AI Technical Summary
Existing packaging solutions struggle to adapt to objects of varying sizes and shapes, leading to inadequate protection, increased costs due to the need for multiple packaging sizes, and environmental impact from unnecessary packaging materials.
A package design featuring a tray with a frame and a central part connected by flexible links and joints, allowing the tray to deform and adapt to the shape of each object, ensuring secure retention without damaging the object.
The package automatically adjusts to the characteristics of each object, providing effective protection without increasing the package size or weight, thus reducing transportation costs and environmental impact.
Description
[0001] The field of invention is logistics.
[0002] More specifically, the invention relates to a package, or a means of logistical packaging, i.e. a container, for transporting objects between two destinations, by means of a package.
[0003] To transport an object safely and securely, packages such as boxes or cartons are known.
[0004] Generally speaking, packages comprise a box with a base and a peripheral rim which together define an internal volume in which the object to be transported is housed.
[0005] The peripheral edge can be movable relative to the bottom of the box. As such, it includes several panels that can be folded down onto the bottom or as an extension of the bottom of the box.
[0006] The packages also include a cover that can move relative to the box. These covers can, in particular, adopt a closed position in which the cover closes the internal volume of the box.
[0007] In order to protect the objects being transported, some packages include means of retention to keep the object to be transported in position in the box.
[0008] Restraint means are known which take the form of foam panels integrated into the box and the lid. The foam panels can, if necessary, be attached to the box. In other words, the foam panels can be integrated into the box only if their presence is required.
[0009] More precisely, the foam panels are secured to the bottom of the box, possibly to its peripheral edge, and to the lid.
[0010] The object to be transported is then inserted into the internal volume so as to come into contact with the foam and be blocked by the foam at the bottom and the foam on the lid.
[0011] The major drawback of this type of restraint is its thickness, or, in other words, the space it takes up in the internal volume of the body.
[0012] In fact, the foam takes up a major part of the internal volume of the box. However, the foam has elastic characteristics so as to form deformable retaining means to fit the contour of the object to be transported.
[0013] However, depending on the size of the item, multiple packages should be planned.
[0014] For example, for a large item and for a small item, the same box cannot be used. In the case of a small item, if a box or package suitable for a large item is used, the foam is not properly deformed when in contact with the small item, and the latter may then move within the internal volume of the box, risking damage.
[0015] On the contrary, if a large object is introduced into the internal volume of a box intended to contain a small object, the package may become unusable due to insufficient space in the internal volume, as the lid cannot then be closed properly so as to completely seal the internal volume of the box. This then results in the object not being truly protected and is visible to anyone transporting the package, which could lead to a risk of the object being stolen.
[0016] Carriers or packaging professionals must therefore have packages of different sizes depending on the size of the objects to be transported.
[0017] According to another known technique, the retaining means are in the form of a plastic envelope inside which the object to be transported is slipped, the envelope is then deformed so that its walls come into contact with the object to be transported and hold it in its position.
[0018] According to a first type, the envelopes can be secured to the bottom of the box and their deformation can be carried out for example by heating so as to shrink the material, generally a plastic material, so that it stiffens on contact with the object.
[0019] A disadvantage of this solution is that the deformation of the envelope, when carried out by heating, cannot be carried out by everyone since this technique involves the use of specific heating equipment.
[0020] In fact, heating means, such as heat guns for example, must be used and may require special training so that only professionals can deform the envelope.
[0021] Furthermore, when the envelope is attached to the bottom of the box, this can present a major disadvantage for the integrity of the box, particularly if it is made of cardboard, as excessive heat can destroy the cardboard by burning it.
[0022] In addition, inserting the object to be transported into the envelope may prove difficult, if not impossible.
[0023] This is particularly true if the object to be transported is inserted into the envelope once the box is shaped, i.e. once the internal volume is defined, the peripheral edge of the box forming a major obstacle to the insertion of the object into the envelope.
[0024] To overcome this, it may be necessary, first, to insert the object into the envelope, then to form the box and finally to deform the envelope.
[0025] This represents a significant handling time which can be detrimental for professionals and also be impossible to achieve for individuals, particularly for deforming the envelope or shaping the box.
[0026] According to a second type, the envelope can also be secured to a tray intended to be housed in the box. In this case, the object is introduced inside the envelope and then, in order to secure and hold the object, the envelope is deformed by folding the edges of the tray, so as to stretch the two walls of the envelope to trap the object. Once this is finished, the folded tray can be inserted into the box and then the movable cover can be closed on the box.
[0027] These restraint methods also have certain disadvantages.
[0028] Indeed, inserting the object into the envelope does not pose a problem, however the deformation of the tray, in particular the folding of its edges, represents a complicated manipulation, even impossible to carry out when the object is bulky and the envelope to be deformed offers significant resistance to deformation. The deformation of the envelope can then become time-consuming and put off professionals who will then make a partial deformation or even offer a larger package generating a higher transport cost for the end consumer.
[0029] Furthermore, this requires the storage of both the box, the lid and the restraint means, which represents a detrimental total footprint and therefore an additional cost which is often passed on to the end customer.
[0030] We also know of the addition of crumpled paper, air pockets, cardboard inserts, or even foam balls to wedge the object to be transported inside the package, and to protect it during transport.
[0031] Another technique has been developed to meet the need to retain an object in a package, while offering a simplified mode of operation compared to known techniques.
[0032] This technique provides that the retaining means are integral with the cover and comprise an elastically deformable skin which comes into contact with the object contained in the package, to cover it and hold it against the bottom of the box. An example of such a package is presented in document FR3098506 A1, which discloses a package having the characteristics of the preamble of claim 1.
[0033] Although such a solution is satisfactory, it can still be improved.
[0034] Indeed, the flexible skin presents a tension applied to the object which could damage the said object, especially if it is particularly fragile.
[0035] Furthermore, some objects may have complex shapes for which the elastically deformable skin cannot provide good support. Thus, it is possible that only part of the object is held by the elastically deformable skin while another part remains free to move in the package, with the risk of hitting the box in the event of violent movement of the package.
[0036] Furthermore, when two objects of different sizes have to be transported in the same package, it is necessary to keep them both in the package, which is only possible by means of a spacer or wedge inserted between the two objects. This therefore requires adding weight to the package and, above all, storing any means that can form a spacer. In addition, when the package arrives at the recipient's home, the objects are removed and the package can be reused, while the spacer is no longer useful and is then thrown away. This then has an environmental impact, especially if the spacer is not thrown into a recycling circuit or its recycling is not possible.
[0037] The invention aims in particular to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art.
[0038] More specifically, the invention aims to propose a solution allowing the wedging of at least one object by automatically adapting to the characteristics of each object, in particular in terms of mechanical resistance in relation to its geometry, without damaging said object.
[0039] The invention also aims to provide such a solution which is simple to implement for a sender of the parcel.
[0040] The invention further aims to provide such a solution which has a small footprint when the package is stored between two uses.
[0041] These objectives, as well as others which will appear subsequently, are achieved thanks to the invention which relates to a package comprising a box having a base and means for retaining at least one object on the base, the retaining means comprising: a tray, and return means tending to exert a force of movement of the tray towards the bottom to maintain said object(s) between the bottom and the tray, characterized in that the tray comprises: a frame to which the return means are connected, and a central part connected to the frame by means of at least one flexible connection, and in that the central part comprises a plurality of plates, each plate being connected to the frame by the flexible connection on the one hand and to at least one other plate by an articulation on the other hand.
[0042] Such a tray can thus be deformed to best fit the shape of each object to be held on the bottom of the package.
[0043] In fact, the use of a plurality of plates connected to each other by joints, and connected to the frame by a flexible connection, makes it possible to deform the central part of the tray, so as to be in contact with each object to be held on the bottom of the package.
[0044] According to an advantageous aspect, each flexible connection is in the form of at least one elastically deformable gutter.
[0045] The use of an elastically deformable gutter allows the position of the central part to be varied in relation to the frame in order to deform the central part, which results in it fitting as closely as possible to the contour of each object to be retained on the bottom of the package.
[0046] In addition, the shape of a gutter allows the creation of an initial deformation allowing the flexible connection to unroll in order to ensure the mobility of each plate in relation to the frame.
[0047] According to another advantageous aspect, at least one of the flexible connections comprises a plurality of gutters abutting each other to form an alternation of hollows and crests.
[0048] The alternation of hollows and crests formed by the plurality of gutters makes it possible to create a flexible, easily deformable, accordion-type connection.
[0049] Thus, each of the gutters can deform independently of the others in an elastic manner so as to adapt the positioning of the plate connected to the tray by its intermediary, and ensure good retention of each object on the bottom of the package.
[0050] According to another advantageous aspect, each joint is in the form of at least one elastically deformable gutter.
[0051] The use of an elastically deformable gutter makes it possible to vary the position of the central part in relation to the frame in order to deform the central part to best fit the contour of each object to be retained on the bottom of the package.
[0052] In addition, the shape of a gutter allows the creation of an initial deformation allowing the flexible connection to unroll in order to ensure the mobility of each plate in relation to the frame.
[0053] According to another advantageous aspect, at least one of the joints comprises a plurality of gutters abutting each other to form an alternation of hollows and crests.
[0054] The alternation of hollows and crests formed by the plurality of gutters makes it possible to create a flexible, easily deformable, accordion-type connection.
[0055] Thus, each of the gutters can deform independently of the others in an elastic manner, so as to adapt the positioning of the plate connected to the tray by its intermediary, and ensure good retention of each object on the bottom of the package.
[0056] According to another advantageous aspect, the frame has a rectangular shape and the central part of the tray comprises: a central strip including two rectangular plates connected by a central joint, and extending between two opposite edges of the frame, and on either side of the central strip, four triangular plates connected two by two.
[0057] Such an architecture of the central part of the tray thus ensures a vault-shaped deformation of the tray to retain one or more objects on the bottom of the package.
[0058] Indeed, the central joint can be deformed to fold the two rectangular plates towards each other, and the triangular plates can be oriented relative to each other so as to close to configure a dome shape, all this using substantially flat plates.
[0059] This way, each item is perfectly held at the bottom of the package.
[0060] According to another advantageous aspect, the tray is symmetrical according to a plane of symmetry passing through the central articulation.
[0061] This symmetry makes it possible to control the deformation of the tray and in particular to deform the tray into a dome when it is intended to fit the shape of an object to be retained on the bottom of the package.
[0062] In other words, the symmetry of the board allows the object to be centered in relation to the board and thus ensures that it is held securely.
[0063] According to another advantageous aspect, the central strip extends in a first plane and the triangular plates extend in a second plane offset from the first plane.
[0064] Thus, when the tray comes into contact with several objects to be retained on the bottom of the package, the offset between the first plane and the second plane ensures that the tray is in contact with the object.
[0065] Furthermore, if the object to be retained on the background has height differences, then these height differences can be compensated by the height difference between the foreground and the middle ground.
[0066] Finally, when the object to be held is flat, for example a coin, a magazine or an envelope, the difference in height between the central strip and the triangular plates ensures that the object will be correctly held since at least one of the parts of the plate will be in contact with the object.
[0067] According to another advantageous aspect, the tray is made of polypropylene.
[0068] The use of polypropylene allows for adequate support of each object on the bottom of the package, providing good rigidity without significantly increasing the weight of the package.
[0069] In other words, the use of polypropylene allows for good retention of objects on the bottom of the package without making the package heavier, which would affect its ease of handling.
[0070] According to another advantageous aspect, the box comprises a peripheral rim extending from the bottom, the package also comprising a lid rotatably mounted on the peripheral rim by a joining edge, the lid being able to adopt a position for closing the box, the package further comprising a leg rotatably mounted on the lid, at a distal end opposite the joining edge, the leg having a free end intended to come into the vicinity of the bottom in the position for closing the lid, the plate being movable along the leg, and the return means being positioned between the free end of the leg and the plate.
[0071] The presence of the jamb allows the tray to be positioned as close as possible to the bottom when the lid is in its closed position on the box.
[0072] Thus, particularly when the frame is located near the bottom, the central part can deform while tending to recover its initial position to press each object against the bottom of the package.
[0073] Furthermore, the positioning of the return means between the free end of the jamb and the tray allows the tray to be drawn towards the bottom of the package, which ensures that the objects are held against the bottom of the package by the deformation of the central part of the tray.
[0074] Thus, thanks to this architecture, the objects are kept pressed against the bottom of the package, automatically.
[0075] Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear more clearly on reading the following description of a preferred embodiment of the invention, given by way of illustrative and non-limiting example, and the appended drawings among which: [ Fig. 1 ] there figure 1 is a schematic view of a package according to the invention, the package comprising means for retaining an object on its bottom; [ Fig. 2 ] there figure 2 is a perspective view from below of a tray of the package retaining means according to the invention; [ Fig. 3 ] there figure 3 is a bottom view of the tray of the package retaining means according to the invention; [ Fig. 4 ] there figure 4 is a cross-sectional detail view along section plane IV-IV of the figure 3 , this view comprising a first detail medallion on an enlarged scale illustrating a flexible connection, and a second detail medallion on an enlarged scale illustrating an articulation of the means of the tray of the means for retaining the package according to the invention; [ Fig. 5 ] there figure 5 is a detailed view in longitudinal section along the cutting plane VV of the figure 3 , illustrating an articulation of the tray of the means for retaining the package according to the invention.
[0076] In reference to the figure 1 , a package 1 according to the invention is shown.
[0077] Package 1 includes: a box 2; a cover 3 intended to close the box 2; and means for retaining an object inside the package.
[0078] The box 2 comprises a bottom 21 and a peripheral rim 22 extending from the bottom.
[0079] The peripheral rim 22 and the bottom 21 together define a storage volume internal to the box 2.
[0080] The peripheral rim 22 comprises a plurality of panels 221 abutting each other so as to define a closed contour.
[0081] Each panel 221 is pivotally mounted on the bottom 21 of the box 2.
[0082] Each panel 221 can thus adopt a position of use in which it extends substantially perpendicular to the bottom 21, and a storage position in which it extends substantially parallel to the bottom 21.
[0083] As illustrated by the figure 1 , the cover 3 is rotatably mounted on one of the panels 221 of the peripheral rim 22.
[0084] More precisely, the cover 3 is connected to one of the panels 221 by a joining edge 31 by which it is pivotally hinged to said panel 221.
[0085] Opposite the joining edge 31, the cover 3 has a distal end 32.
[0086] The cover is pivotable relative to the panel 221 between a first position in which it is substantially perpendicular to the panel 221 on which it is mounted, and a second position in which it is substantially parallel to said panel 221.
[0087] In its first position, the cover 3 obstructs access to the internal storage volume of the box 2. In other words, in its first position, the cover 3 closes the package 1.
[0088] Conversely, in its second position, the cover 3 leaves free access to the internal storage volume of the box 2. In other words, in its second position, the cover 3 opens the package 1.
[0089] According to the embodiment illustrated in the figures, the cover 3 is part of a closure assembly integrating the panel 221 on which it is mounted.
[0090] Thus, in the first position of the cover 3, the panel 221 is in its use position, and in the second position of the cover 3, the panel 221 is in its storage position.
[0091] Means of restraint include: a tray 4, and return means 5 tending to exert a force of displacement of the tray 4 in the direction of the bottom 21 of the box 2 as will be explained below.
[0092] As shown on the figure 1 , the package 1 has at least one leg 6 rotatably mounted on the cover 3 at its distal end 32.
[0093] The jamb 6 has a free end 61 intended to come into the vicinity of the bottom 21 in the closed position of the cover 3, that is to say in the second position of the cover 3.
[0094] The return means 5 take, for example, the form of an elastic cord and are positioned between the free end of the jamb 6 and the plate 4.
[0095] The plate 4 is thus movable in rotation relative to the jamb 6. The plate 4 is, in addition, guided in translation along the jamb 6 by ad-hoc means.
[0096] As illustrated by the figure 1 , the package 1 comprises two legs 6 positioned at the distal end 32 of the cover and rotatably mounted on the cover 3.
[0097] The two jambs 6 are positioned so as to be located on either side of the plate 4.
[0098] To further guide the tray in its translational movement relative to the jamb 6, the package 1 comprises means for guiding the movement of the tray 4 on the panel 221 on which the cover 3 is rotatably mounted.
[0099] These means for guiding the movement of the plate 4 comprise at least one slide 7 in which the panel 4, or at least a part of the panel 4, takes place, making it possible to guide the panel 4 in translation along the panel 221 secured to the joining edge 31 of the cover 3.
[0100] The panel 4 is thus movable in translation in a direction of movement perpendicular to the bottom 21 of the box 2 and can move away from the bottom 21 and be brought back towards the bottom 21 using the return means 5.
[0101] In reference to the figures 2 , 3 , 4 And 5 , plateau 4 is now described.
[0102] Tray 4 includes: a frame 41 to which return means 5 are connected, and a central part 42 connected to the frame 41 by means of at least one flexible connection 43.
[0103] As illustrated by the figure 2 , the frame 41 has a substantially rectangular shape. At each of its corners, the frame 41 has at least one hole 410 for fixing the return means 5.
[0104] The central portion 42 comprises a plurality of plates 44.
[0105] Each plate 44 is connected to the frame 41 by the flexible connection 43 on the one hand, and to at least one other plate 44 by an articulation 45 on the other hand.
[0106] The central part 42 of the tray 4 can thus deform to adapt to each object to be retained in the package 1 as explained below.
[0107] In reference to the figures 2 And 3 , the central part 42 of the plate 4 comprises: a central strip including two rectangular plates 441 connected by a central joint 451, and on either side of the central strip, four triangular plates 442 connected two by two.
[0108] The use of rectangular plates 441 and triangular plates 442 makes it possible to deform the plate 4 into a dome which tends to refocus each object to be retained towards the center of the plate 4.
[0109] The 442 triangular plates are more specifically shaped like a right triangle.
[0110] The triangular plates 442 are arranged two by two so as to reconstitute a rectangle together.
[0111] Thus, on each side of the central strip, the triangular plates 442 are positioned so as to form a rectangle extending along the entire length of the central strip.
[0112] In other words, the triangular plates 442 are grouped in groups of four on either side of the central strip and are arranged so that two triangular plates 442 are joined to each other by their hypotenuse, via a joint 45. Furthermore, in this architecture, two triangular plates 442 are joined to each other, via a joint 45, at their side of shorter length.
[0113] As illustrated by the figures 2 And 3 , the flexible connection 43 is discontinuous on the periphery of the central part 42.
[0114] More particularly, the flexible connection 43 has a plurality of recesses 431 at each junction with an articulation 45.
[0115] Likewise, each joint 45, when it meets a second joint 45, has a light 452.
[0116] The lights 452 and the recesses 431 make it possible on the one hand to facilitate the manufacture of the plate 4 but also to facilitate the deformation of the central part 42 as explained below without risk of tearing due to a concentration of stresses of the flexible connection 43 or the articulations 45.
[0117] In reference to the figure 3 , the plate 4 is symmetrical according to a plane of symmetry P passing through the central articulation 451.
[0118] Thus, as illustrated by the figure 3 , on either side of the plane of symmetry P, the central part 42 of the plate 4 has a rectangular plate 441 and, on either side of the rectangular plate 441, two triangular plates 442.
[0119] With reference to the detail view of the figure 4 , the central strip formed by the two rectangular plates 441 extends in a first plane P1 and the triangular plates 442 extend in a second plane P2 offset relative to the first plane P1.
[0120] According to the embodiment illustrated by the figure 4 , the rectangular plates 441 of the central strip are intended to be closer to the bottom 21 of the package 1 than the triangular plates 442.
[0121] This shift is visible when panel 4 is not subject to deformation, that is to say when it does not cooperate with at least one object to be retained in package 1.
[0122] As an illustrative and non-limiting example, the tray 4 is made of polypropylene.
[0123] Advantageously, tray 4 is transparent.
[0124] In reference to the figure 4 , each flexible connection 43 is in the form of at least one elastically deformable gutter.
[0125] As illustrated by the lower detail medallion of the figure 4 , at least one of the flexible connections 43 comprises a plurality of gutters abutting each other forming an alternation of hollows 46 and crests 47.
[0126] More particularly, the flexible connection 43 successively presents from the frame 41 to the central plate 42, a first hollow 46, a first crest 47, a second hollow 46, a second crest 47, and finally, a third hollow 47.
[0127] In other words, the flexible connection 43 comprises two steps.
[0128] This alternation of hollows 46 and ridges 47 makes it possible to deform each gutter independently of each other in order to be able to position the plates 44 independently of each other relative to the frame 41.
[0129] Like the flexible connection 43, each articulation 45 is in the form of at least one elastically deformable gutter.
[0130] In reference to the figure 5 , the articulation 45 located between two triangular plates 442 and which extends along the plane of symmetry P is a simple articulation.
[0131] In other words, the simple joint is formed from a single groove.
[0132] With reference to the upper detail medallion illustrated by the figure 4 , at least one of the joints 45 comprises a plurality of gutters abutting each other forming an alternation of hollows 46 and crests 47.
[0133] With reference to the upper detail medallion of the figure 4 , the illustrated joint 45 has, from the frame 41 to the central part 42, a first hollow 46, a crest 47, and finally a second hollow 46.
[0134] In other words, joint 45 comprises a single step.
[0135] According to the embodiment illustrated on the figure 3 , each rectangular plate 441 carries attachment means 48.
[0136] These attachment means 48 are intended to cooperate with each object to be retained in the package 1 to prevent them from sliding relative to the tray 4.
[0137] These attachment means 48 are for example made up of a strip of material fixed to the rectangular plates 441.
[0138] The gripping characteristic of the gripping means 48 can be obtained either by using a material having a roughness providing the desired grip, or by using an anti-friction material having anti-friction characteristics retaining the objects, or by using a material having a repositionable layer of glue.
[0139] In use, the package 1 according to the invention makes it possible to retain one or more objects against the bottom 21 of the box 2 by means of the plate 4 of the retaining means.
[0140] To transport an object safely, a user positions the object to be transported on the bottom 21 of the box 2 then positions the cover 3 in its closed position (i.e. its first position)
[0141] The plate 4, which is connected to the jamb 6, then rises towards the cover 3, being moved away from the bottom 21 of the box 2 by the presence of the object to be retained in the box 2.
[0142] The return means 5 then tend to exert a force of displacement of the tray 4 in the direction of the bottom 21 to maintain each object between the bottom 21 of the box 2 and the tray 4.
[0143] By this effort, of moving the tray 4 towards the bottom 21, the central part 42 of the tray 4 deforms to best fit the shape of each object to be retained in the box 2.
[0144] This deformation of the central part 42 is notably obtained using the articulations 45 and the or each flexible connection 43.
[0145] Thus, the plates 44 are oriented according to the shape of the object(s) to be retained independently of each other, which allows the plate 4 and in particular its central part 42 to fit and press against the bottom 21 of the box 2 the object(s) to be retained.
[0146] Package 1 which has just been described thus provides effective retention of each object inside package 1 during their transport, which ensures their integrity.
[0147] Furthermore, the use of a material such as polypropylene makes it possible to produce a tray 4 ensuring that the objects are held against the bottom 21 of the box 2 in a simple manner and without considerably weighing down the package 1.
