 20'a, 20'b, 20'c, 20'd of a lower corrugated cardboard plate 20' of the support device 1 rest against the side walls 41-44. These edges protrude from the honeycomb cardboard plate 10 in the planes of the corrugated cardboard plates 20, 20' so that when an impact is received on one of the side walls 41-44, the corrugated cardboard plates 20, 20' will first absorb the impact by deforming, the honeycomb cardboard plate 10 absorbing the impact secondly. As already explained, this two-stage damping can also be achieved by making corrugated cardboard sheets 20, 20' set back from the faces of the honeycomb cardboard sheet 10, in other words, smaller in size than the latter.

[0050] It is thus understood that the present invention, by assembling a honeycomb cardboard panel and a corrugated cardboard panel of different dimensions, makes it possible to create a cushioning device capable of absorbing shocks in two or more stages, improving the protection provided by the cushioning device. This improved protection can be achieved when using the cushioning device inside cardboard packaging or packaging made of any other material.
