Description
[0001] DESCRIPTION
[0002] TITLE: Luggage carrier device configured to be attached to a rear part of the vehicle The invention relates to the field of luggage carrier devices for a vehicle and more particularly a device configured to be attached to a rear part of the vehicle.
[0003] Luggage racks are devices that allow at least one piece of luggage to be carried on an external part of the vehicle body. The luggage can be of any shape, weight, or volume, such as a spare tire, a solar shower, a bicycle, or a jerry can of gasoline;
[0004] The terms "front", "rear", "top" and "bottom" of the vehicle are defined as referring to the vehicle in a forward driving situation. In other words, when a driver of said vehicle is normally seated in a driving position, said driver has his back to the rear part of the vehicle, and faces the front of the vehicle.
[0005] The invention relates to luggage rack devices which are positioned more specifically on the external part of the bodywork, at the rear of the vehicle.
[0006] The geometry of the external part of the body at the rear of the vehicle varies depending on the vehicle, including height, width or curvature radius.
[0007] Generally, the external part of the bodywork at the rear of the vehicle is movable in one or more leaves, generally two, so as to be able to access an internal part of the vehicle. The at least one leaf is movable along an axis of rotation extending along the width or height of the vehicle.
[0008] There are luggage rack devices for a vehicle which are configured to attach to a rear portion of the vehicle, and which comprise at least one first support element extending along a first axis, and at least one second support element which is movable between a closed position in which the at least one second element extends substantially parallel to the at least one first element, and an open position in which the at least one second element forms an angle with the at least one first element, the second element being held and locked in the closed position by means of a hook.
[0009] However, such a hook is bulky, requires the assembly of several parts and has a significant manufacturing cost.
[0010] Furthermore, installing such a hook when the second element moves into the closed position requires a user maneuver. Thus, it is possible that the user forgets to position the hook, which poses a safety risk to the vehicle if it moves forward. Furthermore, known luggage rack devices have poor adaptation to the different geometries of the external part of the bodywork at the rear of the vehicle as well as to the presence of one or more doors.
[0011] Finally, known luggage racks rarely allow the transport of a significant load of luggage, i.e. more than 100 kg.
[0012] The invention aims to overcome all or part of the aforementioned drawbacks by proposing a luggage rack device for a vehicle, said device being configured to be fixed to a rear part of the vehicle, said device comprising at least one first support element intended to be fixed to the rear part of the vehicle, and at least one second support element which is rotatable about a first axis between a closed position in which the at least one second element forms an angle with the at least one first element included in a first angle value range, and an open position in which the angle between the at least one second element and the at least one first element included in a second angle value range, characterized in that the device also comprises at least one first locking device comprising: a locking surface provided with a locking orifice, said locking surface being positioned on one of the at least one first element and the at least one second element; a locking element comprising a locking rod which is movable along a second axis between an extended position and a retracted position, said locking element being positioned on the other of the at least one first element and the at least one second element; when the device is in the closed position, a first end of the locking rod is inserted into the locking hole so that the at least one second element is fixed to the at least one first element.,
[0013] The luggage carrier device, and more particularly the second element, may be in the closed position. In this position, the second element forms an angle with the at least one first element included in a first angle value range. For example, the first angle value range is [0°; 20°], preferably [0°, 10°]. Preferably, the second element extends substantially parallel to the first element.
[0014] The second element may also be in the open position. In this position, the second element may be distant from the first element and form an angle with the first element within a second angle value range. For example, the second angle value range is ]0° and 360°], preferably ]0°, 180°]. In the open position of the device, it is possible to access the at least one leaf of the external part of the bodywork at the rear of the vehicle. The second element is secured to the first element, in the closed position, by means of the first locking device. Thus, there is no risk of an unexpected change in position of the second element, in particular when the vehicle is moving.
[0015] The first locking device comprises on the one hand the locking surface and on the other hand the locking element, the locking surface being fixed on the at least one first element or on the at least one second element, while the locking element is fixed on the other of the at least one first element and the at least one second element.
[0016] The locking surface includes a locking hole configured to cooperate with the first end of the locking rod. That is, the first end of the locking rod is insertable into the locking hole.
[0017] Thus, the device according to the invention presents a simple, economical and compact way of locking the second element onto the first element.
[0018] The invention may also have one or more of the following features taken alone or in combination.
[0019] According to one embodiment, the at least one first support element extends along a third axis.
[0020] According to one embodiment, the first axis extends substantially perpendicular to the third axis.
[0021] According to one embodiment, the second axis extends substantially parallel to the first axis.
[0022] According to one embodiment, in the closed position, the second element extends along the first element.
[0023] According to one embodiment, the second member is attached to one end of the first member. According to one embodiment, the locking rod comprises a second end provided with a manipulation member configured to be manipulated by a user.
[0024] According to one embodiment, the locking rod is movable in rotation or in translation along the second axis.
[0025] According to one embodiment, a position of the locking rod along an axis extending substantially perpendicular to the second axis and the third axis is adjustable between a first adjustment position and a second adjustment position.
[0026] Thus, the locking device can be adjusted between the first adjustment position and the second adjustment position.
[0027] According to one embodiment, the position of the locking rod along the second axis is adjustable between a third adjustment position and a fourth adjustment position.
[0028] Thus, the position of the locking device can be adapted along the second axis. According to one embodiment, the locking rod of the locking element is in the deployed position at rest, and in the retracted position when a stress exerted substantially along the second axis is exerted on said locking rod.
[0029] Thus, the locking rod automatically moves from the retracted position to the extended position if no stress is exerted on the locking element.
[0030] According to one embodiment, the locking surface also comprises a guide surface configured to move the locking rod between the extended position and the retracted position during a transition of the second element from the open position to the closed position.
[0031] Thus, the guide surface allows the locking rod to be retracted until it is inserted into the locking hole.
[0032] According to one embodiment, the guide surface is inclined relative to a plane in which the locking orifice extends.
[0033] This allows the guide surface to retract the locking rod gradually.
[0034] The guide surface automatically positions the locking rod in the locking hole when the second element moves from the open position to the closed position. There is therefore no longer any risk of a user forgetting to lock the second element onto the first element.
[0035] According to one embodiment, the locking orifice has an oblong shape which extends along the third axis.
[0036] This makes it easier to insert the locking rod into the locking hole.
[0037] According to one embodiment, the device comprises at least one support portion which comprises at least one support surface configured to position the at least one second element in the same plane as the at least one first element when the device is in the closed position, said support surface being positioned on one of the at least one first element and the at least one second element.
[0038] Thus when the second element is in the closed position, the support portion comes to level the second element with the first element.
[0039] Furthermore, the support portion forms a load-bearing support for the first element or the second element, which makes it possible to distribute the weight exerted by the luggage on the first element and the second element. The device according to the invention therefore allows for significant loading.
[0040] According to one embodiment, the support surface also comprises a support guide surface configured to move the at least one second element into the same plane as the at least one first element when the second element moves from the open position to the closed position. Thus, the movement of the at least one second element into the same plane as the at least one first element when the second element moves from the open position to the closed position does not require any specific action from the user. This movement is automatic when the second element is closed.
[0041] According to one embodiment, the support guide surface is inclined relative to the plane in which the at least first element extends.
[0042] Thus the passage in the plane in which the first element extends is progressive.
[0043] According to one embodiment, the support guide surface is made of polymer, for example HDPE (high density polyethylene) or Teflon.
[0044] Thus, the guide surface allows sliding of the first or second support element.
[0045] According to one embodiment, the support portion also comprises a guide rod configured to cooperate with a guide orifice of the support surface so as to guide a position of the second element during the transition from the open position to the closed position.
[0046] The guide rod is positioned on the first or second element that does not support the support surface. The guide rod is therefore opposite the support surface.
[0047] The guide rod is inserted into the guide hole when the second element moves from the open position to the closed position. A position of the guide rod in the closed position is therefore determined by a position of the guide hole.
[0048] According to one embodiment, the guide rod extends substantially parallel to the first axis.
[0049] According to one embodiment, the guide orifice has a “V” shape open on a free edge of the support surface.
[0050] Thus, the guide rod is gradually guided into its final position when the second element is placed in the closed position.
[0051] According to one embodiment, a free end of the guide rod comprises a retaining surface configured to be positioned in contact with the support surface so as to guide a position of the second element in the closed position along an axis parallel to the axis of the guide rod.
[0052] Thus the second element is retained in the plane of the first element when a stress is exerted on the second element along an axis parallel to the axis of the guide rod. This situation can occur when the vehicle is traveling on a road with significant deformations.
[0053] According to one embodiment, a position of the guide rod is adjustable along an elongation axis of the guide rod. Thus, it is possible to adapt the position of the guide rod so that the retaining surface can be positioned perfectly with respect to the support surface.
[0054] According to one embodiment, the second support element comprises a second locking device provided with at least one locking hook and / or at least one stop member, each of the at least one locking hook and the at least one stop member being configured to come into contact with the rear part of the vehicle when the second element is in the closed position.
[0055] The second locking device has the objective of maintaining and retaining the luggage rack device when the vehicle is moving forward or braking. More specifically, the at least one hook limits a movement of the second element in a first direction, i.e. when a first force is exerted on the second element. The at least one stop member limits a movement of the second element in a second direction, opposite to the first direction, i.e. when a second force, opposite to the first force, is exerted on the second element.
[0056] According to one embodiment, a position of the at least one locking hook along a first adjustment axis is adjustable between a first adjustment position and a second adjustment position.
[0057] According to one embodiment, a position of the at least one locking hook along a second adjustment axis is adjustable between a third adjustment position and a fourth adjustment position, the second adjustment axis forming an angle with the first adjustment axis included in a third angle value range.
[0058] According to one embodiment, the third angle value range is between [45°, 180°], for example between [60°, 180°].
[0059] This way the position of the locking hook can be adapted to the rear part of the vehicle.
[0060] According to one embodiment, a position of the at least one stop member is adjustable along a first adaptation axis between a first adaptation position and a second adaptation position.
[0061] According to one embodiment, the position of the at least one stop member along a second adaptation axis is adjustable between a third adaptation position and a fourth adaptation position, the second adaptation axis forming an angle with the first adaptation axis included in a fourth angle value range.
[0062] According to one embodiment, the fourth angle value range is [20°, 160°].
[0063] According to one embodiment, the position of the at least one stop member is movable in rotation along the first adaptation axis.
[0064] Thus the position of the stop member is adaptable to the rear part of the vehicle. According to one embodiment, the second support element comprises a fixed portion and a movable portion which is connected to the fixed portion by means of a rotation axis, a position of the movable portion being adjustable by rotation between a first rotation position and a second rotation position.
[0065] According to one embodiment, the axis of rotation between the fixed portion and the movable portion extends substantially perpendicular to the first axis.
[0066] According to one embodiment, a position of the rotation axis is adjustable along an adjustment axis forming an adjustment angle with an elongation axis of the fixed portion included in an adjustment angle value range.
[0067] According to one embodiment, the adjustment angle value range is within the interval [0°, 90°].
[0068] Thus, the movable portion and the fixed portion of the second support element are movable relative to each other.

[0079] Only the elements necessary for understanding the invention have been shown. To facilitate reading of the drawings, the same elements bear the same references from one figure to another.
[0080] The invention relates to a luggage rack device 100 for a vehicle, said device 100 being configured to attach to a rear portion of the vehicle.
[0081] The terms "front", "rear", "top" and "bottom" of the vehicle are defined as referring to the vehicle in a forward driving situation. In other words, when a driver of said vehicle is normally seated in a driving position, said driver has his back to the rear part of the vehicle, and faces the front of the vehicle.
[0082] The device 100 comprises at least a first support element 1 intended to be fixed to the rear part of the vehicle, and more particularly to a chassis of the vehicle. The first support element 1 extends along a third axis C. The first support element 1 has a substantially rectangular section and has the shape of a beam.
[0083] The first support element 1 is extended at each end by a second support element 2 in a symmetrical manner. In the remainder of the description, only a second element 2 will be referred to in order to simplify reading.
[0084] The second support element 2 is rotatable about a first axis A between a closed position illustrated in Figure 1 and an open position illustrated in Figure 2. The first axis A extends substantially perpendicular to the third axis C. In the plane in which the first element 1 extends, the second element 2 has a substantially rectangular section and has the shape of a beam.
[0085] In the closed position, the second element 2 forms an angle α with the first element 1 included in a first angle value range. For example, the first angle value range is [0°; 20°], preferably [0°, 10°]. Preferably, the second element 2 extends substantially parallel to the first element 1. According to one embodiment, in the closed position, the part of the second element 2 in the plane of the first element extends along the first element 1.
[0086] The second element 2 may also be in the open position. In this position, the second element 2 may be moved away from the first element 1 so that the angle formed with the first element 1 is within a second angle value range. For example, the second angle value range is ]0° and 360°], preferably ]0°, 180°]. In the open position of the device 100, it is possible to access the at least one leaf of the external part of the bodywork at the rear of the vehicle 101.
[0087] The second element 2 is secured to the first element 1, in the closed position, by means of a first locking device 10 shown in figures 3 and 4.
[0088] The first locking device 10 comprises a locking surface 11 positioned on the first element 1. Similarly, the locking surface 11 could have been positioned on the second element 2. The locking surface 11 is provided with a locking hole 111 which extends on a face of the first element 1. The locking hole 111 has an oblong shape which extends along the third axis C.
[0089] According to one embodiment, the locking surface 11 also comprises a guide surface 112 which is inclined relative to a plane in which the locking orifice 111 extends, i.e. in the plane in which the first element 1 extends. The first locking device 10 comprises a locking element 12 positioned on the second element 2. The locking element 12 comprises a locking rod 121 which is movable in translation along a second axis B between a deployed position and a retracted position.
[0090] The second axis B extends substantially parallel to the first axis A.
[0091] A position of the locking rod 121, with respect to the second element 2, is adjustable between a first adjustment position and a second adjustment position along an axis B' extending substantially perpendicular to the second axis B and to the third axis C. This adjustment is carried out by means of a movement of the locking rod 121 in an oblong orifice 125 which extends along the axis B'. The position of the locking rod 121 is fixed by tightening a system of nuts 124.
[0092] The position of the locking rod 121, with respect to the second element 2, is also adjustable between a third adjustment position and a fourth adjustment position along the second axis B. This adjustment is carried out by means of a movement of the locking rod 121 along the second axis B by a modification of a positioning along the second axis B of the nut system 124.
[0093] The locking rod 121 comprises a second end provided with a manipulation element 123 configured to be manipulated by a user.
[0094] The locking rod 121 of the locking element 12 is in the deployed position at rest, and in the retracted position when a stress is exerted substantially along the second axis B on said locking rod 121. Thus, the locking rod 121 automatically passes from the retracted position to the deployed position if no stress is exerted on the locking element 12.
[0095] The locking hole 111 is configured to cooperate with the first end 122 of the locking rod 121. In other words, the first end 122 of the locking rod 121 can be inserted into the locking hole 111.
[0096] In the open position, without any particular manipulation by a user, no stress is exerted on the locking rod 121. It is therefore in a deployed position.
[0097] When the second element 2 moves from the open position to the closed position, the second element 2 is brought closer to the first element 1. The locking rod 121, and more particularly the first end 122, comes into contact with the guide surface 112 which exerts a stress along the second axis B. The locking rod 121 therefore moves progressively from the deployed position to the retracted position.
[0098] When the device 100 is in the closed position, the locking rod 121 is opposite the locking orifice 111. No further stress is exerted on the locking rod 121 which returns to the deployed position. Thus, the first end 122 of the locking rod 121 is inserted into the locking orifice 111 so that the second element 2 is fixed to the first element 1.
[0099] Thus, the guide surface 112 allows the locking rod 121 to be gradually and automatically retracted until it is inserted into the locking hole 111. There is therefore no risk that the user will forget to lock the second element 2 onto the first element 1.
[0100] Thus, the device 100 according to the invention presents a simple, economical and compact way of locking the second element 2 onto the first element 1.
[0101] According to one embodiment, the device 100 comprises at least one support portion 20 which comprises a support surface 21 configured to position the second element 2 in the same plane as the first element 1 when the device 100 is in the closed position as illustrated in FIG. 5. The support portion 20 forms a load-bearing support for the second element 2 which makes it possible to distribute a weight exerted by luggage on the first element 1 and on the second element 2. The device 100 according to the invention therefore allows significant loading.
[0102] The support surface 21 is positioned on the first element. Alternatively, it can be positioned on the second element 2. The support surface 21 is fixed on a face of the first element 1 opposite a face comprising the locking surface 11.
[0103] The support surface 21 also comprises a support guide surface 212. The support guide surface 212 is inclined relative to the plane in which the first element 1 extends. The support guide surface 212 is configured to gradually and automatically, i.e. without specific action by the user, move the second element 2 into the same plane as the first element 1 when the second element 2 moves from the open position to the closed position.
[0104] According to one embodiment, the support guide surface 212 is made of polymer such as for example HDPE (high density polyethylene) or Teflon, thus allowing sliding of the second support element 2.
[0105] According to one embodiment, the support surface 21 comprises a guide orifice 213 which has a “V” shape open on a free edge of the support surface 21.
[0106] According to one embodiment, the support portion 20 also comprises a guide rod 22 positioned on the second element 2. The guide rod 22 is therefore opposite the support surface 21. The guide rod 22 extends substantially parallel to the first axis A.
[0107] The guide rod 22 is gradually guided into its final position in the guide orifice 213 during the passage of the second element 2 from the open position to the closed position. A position of the guide rod 22 in the closed position is therefore determined by a position of the guide orifice 213. According to one embodiment, a free end of the guide rod 22 comprises a retaining surface 221 configured to be positioned in contact with the support surface 21 so as to guide a position of the second element 2 in the closed position along an axis parallel to the axis of the guide rod 22.
[0108] Thus the second element 2 is retained in the plane of the first element 1 when a stress is exerted on the second element 2 along an axis parallel to the axis of the guide rod 22. This situation can occur when the vehicle 101 is traveling on a road exhibiting significant deformations.
[0109] According to one embodiment, a position of the guide rod 22 is adjustable along an elongation axis of the guide rod 22.
[0110] Thus, it is possible to adapt the position of the guide rod 22 so that the retaining surface 221 can be positioned perfectly with respect to the support surface.
[0111] According to one embodiment, the second support element 2 comprises a second locking device 30 provided with at least one locking hook 31 configured to come into contact with the rear part of the vehicle 101 when the second element 2 is in the closed position. The locking hook 31 is movable between a locking position in which the locking hook 31 is in contact with the vehicle, as illustrated in FIG. 6, and a free position in which the locking hook 31 is not in contact with the vehicle. In the free position, the second element 2 can be, provided that the first locking device 10 is in the retracted position, moved away from the first element 1 and thus access an interior part of the vehicle.
[0112] The locking hook 31 is positioned at a free end of the second element 2.
[0113] A position of the locking hook 31 along a second adjustment axis D2 is adjustable between a third adjustment position and a fourth adjustment position as illustrated in FIG. 7. The second adjustment axis D2 extends substantially parallel to an elongation axis of the vehicle, or to the axis B'. This adjustment is achieved by inserting at least one guide pin 311 of the locking hook into different orifices.
[0114] A position of the locking hook 31 along a first adjustment axis D1 is adjustable between a first adjustment position and a second adjustment position as illustrated in FIG. 7. The first adjustment axis D1 forms an angle p with the second adjustment axis D2 within a third angle value range. The third angle value range is [60°, 120°].
[0115] Thus the position of the locking hook 31 is adaptable to the rear part of the vehicle.
[0116] The second locking device 30 is provided with at least one stop member 32 configured to come into contact with the rear part of the vehicle 101 when the second element 2 is in the closed position. The stop member 32 is positioned at a free end of the second element 2.
[0117] A position of the stop member 32 is adjustable along a second adaptation axis E2 between a third adaptation position and a fourth adaptation position. This adjustment is achieved by inserting a pin of the stop member 32 into an orifice.
[0118] According to one embodiment, the position of the stop member 32 along a first adaptation axis E1 is adjustable between a first adaptation position and a second adaptation position, the second adaptation axis E2 forming an angle GO with the first adaptation axis E1 included in a fourth angle value range. The fourth angle value range is [20°, 160°]. This adjustment is carried out by a translation of a carrying bar 321 on which the stop member 32 is fixed along the first adaptation axis E1, as illustrated in FIG. 8.
[0119] According to one embodiment, the position of the stop member 32 is movable in rotation along the first adaptation axis E1.
[0120] Thus the position of the stop member 32 is adaptable to the rear part of the vehicle.
[0121] The second locking device 30 has the objective of, on the one hand, maintaining and, on the other hand, retaining the luggage rack device 100 when the vehicle 101 is moving forward or braking. More precisely, the at least one hook limits a movement of the second element 2 in a first direction, that is to say when a first force is exerted on the second element 2. The stop member 32 limits a movement of the second element 2 in a second direction, opposite to the first direction, that is to say when a second force, opposite to the first force, is exerted on the second element 2.
[0122] The second locking device 30 comprises a protective cover 33. The protective cover 33 covers the end of the second element 2 in order to make the protruding parts of the second locking device 30 inaccessible.
[0123] According to one embodiment, the second support element 2 has a general “L” shape, one end of which is connected to the first element 1 and a second end carries the second locking device 30. A part of the second element 2 is in the plane of the first element 1, while the perpendicular part extends in a plane normal to the plane of the first element 1.
[0124] The second element 2 comprises a fixed portion 40 and a movable portion 50 which is connected to the fixed portion 40 by means of a rotation axis F, a position of the movable portion 50 being adjustable by rotation between a first rotation position and a second rotation position as illustrated in figure 9.
[0125] According to one embodiment, the axis of rotation F between the fixed portion 40 and the movable portion 50 extends substantially perpendicular to the first axis A and substantially parallel to the third axis C. According to one embodiment, a position of the axis of rotation F is adjustable along an adjustment axis forming an adjustment angle with an axis of elongation of the fixed portion 40 included in a range of adjustment angle values.
[0126] According to one embodiment, the adjustment angle value range is within the interval [0°, 90°].
[0127] Thus, the movable portion 50 and the fixed portion 40 of the second support element 2 are movable relative to each other.
[0128] Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiments described and shown in the attached figures. Modifications remain possible, particularly from the point of view of the constitution of the various elements or by substitution of technical equivalents, without departing from the scope of protection of the invention.
