Description

[0001] The present invention claims priority from French application 2101699 filed on February 22, 2021.

[0002] The present invention relates to the field of vehicle structures and in particular for motor vehicles. The invention relates more particularly to an underbody structure for a motor vehicle.

[0003] The construction of a vehicle underbody structure, particularly for a motor vehicle, must meet numerous requirements, including impact tests.

[0004] One test, for example, measures a vehicle's resistance to a side impact such as a "pole impact." In this test, a vehicle is mounted on a platform launched at 32 km / h with an impact angle of 75° relative to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. The vehicle is positioned so that it hits a pole at the level of the driver's front seat. Since the deformation of the passenger compartment creates significant risks of injury, particularly to the thorax or abdomen, the test is particularly aimed at assessing the extent of this deformation.

[0005] In the event of a side impact of the "pole impact" type, part of the forces resulting from the impact pass through the underbody structure. An underbody structure is generally composed of a floor which extends between at least two longitudinal side members arranged on each side of the vehicle.

[0006] The underbody structure can be divided into a front and a rear unit that are assembled at the floor. Thus, the floor of the underbody structure can be divided into a front unit and a rear unit attached to a transverse heel board. The front and rear floor units are two separate pieces of sheet metal. The length of the front and / or rear floor units is predetermined based on the vehicle's wheelbase. This length may vary depending on different vehicle models.

[0007] In the case of an electric vehicle or a hybrid electric vehicle, the integration of batteries and specific equipment results in an additional weight of around 400 kg compared to a thermal vehicle.

[0008] The battery tray is usually mounted below the front floor unit, for example at the seat cross members. This results in a much greater rigidity of the underbody structure at the front floor unit compared to the rear unit.

[0009] This difference in rigidity between the front and rear units of the underbody structure floor generates significant shear stresses at the rear unit during a column impact type impact, with a high risk of the underbody structure floor opening.

[0010] Due to the variety of wheelbases for a given vehicle model, it is not possible to fix the battery tray at the rear unit of the underbody structure floor.

[0011] There is therefore a need to improve the behavior of a base structure in the event of column impacts.

[0012] Solutions are known for increasing the rigidity of an underbody structure, for example in document CN208021558U. The latter describes an underbody structure of a motor vehicle comprising two side members separated by a floor, and a cross member connecting the two side members at the level of the rear wheels of the vehicle. A reinforcing beam is fixed on the one hand to a side member and on the other hand to the cross member so as to improve the torsional rigidity of the underbody structure of the vehicle.

[0013] This solution is not suitable for absorbing shocks from poles. Furthermore, this document does not take into account the problem of a base structure comprising a front unit and a rear unit with different rigidities.

[0014] The object of the present invention is to address at least one of the problems and / or drawbacks mentioned above. In particular, the invention aims to provide an underbody structure for a vehicle comprising a floor with a front unit and a rear unit, which limits the effects of shear stresses due to differences in stiffness between the front and rear units of the floor, in the event of a side impact. Preferably, the invention aims to provide an underbody structure for a vehicle comprising a floor with a front unit and a rear unit, which limits the effects of shear stresses due to differences in stiffness between the front and rear units of the floor, in the event of a side impact, which is not very complex and which can be adapted to vehicles having different wheelbases.

[0015] For this purpose and according to a first aspect, the invention relates to an underbody structure for a motor vehicle, the underbody structure comprising a floor, and at least two longitudinal side members arranged respectively at each longitudinal edge of the floor; the floor is divided into at least one front unit; and a rear unit fixed to a transverse heel board.

[0016] The underbody structure is remarkable in that it further comprises at least one lateral reinforcement piece which comprises at least one elongated body extending from the heel board towards the nearest side member; the lateral reinforcement piece is fixed on the one hand to the heel board, and on the other hand to the front unit of the floor or to a side member at the front unit of the floor.

[0017] The side reinforcement piece allows in the event of a side impact to transmit the forces from the side member to the heel board. In the case of the front and rear units of the floor, this allows to reduce the forces which are transmitted to the floor and consequently to limit the risks of opening the floor in the event of a side impact, for example of the post type impact. In addition, the attachment of the side reinforcement piece being made on the one hand to the heel board and on the other hand to the floor or to the side member, the side reinforcement piece can be adapted to a wide variety of wheelbases depending on the variants of a vehicle model.

[0018] Preferably, the lateral reinforcement piece comprises a rigid zone fixed to the heel board and a zone deformable in compression; the zone deformable in compression comprising means promoting its deformation. Preferably, the means promoting the deformation in compression of the deformable zone comprise at least one of the following elements: a different grade of material compared to the rigid zone, a different thickness of sheet compared to the rigid zone, one or more notches, slots, corrugations, ribs, or rim, or a combination thereof.

[0019] The deformation of the deformable zone under compression allows some of the forces generated by an impact to be dissipated, providing protection for passengers. The rigid zone constitutes a force transfer zone towards the heel board.

[0020] In embodiments, the front unit comprising a rear seat crossmember with a compressive deformable zone in the event of an impact connected to the side member and a rigid zone, the underbody structure is remarkable in that the deformable zone of the lateral reinforcement piece extends transversely from the side member over a length less than the length of the deformable zone of the rear seat crossmember. Since the majority of the forces exerted in the transverse direction of the vehicle are transmitted to the crossmember, this configuration of the deformable zone of the reinforcement piece allows good transmission of the forces to the heel board.

[0021] Preferably, the lateral reinforcement piece is a piece comprising a body forming an angle with the side members, extending from the heel board towards the nearest side member, and further comprising at least one branch extending from the body. Preferably, at least one branch extends at the rear unit of the floor. The presence of branches in the lateral reinforcement piece makes it possible to better distribute the forces transmitted by the latter compared to a piece comprising a simple body.

[0022] Advantageously, the body and the branch of the lateral reinforcement piece are fixed to the heel board, so as to have a more homogeneous distribution of forces.

[0023] In embodiments, the lateral reinforcement piece being a flat sheet metal piece, the underbody structure is remarkable in that the rigid zone of the lateral reinforcement piece is a raised zone relative to the deformable zone surrounded by a stiffening edge. These embodiments make it possible to obtain a lateral reinforcement piece which takes up little space, in particular in the vertical direction. The lateral reinforcement piece can be easily hidden under the floor covering without hindering the visual appearance thereof.

[0024] In embodiments, the side reinforcement piece is a U-shaped profile with fixing lugs. The fixing lugs can be oriented inward or outward. The profiles are simple parts that can be assembled by welding at the ironwork station, without requiring an additional assembly station.

[0025] Preferably, the body of the lateral reinforcement piece forms an angle of at least 30° with the side member; preferably at least 45°. These orientations have given the best results for transmitting forces in the event of a side impact of the pole type.

[0026] Preferably, the lateral reinforcement piece rises vertically over a distance of at most 6 mm; preferably at most 8 mm; preferably at most 10 mm. The vertical limitation of the lateral reinforcement piece facilitates the installation of a floor covering above the floor without changing its visual appearance and without hindering the placement of the user's feet.

[0027] According to a second aspect, the invention relates to a motor vehicle comprising an underbody structure according to the first aspect. Preferably the vehicle comprises a propulsion battery tray arranged at the front unit of the floor of the underbody structure.

[0028] Other features and characteristics of the invention will emerge from the detailed description of at least one advantageous embodiment presented below, by way of illustration, with reference to the appended figures. These show: [ Fig. 1 ] there figure 1 is a bottom view of a detail of a base structure according to one embodiment of the invention; [ Fig. 2 ] there figure 2 is a perspective view from above of a detail of a base structure according to one embodiment of the invention; [ Fig. 3 ] there figure 3 is a perspective view from above of a detail of a base structure according to another embodiment of the invention.

[0029] In the remainder of the description, the term "comprise" is synonymous with "include" and is not limiting in that it allows the presence of other elements in the underbody structure, or the vehicle to which it refers. It is understood that the term "comprise" includes the terms "consist of".

[0030] Similarly, the terms "lower", "upper", "higher" and "lower" shall be understood according to their usual definition, in which the terms "lower" and "lower" indicate a greater proximity to the ground in the vertical direction than the terms "upper" and "high" respectively.

[0031] The terms “longitudinal”, “transverse”, “front” and “rear” shall be understood in relation to the general orientation of the vehicle as taken in its normal direction of travel.

[0032] By "profile" we mean an elongated element showing a particular profile according to its cross-section. Profiles can be obtained by folding, stamping or profiling a sheet or several sheets previously assembled together.

[0033] As shown in the figure 1 , an underbody structure 10 of an electric or hybrid electric vehicle comprises a floor 12, and at least two longitudinal side members 14 arranged respectively at each longitudinal edge of the floor. The underbody structure can be divided between a front unit and a rear unit which are assembled at the floor. Thus, the floor is divided into at least two units, with a front unit 16 and a rear unit 18, shown in figures 2 And 3. The front and rear floor units may be formed by separate sheet metal parts fixed together preferably by welding. The front and / or rear floor unit may have different dimensions in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle depending on the wheelbase of the latter.

[0034] There figure 1 is a bottom view of the base structure 10, showing the elements mounted below the floor 12.

[0035] A propulsion battery tray 20 is fixed under the front unit 16 of the floor by fixing means such as, for example, screw-nut systems. The propulsion battery tray 20 may be associated with support means which may also provide it with protection in the event of a side impact. For example, as shown in figure 1 , the underbody structure comprises longitudinal underfloor stretchers 22 which are connected to the side members by side impact protection parts, and the propulsion battery tray 20 to the stretchers 22.

[0036] The rear unit is attached to a transverse, vertical 24 heel board that separates the passenger compartment floor from the vehicle's trunk.

[0037] As shown, for example, in the figure 2 , the underbody structure further comprises at least one lateral reinforcement piece 26 which comprises at least one elongated body extending from the heel board towards the nearest side member. The lateral reinforcement piece 26 is fixed on the one hand to the heel board 24, and on the other hand to the front unit 16 of the floor 12 or to a side member 14 at the front unit 16 of the floor.

[0038] The base structure may comprise a plurality of lateral reinforcement pieces. Preferably, the base structure comprises at least two lateral reinforcement pieces arranged symmetrically on each side of the base structure. For simplicity, a single lateral reinforcement piece will be described.

[0039] The lateral reinforcement piece is preferably a piece made of steel, preferably with a thickness of less than 2 mm. It can be presented in the form of a stamped plate, a profile, or other.

[0040] At the rear unit, the side reinforcement piece is attached to the vertical wall of the heel board 24. At the front unit, the side reinforcement piece may be attached to a vertical wall of the spar or to the floor. When the side reinforcement piece is attached to the floor, its attachment may be vertically aligned with the attachments of a stretcher 22 of the propulsion battery tray 20.

[0041] The side reinforcement piece may be attached to the front unit or the rear unit by any means. Preferably, the side reinforcement piece is welded into the front unit and / or the rear unit so as not to include any protrusions that could hinder the installation of a floor covering.

[0042] By welding the lateral reinforcement piece together with the base structure, it can be mounted in an existing assembly line fitting station. There is no need to add a station for mounting a screwed part.

[0043] The lateral reinforcement piece is arranged so as to transmit the forces generated during a lateral impact of the post impact type, from one of the side members 14 to the heel board 24.

[0044] At the front unit 16 of the floor, the underbody structure 10 includes a rear seat crossmember 28, shown in figure 2 , which can serve as a support for front seat rails not shown. In order to absorb the forces in the event of a post impact, the rear seat crossmember can comprise a deformable zone 32 in compression in the event of an impact, fixed to the side member, and a rigid zone 30 which can, for example, extend transversely over at least the width of the propulsion battery tray, or up to a central tunnel.

[0045] As shown, for example, in the figure 2 , the lateral reinforcement piece 26 may comprise a rigid zone 34, fixed to the heel board 24 and a deformable zone 36 in compression in the event of an impact. The deformable zone 36 is arranged at the level of the front unit of the floor and preferably comprises means promoting its deformation.

[0046] In order to maintain good absorption of lateral impacts, the deformable zone 36 extends transversely from the side member 14 over a length less than the length of the deformable zone 32 of the rear seat cross member 28, i.e. the maximum length of the deformable zone 36 of the lateral reinforcement piece 26 along the Y axis of the vehicle, from the side member, does not exceed that of the deformable zone 32 of the rear cross member along this same Y axis.

[0047] The means promoting the compressive deformation of the deformable zone of the lateral reinforcement part comprise at least one of the following elements: a different grade of material compared to the rigid zone, a different sheet thickness compared to the rigid zone, one or more notches, slots, corrugations, ribs, or edges, or a combination thereof.

[0048] The rigid and deformable zones of the lateral reinforcement part can be formed by two separate elements assembled by splicing or by other means.

[0049] The body of the lateral reinforcement piece is arranged so as to form an angle with a side member 14. In other words, the body of the lateral reinforcement piece is neither parallel nor perpendicular to the side member. To improve the transmission of forces in the event of lateral impacts, the orientation of the body of the reinforcement piece corresponds to the orientation of the impact made during a post impact as presented above. The body of the lateral reinforcement piece preferably forms an angle of at least 30° with the side member; preferably at least 45°.

[0050] The height of the lateral reinforcement piece is determined so as not to excessively raise the height of a floor covering on which the feet of a vehicle passenger rest. Whatever the configuration of the lateral reinforcement piece, it will be preferable that its height, along the Z axis of the vehicle, is at most 10 mm; preferably, at most 8 mm; preferably at most 6 mm.

[0051] In the embodiment shown in the figure 2 , the lateral reinforcement piece 26 is an Ω-shaped profile, i.e. a U-shaped profile with fixing lugs oriented towards the outside of the profile. Depending on the variants, the lateral reinforcement piece may also be a U-shaped profile with fixing lugs oriented towards the inside of the profile. The lateral reinforcement piece here comprises a simple body without branches. Depending on the variants, the lateral reinforcement piece may further comprise one or more branches extending from the body. Here the lateral reinforcement piece 26 comprises a rigid zone 34 and a deformable zone 36 in compression, formed by butted profiles having different steel grades.

[0052] In another embodiment shown in figure 3 , the lateral reinforcement piece 38 is a piece comprising a body 40, and further comprising a branch 42. The body 40 extends from the heel board 24 to the front unit 16 of the floor of the underbody structure. The branch 42 splits the body at the rear unit 18 of the floor of the underbody structure. Depending on the variants, the lateral reinforcement piece may comprise several branches which are arranged at the front unit or at the rear unit of the floor of the underbody structure.

[0053] According to the embodiments, the lateral reinforcement piece can be attached to the heel board by its body or by at least one of its branches. For example, as shown in figure 3 , the lateral reinforcement piece 38 is fixed by welding to the heel board 24 at its body 40. The body 40 of the lateral reinforcement piece 38 is also fixed by welding at the front unit 16 of the floor of the underbody structure.

[0054] In this embodiment, the lateral reinforcement piece 38 is a flat sheet metal piece whose height along the Z axis is reduced compared to the embodiment of the figure 2 . For example, the lateral reinforcement part 38 is formed from steel with a thickness of 1.5 mm or less. For example, the steel used is an E275D type steel according to standard NF A 36-203.

[0055] The lateral reinforcement part 38 comprises a rigid zone 44, and a deformable zone 46. The rigid and deformable zones can be formed with the same grade and the same thickness of steel. The rigid zone 44 of the lateral reinforcement part 38 is a zone raised relative to the deformable zone 46 surrounded by a stiffening edge making it possible to stiffen the lateral reinforcement part around the entire periphery of the rigid zone 44. The rigid zone can be obtained for example by stamping.
