Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a piece of furniture comprising a cubic or cuboid base body, wherein at least one side of the base body has an open side surface and a device for limiting the movement of a flap for closing the open side surface, which is pivotably arranged on one side of the base body.
[0002] Besides conventional chairs and tables, which are often placed around the room, there are also wall-mounted furniture options for situations where space is limited and only unfolded when needed. A well-known example is a wall bed, where the bed section is folded into a horizontal position before use. Such a wall bed often features storage compartments adjacent to the bed section for clothing and other items.
[0003] Alternatively, there are also wall-mounted seats or folding chairs, which are usually brought into a horizontal sitting position by hinges or guide rails or a combination of both.
[0004] Such seating furniture typically serves only for sitting and has no secondary function. It is also not designed for expansion with other functional modules, i.e., it is not "dockable." If, moreover, it is designed as an expandable, modular system, it is connected using standard furniture connectors, namely screws, profile strips, magnets, or clips, which hold individual modules together but, disadvantageously, do not provide a secure, slip-resistant connection in all directions.
[0005] German patent DE 20 2013 009 663 U1 describes a wall cabinet with a fold-out tabletop that is guided in grooves of the cabinet housing by means of guide pins provided at its rear edge, allowing it to be slidably and pivotally mounted. When closed, the tabletop forms a front panel. In the unfolded position, the tabletop is supported by a strut that folds out from the front of the wall cabinet.
[0006] DE 20 2007 019 066 U1 discloses a base cabinet with a pull-out drawer, having a vertical door, and an integrated steam ironing station. The ironing board is hingedly mounted on the inside of the vertical door and can be folded out for use.
[0007] DE 20 2005 018 016 U1 relates to a table, in particular a bedside table for a nursing or hospital bed, wherein the table is provided with an additional second tabletop and wherein the second tabletop can be attached to and removed from a holding device of the first tabletop in the form of a rod. For this purpose, the second tabletop has a U-profile corresponding to the rod. In addition, the second tabletop has an under-grip element for fixing the second tabletop in relation to the first tabletop.
[0008] GB 290 953 A describes a table with a compartment, for example for holding a typewriter, and a tabletop that is suitable in one position to close the compartment and in a lowered position to release it. The tabletop is preferably hinged so that it swings forward and downward. It is hinged to the front of the table, which is also hinged to the compartment, so that when it folds forward, it carries the tabletop with it.
[0009] JP H05 34936 U discloses a connection structure with a U-shaped cross-section for connecting cabinet elements, wherein the U-shaped cross-section has chamfered sections at its two free ends that engage in grooves of the cabinet elements.
[0010] US Patent 1,463,289 A concerns a desk that can be converted into a typewriter table. To do this, the front of the desk can be opened via two doors, allowing a tabletop located inside the desk to be pulled out. This tabletop consists of two parts connected by a hinge, with one front part hanging down at a right angle. When the tabletop is pulled out, this front part is moved into a horizontal position and held in this position by supports that can also be pulled out from the desk.
[0011] The purpose of the invention is to provide a modular piece of furniture that can be used as a series of furniture and also has several functions simultaneously.
[0012] This problem is solved by a piece of furniture with the features of claim 1.
[0013] According to the invention, a modular piece of furniture, preferably for the formation of row furniture, is provided which has a cuboid-shaped base body, wherein at least one side of the base body has an open side surface.
[0014] However, two opposite side surfaces can also be designed to be open, resulting in a square, hollow "frame".
[0015] The furniture according to the invention has a device for limiting the movement of a flap that serves to close the open side surface, which is pivotably arranged on one side of the base body.
[0016] For the pivotable arrangement of the flap on the base body, a convexly curved surface (profiling) is arranged along the preferably lower, space-facing edge of the inside of the base body, which preferably extends over the entire length of the edge, and a corresponding concavely curved surface (profiling) is provided on the edge of the flap facing the base body, which also preferably extends over the entire length of the edge.
[0017] Unless the entire length of the respective edge is provided with appropriate surfaces (profiling), preferably at least the concave surface of the edge of the flap should be supported along its length.
[0018] The furniture is typically arranged or attached to a wall or a freestanding "frame" in such a way that the side with the flap faces into the room. The term "frame" can have various meanings in this context; the only necessary commonality is the provision of a means for the vertical attachment of at least one piece of furniture according to the invention.
[0019] For attaching the furniture to a wall, the expert is familiar with state-of-the-art methods, such as metal brackets, support strips and the like.
[0020] In the basic state of the furniture, i.e., in the closed state of the flap, a freely removable panel is arranged inside the base body, which can be removed when the furniture is open, i.e., when the flap is open.
[0021] After the plate is removed, it is partially inserted into the open side surface of the base body, accessible by opening the flap, in such a way that it preferably lies flat against an inner side surface (top) of the base body, extends parallel to the base body and rests on and projects beyond the free edge of the opened flap, which is parallel to the open side surface.
[0022] Due to the device for limiting the movement of the flap, it has a defined opening angle at maximum opening, which is necessary to achieve exact positioning of the plate.
[0023] This provides the user with a horizontally extending surface that can be used in various ways. It can be used as a tabletop or as a seat. The furniture itself is essentially the same; only its placement at the appropriate height on the wall is relevant and must be determined by the user.
[0024] Naturally, the furniture according to the invention can be manufactured in different sizes to meet the various requirements as a seat or as a table.
[0025] The tabletop of the furniture is preferably designed to extend lengthwise, and is preferably a rectangular tabletop, as this is the most universally applicable and also provides optimal space for a user.
[0026] However, modified forms of a rectangular plate can also be used according to the invention; for example, the free end protruding from the base body can have a circular segment-shaped design extending away from the base body.
[0027] Oval or round plates are also suitable, but, as with the aforementioned embodiments, it is preferred that the center of gravity of the plate is located in the area of the part of the plate projecting over the flap, in order to prevent the plate from tipping into the base body.
[0028] Otherwise, depending on the intended use, the surface may be provided with, for example, padding, a water-repellent coating, or a purely decorative coating.
[0029] The material of the furniture according to the invention is limited only by its static suitability. Wood or wood-based materials, such as multiplex panels, are preferred, with multiplex panels being particularly preferred.
[0030] The sides of the base body are connected to each other in the usual way, and a variety of traditional and modern methods are available to the expert for this purpose.
[0031] Various options can be provided for opening the flap, such as a handle hole, slot, screw-on handle or other common opening methods.
[0032] If the furniture according to the invention is to have a back panel, this can be fixed to the furniture in different ways.
[0033] Preferably, the plate has a corresponding recess, preferably in the form of a groove, into which the protrusion engages, thus increasing the stability of the plate arrangement.
[0034] Alternatively, the raised section and the recess can be arranged in reverse on the plate and the inside.
[0035] In the simplest case, the holding device can be located in the middle on the inside of the flap, but this restricts the use of the interior space for storage purposes or the like.
[0036] Preferably, the holding device is formed from two preferably planar elements which are fixed parallel to each other on the flap and at right angles to it and project into the base body.
[0037] The two planar elements can be arranged on the inside of the flap, preferably spaced as far apart as possible, or preferably fixed to the opposite side or outer edges of the flap, so that they move close to the corresponding inner surfaces of the base body when the flap is closed.
[0038] The plate is preferably arranged between the flat elements along the inside of the flap for storage.
[0039] In this variant of the holding device, the plate rests on both flat elements, which together act as a holding element. Preferably, the flat elements have a triangular or rectangular or derived basic shape, with a rectangular or derived basic shape being preferred because, as described below, this offers advantages.
[0040] In both variants, one corner point, namely the highest corner point of the planar elements when the flap is open, forms a support point for the plate.
[0041] Particularly preferably, the planar elements are additionally connected to each other by at least one connecting element, which is preferably designed parallel to the flap and is located in the interior of the base body, so that a receiving volume is formed which is preferably accessible from the direction of the free edge of the flap.
[0042] The flat elements and optionally the connecting element can be made of metal, wood or wood-based materials, and can have any number of openings in the form of a grid or be designed to cover the entire surface.
[0043] The connecting element, which can also form a shelf or similar feature, is combined with the flat elements to create a basket, compartment, or similar structure. A shelf or other type of divider for the storage volume can be provided separately or integrated into the connecting element.
[0044] When rectangular planar elements are used, a second essentially cuboid basic shape of the furniture results, and thus also a corresponding storage volume inside the basic body.
[0045] When using triangular planar elements, these are preferably used in such a way that the receiving volume tapers to a point away from the free edge of the flap.
[0046] The device provided according to the invention for limiting the movement of the flap can, in a first variant, be a rope, preferably a wire rope or a nylon cord, on each of the vertical, narrow sides of the flap, wherein these are fixed at their ends to the flap and the base body.
[0047] A particularly preferred embodiment of the invention is a device for limiting the movement of the flap, preferably formed from at least two stop elements arranged on two opposing (vertical) inner surfaces of the base body, against which the holding device rests in the open position. Preferably, the holding device is formed from the two planar elements as described above.
[0048] It is also preferred that the device for limiting the movement of a flap has at least one, preferably two, guide pins, which are arranged on both sides of the holding device, preferably of the two planar elements, and which are guided in grooves that are provided in the inner sides of the base body facing the holding device, wherein the length of the grooves determines the limit of the movement of the flap.
[0049] Alternatively, the grooves can be designed to be open in the direction of the open side of the base body, with a height offset preferably formed in front of the opening of the groove to limit the movement of the flap and to serve as a stop for the guide pins.
[0050] The height offset would guide the flap upwards and therefore prevents the flap from slipping downwards once the concave surface (profiling) of the flap's edge detaches from its connection with the convex surface (profiling) on the base body.
[0051] It is particularly preferred if the furniture according to the invention, or the basic body of the furniture, is connected with the basic bodies of other furniture, so that a series of furniture can be assembled which, in addition to the furniture described above, can also have other functionalities. However, the furniture described above can also be usefully connected to create rows of seats or longer tables.
[0052] Depending on the functionalities, the furniture can be combined in two directions, and the furniture can also be of different dimensions and connected at different heights.
[0053] There are many ways to connect the furniture together, the simplest of which consists of screws that connect the base bodies together; however, this usually damages the piece of furniture, or, if through holes are used for the screws, the flexibility in combining the furniture according to the invention suffers.
[0054] As previously described, a groove is provided along the, preferably entire, length of the wall-facing edges of the inner sides, into which a row furniture connector can engage simultaneously in two adjacent pieces of furniture in such a way that the furniture in question is fixed together in a slip-proof manner.
[0055] The grooves allow for any placement of the row furniture connectors, as they preferably run parallel to the edges opposite the room-facing sides along the four entire inner lengths of the base body.
[0056] The modular furniture connector has a rectangular cross-section of a square tube, wherein one side is a partially open side and an engagement section projects into the open side from each side without closing the open side, and wherein the modular furniture connector is made of an elastic material and optionally has a tab on each side extending in the plane of the open side in the opposite direction to the engagement sections outwards and each having a through-opening, or wherein the modular furniture connector is made of a rigid material and consists of two, preferably identical, parts that interlock on the side opposite the open side in such a way that the two parts form a closed side when assembled.
[0057] The partially open side and the opposite closed side are preferably formed by the longer sides, relative to the rectangular profile.
[0058] A furniture connector according to a first embodiment consists of a spring-elastic metal and has a shape derived from a section of a square, preferably rectangular, hollow profile (square tube). Therefore, it has a substantially rectangular cross-section, with one side being partially open, so that an engagement section (engagement lug) projects perpendicularly into the open area of this side on both sides, without closing the open side.
[0059] Opposite the partially open side is a closed side, with the closed side having beveled edges on both sides, thus forming opposing side surfaces that are themselves beveled and transition into the engagement sections that project into the partially open side. These engagement sections simultaneously engage in the grooves of adjacent sides of two pieces of furniture, securing them together in a stable and slip-resistant manner.
[0060] Preferably, the spring-elastic row furniture connector is pre-tensioned by being slightly bent inwards at its two short legs when not installed.
[0061] To facilitate handling and, in particular, disassembly of the modular furniture connectors, it is preferred that tabs are provided on both sides of the connector. These tabs preferably extend outwards in the plane of the open side and in the opposite direction to the engagement sections, and, when assembled, project into the interior or into the hollow frame of the base body. This allows the furniture according to the invention to be arranged against a wall without wasting space. A tool can be applied to the tabs to spread the modular furniture connector open for assembly or disassembly.
[0062] Preferably, each tab has a through-hole into which a pointed tool, such as a pin or screwdriver, can be inserted to cause spreading.
[0063] A second embodiment of the row furniture connector according to the invention also has a shape derived from a section of a square, preferably rectangular, hollow profile (square tube).
[0064] Therefore, it has a substantially rectangular cross-section, with one side partially open, so that an engagement section (engagement lug) projects perpendicularly into the open area on both sides without closing the open side. These engagement sections, in turn, simultaneously engage in the grooves of adjacent sides of two pieces of furniture and fix them securely and stably together.
[0065] The partially open side and the opposite closed side are preferably formed by the longer sides, relative to the rectangular profile.
[0066] These furniture connectors are otherwise identical to those of the first embodiment, except that, unlike the first embodiment, the furniture connector of the second embodiment is made of a rigid (non-spring-like) material and has two, preferably identical, parts. The two parts interlock on the side opposite the open side in such a way that, when assembled, they form a closed surface.
[0067] Each of the two parts has a longitudinally extended section and a corresponding opening, the longitudinally extended section and the corresponding opening extending essentially parallel to the lateral bends or the engagement sections. Starting from each bend, a rectangular section is provided first, parallel to and extending over the entire length of the bend. This is followed by an open section with the corresponding opening, which represents only a portion of the preceding section. The longitudinally extended section is then followed by the section opposite to the partial length of the open section and also represents only a portion of the lateral bend. In other words, the rectangular section is followed first by the corresponding opening and then by the longitudinally extended section.
[0068] When assembling the row furniture connector, the longitudinally extended section of one part is inserted into the corresponding opening of the other part, and vice versa.
[0069] This can advantageously be done without tools and in particular without screws, resulting in a firm hold.
[0070] In this state, both longitudinally extended sections are fixed in relation to each other in such a way that the distance between the longitudinally extended sections cannot be changed perpendicular to them, and thus the two pieces of furniture are fixed together.
[0071] Preferably the ends of the longitudinally extended sections are rounded and / or preferably the edges of the longitudinally extended sections that border each other are formed obliquely towards the end, so that the longitudinally extended section tapers towards the end.
[0072] Advantageously, this allows two pieces of furniture to be joined, between which there is still a certain gap, to be pulled together by assembling both parts of the row furniture connector, so that they border each other without gaps.
[0073] For assembly, the two parts of the row furniture connector are positioned offset against each other on the two pieces of furniture, with the engagement sections fitting into the respective grooves. Then, both parts are pushed towards each other and completely into one another.
[0074] According to the invention, a piece of furniture is claimed that is also assembled from various individual pieces of furniture (multi-unit furniture).
[0075] The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawings. It shows Fig. 1 shows a piece of furniture according to a first embodiment in a sectional side view in the closed position, Fig. 2 shows a piece of furniture according to the invention in a sectional side view in the open position, Fig. 3 shows a row furniture connector in a perspective view, Fig. 4 shows a row furniture connector in a sectional side view. Fig. 3 Fig. 5 shows a row furniture connector according to a second embodiment in a first assembly state in a bottom view, Fig. 6 shows a row furniture connector according to a second embodiment in a bottom view. Fig. 5 in a second assembly state, and Fig. 7 in a side view of a row furniture connector according to Figs. 5 and 6 .
[0076] The in Figure 1 and 2 The furniture shown (100) is a modular piece of furniture that can be combined with similar furniture (100) to form rows of furniture (1000). Fig. 4) can be combined and connected to each other. The modular furniture 100 also includes various other furniture items with different functionalities, which are not shown here and which can be combined with the furniture 100 shown here in any way, so that row furniture 1000, shown in Figure 4 , will be obtained. For this purpose, the one in the Figures 3 and 4 The row furniture connectors shown are used in 200 units.
[0077] The furniture 100 according to the invention is in Figure 1 in the closed state and in Figure 2The piece of furniture 100 is shown in its open state. It has a cuboid base 10 in which a first side 11 and a second side 12, opposite each other, form open side surfaces 13, 14, creating a rectangular hollow "frame". The cuboid base 10 also has a flap 15 for closing one of the two open side surfaces 13. The flap 15 is pivotally mounted on one side 16 of the base 10. For this purpose, a convexly curved surface 18, or a correspondingly shaped profile, is formed along the edge 17 of the side 16 facing the open side surface 13, extending over the entire length of the side 16. Correspondingly, a corresponding concave curved surface 20 or a correspondingly shaped profile is provided on the edge 19 of the flap 15 facing the base body 10 or the convexly curved surface 18.The convexly curved surface 18 and the concavely curved surface 20 interlock to allow the flap 15 to pivot. When the flap 15 is closed, a freely removable, rectangular panel 22 is arranged in an interior space 21 of the base body 10, or in a storage volume formed by the interior space 21. A user can remove the panel 22 after opening the flap 15 and then use it as a seat or table. To do this, the user partially inserts the panel 22 into the open side surface 13 of the base body 10, which is accessible when the flap 15 is opened, and secures the panel 22 in place. The panel 22 is secured in the base body 10 such that, when the flap 15 is fully open, it rests on its free edge 23 and is simultaneously supported against an inner surface 24 (the top of the furniture 100). The inner side 24, on which the plate 22 is supported, is opposite the side 16, on which the flap 15 is pivotably arranged. The free edge 23 of the flap 15 is chamfered. This chamfer engages in a corresponding groove 25 on the underside 26 of the plate 22 facing the flap 15. Additionally, a strip 27 is arranged on the inner side 24, where the plate 22 rests, and this strip also engages in a groove 28 formed in the upper side 29 of the plate 22. Both the groove 28 and the strip 27 run parallel to the free edge 23 of the flap 15 and to the groove 25 on the underside 26 of the plate 22. Furthermore, flat elements 30, 31 are arranged on both sides of the flap 15 such that they extend parallel to each other towards the interior 21 of the base body 10 and are oriented perpendicular to the flap 15.The two planar elements 30, 31 have a substantially rectangular base shape and are connected to each other by two connecting elements 34, 35, with one connecting element 34 being arranged in the region of the edges 32, 33 of the planar elements 30, 31 facing away from the flap 15. A second connecting element 35 adjoins the first connecting element 34 at a right angle and also connects the planar elements 30, 31 in the region facing away from the free edge 23. This, in conjunction with the flap 22, results in a second cuboid body 36 in which a receiving volume 37 is formed, which is preferably accessible from the direction of the free edge 23 of the flap 15 and is closed on the opposite side by the second connecting element 35 as a base.In the open state of the flap 15, a flattened corner point 38, 38a of the planar elements 30, 31 is located in the same horizontal plane as the free edge 23 of the flap 15, so that in the arrangement of the plate 22 described above, it additionally rests on these corner points 38, 38a, the corner points 38, 38a together with the planar elements 30, 31 forming a holding device 39, so that the plate 22 cannot accidentally slip into the interior 21 of the base body 10.
[0078] The formed receiving volume 37 serves, firstly, to hold the plate 22 in its unused state and, secondly, any other items not shown. The receiving volume 37 may also have additional subdivisions. Furthermore, the furniture 100 has a device for limiting the movement 40 of the flap 15 in order to hold it in a defined position for supporting the plate 22. The device for limiting the movement 40 consists of two guide pins 41, 41a and 42, 42a, each arranged on the two planar elements 30, 31. These guide pins 41, 41a and 42, 42a are each guided in grooves 43, 43a and 44, 44a, which are slightly curved and inserted into the inner surfaces 45, 46 of the base body 10, wherein the grooves 43, 43a and 44, 44a are open to the edge 47, 47a of the respective inner surface 45, 46, so that the flap 15 with the flat elements 30, 31 can be easily disassembled. To ensure that the flap 15 is held securely in the base body 10, the grooves 43, 43a and 44, 44a each have a height offset 48 towards the free edge 23 of the flap 15 or the top of the furniture 100, respectively, before their open ends. The height offset 48 forms the holding point 49, 49a, 49b, 49c of the guide pins 41, 41a and 42, 42a, and prevents the flap 15 from being unintentionally released upwards from the base body 10.
[0079] To connect the 100 pieces of furniture together, row furniture connectors 200 and 300 are required, according to the specifications. Figures 3 and 4 according to a first embodiment and in accordance with the Figures 5, 6 and 7a second embodiment provides for the modular furniture connectors 200, 300. These connectors are made of a spring-elastic material (first embodiment) or a rigid material (second embodiment) and have a substantially rectangular cross-section 50, derived from a square tube, with an open side 51 into which an engagement section (engagement nose) 52 projects on both sides, without completely closing the open side 51. The modular furniture connector 200, 300 extends longitudinally, and the length of this longitudinal extension allows influence to be exerted on the strength of the fixation of two pieces of furniture 100 according to the invention. The engagement sections 52 grip ( Figure 4 ) simultaneously in grooves 53, 54 of adjacent sides 55, 56 and, if necessary, in the grooves 53a, 54a located in the same plane at right angles to them ( Figure 1) the two remaining sides of the base body of two furniture pieces 100 or base body 10 and connect both furniture pieces 100 to form a row of furniture 1000. The grooves 53, 54 ( Figure 1 ) extend over the entire length of the vertical inner sides 45, 46 and run parallel to their wall-facing edges 57, 58 of the sides 55, 56 and in the grooves 53a, 54a at right angles to them ( Figure 1 ) the two remaining sides of the base body 10, so that the furniture 100 can be connected to each other in any height position and side orientation.
[0080] To facilitate handling and, in particular, disassembly of the modular furniture connectors 200 according to the first embodiment, these connectors have tabs 59, 60 that extend in the plane of the open side 51 and in the opposite direction to the engagement sections 52. The tabs 59, 60 each have a through-opening 61, 62 into which a tool can be inserted to spread open and assemble or disassemble the modular furniture connector 200.
[0081] The furniture connectors 300 according to the second embodiment, unlike the first embodiment of the furniture connector 200, consist of a rigid (non-spring-elastic) material and two, preferably identical, parts 70, 71. The two parts 70, 71 interlock on the side 72 opposite the open side 51 in such a way that, in the assembled state, the two parts 70, 71 form a closed side 72, as shown in Figure 7 shown.
[0082] The two parts 70, 71 each have a longitudinally extended section 73 and a corresponding opening 74, wherein the longitudinally extended section 73 and the corresponding opening 74 extend essentially parallel to the engagement sections 52 and are spaced apart from them by a rectangular section 75.
[0083] During the assembly of the row furniture connector 300 according to the second embodiment, the longitudinally extended section 73 of one part 70, 71 is inserted into the corresponding opening 74 of the other part 70, 71 and vice versa, as shown in Figure 6 shown. Reference symbol list
