Abstract
Description
[0001] shipping bag
[0002] The invention relates to a shipping bag made from a folded and glued paper blank having a first outer side surface and an opposite second outer side surface, between which a free space is formed for an object to be shipped.
[0003] Such mailing bags or envelopes are often used for shipping items that are of a certain thickness or have an angular outer contour. In such cases, it is necessary to use a padded mailing bag to prevent damage to the mailing bag itself during transport, as well as damage to the item contained within.
[0004] It's common practice to line shipping bags with bubble wrap. Both outer sides, which may be made of paper, for example, are lined with bubble wrap on their inner surfaces to cushion and protect the item being shipped.
[0005] Such mailing bags are typically discarded after a single use. Since recycling is difficult due to the two materials combined, paper and plastic, and is rarely carried out on a significant scale in practice, the use of such mailing bags with bubble wrap is viewed critically from an environmental perspective. Therefore, there is a need for mailing bags whose production does not require bubble wrap.
[0006] The invention is therefore based on the object of providing a shipping bag in which the item to be shipped is protected by padding without the need for bubble wrap. To achieve this object, the invention provides that at least one outer side surface has a padded section on its inner side, which is formed from particles consisting of shredded corrugated cardboard and / or paper-based residual particles.
[0007] The invention is based on the discovery that a particularly environmentally friendly shipping bag can be created by providing both side surfaces with a padded section made of corrugated cardboard particles and / or paper-based residual particles. The shipping bag according to the invention is characterized in particular in that no plastic, particularly in the form of bubble wrap, is required for its production. Accordingly, the shipping bag can be manufactured in a resource-efficient manner. The padded section is made of shredded corrugated cardboard or shredded paper; accordingly, the particles used for padding can be made from residues left over from the manufacture of corrugated cardboard or paper products. Likewise, previously used corrugated cardboard or used paper in the form of waste paper can be used to produce the particles.
[0008] The term "paper-based residual particles" used in this application generally refers to shredded paper produced from paper sheets by cutting, punching, shredding, chopping, or another process. Preferably, paper scraps are used for this purpose. The paper-based residual particles can also be made from waste paper. Corrugated board particles and paper-based residual particles can be mixed in any ratio.
[0009] In the mailing bag according to the invention, it is preferred that the padded section be accommodated between at least one outer side surface of the blank and an inner surface. In this way, the particles are surrounded on both sides by the paper blank. Both the outer side surface of the mailing bag and the inner surface are smooth, thus preventing the item to be shipped from coming into contact with the particles, which are not visible from the outside.
[0010] A preferred variant of the invention provides that the inner surface is an integral part of the blank. The inner surface is at least approximately the same size as the corresponding outer side surface; by folding, the inner surface and the outer side surface can be aligned with each other, with the padded section arranged between them.
[0011] Alternatively, the inner surface can also be designed as a separate cover sheet that is connected to the blank. In particular, the cover sheet designed as the inner surface can be glued to the blank.
[0012] Of course, both outer side surfaces can be provided with a padded section made of shredded corrugated cardboard and / or paper-based waste particles on their inside, although this variant is preferred. The contents of the mailing bag can then be protected on all sides by the padded section.
[0013] According to a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, the particles are glued to the inside of the side surface. This bonding prevents the particles, which are held between the respective outer side surface and the inner surface of the blank, from becoming unevenly distributed. Instead, the bonding ensures that they retain their position. This ensures that the padded section has permanently homogeneous properties.
[0014] For ecological reasons, it is preferred that the particles be bonded together using a biodegradable adhesive or glue. The glue can be cold or hot glue. The glue is applied to the inside of one of the two surfaces surrounding the padded section, then the particles made from shredded corrugated cardboard and / or paper are sprinkled onto the glued surface.
[0015] The particles may be rectangular in shape. However, other shapes are also conceivable, such as round, triangular, or irregular.
[0016] In the shipping bag according to the invention, the length of the particles can be 10 to 20 mm and / or the width of the particles can be 1 to 5 mm. It is particularly preferred if the particles have a length of 10 to 15 mm and a width of approximately 3 mm.
[0017] Optionally, the shipping bag can have a double fold on its long sides.
[0018] A method for manufacturing a mailing bag includes the following steps:
[0019] - producing a paper blank having a first outer side surface and an opposite second outer side surface,
[0020] - Applying an adhesive to the inside of one or both outer side surfaces,
[0021] - Production of particles by shredding corrugated cardboard or paper,
[0022] - Forming a padded section by sprinkling the particles onto the side surfaces provided with the adhesive,
[0023] - Allow the adhesive to dry or harden,
[0024] - Folding and gluing the cut-out to form the shipping envelope.
[0025] The step of producing the particles does not necessarily have to occur after the adhesive has been applied; rather, the particles can be produced at any time. The specified sequence of process steps is therefore merely an example. The particles can be produced, for example, by cutting and / or punching leftover pieces. Preferably, in the process, one or both outer side surfaces of the blank are assigned an inner surface, which is bonded to the corresponding outer side surface after the particles have been applied.
[0026] The invention is explained below using exemplary embodiments with reference to the drawings. The drawings are schematic representations and show:

[0032] Fig. 6A - 6D show the various steps in the production of a shipping bag according to the invention according to a fourth embodiment.
[0033] The blank 1 for a mailing bag shown in Fig. 1 has a rectangular basic shape and essentially comprises a first outer side surface 2, a second outer side surface 3, a first inner surface 4 and a second inner surface 5, each of which is delimited by fold lines extending perpendicular to the outer edges. By shredding corrugated cardboard, particles are produced that serve as padding. Production takes place by cutting up leftover pieces of the corrugated cardboard. The corrugated cardboard particles have an essentially rectangular basic shape. Alternatively or additionally, particles serving as padding can also be made of paper, thus creating paper-based leftover particles. The paper-based leftover particles can be used in the same way as the corrugated cardboard particles in the production of the mailing bag.
[0034] The first outer side surface 2 and the second outer side surface 3 are provided with an adhesive. Rectangular adhesive surfaces 6, 7 of the two outer side surfaces 2, 3 are represented by dashed lines. The corrugated cardboard particles not shown in Fig. 1 are applied to both adhesive surfaces 6, 7 and fixed with the adhesive. Subsequently, the blank 1 is folded along a fold line.
[0035] 8, so that the second inner surface 5 rests on the second outer side surface 3. After folding, the first inner surface 4 rests on the first outer side surface 2. This first fold can be made before the adhesive has dried or hardened. Alternatively, the first fold can be made after the adhesive has dried or hardened. After the first fold, each inner surface of the blank 1 is glued to the corresponding outer side surface.
[0036] Between the first inner surface 4 and the second inner surface 5 there is a fold line
[0037] 9 is formed. A fold line 10 is formed between the first outer side surface 2 and the second outer side surface 3. After the first fold, the two fold lines 9, 10 lie on top of one another. A second fold is then made inwards along the two superimposed fold lines 9, 10, such that the two outer side surfaces 2, 3 are on the outside and the two inner surfaces 4, 5 are on the inside. Before the second fold, the edges extending in the longitudinal direction of the blank 1 are provided with an adhesive, so that the mailing bag formed in this way is glued on both sides at points or in lines. At each of the two free ends of the blank 1 there is a flap 11, 12 with a tear-open perforation, next to each of which there is an adhesive surface covered with an adhesive strip made of silicone paper. The flap 12 is longer than the flap 11.When the mailing bag is fully folded and sealed, the two adhesive surfaces are spaced apart in the longitudinal direction of the blank 1. To close the mailing bag, the outer adhesive strip is removed, the flap 12 is folded over, and the mailing bag is sealed using the adhesive strip. The recipient can open the mailing bag using the tear-open perforation. The second, inner adhesive strip allows the mailing bag to be reused. To do this, the tear-open perforation and the silicone paper of the inner adhesive strip are removed. The remaining flap 12 is folded over so that the mailing bag is sealed using the adhesive surface of the flap 12.
[0038] Fig. 2 shows a blank 13 for a mailing bag according to a second embodiment. In accordance with the first embodiment, the blank 13 comprises a first outer side surface 14, a second outer side surface 15, a first inner surface 16, and a second inner surface 17. A fold line is formed between adjacent surfaces. A flap 18, 19 is located at each of the two free ends of the blank 13, with the flap 19 being longer than the flap 18.
[0039] In Fig. 2 it can be seen that the first outer side surface 14, the second outer side surface 15, the first inner surface 16 and the second inner surface 17 have fold sections 20, 21 on both long sides, wherein the fold sections 20 assigned to the first inner surface 16 and the first outer side surface 14 have a greater width than the fold sections 21 assigned to the second inner surface 17 and the second outer side surface 15. The fold sections 20 are approximately twice as wide as the fold sections 21 and have an additional fold line which runs in the longitudinal direction and divides the fold sections 20 into two sections of approximately equal width. A fold line is formed between each fold section 20, 21 and the associated inner surface 16, 17 or side surface 14, 15.
[0040] Rectangular adhesive surfaces 22, 23 are formed on the first outer side surface 14 and the second outer side surface 15 of the blank 13. Both adhesive surfaces 22, 23 are provided with an adhesive, onto which corrugated cardboard particles made from shredded corrugated cardboard are subsequently sprinkled.
[0041] 3A to 3E show the various steps in producing a mailing bag by folding and gluing the blank 13. Fig. 3A shows that the first outer side surface 14, the second outer side surface 15, the first inner surface 16 and the second inner surface 17 are provided with adhesive at specific points near their long sides adjacent to the fold sections 20, 21. Alternatively, the adhesive can also be applied linearly. The fold sections 20, 21 are then folded inwards, as shown by the arrows. As a result, the narrow fold sections 21 are completely glued to the side surfaces or inner surfaces, and the wide fold sections 20 are glued across half their width, resulting in the state shown in Fig. 3B. The inner sections of the wide fold sections 20 are not glued and are then folded outwards.
[0042] Fig. 3C shows that the blank 13 is then folded around a central fold line formed between the second outer side surface 15 and the second inner surface 17, in the direction indicated by the arrow. This encloses the corrugated cardboard particles between a side surface and an inner surface. Adhesive has been applied in advance to the fold sections 20, 21, bonding them together.
[0043] Fig. 3D shows the blank 13 after the pleated sections 20, 21 have been glued together. A fold is present on both sides of the first outer side surface 14 and the first inner surface 16 due to the double folding of the pleated section 20. In this state, adhesive is again applied to the pleated sections 20, 21 in a pointwise manner. The blank 13 is folded around a fold line 24 formed between the first inner surface 16 and the second inner surface 17, as shown in Fig. 3E.
[0044] Finally, Fig. 4 shows the shipping bag 25 produced by the folding and gluing process, which has a fold 26 on each of its sides, so that the shipping bag 25 is also suitable for receiving objects that have a certain height.
[0045] Figures 5A-5D show the various steps in the manufacture of a mailing bag according to a third embodiment. Those steps that correspond to those of the previous embodiments will not be described again in detail.
[0046] Fig. 5A shows a blank 27 having second outer side surfaces 28, 29, each provided with corrugated cardboard particles. Above this, a cover sheet 30 is shown, which comprises two inner surfaces 31, 32.
[0047] In Fig. 5B it is shown that the longitudinal sides 33 of the outer side surfaces 28, 29 are provided with adhesive, then the cover sheet 30 is glued to the blank 27.
[0048] In the next step, shown in Fig. 5C, the longitudinal sides 35 of the blank 27 are folded around a fold line 34 formed between the two inner surfaces 31, 32. In the glued state, the inner surfaces 31, 32 define the space intended for receiving an object to be shipped.
[0049] Two adhesive strips 37, 38 are applied in the area of a flap 36. Fig. 5D shows the final state after a mailing bag has been produced from the blank 27. Figs. 6A - 6D show the various steps in the production of a mailing bag according to a fourth embodiment. The blank 39 is constructed similarly to the blank 27 described in the previous embodiment. It differs only by a double fold 40 at the
[0050] Side edges, which is shown in Fig. 6A. Fig. 6B shows that the double fold 40 is provided with adhesive before the cover sheet 30 is glued to the blank 39. The remaining steps for producing the mailing bag correspond to those of the embodiment shown in Figs. 5A-5D.
