Description

[0001] The invention relates to pedestrian impact against a front bumper assembly of a motor vehicle. The invention relates to the attachment of a grille to an absorber of a front bumper assembly of a motor vehicle. The invention provides a front bumper assembly of a motor vehicle. The invention also relates to a motor vehicle.

[0002] A motor vehicle has protective assemblies configured to absorb an impact occurring at the front of the motor vehicle. In the event of such a frontal impact, these protective assemblies dissipate the energy in order to protect elements of the vehicle located further back, as well as the users present in the passenger compartment.

[0003] These protective assemblies integrate the front bumper skin. The latter partially forms the body of the motor vehicle, and features various exterior screens whose assembly precision contributes to the perceived quality as well as to the aerodynamics. These exterior screens adjoin lighting devices, side wings and a front hood. These screens include one or more air intake grilles, which are often integrated in a central position.

[0004] Each air intake grille must meet different repairability criteria depending on the speed of the impacts. For example, for a low-speed impact, the assembly is designed to absorb the impact by elastic deformation, thus without requiring subsequent repair. During this impact, the bumper skin deforms elastically upon contact with the obstacle, then returns to its position without any permanent deformation remaining after the obstacle involved in the impact has moved away.

[0005] These assemblies commonly include a shock absorption system at the front of the motor vehicle structure, and a front bumper shock absorber located in front of the shock absorption system. The shock absorption system takes the form of a metal beam securely attached to a structure of the motor vehicle. These protective assemblies are located vertically between the upper bumper grille and a lower air intake grille of the motor vehicle.

[0006] Document FR3089176A1 describes a front end impact absorption device for a motor vehicle. The device comprises: a grid extending vertically in front of an upper cross member of the front end; a support extending horizontally from an upper edge of the grid to an area where said support is attached to the upper cross member. A support element is housed in the rear part of the grid. The support element rests on the upper cross member and limits the amplitude of the deformation of the lower portion of the grid. The support element is solid, made of plastic foam.

[0007] Document FR3111597A1 describes a front bumper assembly for a motor vehicle. The front bumper assembly comprises: a lower bumper grille. The lower bumper grille comprises, at a middle portion, a central opening, a detection radar fixed securely to the lower bumper grille at the central opening, a shock absorber. The shock absorber extends longitudinally between the two lateral edges. The middle zone of the shock absorber comprises a cap which projects from the rear face of the shock absorber. The lower grille extends under the shock absorber.

[0008] Document WO2019058039A1 describes a motor vehicle comprising: a front bumper crossmember; a front bumper shield, arranged in front of the crossmember; two headlights arranged laterally on either side of the vehicle and vertically at a distance from and above the crossmember; at least one attachment part for one of the headlights, connecting said headlight to the crossmember. The shield comprises, on an internal face, at least one support zone of said shield, and each attachment part comprises a holding zone cooperating with the support zone. The shield also comprises a shell with a central opening and an air intake grille arranged in said opening, the support zones of the shield being formed or fixed on said grille. Document CN 208 149 248 U discloses an assembly for a motor vehicle front bumper in accordance with the preamble of claim 1.

[0009] These vehicles optimize safety while meeting the requirements of mass production and assembly quality. However, there is a need to further improve assembly precision.

[0040] The invention will be well understood and other aspects and advantages will appear clearly on reading the following description, given with reference to the appended figures and listed below. There Figure 1 is a front view of a motor vehicle according to the invention. The Figure 2 is a spatial view of a front bumper assembly for a motor vehicle structure according to the invention. Figure 3 is an enlargement of a front view of a front bumper assembly for a motor vehicle structure according to the invention. Figure 4 is a detail view, in space, of a positioning tab cooperating with a positioning relief of an assembly for a front bumper of a motor vehicle structure according to the invention. Figure 5 is a section of a front bumper assembly for a motor vehicle structure according to the invention.

[0041] In the following description, the term "comprise" is synonymous with "include" and is not limiting in that it allows for the presence of other elements in the motor vehicle or front bumper assembly to which it relates. It is understood that the term "comprise" includes the terms "consist of". The terms "external" and "internal" will refer respectively to that which is oriented towards the exterior of the vehicle and towards the interior of the vehicle.

[0042] In this description, the term "longitudinal", the term "longitudinally", the term "transverse", and the term "transversely" are used according to the reference system of the vehicle, in the mounting configuration. The term "longitudinal" corresponds to the main direction of movement of the vehicle. The term "transverse" corresponds to a direction perpendicular to the main direction of movement of the vehicle. The term "front" refers to the main direction of movement of the vehicle. The term "rear" designates the opposite of the front of the vehicle.

[0043] The X axis represents the longitudinal direction, the Y axis represents the transverse direction, and the Z axis represents the vertical direction of the motor vehicle. These three axes define a direct trihedron whose orientation is preserved throughout the figures.

[0044] In this description, the ranges of values include the limits which delimit them.

[0045] In this description, the technical characteristics are defined in the mounting configuration of the front bumper assembly, unless explicitly stated otherwise.

[0046] Throughout the description, the different figures use the same reference signs to designate identical or similar entities.

[0047] There Figure 1 represents a motor vehicle 10 according to the invention. The motor vehicle 10 comprises energy storage means, such as an electric battery, and at least one motor (not shown) adapted to drive said motor vehicle 10.

[0048] The motor vehicle 10 comprises a structure 12, also called a body. The structure 12 forms a frame and supports various components of the motor vehicle 10, including the engine and openings. The structure 12 partially forms the body 14 of the vehicle at the level of the roof, the front wings, the pillars. The body 14 forms the external envelope of the motor vehicle 10.

[0049] The motor vehicle 10 further comprises a front bumper assembly 16, such as a front fascia assembly. The front bumper assembly 16, in particular each of its elements, is adapted to withstand impacts, at speeds up to 10 km / h, preferably up to 15 km / s, without there being any need to replace specific parts of the vehicle, and in particular all or part of its bumper skin elements 18. The front bumper assembly 16 is also adapted to limit the extent of injuries in the event of a pedestrian impact.

[0050] The bumper skin elements 18 extend to the hood 20 and to the side wings (not shown). The bumper skin elements 18 delimit air intake openings 22. These air intake openings 22 are equipped with at least one air intake grille 24, preferably several air intake grilles 24.

[0051] The air intake grilles 24 comprise a lower air intake grille 26, and optionally an upper air intake grille 28. These air intake grilles 24 form protections against projections. They contribute to capturing and guiding the air flows. The incoming air is used as an oxidizer when the motor vehicle 10 is available in its thermal version. The air passing through the upper air intake grille 28 provides a flow for passenger compartment air conditioning; whether the electric vehicle is electric, thermal or hybrid driven.

[0052] Each air inlet grille 24 has a mesh. Any type of mesh can be selected depending on the protection needs and the corresponding air inlet. Each air inlet grille 24 generally forms a perforated wall. It generally extends vertically and transversely. Each air inlet grille 24 is capable of at least partially blocking the corresponding air inlet opening 22.

[0053] The motor vehicle 10 comprises at least one heat exchanger 34, commonly called a radiator. The heat exchanger 34 is capable of cooling the engine or the passenger compartment in the case of air conditioning equipment. The heat exchanger 34 is also capable of heating the passenger compartment via a heat pump system.

[0054] The front bumper assembly 16 also comprises a shock absorber 30. The shock absorber comprises a transverse body. The shock absorber 30 is attached to the structure 12 of the motor vehicle 10. For example, it is attached to front ends of front side members, possibly via shock absorption boxes 32; also referred to as “crash boxes”. In the event of a collision with a fixed obstacle in the environment or another vehicle, the shock absorption boxes 32 of the front bumper assembly 16 deform, dissipating the energy of the impact. They are configured to deform at an impact of a threshold speed, for example at least 30 km / h. Thus, the shock absorber 30 is configured to transmit the energy of the impact to the shock absorption boxes 32 for speeds greater than or equal to said threshold speed.

[0055] The shock absorber 30 may form a first cross member, the front bumper assembly 16 may also comprise a second cross member (not shown). For example, these cross members are respectively a lower cross member and an upper cross member.

[0056] The motor vehicle is, for example, a private motor vehicle or a commercial motor vehicle.

[0057] There Figure 2 presents a front bumper assembly 16 of a motor vehicle. The motor vehicle may correspond to that presented in connection with the Figure 1 .

[0058] The front bumper assembly 16 comprises an air intake grille 24, for example a lower one. In the present illustration, the air intake grille has horizontal blades. However, any other mesh size can be adopted. The front bumper assembly 16 also comprises a shock absorber 30. The shock absorber is arranged behind the air intake grille 24. The air intake grille 24 is below the shock absorber 30. The air intake grille 24 is in front of and / or below the shock absorber 30.

[0059] The shock absorber 30 is essentially elongated. It forms a cross member. It comprises a transverse body 60. The transverse body 60 may be solid and made of foam. Alternatively, it is a hollow body. By deforming, in particular by compressing or arching, the transverse body 60 is able to absorb the energy of an impact, for example at at least 30 km / h.

[0060] For example, in the center, the shock absorber 30 has a lower surface above the upper edge of the air intake grille 24. Thus, in the event of a frontal collision, for example with a pedestrian, the air intake grille 24 is able to deform and move under the shock absorber 30. This aspect makes it possible to eliminate the hard points of the front bumper assembly 16.

[0061] The shock absorber 30 has a rear face and a front face. The front face is preferably a positioning face 36. The rear face faces the structure (not shown) of the motor vehicle, and is longitudinally opposite the positioning face 36. The positioning face 36 faces the bumper skin elements. The shock absorber 30 forms the positioning face 36. The latter has a complex surface in order to receive different equipment.

[0062] According to an alternative of the invention, the positioning face is on the lower face (not shown), or on the upper face of the shock absorber.

[0063] The air intake grille 24 comprises positioning means. The positioning means comprise at least one positioning tab 38, preferably at least two positioning tabs 38. The or each positioning tab 38 is against the positioning face 36. The positioning tabs 38 cooperate with the positioning face 36 in order to longitudinally position the air intake grille 24 relative to the shock absorber 30. The positioning tabs 38 are folded and / or segmented. They form positioning horns. They bear against the positioning face 36.

[0064] The air inlet grille 24 comprises a frame 40. The frame 40 delimits the air passage formed by the air inlet grille 24. The frame 40 surrounds the blades of the air inlet grille 24. At least one or each positioning tab 38 extends from the frame 40, for example from its upper edge. The positioning tabs 38 are advantageously upper tabs.

[0065] The air inlet grille 24 comprises a vertical plane 42. The vertical plane 42 is a geometric plane. It is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. The frame 40 is advantageously along this vertical plane 42. The frame 40 may have a substantially convex front surface. At least one or each positioning tab 38 extends in the vertical plane 42 from the frame 40. According to one option, the or at least one or each positioning tab 38 is thinner than the frame 40.

[0066] Thus, in the event of a predefined impact, for example against a pedestrian, the positioning tab breaks at its base; at the level of the frame 40. The freedom of movement of the air intake grille 24 is preserved in the event of an impact, which limits the risk of injury to the pedestrian. The severity of possible leg injuries is reduced. This aspect is further improved thanks to the arrangement of the frame 40 below the shock absorber 30.

[0067] There Figure 3 presents from the front a set for front bumper 16 of motor vehicle. The motor vehicle may correspond to that presented in relation to one of the figures 1 to 2 .

[0068] The front bumper assembly 16 comprises an air intake grille 24 and a shock absorber 30, for example underneath. The shock absorber 30 has a positioning face 36 and is formed of a transverse body 60 such as a horizontal beam.

[0069] The air intake grille 24 comprises two positioning tabs 38. Each positioning tab 38 has a positioning portion 44 (delimited by dotted lines), for example at its end. The end may be a free end or an upper end. The positioning portions 44 bear against the positioning face 36. This aspect makes it possible to ensure longitudinal positioning of the air intake grille 24 relative to the shock absorber 30.

[0070] Above the frame 40 of the air inlet grille 24, the positioning face 36 comprises at least one positioning relief 46, for example a positioning relief associated with each positioning portion 44. Each positioning relief 46 is formed in the positioning face 36; in this case in the front face.

[0071] Each pair formed by one of the positioning reliefs 46 and one of the positioning portions 44 forms a positioning interface. In each positioning interface, the positioning relief 46 and the positioning portion interpenetrate in order to position the positioning tab relative to the transverse body. Each positioning interface allows at least longitudinal positioning; and optionally vertical or transverse positioning. The combination of the two positioning reliefs 46 receiving the two positioning portions 44 allows positioning in all three directions. The positioning accuracy may depend on vertical mechanical clearance and transverse mechanical clearance.

[0072] In the present embodiment, at least one or each positioning relief 46 comprises a positioning groove 48. The positioning groove 48 has a depth measured in the longitudinal direction since the positioning face 36 is forward.

[0073] The positioning relief 46 is a first positioning relief 50, for example a straight relief, with a first main direction 52. The positioning tab 38 is a first positioning tab 54 with a first positioning portion. The air inlet grille 24 comprises a second positioning tab 56 with a second positioning portion. The positioning face 36 comprises a second positioning relief 58 interpenetrating with the second positioning portion of the second positioning tab 56 in order to position the second positioning tab 56 relative to the transverse body; the second positioning relief comprises a second main direction 82 inclined relative to the first main direction 52 by a second angle 62 of between 45° and 135°. Preferably, said second angle 62 is between 80° and 100°.

[0074] Generally, the air intake grille comprises a positioning tab, in particular formed by a positioning tab, with a positioning section. The transverse body comprises an imprint, such as a hollow imprint, of a shape complementary to the positioning section in order to position the positioning tab relative to the transverse body. The positioning imprint matches the positioning section.

[0075] In the present embodiment, each positioning relief is hollow; and is sunk into the shock absorber towards the rear. According to an alternative, the positioning relief comprises a protrusion projecting towards the front; and entering into, preferably passing through, the associated positioning portion.

[0076] In the present embodiment, the air inlet grille 24 comprises two positioning tabs 38; however, it may comprise at least three or any other number necessary for positioning the air inlet grille 24. Similarly, the positioning face 36 may comprise as many positioning reliefs 46 as positioning tabs 38.

[0077] There Figure 4 has a positioning tab 38 and a positioning relief 46 of an assembly for a front bumper 16 of a motor vehicle. The motor vehicle may correspond to that presented in relation to one of the figures 1 to 3 . In the present illustration, only one locating tab 38 and one locating relief 46 are shown. However, the following teaching applies to each locating tab 38 and each locating relief 46 of the front bumper assembly 16.

[0078] The air inlet grille 24 comprises a positioning tab 38 with a positioning portion 44 against the positioning face 36. Around it, the positioning face 36 comprises a positioning relief 46 which houses the positioning portion 44, preferably entirely; and at least partially the positioning tab 38. The positioning portion 44 may be a positioning section. The positioning portion 44 may generally form a disc, or a pad.

[0079] The positioning relief 46 and the positioning portion 44 are nested. They are engaged with each other. They interpenetrate in order to position the positioning tab 38 relative to the transverse body 60.

[0080] The positioning relief 46 comprises a positioning groove 48. The positioning groove 48 may be straight. Alternatively, it may be oblique. It extends upwards and inwards. The positioning groove 48 has a depth, for example an average depth. The positioning tab 38 is housed in, and extends into, the positioning groove 48. The positioning tab 38 comprises a thickness, such as a maximum thickness, less than said depth. The thickness is measured in the longitudinal direction; just like said depth of the positioning relief 46.

[0081] The positioning portion 44 advantageously comprises at least two positioning surfaces 64 cooperating with the positioning relief 46 or engaged in the positioning relief 46. The positioning surfaces 64 are perpendicular to each other.

[0082] The transverse body 60 has a transverse direction 66. The transverse direction 66 may correspond to that of the motor vehicle. The positioning groove 48 is inclined relative to the transverse direction 66 by a first angle 68 of between 20° and 80°; preferably of between 30° and 60°; more preferably of between 40° and 50°. The inclination of the positioning groove 48 relative to the transverse direction 66 may be measured on its central axis or on one of its lateral edges.

[0083] The positioning tab 38 has a connecting section 70 with a first width 72. The connecting section 70 may be straight or bent. When bent, it has a vertical segment and a segment inclined relative to the straight segment. The straight segment may be parallel to the positioning groove 48. The positioning portion 44 extends from the connecting section 70. The positioning portion 44 extends the connecting section 70. It comprises a second width 74 greater than the first width 72. The second width 74 may be a maximum width of the positioning portion 44. The positioning portion 44 comprises a disc against the positioning face. The second width 74 corresponds to the diameter of the disc.

[0084] The positioning relief 46 comprises a relief width 76 greater than or equal to the second width 74. The relief width 76 may be an internal width of the positioning groove 48. The relief width 76 is between 90% and 110% of the second width 74. These proportions optimize the positioning precision between the air inlet grille 24 and the shock absorber 30 while providing mechanical clearances facilitating assembly; and possibly disassembly.

[0085] The positioning tab 38 has a length and a main thickness that is constant over its entire length. The length is measured from the frame 40 to its free end. The positioning portion 44 comprises a widening wing 78, preferably two widening wings 78. Each widening wing 78 has an auxiliary thickness less than the average thickness, which makes them lighter. Each widening wing 78 increases the contact surface with the positioning relief 46, and therefore with the bottom of the positioning groove 48. The positioning is more precise. When the shock absorber 30 is made of foam, the positioning tab 38 has less of a tendency to sink; which improves the positioning.

[0086] The positioning tab 38 forms a discontinuity of material on the frame 40. It is optionally thinner than the latter. It is generally flat and perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. Thus, in the event of deformation, the base 80 of the positioning tab 38 has a stress concentration. When the air intake grille 24 is pushed rearward, the positioning tab 38 bends under the shock absorber 30, or breaks at the base 80. The positioning tab 38 is thus a fusible positioning tab. It allows geometric indexing until a pedestrian impact type event occurs, and it allows the air intake grille 24; in particular its frame 40; to be erased backward. Safety and positioning accuracy are optimized.

[0087] There Figure 5shows a section of a positioning interface between a positioning relief 46 and a positioning tab 38 of a front bumper assembly 16 of a motor vehicle. The motor vehicle may correspond to that presented in relation to one of the figures 1 to 4 .

[0088] The front bumper assembly 16 further comprises a bumper skin element 18, the positioning tab 38 being between the bumper skin element 18 and the shock absorber 30. In the event of a pedestrian impact, the bumper skin element 18 deforms and encounters the air intake grille. It presses around the positioning relief 46 and remains at a distance from the positioning tab 38 which is deeper. Thus, in the event of an impact, the damping capabilities of the shock absorber 30 are preserved during deformations.

[0089] The positioning portion 44 and the positioning relief 46 cooperate together to ensure positioning. The positioning relief 46 and the positioning portion 44 are linked by mechanical interlocking. They are inserted into each other. Their mechanical adjustment contributes to positioning accuracy.

[0090] The positioning relief 46 comprises a positioning groove 48 with a depth 84. The positioning tab 38 comprises a maximum thickness 86 less than said depth 84. The maximum thickness 86 corresponds in particular to the thickness of the positioning portion 44. Thus, the positioning tab 38 is housed in the thickness of the positioning relief 46. It is in particular in the depth of the positioning groove 48.

[0091] The positioning portion 44 comprising at least two positioning surfaces 64 cooperating with the positioning relief 46. These positioning surfaces 64 comprise a rear surface; also called a bearing surface 88. The bearing surface 88 is against the positioning face 36. The bearing surface 88 is a smooth bearing surface. Opposite, the positioning face has a smooth receiving surface 90; inside the positioning relief 46. These surfaces (88; 90) are flat. Thus, the bearing surface 88 and the smooth receiving surface 90 allow relative movement, which facilitates assembly, and avoids internal mechanical stresses in the positioning tab 38.

[0092] According to a preferred embodiment, the air inlet grille is made of a plastic or composite material. The plastic material may comprise a thermoplastic material or a thermosetting material. According to a preferred embodiment, the plastic material is selected from the group comprising polypropylene, polyamide, polyphthalamide, polyetheretherketone, polyphenylene sulfide, polyamide-imide, polyetherimide, polyarylamide, polyepoxide, unsaturated polyester, vinylester or polyester-vinylester resins. For example, the composite material comprises a matrix of a plastic material as described above with a reinforcement. For example, the reinforcement comprises glass or carbon fibers.

[0093] The invention includes the combination of all embodiments shown by all figures.

[0094] THE figures 2 to 5 are isometric figures.
