Description

[0001] Foil cartridge, support sleeve and cartridge system

[0002] The invention relates to a foil cartridge fillable with at least one fluid, comprising a foil bag as the cartridge shell and a rigid head portion. The invention further relates to a support sleeve for holding or supporting a foil cartridge according to the invention and to a cartridge system comprising at least one foil cartridge according to the invention, a support sleeve according to the invention, and a piston.

[0003] Cartridges are filled with sealants or adhesives, for example, and used with a gun-like one- or two-component mixing or dispensing system to dispense the contained material. In some systems, such as the so-called side-by-side cartridge (double cartridge), the mixing or dispensing system has a piston for each cartridge unit filled with sealant or adhesive, which is designed to dispense the sealant or adhesive from the cartridge. So-called coaxial cartridges can also be used, in which only one piston is used to dispense the contained material, with an outer cartridge surrounding an inner cartridge.

[0004] In view of the growing demand for more sustainable devices, mixing and dispensing systems are now often designed as reusable systems, so that only the cartridge needs to be replaced when it is completely empty.

[0005] Furthermore, so-called foil cartridges are increasingly being used for the cartridges to be replaced. In contrast to conventional cartridges, which are made entirely of plastic, foil cartridges can be at least partially made of foil or film. In known foil cartridges, the cartridge wall that surrounds the cartridge chamber is made of film or foil and connected to a rigid head section, which is made of plastic, for example. This design has several advantages. Firstly, unfilled cartridges can be better stored and transported from the cartridge manufacturers to the manufacturers of the filling material (i.e., adhesives, sealants, etc.), since the foil cartridges require significantly less space when collapsed. Only at the time of filling does the foil cartridge expand to its final size, which can be selected as desired.

[0006] Secondly, foil cartridges are also significantly lighter than conventional plastic cartridges. This means that foil cartridges are significantly smaller and lighter before and after use compared to conventional cartridges. This also significantly reduces disposal costs.

[0007] In any case, the ecological footprint of a foil cartridge is significantly better than that of conventional cartridges made of plastic (e.g. by injection molding).

[0008] Compared to rigid cartridges, foil cartridges lack inherent stability. Thus, unless further supported, foil cartridges would collapse during use. Therefore, existing systems incorporate (reusable) support sleeves, which serve as a kind of skeleton for the foil cartridge and provide it with the necessary stability.

[0009] Such support sleeves are usually made of metal and / or plastic to ensure their reusable nature. To hold the foil cartridge, the head of the foil cartridge is usually clamped to a front end of the support sleeve in existing systems, allowing the piston to press against the flexible cartridge wall from behind, thereby emptying it.

[0010] For this reason, it is an object of the invention to provide a cartridge with which the replacement or attachment of the foil cartridge to the support sleeve is simplified.

[0011] This object is achieved by the foil cartridge, the support sleeve and the cartridge system having the features of the independent claims.

[0012] In particular, the invention provides a foil cartridge fillable with at least one fluid, wherein the foil cartridge consists of a foil bag as the cartridge shell and a rigid head part. The head part comprises at least one outlet opening for emptying the fluid from the foil cartridge and at least one external thread for attaching the foil cartridge to a support sleeve, wherein the foil bag is fixed to the head part in the region of the external thread.

[0013] Advantageous embodiments of the invention can be found in the dependent claims, the description and the drawings.

[0014] According to one embodiment, the foil bag is attached to an outer side of the head part. The foil bag can overlap the head part in a certain area, allowing it to be molded, glued, or otherwise secured to the head part.

[0015] According to one embodiment, the foil bag is attached to the head part in such a way that it surrounds the external thread or rests against it in a form-fitting manner. This means that the foil bag can be tensioned so that the foil bag lies over the external thread, but snugly fits against it in such a way that it does not prevent the foil cartridge from being screwed onto a support sleeve.

[0016] According to an alternative embodiment, the foil bag is fixed to an inner side of the head part. It is also possible for the head part to be designed in such a way that the foil bag is attached to an inner side of the head part.

[0017] According to one embodiment, the film bag is glued to the head part.

[0018] According to one embodiment, the head part is molded onto the film bag. In other words, the film bag can be molded onto the head part, regardless of whether it is to be fixed to the head part on the outside or inside.

[0019] In principle, the rigid head section can be connected to the flexible film bag by gluing, shrinking, or welding. A mechanical connection using a clip or clamp—with or without a ring—is also conceivable.

[0020] According to one embodiment, the film bag has at least one coating on an inner and / or outer side. For example, it may be advantageous for the film bag to have a non-stick coating on the inside to facilitate optimal emptying of the film bag during use. It may also be necessary to prevent the contents of the film bag from reacting with the materials of the film bag itself.

[0021] According to one embodiment, the film bag is formed from at least two, in particular several, layers, in particular an inner layer and an outer layer. It should be noted that the inner layer is the innermost layer of the film bag, and the outer layer is the outermost layer of the film bag. If additional layers are arranged in between, these are each intermediate layers. According to one embodiment, the at least two layers are formed from different materials. Thus, the film bag can be optimally adapted for its subsequent application.

[0022] According to one embodiment, the layers each have a thickness between 4 and 100 pm.

[0023] According to one embodiment, the at least two layers have different thicknesses. The exact thickness of each layer can vary depending on the application and can be selected accordingly.

[0024] According to one embodiment, at least one layer of the foil bag contains aluminum.

[0025] According to one embodiment, the at least two layers are connected to one another by at least one composite film. In particular, all existing layers can be connected to one another by a composite film.

[0026] According to one embodiment, the film bag has a third layer which is arranged between the inner layer and the outer layer, and wherein in particular the third layer comprises aluminum.

[0027] To minimize permeation, particularly oxygen permeation and water vapor permeation, of the film bag, the film bag can have a further layer, which is arranged in particular between the inner layer and the outer layer, comprising ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH). This layer, which comprises or consists of the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer, can be arranged between the inner layer and the outer layer. Preferably, the layer with or made of ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer is arranged directly adjacent to the outer layer and / or directly adjacent to the inner layer.

[0028] According to one embodiment, the outer layer of the film bag is made of the same material as the rigid head part. This allows the outer layer to be easily joined to the rigid front part by injection molding.

[0029] According to a further embodiment, the inner layer of the film bag comprises a plastic, in particular a thermoplastic. This improves the recyclability of the film bag while simultaneously simplifying its production.

[0030] According to one embodiment, the inner layer of the film bag comprises the same material as the rigid head part. Preferably, the inner layer and the outer layer of the film bag comprise the same material as the rigid head part.

[0031] According to a further embodiment, the inner layer of the film bag is made of the same material as a part of the rigid head part connected to the film bag.

[0032] This makes it even easier to connect the film bag to the rigid head section using injection molding.

[0033] According to one embodiment, the inner layer has a Shore D hardness between 40 and 99, in particular between 40 and 60.

[0034] The inner layer of the film bag can be made of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, polyethylene terephthalate, or polybutylene terephthalate, for example. The inner layer can be made of polyamide in the form of PA-6 or PA-66, for example. Polyamide has the advantage of high mechanical stability, and this stability can be further increased by stretching. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), on the other hand, is cost-effective and has good chemical resistance.

[0035] According to a further embodiment, the outer layer of the film bag comprises a plastic, in particular a thermoplastic.

[0036] According to one embodiment, the outer layer has a Shore D hardness between 40 and 99, in particular between 40 and 60.

[0037] The outer layer of the film bag is advantageously made of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, polyethylene terephthalate, or polybutylene terephthalate. The outer layer can, for example, comprise polyamide in the form of PA-6 or PA-66.

[0038] According to yet another embodiment, the rigid head part comprises a plastic, in particular a thermoplastic.

[0039] In particular, the rigid head part has a Shore D hardness between 40 and 99, in particular between 40 and 60.

[0040] Advantageously, the rigid head part can be made of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, polyethylene terephthalate, or polybutylene terephthalate. The rigid front part can, for example, comprise polyamide in the form of PA-6 or PA-66. Polyamide has the advantage of high mechanical stability and is therefore well suited for the rigid front part. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) could also be used for the rigid front part. PET is easy to process and has high chemical resistance. According to one embodiment, the rigid head part is made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), wherein high-density polyethylene (HDPE) has a density in the range of 930 kg / m 3 up to 970 kg / m 3 has.

[0041] According to one embodiment, the film bag is sealed by a welded seam at a rear end remote from the rigid head portion. The shape of the rear end can be dome-shaped or conical, for example. Generally, the rear end of the film bag can taper continuously. Alternatively, the film bag can have a substantially flat rear side.

[0042] According to one embodiment, the film bag is closed by a clip at a rear end remote from the rigid head portion. Such a clip can be made of plastic, for example.

[0043] According to one embodiment, the film bag is closed by means of an adhesive at a rear end remote from the rigid head part.

[0044] According to one embodiment, the film bag is rigid in the tensile direction. Thus, the film bag has a defined length when filled and can be safely inserted into a cartridge system.

[0045] Preferably, the film bag can withstand a tensile load of 50N to 80N in the axial direction. In other words, the film bag has a tensile strength of at least 50N in the axial direction. This prevents the film bag from tearing due to tensile load.

[0046] According to one embodiment, the film bag has a puncture resistance between 10 N and 20 N. The puncture resistance can be determined using the DIN EN 14477 standard, r=0.4 mm, for sharp objects or using the ASTM F 1306 standard for blunt objects. The puncture resistance can be in the range of 10 N to 20 N for at least one of the two test standards. Preferably, the puncture resistance is in the range of 10 N to 20 N for both test standards.

[0047] Preferably, the inner layer has a greater thickness than the outer layer. For example, the inner layer may have a thickness greater than 1.5 times that of the outer layer. Preferably, the inner layer has a thickness greater than twice that of the outer layer.

[0048] According to one embodiment, the inner layer has a minimum thickness of 50 μm to 90 μm. Preferably, the inner layer has a minimum thickness of 55 μm to 80 μm. The minimum thickness of the inner layer can be selected depending on the material used for the inner layer and the volume of the filler material.

[0049] According to one embodiment, the film bag has a total material thickness between 80 μm and 150 μm. The film thickness can be determined according to DIN EN ISO 4593. Preferably, the film bag has a total material thickness between 110 μm and 150 μm.

[0050] According to one embodiment, the film bag can have a total basis weight between 100 g / m 2 and 170 g / m 2 The total basis weight can be determined according to DIN EN ISO 2286-2. The film bag preferably has a total basis weight between 120 g / m 2 and 150 g / m 2 on.

[0051] According to one embodiment, the film bag has a water vapor permeability of at most 0.3 g / (m 2 xd), in particular not more than 0.2 g / (m 2 xd). The water vapor permeation is measured according to ISO 15106-3 (38°C / 90% RH). Preferably, the film bag has a water vapor permeation which, according to ISO 15106-3 (38°C / 90% RH), is in the no longer measurable lower range, ie close to 0 g / (m 2 xd), lies.

[0052] According to a further embodiment, the film bag has an oxygen permeation of at most 0.3 cm 3 / (m 2 x bar xd), in particular of not more than 0.2 cm 3 / (m 2 x bar xd). The oxygen permeation is measured according to the ASTM D3985 standard (23°C / 90% RH). The film bag preferably has an oxygen permeation which complies with the ASTM D3985 standard (23°C / 90% RH) in the no longer measurable lower range, ie close to 0 cm 3 / (m 2x bar xd).

[0053] According to one embodiment, the film bag has a wall thickness or film thickness of at least 60 μm. Preferably, the film bag has a wall thickness or film thickness of at least 80 μm. This ensures that the film bag has sufficient mechanical properties.

[0054] According to one embodiment, each of the layers of the film bag has a thickness of at least 4 μm, in particular at least 5 μm. However, any adhesion promoters that may be present between the layers and serve to bond the layers together are not considered a layer. Any adhesion promoters that may be present between the layers can have a thickness of less than 5 μm. Preferably, adhesion promoters are provided between layers of different materials and have a thickness of 5 μm or less.

[0055] According to one embodiment, an adhesion promoter is arranged between at least two layers of the film bag, bonding the two layers together. If the two layers are made of different materials, an adhesion promoter is advantageous, since layers made of different materials would otherwise be more difficult to bond.

[0056] According to one embodiment, the adhesion promoter has a thickness of 1 μm to 5 μm. The thickness of the adhesion promoter layer should not be less than 1 μm, as otherwise, due to tolerance fluctuations, no or too little adhesion promoter could be applied in some places. It has also been found that an adhesion promoter thickness of more than 5 μm does not result in any additional improvement in the adhesion between the layers of the film bag.

[0057] In this context, it should be noted that each of the layers of the film bag can have a thickness between 4 μm and 100 μm. In particular, each of the layers of the film bag can have a thickness between 5 μm and 70 μm. According to a specific embodiment, all layers of the film bag, except for the inner layer, have a thickness between 5 μm and 30 μm.

[0058] According to one embodiment, the at least one film bag has a substantially cylindrical outer shape. Alternatively or additionally, the at least one film bag has a weld seam in the axial direction. The weld seam can be designed as a fin seal. Alternatively, the weld seam can also be designed as an overlap seal.

[0059] According to one embodiment, the outer layer of the foil bag is connected to an inner wall of the front part. In other words, the outer layer of the foil bag is not only connected to the inner wall of the front part by linear contact, but over a width of at least 2 mm. For applications in the field of medical technology or for smaller jobs in the construction sector, it may be advantageous for the foil bag to have a volume in the range of 50 ml to 750 ml. Preferably, a foil bag has 100 ml, 200 ml, or 500 ml.

[0060] However, for larger projects, especially in the construction sector, it may be advantageous if the foil bag has a volume in the range of 750 ml to 5000 ml. For example, the at least one foil bag can have a volume of 1000 ml, 1250 ml, 1500 ml, 2500 ml, or 4000 ml.

[0061] To avoid cartridge mix-ups and to easily identify the contents of the foil pouch, a label indicating the contents of the foil pouch or cartridge can be printed on the outside of the foil pouch. This label is preferably applied to the foil pouch shortly before or after the foil pouch is infested. This minimizes errors when applying the label.

[0062] According to one embodiment, the head section has one or more stiffening ribs on a side facing away from the film bag. The ribs can, for example, extend over the side of the rigid head section facing away from the film bag. Thus, the ribs can be used to stabilize the area around the outlet opening, to better absorb forces transmitted to the head section during discharge, and to prevent deformation of the head section.

[0063] In this context, it should be noted that the one or more stiffening ribs can be arranged in the circumferential direction. Alternatively or additionally, the plurality of stiffening ribs can also extend radially from a central axis of the film cartridge.

[0064] In any case, the stiffening ribs can increase the stability of the headboard so that the headboard can withstand the pressures that arise when the fluid is forced out of the headboard.

[0065] According to one embodiment, the head part is essentially dome-shaped. Advantageously, the stiffening ribs can be arranged on the dome. A dome-shaped design has proven particularly advantageous for both visual and haptic reasons. Furthermore, such a design allows for optimal emptying of the foil cartridge.

[0066] According to one embodiment, the head part has at least one wing, which is arranged in particular on the dome. Such a wing can serve as a handle for the foil cartridge, allowing a user to easily screw the foil bag onto and off the support sleeve.

[0067] The wing can be larger than at least one of the one or more stiffening ribs. This ensures that the user can operate the wings without the stiffening ribs being obstructive.

[0068] According to another embodiment, the wing has a height that is greater than a height of at least one of the one or more stiffening ribs. This means that the wing can be higher than the stiffening ribs, allowing the user to easily grasp it.

[0069] According to one embodiment, the wing has at least substantially the same thickness, in particular exactly the same thickness, as the one or more stiffening ribs. In this context, the term "substantially the same" is to be understood such that the thickness of the wing does not differ by more than + / - 5% from the thickness of the stiffening ribs.

[0070] In particular, a design with exactly the same thickness of wings and stiffening ribs has proven to be particularly simple and cost-effective to manufacture.

[0071] According to one embodiment, the head part has a circumferentially arranged web region that extends over a front end of the film bag facing the head part. Such a web can serve, for example, as a stop for a support sleeve when these two parts are connected to each other.

[0072] According to a further embodiment, the head part has at least one alignment element designed to align the head part with respect to a support sleeve. The alignment element can be designed in various ways, as long as it is capable of aligning the head part with a support sleeve. For example, it can be a marking, a projection, a recess, or the like, which must be placed in a specific position on the support sleeve in order to properly align the head part. In principle, other designs for the alignment element are also possible.

[0073] The alignment element can also be provided radially outward on the head part. With such a position of the alignment element on the head part, the alignment element is arranged such that, when the film cartridge is inserted into a support sleeve, it is provided as close as possible to the support sleeve in order to facilitate the alignment of the head part. In this context, it can also be provided that the alignment element is arranged on the web area.

[0074] In particular, it is also possible for the alignment element to be arranged at the front, i.e., toward the outlet on the headpiece. Such an orientation can facilitate handling for a user, as the alignment element can be easily seen when aligning the headpiece with a support sleeve.

[0075] According to a further embodiment, the alignment element is arranged in the region of at least one radial stiffening rib.

[0076] According to an alternative embodiment, the alignment element is arranged in the region of at least one wing, preferably between two wings.

[0077] According to a further embodiment, the head part has at least one alignment projection which is designed to align the head part at a predetermined angle with respect to a support sleeve.

[0078] For this purpose, the alignment projection can be arranged on a side of the head part facing the foil bag, so that it is aligned in the direction of the support sleeve even when the foil cartridge is connected to a support sleeve.

[0079] It would also be conceivable for the alignment projection to be located in the web area. Accordingly, the alignment projection would be located in the radially outer region of the head part, where the support sleeve frequently comes into contact with the head part.

[0080] According to one embodiment, the outlet opening of the head part has a substantially constant cross-section. According to another embodiment, the outlet opening has an internal thread to which an outlet nozzle can be attached.

[0081] According to an alternative embodiment, the outlet opening has an external thread to which an outlet nozzle can be attached.

[0082] In principle, outlet nozzles can be used to better and more precisely dose the fluid contained in the cartridge.

[0083] According to a further embodiment, the outlet opening is sealed with a membrane when the foil bag is filled, which can be penetrated, in particular, by the outlet nozzle. Sealing the outlet opening primarily serves to ensure that the foil cartridge can be stored and transported without leakage. In particular, the fluid in the cartridge may react with oxygen, requiring storage in a protective atmosphere. By sealing the outlet opening, reaction with oxygen can be prevented until use.

[0084] According to one embodiment, the outlet opening is arranged on a side of the dome of the head part facing away from the film bag.

[0085] According to a further embodiment, the head part has an outlet region in which the outlet opening is formed and which extends along a central axis of the film cartridge. In other words, the outlet opening can be configured in a region of the head part that protrudes along the central axis. This can optimize the dosing of the fluid. Furthermore, it can also be made easier to attach an additional outlet nozzle to the head part. The outlet region can be essentially tubular and, at least in some regions, have a wall thickness of between 0.5 and 1.5 mm. This achieves a good compromise between sufficient stability and material costs.

[0086] The outlet area can also have a length between 5 mm and 40 mm, especially between 20 and 30 mm. The outlet area should be as short as possible to allow the film bag to be completely emptied, but still offer sufficient length to attach a spout, for example.

[0087] The invention further provides a support sleeve for holding or supporting a foil cartridge according to the invention, wherein the support sleeve may further have an internal thread that corresponds to the external thread of the foil cartridge.

[0088] According to one embodiment, the support sleeve is made of metal, in particular aluminum, and / or plastic. Such materials enable relatively quick and cost-effective production while simultaneously achieving the desired rigidity of the support sleeve.

[0089] According to one embodiment, the support sleeve is formed in one piece.

[0090] According to an alternative embodiment, the support sleeve is constructed in multiple parts. For example, a front and a rear part can be produced independently of each other and then assembled to form the support sleeve at a later time. In this case, it is possible for the support sleeve to have at least one, in particular several, connection points for connecting the various parts of the support sleeve to one another.

[0091] The at least one connection point can be designed as a thread, a bayonet connection, or a snap lock. This allows the various parts of the support sleeve to be detachably connected to one another.

[0092] According to one embodiment, the support sleeve comprises an inner sleeve and an outer sleeve. The inner sleeve can serve, for example, to hold the outer sleeve. Furthermore, such a design can provide better protection for the foil cartridge.

[0093] According to one embodiment, the inner sleeve is movably, in particular slidably, arranged within the outer sleeve. For example, it may be possible for the outer sleeve to be connected to the head part, while the inner sleeve merely serves to protect the foil cartridge.

[0094] According to a further embodiment, the internal thread is a multi-start thread, in particular a two-start thread.

[0095] According to yet another embodiment, the support sleeve further comprises at least one alignment member which is designed to align the support sleeve with respect to the head part at a predetermined angle.

[0096] The alignment member can further be configured to cooperate with an alignment element. This means that the alignment member can, for example, be configured to correspond with or cooperate with the alignment element of the film cartridge to align the head part and the support sleeve.

[0097] According to a further embodiment, the support sleeve comprises an alignment recess designed to align the support sleeve at a predetermined angle to the head part. The alignment recess can act in support of the alignment member. Furthermore, the alignment recess can also be designed to fix the support sleeve relative to the head part when they are aligned accordingly.

[0098] According to yet another embodiment, the alignment recess is designed to cooperate with the alignment projection of the head part. This means that the alignment recess can be designed such that the alignment projection of the head part can engage or penetrate into the alignment recess of the support sleeve in order to align or, if necessary, also fix the support sleeve relative to the head part.

[0099] It can also be provided that the alignment recess comprises a retaining projection configured to fix the head part to the support sleeve in the circumferential direction. This retaining projection can, for example, be configured and positioned such that, when the head part is aligned as desired relative to the support sleeve, the alignment projection of the head part is radially held and thus fixed by the retaining projection.

[0100] In a further embodiment, the support sleeve further comprises at least one vent hole located in an area adjacent to the internal thread. For example, air located within the support sleeve can escape through the at least one vent hole when a piston is moved toward the head portion of the film cartridge. Furthermore, in some embodiments, the support sleeve can also comprise a stop collar in the area of the internal thread, which is designed to provide a stop surface for a piston.

[0101] It is also conceivable for the stop collar to extend circumferentially, in particular completely, around an inner surface of the support sleeve. The stop collar can extend either completely around the inner surface of the support sleeve or only partially, so that the stop collar can also be formed from one or more stop segments.

[0102] The invention further provides a cartridge system comprising at least one foil cartridge according to the invention, a support sleeve according to the invention, and a piston. The piston and the foil cartridge are arranged in a receiving area of the support sleeve, and the foil cartridge is screwed to the internal thread of the support sleeve via its external thread, so that a portion of the support sleeve covers a portion of the head portion of the foil cartridge. The support sleeve further comprises at least one radial pin, which is arranged at an end of the support sleeve facing away from the head portion of the foil cartridge, in order to fasten the support sleeve, in particular detachably, to a dispensing system.

[0103] According to one embodiment, the at least one radial pin is mushroom-shaped. In particular, the radial pin can be mushroom-shaped in a side view. Radial pins with a head portion and a cylindrical portion can be advantageous, for example, when the support sleeve is to be fixed to a discharge system, since the special mushroom-shaped design optimizes the guidance of the radial pin in a corresponding recess.

[0104] In this context, it is also possible that the radial pin is designed to cooperate with corresponding counter-elements, in particular recesses, on the discharge system, so that the support sleeve is firmly attached to the discharge system.

[0105] According to a further embodiment, the cartridge system further comprises a protective ring designed to be attached to the support sleeve. The protective ring protects against accidental activation of a release button or lever of a dispensing device. For this purpose, the protective ring can be moved under a trigger of a dispenser, i.e., a dispensing device, so that the release button or lever cannot be moved toward the dispensing device.

[0106] Alternatively, it may also be possible to place the trigger under the protective ring to ensure consistent triggering and thus consistent material discharge. For this purpose, the protective ring can, for example, have one or more recesses under which the trigger can be moved.

[0107] In the case of multiple bulges, these can have different heights, corresponding to different trigger positions. Different trigger positions can, for example, correspond to different discharge speeds or pressures.

[0108] It is also possible for the protective ring to be arranged on the support sleeve so that it can be moved axially, thus making it possible to move the protective ring above or below the trigger or away from it.

[0109] Furthermore, the protective ring can also be mounted on the support sleeve so that it can be rotated radially in the circumferential direction and thus brought into different positions. This can be advantageous, for example, if the protective ring has various protrusions. The radial rotatability allows the protective ring to be easily rotated into the desired position relative to the trigger.

[0110] The protective ring can further comprise at least one support by means of which the support sleeve can be held. This has the advantage, for example, that the support of the protective ring can hold the support sleeve in an at least substantially horizontal position, thus preventing unwanted leakage of material from the outlet opening.

[0111] According to a further embodiment, the protective ring, as already mentioned above, can have at least one bulge which is designed to cooperate with a trigger.

[0112] Furthermore, it can also be provided that the protective ring has a plurality of bulges, which in particular have different heights, wherein the bulges are designed to cooperate with the trigger.

[0113] According to yet another embodiment, the piston can have a circumferential annular projection designed to receive the compressed film bag. The annular projection can, for example, serve to receive those parts of the film bag that have already been emptied, so that the film bag can ideally be emptied completely, or at least almost completely.

[0114] Furthermore, the piston can also have a substantially dome-shaped central portion designed to compress the film bag toward the head portion. The head portion can have a shape complementary to the piston. It has been shown that film cartridges with dome-shaped pistons or head portions can be emptied more effectively, so that less residual material remains inside the film bag. Accordingly, a dome-shaped configuration can contribute to improved emptying of the film cartridge.

[0115] According to a further embodiment, the film cartridge and / or the support sleeve may have an additional sealing element which is designed to provide a reliable seal between the film cartridge and / or the support sleeve and the dispensing device.

[0116] Such a sealing element can, for example, be in the form of an O-ring, a flat seal and / or another material component on the support sleeve and / or the foil cartridge.

[0117] The invention also relates to a dispensing device with a cartridge system according to the invention, further comprising a trigger for triggering an axial movement of the piston and a protective ring which is designed to prevent triggering of the trigger and / or to ensure constant triggering of the trigger and / or to hold the dispensing device in an at least substantially horizontal position in order to prevent leakage of material when the trigger is not triggered.

[0136] Fig. 1 shows a film cartridge 10 according to the invention, which can be filled with at least one fluid. The film cartridge 10 comprises a film bag 12 as a cartridge shell and furthermore a rigid head part 14, which is shown at the top of the figure. The head part 14 has an outlet opening 16 through which the fluid can flow when the film cartridge 10 is emptied. Furthermore, the head part 14 comprises an external thread 18, which is designed to cooperate with a corresponding internal thread 102 of a support sleeve 100, thereby securing the film cartridge 10 to the support sleeve 100.

[0137] The film bag 12 can be attached to the head part 14 in two different ways. On the one hand, it is possible for the film bag 12 to enclose the head part 14 from the outside, so that a part of the film bag 12 rests positively against the external thread 18 and, so to speak, envelops it (see Fig. 1). On the other hand, it is also fundamentally possible for the film bag 12 to rest from the inside against an inner surface (not shown) of the head part 14 and be glued or molded onto the head part 14, for example.

[0138] Regardless of whether the foil bag 12 is attached to the outside or inside of the head part 14, various attachment methods are conceivable. The foil bag 12 can therefore be glued or molded to the head part 14. Other attachment methods are also conceivable.

[0139] In Figures 1 and 4 to 7, it can also be seen in particular that the film bag 12 forms folds 20 in the area where it is attached to the head part 14. This is often a sign—especially in the case of a film bag 12 that is attached externally above the external thread 18—that the film bag 12 is being tensioned in this area in order to achieve a good seal between the film bag 12 and the head part 14.

[0140] As can be seen in Figures 1, 8, and 9, the foil bag 12 has a substantially cylindrical shape. In this context, it should be noted that the figures show the foil bag in an expanded—i.e., filled—state. Due to its flexibility, the foil bag 12 can be folded or compressed in the empty state, thus making it significantly smaller. This has proven particularly advantageous for the storage and transport of empty foil cartridges 10.

[0141] The foil bag 12 can be either formed as a single piece on its lower side (as viewed in Figure 1) (see in particular the bottom view in Figure 2) or closed by a seam, adhesive, clip, or similar means. This can be freely selected depending on the application and preferences.

[0142] In this context, it should also be mentioned that the film bag 12 can also have at least one seam along its longitudinal axis M, along which it is closed.

[0143] It is also possible for the film bag 12 to be formed from two or more layers, in particular an outer layer and an inner layer, which are bonded together by a composite film or an adhesive. However, this is not further illustrated in the figures, as it is already known how multi-layer film bags 12 can be produced.

[0144] The length and diameter of the foil bag 12 (and thus indirectly also of the head section 14) can be selected to suit the application. In principle, there are no limits here.

[0145] In the following, the head part 14 will be discussed in more detail, which is shown in detail in Figures 3 to 7.

[0146] The head part 14 is made of a rigid material such as plastic and / or metal.

[0147] As already mentioned above, the head part 14 has an external thread 18 in the area where it is connected to the foil bag 12. This thread serves to secure the foil cartridge 10 to an internal thread of a support sleeve 100. The support sleeve 100 will be discussed in more detail below. The external thread 18 can be designed as a multi-start thread, in particular as a double-start thread.

[0148] Above the external thread 18, the head part 14 also has a web region 22, which extends circumferentially around the entire head part 14. The web region 22 increases the diameter of the head part 14 to such an extent that it protrudes beyond the external thread 18 and thus serves as a stop 24 when the foil cartridge 10 is attached to the support sleeve 100. This can be clearly seen in Fig. 7.

[0149] Furthermore, the head part 14 has a dome-shaped bulge 26, which is formed on a side of the head part 14 facing away from the film bag 12. Since comparatively high pressures can act on the head part 14 when the film cartridge 10 is emptied, a dome-shaped design has proven advantageous in order to be able to distribute the resulting pressure evenly over the surface of the head part 14. Furthermore, the film bag 12 can be emptied more effectively overall with such a design, since the fluid contained therein always flows towards the outlet opening 16 when pressure is exerted on the film cartridge 10 from behind.

[0150] To further reinforce the head part 14, a plurality of stiffening ribs 28 are formed, particularly in the area of the dome 26. The stiffening ribs 28 can be arranged both circumferentially and radially, as can be seen particularly in Figures 1, 3, and 6. In any case, the stiffening ribs 28 serve to absorb the pressure acting on the head part 14 and to distribute it more effectively.

[0151] In the radial direction, starting from the outlet opening 16, two wings 30 are also arranged, which are designed to be actuated by a user in order to screw the film cartridge 10 onto the support sleeve 100 or to remove it from the support sleeve 100. The wings 30 generally have a greater height, in particular a larger area, than, for example, the radially arranged stiffening ribs 28. As a result, the wings 30 protrude further from the head part 14 or the dome 26, so that a user can easily grasp and actuate the wings 30.

[0152] In some embodiments, however, the wings 30 have the same or substantially the same thickness as the stiffening ribs 28. This means that the thicknesses of the wings 30 and the stiffening ribs 28 do not differ from one another by more than 5%. Such a configuration has proven particularly advantageous, particularly with regard to efficient and cost-effective production. The exact number of wings 30 and stiffening ribs 28 can be freely selected as required. Thus, for film cartridges 10 with a larger total volume, it is possible, for example, for the head part 14 to have more stiffening ribs 28 than a film cartridge 10 with a smaller volume.

[0153] Furthermore, an outlet region 32 is formed in the head portion 14, extending along a central axis M of the foil cartridge 10. This outlet region 32 has an internal thread 34 (see Fig. 7), to which, for example, a discharge nozzle (not shown) can be attached to ensure precise dosing of the fluid. It would also be possible for the outlet region 32 to have an external thread to which such a nozzle can be attached.

[0154] The size or height of the outlet area 32 can be freely selected and designed accordingly, depending on the application. Here, too, it may be possible to attach larger outlet nozzles to larger foil cartridges 10, which may require a longer thread than smaller versions.

[0155] In the embodiment shown, the outlet area 32 extends parallel to the central axis M. In principle, however, it is also possible for the outlet area 32 and thus also the outlet opening 16 not to be arranged centrally on the head part 14, but at an angle to the central axis M. This can be particularly advantageous if the film cartridge 10 is to be used in dispensing systems which are suitable, for example, for reaching corners and angles.

[0156] The wall thickness of the outlet area 32 can also vary or be freely selected. In most embodiments, however, this is in a range between 0.5 and 1.5 mm. Furthermore, it is also possible for the outlet area 32 or the outlet opening 16 for the storage or transport of the film cartridges 10 to be sealed with a membrane (not shown), which can then be pierced and thus opened as needed—for example, by attaching an outlet nozzle.

[0157] Fig. 10 further shows that the head part 14 can have at least one alignment element 36, which in the illustrated embodiment is an arrow molded onto the web region 22. Matching this, the support sleeve 100 also has an alignment member 110, which in this case is also a molded arrow. Thus, a user can clearly see how the head part 14 is or should be aligned with respect to the support sleeve 100 by aligning the alignment element 36 on the alignment member 110.

[0158] In principle, it is also possible for both the alignment element 36 and the alignment member 110 to be designed differently, as long as they allow easy adjustment of the head part 14 relative to the support sleeve.

[0159] In addition, it may also be possible for both the head part 14 and the support sleeve 100 to have more than one alignment element 36 or alignment member 110 and / or for them to be arranged at a different location on the head part 14 or on the support sleeve.

[0160] The appropriate number or position of the alignment element 36 or the alignment member 110 can therefore vary as required.

[0161] Fig. 11 shows sections showing the connection of the head part 14 to the support sleeve 100. In the embodiment shown, the head part 14 or the support sleeve 100 not only has an alignment element 36 or an alignment member 110 for this purpose, but also an alignment projection 38 or an alignment recess 112, which are designed to ensure correct alignment of the head part 14 relative to the support sleeve or to act in addition to the alignment element 36 or the alignment member 110.

[0162] That is, for aligning the head part 14 relative to the support sleeve 100, the alignment projection 38 and the alignment recess 112 can be arranged such that the alignment projection 38 can engage in the alignment recess 112.

[0163] It is therefore also possible in principle for only the alignment projection 38 and the alignment recess 112 to be provided, i.e. without the alignment element 36 and the alignment member 110. However, all four components for aligning the head part 14 relative to the support sleeve can also be provided.

[0164] In addition, it can also be provided that - as shown in Fig. 11 - the alignment recess 112 additionally has a holding projection 114 which is arranged such that, when correctly aligned, the head part 14 is fixed in the circumferential direction relative to the support sleeve 100.

[0165] In Fig. 11 it can be clearly seen that the alignment projection 38 must slide over the retaining projection 114 when the head part 14 is connected to the support sleeve 100 in order to finally come to rest behind the retaining projection 114, so that the retaining projection 114 serves as a fixation that prevents the head part 14 from being easily unscrewed from the support sleeve 100. This is then only possible with the application of greater force, so that the provision of the retaining projection 114 can ensure a certain form of fixation. In addition, this movement via the retaining projection 114 can cause a clicking noise, which signals to the user that the head part 14 and the support sleeve 100 are locked together and thus connected.

[0166] Furthermore, Fig. 12 and 19 show a piston 200 which is designed to discharge the contents of the film bag 12 from the outlet opening 16 of the head part 14 by pressing against the film bag 12 from behind along the longitudinal axis M. This is usually done by a discharge device 300, as shown, for example, in part in Fig. 18.

[0167] The piston 200 can have a dome-shaped central portion 202 and a circumferential annular projection 204. As can also be seen in Fig. 19 (left side), an outer wall 205 of the annular projection 204 can be interrupted by slots S. Alternatively, however, it is also possible for the outer wall 205 to be continuous and thus have no slots S. Depending on the application, it is generally possible to freely decide which type of piston 200, i.e., with or without slots S, should be used.

[0168] The dome-shaped design of the piston 200, for example, ensures that almost the entire contents of the foil bag 12 can be emptied. For this purpose, the head part 14 can also be designed to complement the design, so that the central part 202 of the piston 200 can engage with a matching dome-shaped head part 14, with the outlet opening 16 then being located in the region of the dome of the head part 14.

[0169] The annular projection 204 can serve to catch those portions of the foil bag 12 that have already been emptied, preventing them from becoming trapped between the piston 200 and the support sleeve 100 or, alternatively, from folding to such an extent that the entire contents of the foil bag cannot be emptied. Furthermore, the annular projection 204 can also be that portion of the piston 200 that abuts a stop collar 118 of the support sleeve 100 when the front end of the support sleeve 100 is reached (see Fig. 12 and description below).

[0170] The piston 200 also has the function of sealing the support sleeve 100 at a rear end so that the foil cartridge can be effectively emptied by the piston movement forward.

[0171] This sealing can be achieved in a variety of ways. An example is shown in Fig. 12, where the piston 200 has an additional sealing device 214 in the form of an O-ring. The O-ring 214 is arranged such that, when the piston 200 is inserted into the support sleeve 100, it carefully seals it.

[0172] Such additional sealing devices 214 are generally used when the piston 200 itself is made of a hard material such as POM.

[0173] An alternative possibility for implementing the sealing function of the piston 200 in the support sleeve 100 is shown in Fig. 19. Here, the piston 200 does not have an additional sealing device 214, although it is nevertheless designed to seal the support sleeve 100 from the inside.

[0174] This is achieved in the illustrated embodiment by the piston 200 itself being made of a soft material such as LPDE, HDPE, or PP, and the dimensions of the piston 200 being selected such that an effective seal is created between the piston 200 and the support sleeve 100. For this purpose, the piston 200 can also have a sealing lip 216 at its rear end (bottom end in Fig. 19), which is designed to ensure a seal between the piston 200 and the support sleeve 100.

[0175] The following will now address the support sleeve 100, which is illustrated by way of example in Figures 13 to 17. In the illustrated embodiment, the support sleeve 100 is formed in one piece, which enables particularly simple and cost-effective production.

[0176] In principle, however, it is also possible for the support sleeve 100 to consist, for example, of an inner sleeve and an outer sleeve.

[0177] Furthermore, it would also be conceivable for the support sleeve 100 to be composed of several parts along the central axis M, which can be releasably connected to one another via connection points, for example in the form of screw, click or snap connections.

[0178] In an upper region of the support sleeve 100, an internal thread 102 is provided, which is complementary to the external thread 18 of the foil cartridge 10. This means that the internal thread 102 of the support sleeve 100 is also designed as a multi-start, in particular a double-start, thread.

[0179] Accordingly, the film cartridge 10 can be received in a receiving area 101 of the support sleeve 100 and screwed tightly onto the internal thread 102, so that the support sleeve 102 protectively surrounds at least the entire film bag 12 as well as parts of the head part 14.

[0180] The head part 14 of the foil cartridge protrudes at least partially from the support sleeve, as can be clearly seen, for example, in the sectional view of Fig. 7, since its web region 22 rests on a front end surface 104 of the support sleeve 100.

[0181] The front region 106 of the support sleeve may also have a larger diameter than the rest of the support sleeve 100 so that the head part 14 of the foil cartridge 10 can be better accommodated therein.

[0182] Overall, the support sleeve 100 is essentially cylindrical in shape, so that its diameter changes little to not at all along the central axis M.

[0183] In principle, however, it would also be possible for the shape of the support sleeve 100 to be adapted to the shape of the film bag 12 and for the diameter to taper slightly downwards, for example.

[0184] At least one, in particular several, radial pins 108 are provided at a lower end of the support sleeve 100. These are designed to interact with corresponding recesses of a dispensing system (not shown) to thereby secure the support sleeve 100, including the film cartridge 10, to the dispensing system.

[0185] The radial pins 108 can, for example, be cylindrical, as shown in the figures. In other advantageous embodiments, they can also have a mushroom-shaped or even round cross-section. The exact shape can be selected depending on the application or fixation method.

[0186] Furthermore, a sealing element 218 (see Fig. 21 ) can be provided at the lowermost end of the support sleeve 100, which is designed to provide a reliable seal between the support sleeve 100 and the discharge device. Such a sealing element 218 can, for example, be in the form of a sealing ring (O-ring) or a flat gasket (see Fig. 21 ). It may be possible for the sealing element 218 to be glued to the support sleeve 100. Alternatively, it would also be possible for the sealing element 218 to be firmly connected to the support sleeve 100 by a (two-component) injection molding process.

[0187] The support sleeve 100 may also have at least one ventilation hole 116, as can be seen, for example, in Fig. 12, where the support sleeve 100 even has two ventilation holes 116. The ventilation holes 116 serve to allow air located between the film bag 12 and the support sleeve 100 to escape when the piston 200 presses the film bag 12 forward toward the head part 14.

[0188] In addition, the support sleeve 100 can have a stop collar 118, which is arranged in the region of the internal thread 102 and serves as a stop surface for the piston 200. Such a stop collar 118 is shown, for example, in Fig. 12.

[0189] The stop collar 118 can either extend continuously along the entire inner circumference of the support sleeve 100 or only partially, so that the stop collar 118 consists, for example, of a plurality of individual stop segments 118' or only a single stop segment 118' (see Fig. 20).

[0190] To use the foil cartridge 10, it is screwed onto the support sleeve 100 via its head portion 14, so that the foil bag 12 is received in the receiving area 101 of the support sleeve 100. This system is then secured via the radial pins 108 to a discharge system (not shown). Known discharge systems typically include a piston 200 (see Figs. 12 and 19), which, during use, presses against the foil bag 12 from behind to compress it and subsequently empty it.

[0191] For this emptying process, a thread 34 can additionally be provided at the front of the outlet opening 16 or at the receiving area 32 of the head part 14, to which a discharge nozzle (not shown) can be attached.

[0192] By providing a thread (external thread 18 or internal thread 102) for attaching the foil cartridge 10 to the support sleeve 100, a simple and quick replacement of an empty foil cartridge 10 can be ensured. Furthermore, it is also possible to replace the foil cartridge 10 without removing the support sleeve 100 from the dispensing system, since the foil cartridge 10 can be inserted from the front into the receiving area 101 of the support sleeve.

[0193] Additionally, a protective ring 206 may be provided, which may be attached to the support sleeve 100 to prevent accidental activation of a trigger 302 of a dispensing device 300 or to ensure consistent activation of the trigger 302. For the latter function, the protective ring 206 may have one or more protrusions 208, as described in more detail below.

[0194] This can be advantageous, for example, in pneumatic dispensing devices 300, as shown schematically in Fig. 18. Such dispensing devices 300 typically comprise a trigger 302 for initiating a movement of the piston 200 along the longitudinal axis M in the direction of the outlet opening 16 of the film cartridge 10. The pressure built up in the pneumatic dispensing device can thereby press the piston 200, which is arranged in the support sleeve 100, against the rear end of the film cartridge 10, so that the material located in the film cartridge 10 is dispensed from the outlet opening. The movement of the piston 200 can, for example, be effected by pneumatic actuation by attaching a compressed air hose (not shown) to the rear end of the dispensing device 300, whereby the piston 200 can be pressurized with compressed air.For this purpose, the compressed air hose is connected to an external pneumatic device (also not shown).

[0195] To prevent the trigger 302 from inadvertently triggering the discharge of the material, the protective ring 206 can be pushed under a lever 304 of the trigger 302. The protective ring 206 can thus be placed between the lever 306 and the support sleeve 100 to thereby prevent the trigger 302 from triggering the pneumatic device.

[0196] However, in order to ensure a constant discharge of material by continuously triggering the trigger 302, the protective ring 206 can - as already mentioned above - have one or more bulges 208 which are designed such that the lever 306 of the trigger 302 can be clamped underneath in order to be permanently held in a triggering position.

[0197] For this purpose, the protrusions 208 can also have different heights, which can correspond to different lever positions. In the pneumatic dispensing devices 300 described above, different lever positions can, for example, correspond to different pressures, which result in more or less material being dispensed from the film cartridge 10.

[0198] In addition, the protective ring 206 can also have a stabilizing projection 210, i.e. a support, with one or more legs 212, which is designed such that it can hold the film cartridge 10 in an at least horizontal, in particular slightly inclined, position relative to a storage surface when the film cartridge 10 is placed on the storage surface, so that the outlet opening 16 is aligned at least horizontally, in particular pointing slightly upwards, in order to prevent material from running out of the film cartridge 10 when the discharge device 300 or the film cartridge 10 is not in use.

[0199] The protective ring 206 can therefore have up to three different functions: stabilization of the film cartridge 10 when not in use, constant triggering of the trigger 302 of a dispensing device 300 and / or preventing the triggering of the trigger 302 of a dispensing device 300.
