AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Adhesive seals bonded to equipment walls by gluing often detach during transport or storage due to tensile stresses induced by the 180° folding, leading to manual re-gluing and potential damage, which increases production costs and compromises functionality.

Method used

Incorporating through holes in the wall's terminal parts allows for local self-bonding of the adhesive seal's face to itself, significantly increasing the bonding intensity and reducing tensile stresses, thereby ensuring durable attachment.

Benefits of technology

The self-bonding mechanism enhances the durability of the adhesive bond, preventing detachment and damage, which reduces production costs and ensures the adhesive seal performs its intended function, such as sound insulation in vehicle dashboards.

Description

Technical field of the invention

[0001] The present invention claims priority from French application 2100356 filed on January 14, 2021.

[0002] The invention relates to equipment which comprises a wall to which an adhesive seal is secured by gluing. State of the art

[0003] In certain fields, such as for example that of vehicles, possibly of the automobile type, equipment is used comprising a wall to which an adhesive seal is secured by gluing. Sometimes, the wall comprises at least a first end portion having internal and external faces, and the adhesive seal comprises at least a second end portion having a face provided with an adhesive ensuring its bonding to the external and internal faces of the first end portion by folding (at approximately 180°). This is for example the case of equipment constituting dashboards intended to equip vehicles, and in which the wall is part, for example, of a defrosting duct.In this example, the wall is secured to a front part of the dashboard, intended to be placed near a lower part of a vehicle windshield with the interposition of the adhesive seal, which is then responsible for contributing to the sound insulation (or acoustic sealing) of the passenger compartment. The folding of the adhesive seal over a first terminal part of the wall then makes it possible to contribute to this sound insulation at the end of this wall.

[0004] The bonding of the adhesive seal to the wall of the equipment is generally carried out in the factory where the latter is manufactured. This is particularly the case when the equipment is a dashboard which is then stored in its manufacturing plant, then transported to an industrial production site of a car manufacturer where it is stored again before being sent to an assembly line to equip a vehicle under construction.

[0005] It very frequently happens that the sub-part of the (each) second end part of the adhesive joint, which is initially glued to the inner face of the first end part of the wall, becomes completely detached from the latter during transport or routing or storage. This results from the fact that the 180° folding of a second end part of an adhesive joint induces tensile stresses on its sub-part, initially glued to the inner face of the first end part of the wall, which the adhesive cannot fully compensate for on this inner face.Whenever this situation occurs, the technician responsible for installing the equipment, for example in a vehicle, is forced to first manually re-glue each detached sub-part of the second end part of the adhesive seal to the internal face of the first end part of the wall concerned, which wastes time and therefore introduces additional production costs. It may also happen that the detached sub-part of a second end part of the adhesive seal ends up damaged or folded back on itself by self-adhesion, which prevents it from performing its function and therefore requires a complete replacement of the adhesive seal, which is even more time-consuming.

[0006] The invention therefore aims in particular to remedy the aforementioned drawback. Presentation of the invention

[0007] For this purpose, it proposes in particular equipment comprising, on the one hand, a wall comprising at least a first terminal part having internal and external faces, and, on the other hand, an adhesive seal comprising at least a second terminal part having a face provided with an adhesive ensuring its bonding to the external and internal faces of the first terminal part by folding.

[0008] This equipment is characterized by the fact that the (each) first terminal part comprises at least one through hole allowing local bonding of the face of the second terminal part to itself.

[0009] Thanks to this "self-bonding" of the adhesive to itself in an area of a through hole, the intensity of the bonding of the second terminal part of the adhesive joint to the internal and external faces of the first terminal part of the wall is significantly increased locally, thus making this bonding durable.

[0010] The equipment according to the invention may include other characteristics which may be taken separately or in combination, and in particular: its wall may comprise two first opposite end portions, each having internal and external faces, and its adhesive seal may comprise two second opposite end portions, each having a face provided with an adhesive ensuring its bonding to the external and internal faces of the first end portions and to itself via the through holes, by folding; it may constitute a dashboard intended to equip a vehicle; in the presence of the last option, it may comprise a defrosting duct comprising the wall and secured to a front part of the dashboard, intended to be placed near a lower part of a windshield of the vehicle with the interposition of the adhesive seal.

[0011] The invention also provides a vehicle, possibly of the automobile type, and comprising equipment of the type presented above. Brief description of the figures

[0012] Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear on examining the detailed description below, and the attached drawings, in which: [ Fig. 1 ] schematically illustrates, in a perspective view, a part of an exemplary embodiment of equipment according to the invention, constituting a vehicle dashboard, and [ Fig. 2 ] schematically illustrates, in a sectional view, a first terminal part of a wall of the equipment of the figure 1 to which a second end part of an adhesive seal is glued. Detailed description of the invention

[0013] The invention aims in particular to propose EV equipment comprising a PC wall to which a JA adhesive seal is permanently secured by gluing.

[0014] In the following, it is considered, by way of non-limiting example, that the EV equipment is intended to be part of a motor vehicle. But the invention is not limited to this application. Indeed, EV equipment according to the invention may be a product or device that does not necessarily need to be part of an object (in the broad sense) or may be part of any device, system, device, vehicle (whatever the type), installation (possibly industrial) or building.

[0015] Furthermore, it is considered in the following, by way of non-limiting example, that the EV equipment is a dashboard intended to equip a vehicle (here of the automobile type). But the invention is not limited to this type of vehicle EV equipment. It in fact concerns any EV equipment that can equip a vehicle and comprises at least one wall to which an adhesive seal is permanently secured, by gluing.

[0016] It has been schematically illustrated on the figure 1 a part of an exemplary embodiment of EV equipment according to the invention (here a dashboard), intended to equip a vehicle (here an automobile).

[0017] As illustrated on the figures 1 et 2 , an EV equipment, according to the invention, comprises at least one PC wall and one JA adhesive seal.

[0018] The PC wall comprises at least a first terminal portion PT1 having opposite internal FI and external FE faces.

[0019] The adhesive seal JA comprises at least one second end portion PT2 having a face FJ provided with an adhesive ensuring its bonding to the external faces FE and internal faces FI of the (a) first end portion PT1 by folding (here substantially at 180°). In other words, the (each) second end portion PT2 of the adhesive seal JA comprises a first sub-part SP1 bonded to the external face FE of the (a) first end portion PT1 of the wall PC, and a second sub-part SP2 bonded to the internal face FI of this first end portion PT1.

[0020] In addition, the (each) first terminal part PT1 comprises at least one through hole TT which allows local bonding Z of the face FJ of the second terminal part PT2 on itself.

[0021] The adhesive being now bonded to itself in a zone Z of a through hole TT, this significantly increases the intensity of the bonding locally while limiting, or even canceling, the tensile stresses on its second sub-part SP2. Indeed, this “self-bonding” in the zone Z makes it possible to induce tensile stresses in opposite directions on the first SP1 and second SP2 sub-parts, and thus to obtain a quasi-equilibrium favoring the bonding of the remainder of the first sub-part SP1 on the external face FE of the first terminal part PT1 and of the remainder of the second sub-part SP2 on the internal face FI of this first terminal part PT1. There is therefore no longer any risk of complete detachment of the second sub-part SP2 from the (each) second terminal part PT2 of the adhesive joint JA, which, in the case in particular of vehicle EV equipment, avoids the technician losing time on the assembly line and therefore additional production costs.Furthermore, there is no longer any risk of damage or folding of the second sub-part SP2 of the (each) second terminal part PT2 of the adhesive seal JA by self-adhesion on itself, which allows the latter (JA) to perform its function.

[0022] It should be noted, although this does not appear on the figures 1 et 2 , that the PC wall may comprise two first terminal parts PT1 opposite each having internal FI and external FE faces, and at the same time the adhesive seal JA may comprise two second terminal parts PT2 opposite each having a face FJ provided with an adhesive ensuring its bonding to the external FE and internal FI faces of the first terminal parts PT1 and to itself via the through holes TT, by folding. But the PC wall of an EV equipment may only comprise a first terminal part PT1, and in this case the adhesive seal JA only needs to comprise a second terminal part PT2.

[0023] It should also be noted that in the example illustrated without limitation on the figure 1 , and in which the EV equipment constitutes a dashboard, the PC wall may be part of a defrosting duct CD secured to a front part PV of the EV dashboard which is intended to be placed near the lower part of a windshield of the vehicle with the interposition of the JA adhesive seal. In this application the JA adhesive seal is responsible for contributing to the sound insulation (or acoustic sealing) of the vehicle passenger compartment, and the permanent bonding of the first SP1 and second SP2 sub-parts of its second terminal part(s) PT2 guarantees that it will perform its function at the end (each end) of the PC wall.
