AI Technical Summary
Existing vehicle pedal assemblies with fixing tabs at the bottom can catch on the driver's shoes, lifting and tearing off the pad cover, leading to discomfort and potential damage.
A pedal assembly design featuring a flexible skate with latches that secure fixing tabs in a folded position, using retaining means to prevent tabs from catching on shoes, with latches on the pad or core to maintain tab positioning.
Prevents tab interference with shoes, ensuring secure attachment and comfortable operation by locking fixing tabs in place, thus preventing pad cover lifting.

Abstract
Description
[0001] The present invention claims priority from French application No. 1914909 filed on 19.12.2019.
[0002] The present invention relates to a pedal for a vehicle pedal assembly which includes a cap, as described in document FR 2 956 910 A1.
[0003] It relates more particularly to a pedal which has a core and a pad with a central part of the pad which is positioned between the core and the cap, the cap having fixing tabs allowing it to be secured to the pad, at least one of said fixing tabs being positioned folded under the cap by clamping a part of the pad and the core.
[0004] Such an assembly is commonly found, particularly in the case of an aluminum cap which covers a rubber pad to offer a more comfortable contact surface on the pedal than with contact only on a rubber pad.
[0005] But for such an assembly with fixing tabs, the tabs which are positioned at the bottom of the pedal can catch on the driver's shoes if he puts his foot under the pedal, lifting these lower tabs and tearing off the pad cover.
[0006] The device according to the invention makes it possible to remedy this drawback.
[0007] It comprises, according to a first characteristic, a pedal for a vehicle's pedal assembly, which includes a core, a pad and a cap, a central part of the pad being positioned between the core and the cap, the cap having fixing tabs allowing it to be secured to the pad, at least one of said fixing tabs being positioned folded down under the cap by clamping a part of the pad and the core, such that said at least one of the fixing tabs is held locked in the folded-down position by means of retaining attached to the core or the pad.
[0008] According to a first feature of the invention, the skate is formed from a flexible material adapted to be fitted around the core.
[0009] According to a second feature of the invention, the first fixing tab is positioned on the lower edge of the pedal and the cap generally includes at least one second fixing tab which is positioned on the upper edge or along one of the two lateral edges of the pedal.
[0010] According to a third feature of the invention, the retaining means comprise at least one latch which extends from the pad (according to a first embodiment) or the core (according to a second embodiment) above a part of at least one first leg of the fixing legs.
[0011] According to the first embodiment of the invention, the latch extends from the skate and has a beveled shape adapted to allow the passage of said at least one of the first fixing tabs by laterally pushing said latch back when said at least one of the first fixing tabs is folded against the skate, the latch preferably coming into contact with the skate.
[0012] The skate has a thinner portion intended to receive said at least one of the fixing tabs, the thinner portion having on each side a latch, said latches being adapted to lock the two lateral edges of said at least one of the fixing tabs once it has been folded into the thinner portion of the skate.
[0013] According to a second example, the retaining means include at least one latch extending from the core above an end part of said at least one of the fixing lugs, the latch preferentially being made of material with the core.
[0014] The latch has a shape adapted to hold said end portion between the skate and said latch.
[0015] The attached drawings illustrate the invention: [ Fig.1 [ ] represents a perspective view of a pedal that includes a pad according to a first embodiment of the invention. Fig.2 ] represents a detailed, perspective view of the pedal according to the first embodiment. Fig.3 ] represents a detailed, perspective view of the pedal according to a second embodiment.
[0016] With reference to figure 1 et 2 , is represented a pedal 1 for a pedal assembly of a vehicle which includes a core 2, a pad 3 and a cap 4.
[0017] A central part 31 of the skate 3 is positioned between the core 2 and the cap 4, with the skate 3 being formed in a flexible material allowing lateral parts 32 of the skate 3 to be fitted around the core 2.
[0018] The cap 4 has two first fixing tabs 41 which are positioned folded down under the bottom of the cap 4, clamping part of the pad 3 and the core 2, allowing the bottom of the cap 4 to be secured to the pad 3.
[0019] The cap 4 also includes second fixing tabs 42 which are positioned folded down under the lateral and upper edges of the cap 4, clamping part of the pad 3 and the core 2, allowing the rest of the cap 4 to be secured to the pad 3. The first fixing tabs 41 are held locked in the folded position by retaining means 5 attached to the pad 3.
[0020] The retaining means 5 include at least one latch 51 which extends from the pad 3 above a lateral part of one of the first two fixing tabs 41.
[0021] Each latch 51 extends from the skate 3 with a beveled shape 52 adapted to allow both the passage of a first fixing tab 41 in a folded position against the skate 3, by pushing the latch 51 laterally and allowing the latch 51 to return to the extended position once the first fixing tab 41 is positioned.
[0022] Generally, the skate 3 has a thinner part 31 adapted to receive one of the first fixing tabs 41, with the thinner part 31 having on each side a latch 51, the two latches 51 being adapted to lock the two lateral edges of the first fixing tab 41.
[0023] The positioning of one of the first fixing tabs 41 in the thinner part 31 of the skate 3 is done at the end of the assembly of the cap 4 on the skate 3, by simply folding down the first fixing tab 41 between the two latches 51.
[0024] With reference to the figure 3 , is represented a second embodiment, with a pedal 6 for a pedal assembly of a vehicle which has a core 7 and a pad 8, the cap 4 remaining identical to the first embodiment.
[0025] As with the first embodiment, a central part of the skate 8 is positioned between the core 7 and the cap 4, with the skate 8 being formed in a flexible material allowing lateral parts of the skate 8 to be fitted around the core 7.
[0026] The cap 4 has fixing tabs which allow it to be secured to the skate 8, with two first fixing tabs 41 which are positioned folded down under the bottom of the cap 4 by clamping part of the skate 8 and the core 7 and second fixing tabs which are positioned folded down under the lateral and upper edges of the cap 4 by clamping part of the skate 8 and the core 7.
[0027] The first fixing tabs 41 are held locked in the folded position by retaining means 9 attached to the core 7.
[0028] The retaining means 9 include at least one latch 91 which extends from the core 7 above an end part 43 of one of the first fixing tabs 41.
[0029] Each latch 91 extends from the core 7 above the end 43 of one of the first fixing tabs 41, forming a bearing surface that positions the end 43 of one of the first fixing tabs 41 in support between a part of the pad 8 and the latch 91.
[0030] The attachment of the cap 4 to the skate 8 is done differently than for the first embodiment, the first two fixing tabs 41 are partially folded down and their ends 43 are slid between the skate 8 and the latch 91, so that by folding the cap 4 against the skate 8, the first two fixing tabs 41 are correctly positioned and have their ends 43 locked.
[0031] As with the first embodiment, the second fixing tabs are then folded against the cap 4, locking the cap 4 onto the pad 8.
