Abstract
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to a device for flameless explosion pressure relief.
[0002] A device for flameless explosion venting is currently being marketed by the applicant under the name Q-Box II. The Q-Box II is reliable and has proven itself over many years of use. The Q-Box II has a welded frame formed by the side walls and the connecting parts, which are joined together by welding. The side walls are roughly in the shape of a quarter circle. This results in the Q-Box as a whole being roughly in the shape of a right cylinder with the base area of a quarter circle. This cylinder has a curved side formed by the outer bars, the outer round arches, and filter mats. The rear of the Q-Box is closed off by a wall that connects to the filter mats and the side walls. The last side of the Q-Box is closed off by an explosion venting device, usually a rectangular bursting disc. The Q-Box can be connected to a container or pipe. If an explosion occurs in the container or pipe, the explosion venting device opens due to the pressure increase, allowing the hot, possibly burning gases inside the container or pipe to flow through the opened explosion venting device into the interior of the Q-Box. From there, the gases can escape through the filter mats into the surrounding atmosphere. This cools the gases and extinguishes flames, so that little or no hot gas or flames can escape from the Q-Box.
[0003] The Q-Box II is complex to manufacture, particularly due to the welding involved. Furthermore, the venting area through which gases can escape into the atmosphere is small compared to the corresponding explosion venting device in the Q-Box, primarily because no gases can escape through the closed rear wall.
[0004] Another flameless pressure venting device is marketed by IEP Technologies GmbH under the designation IV8. However, the applicant has no definitive information about its design. All that is known is that the venting surface, through which gases can escape into the atmosphere, is larger than that of the Q-Box compared to the surface area of the correspondingly mounted explosion venting device.
[0005] The inventors were tasked with proposing a new device for flameless explosion venting based on the Q-Box, which would have a higher venting effectiveness than the Q-Box II.
[0006] This object is achieved by a device according to the invention for flameless explosion pressure relief, which has the features listed in claim 1. Accordingly, the pressure relief device according to the invention has the following features: a. a first side wall and a second side wall, which are arranged opposite one another at a distance from one another, each forming a side surface whose edge has a first straight section and an arcuate section, the straight section being opposite the arcuate section, b. a first connecting part and a second connecting part, which are arranged between the side walls, opposite one another and at a distance from one another, and which each have two ends, a first end in each case being connected to the first side wall and a second end in each case being connected to the second side wall, and the connection between the ends of the connecting parts and the side walls being made in the region of the ends of the arcuate sections of the edge of the side surface, c.outer bars which directly or indirectly connect the inner sides of the side walls to one another, wherein for this purpose the direct or indirect connection between the ends of the outer bars and the side walls is established in the region of the curved section of the edge of each of the side walls, d. outer round arches whose arch shape corresponds to the curved section of the edge of the side walls, wherein the round arches have a first end and a second end, wherein the first ends are fastened to the first connecting part and the second ends are fastened to the second connecting part, e. at least one curved filter mat or a curved assembly with filter mats which rests from the inside on the outer bars and the outer round arch and encloses an inner space of the device, wherein heat is extracted from a gas flowing outwards from the inner space through the filter mat or the assembly with filter mats, so that if necessary.a gas fire is extinguished, and f. a bursting disc that closes an opening between the straight sections of the edge of the side walls and the connecting parts.
[0007] Unlike a device according to the invention, the Q-Box has side walls with side surfaces whose edge has two mutually perpendicular straight sections of (almost) equal length. Furthermore, the Q-Box has an arcuate section, which in the case of the Q-Box is circular in shape and extends over an angular range of 90°. The straight section of the edge of the side surface, to which the first flange adjoins, is not opposite the arcuate section of the side surface. Rather, the two straight sections together are opposite the arcuate section.
[0008] Because the curved section and the straight section in the device according to the invention are opposite one another, a larger relief area formed by the filter mat or the combination of filter mats can be achieved by varying the angular range over which the curved section of the edge of the side wall extends than in the known Q-Box. By varying the angular range, the relief area becomes more bulbous or flatter. The larger the angular range, the more bulbous the relief area. On the other hand, the area closed by the rupture disc and through which gas can flow into the interior of the device after the rupture disc opens, the smaller the bulbous the relief area.
[0009] Unlike the device according to the invention, the IV8 has no external bars. The filter mat(s), which may also be used in the IV8, may therefore be held in place only by the arches. External bars, such as those provided in the device according to the invention, which hold the filter mat(s) in addition to the arches, are not provided in the IV8.
[0010] The arcuate portion of the edge of the side surfaces of a device according to the invention, opposite the straight portion, may be a circular arc. The arcuate or circular arc-shaped portion may have an angular range of 200° to 260°, in particular approximately 230°.
[0011] In addition to the straight section, hereinafter referred to as the first straight section, and the opposite curved section, the edge of the side surface of the side walls can have further sections. These can be located between the two aforementioned sections. These sections located between the first straight section and the curved section can also be straight or curved. If these sections are curved, the bend is much smaller than in the curved section. If these sections are straight, they preferably form an angle of between 95° and 125° with the first straight section.
[0012] It is possible for a shoulder to be formed in the edge of the side surfaces. For this purpose, a second straight section can initially adjoin each end of the curved section, preferably forming a tangent to the end of the curved section. This second straight section can be followed by a third straight section, which is parallel to the first straight section and directed inwards from the second straight section. From the end of this third straight section, a fourth straight section can be provided, parallel to the second straight section, which adjoins one of the ends of the first straight section.
[0013] Preferably, the side surfaces of the side walls are mirror-symmetrical to a perpendicular bisector of the first straight section. Preferably, the entire side walls are mirror-symmetrical to a plane perpendicular to the side surface and containing the perpendicular bisector of the first straight section.
[0014] Preferably, the first side wall and the second side wall are the same.
[0015] The first connecting part and the second connecting part can also be the same.
[0016] Regardless of whether they are identical or not, the connecting parts may have a flange with which the flameless pressure relief device can be attached to another object. This may be, for example, a container or a pipeline. A rupture disc may be provided between the other object and the device according to the invention.
[0017] A connecting part of a device according to the invention can comprise a first connecting strip, preferably connected to the flange and angled outward at an acute angle relative to the flange. This acute angle can be the secondary angle to the angle enclosed by the first straight section and the fourth straight section of the edge of the side surface of the side wall. If this angle is 105° to 125°, preferably 115°, the acute angle can correspondingly be 75° to 55°, preferably 65°.
[0018] The first connecting strip, whether or not it is connected to a flange, can follow the edge of the side surface in the region of the fourth straight section, which then also determines the orientation of the first connecting strip. The height of the connecting strip can correspond to the length of the fourth straight section of the edge of the side surface. Tabs can be provided at the ends of the first connecting strip. These can be angled by approximately 90° relative to the first connecting strip and rest against the first or second side wall. Through holes can be provided in the tabs, with through holes in the side wall aligned. The connecting parts and the side walls can be connected by rivets inserted into these through holes. Screws and nuts or other suitable connecting elements could also be used instead of rivets.
[0019] A connecting part of a device according to the invention can have a web. This can be connected to the first connecting strip. This preferably lies in a plane parallel to the flange and can follow the edge of the side surface in the region of the third straight section. It can be as deep as the third straight section of the edge of the side surface is long. The depth of the web can correspond to the thickness of the filter mat or the assembly of filter mats, or the depth of the web can be greater than the thickness of the filter mat or the assembly of filter mats.
[0020] A connecting part of a device according to the invention can have a second connecting strip. This second connecting strip can be arranged in a plane parallel to the first connecting strip. It can connect to the web. Furthermore, the second connecting strip can follow the edge of the side surface in the region of the second straight section. It can be approximately as high as the second straight section is long. Tabs can be provided at the ends of the second connecting strip. These can be angled by approximately 90° relative to the second connecting strip and rest against the first or second side wall. Through holes can be provided in the tabs, with through holes in the side wall being aligned. The connecting parts and the side walls can be connected by rivets inserted into these through holes.Instead of rivets, screws and nuts or other suitable fasteners could be used.
[0021] The orientation of the first connecting strip is selected such that an opening rupture disc opens with the maximum possible opening angle within the interior of the device without first striking the first connecting strip. The maximum possible opening angle in the device according to the invention is determined by the pivot radius of the opening part of the rupture disc and by where this opening part strikes the inside of the filter mat or the assembly of filter mats. The location is determined, among other things, by the size of the angular range of the arcuate or circular arc-shaped section of the side surface.
[0022] The round arches of a device according to the invention can be designed in various ways. For example, there can be two first outer round arches. Each of these round arches can rest against the inside of one of the side walls or overlap one of the side walls.
[0023] The ends of the first outer arches can be connected to the connecting parts, in particular to the first second connecting strips. For this purpose, the ends of the outer arches and the second connecting strips can have aligned through holes into which rivets are inserted. Other connections are of course also possible, for example, connections with screws.
[0024] The first outer arches can be connected to the ends of the outer transoms. For this purpose, aligned through holes can be provided at the ends of the outer transoms and in the first outer arches, into which rivets are inserted. Other connections are of course also possible, for example, connections with screws.
[0025] The first outer arches can be U-shaped in cross-section. The legs of the first outer arches, which are U-shaped in cross-section, can be directed inward and rest against the filter mat or the composite of filter mats.
[0026] Through holes can be provided in a leg of the first outer arch, which has a U-shaped cross-section and is adjacent to the side wall. These holes align with through holes in the side walls. The leg can be cut on one or both sides of one, some, or all of the through holes. This prevents the through holes from being deformed when the arch is bent. Rivets can be inserted into these through holes. Other connections are also possible, of course, such as screw connections.
[0027] The first outer arches may have recesses at the connecting points or in a region of the connecting points into which the outer bar engages, which is connected to the first outer arch at these connecting points.
[0028] The outer round arches may also include second outer round arches. These may be arranged between the first outer round arches. The second outer round arches may have a rectangular cross-section.
[0029] The second outer arches can cross the outer transoms. The outer transoms can have slots at these intersections. The second outer arches can be inserted through these slots. In the area of the intersections, aligned through holes can be provided in the outer transoms and the second outer arches, into which rivets are inserted. Other connections are of course also possible, for example, connections with screws.
[0030] The outer bars are preferably bars. The cross-sectional profile of the outer bars can be a U-profile or a hat profile.
[0031] Tabs can be provided at the ends of the outer bars. These tabs can be angled relative to the rest of the outer bar. These tabs can be connected to one of the side walls and / or one of the first outer arches. For this purpose, aligned through holes can be provided on the tabs and in the first outer arches and / or the side walls, into which rivets are inserted. Other connections are of course also possible, for example, screw connections.
[0032] A device according to the invention can also have inner bars in addition to the outer bars. These can be arranged so that they rest against an inner side of the filter mat or the assembly of filter mats. The inner bars can be rods or tubes. In particular, they can have a circular outer profile. Their ends can rest butt-on against the inner sides of the side walls. Threads can be cut into the inner bars from the ends. The inner bars can be attached to the side walls with screws inserted from the outside through through holes.
[0033] The device according to the invention preferably has no welded joints. The individual components are connected by plug connections, riveted joints, screw connections, and / or other similarly easy-to-manufacture connections that can be manufactured without, or without, large-scale tooling. This makes it possible to deliver the individual components of the device according to the invention as a kit from a manufacturing plant where the individual components are manufactured or assembled to sales offices or construction sites where the devices are fully assembled. Delivering kits offers logistical advantages over shipping fully assembled devices.

They show: Fig. 1 a perspective view of the device according to the invention, but without filter mats and other parts of a composite with filter mats, Fig. 2 a view according to the Fig. 1 of the device without a connection to filter mats and without a lifting point, Fig. 3 a side view of the device without a connection to filter mats and without a lifting point, Fig. 4 a front view of the device without a connection to filter mats, without a holder for the connection to filter mats and without a lifting point, Fig. 5 a perspective view of the device according to the invention, without a connection to filter mats, without a holder for the connection to filter mats, without a lifting point and without a first side wall, Fig. 6 a perspective view of a side wall of the device, Fig. 7 a perspective view of a connecting part of the device, Fig. 8 a perspective view of a first outer round arch of the device, Fig. 8a a perspective view of a first outer round arch of the device in an alternative embodiment, Fig. 9 a perspective view of a second outer round arch of the device, Fig.10 a perspective view of an outer bar of the device, Fig. 10a a perspective view of an outer bar of the device in an alternative embodiment, Fig. 11 a composite with filter mats in a perspective view Fig. 12 a sectional view through the composite with filter mats in a perspective view, Fig. 13 a detail from . Fig. 12 and Fig. 14 a view corresponding to the view from Fig. 13 , but without screw, washers and cap nut.
[0035] It is not necessary for a device according to the invention to have all of the features described below. It is also possible for a device according to the invention to have only individual features of the exemplary embodiments described below.
[0036] The device V according to the invention shown in the figures has identical side walls 1 with side surfaces 11, with an edge of which has an arcuate section 115 and with a first straight section 111 opposite it. The side wall 1 is mirror-symmetrical to a plane perpendicular to the side surface, which plane contains the perpendicular bisector of the first straight section 111.
[0037] The arcuate section 115 of the edge of the side surfaces 11 is a circular arc. The circular arc extends over an angular range of 230° from one end to the other.
[0038] Beginning at each end of the curved section 115, the edge has a second straight section 112 that forms a tangent to the end of the curved section. These second straight sections 112 are each followed by a third straight section 113 that runs parallel to the first straight section 111 and extends inward from the second straight section 112. At the end of this third straight section 113, a fourth straight section 114 begins, parallel to the second straight section 112 and adjoins one of the ends of the first straight section 111. The first straight section 111 and the fourth straight section 114 form an angle of approximately 115°.
[0039] The first straight section 111 is followed by a flange area 12 angled outwards by approximately 90° relative to the side surface 11.
[0040] The identical connecting parts 2 each have a flange area 21, which, together with the flange area 12 of the side walls 1, forms a flange 12, 21 with which the flameless pressure relief device can be attached to another object. This can be, for example, a container or a pipeline. A rupture disc 6 of the device is arranged between the other object and the flange 12, 21.
[0041] The connecting parts 2 have a first connecting strip 22 connected to the flange area 21 and angled upwards at an angle of approximately 65° relative to the flange.
[0042] The first connecting strip 22 follows the fourth straight section 114 at the edge of the side surface 11 of the side wall 1, which then also determines the orientation of the first connecting strip 22. The height of the connecting strip 22 corresponds to the length of the fourth straight section 114 of the edge of the side surface 11. Tabs 23 are provided at the ends of the first connecting strip 22. These are angled by approximately 90° relative to the first connecting strip 23 and are fastened to the first and second side walls 1, respectively. For this purpose, through holes are provided in the tabs 23, with which through holes in the side wall 1 are aligned. The connecting parts 2 and the side walls 1 are connected by rivets 81, which are set in these through holes. In a device according to the invention, a different type of connection between the side walls 1 and the side walls could also be selected.
[0043] The connecting parts 2 each have a web 24. This connects to the first connecting strip 22. This preferably lies in a plane parallel to the flange area 21 and follows the edge of the side surface 11 in the area of the third straight section 113. It is as deep as the third straight section 113 of the edge of the side surface 11 is long. The depth of the web 24 corresponds to the thickness of a filter mat or a composite of filter mats which is or are Figuren 1 to 9a are not shown.
[0044] The connecting parts 2 each have a second connecting strip 25. This second connecting strip 25 is arranged in a plane parallel to the first connecting strip 22 and adjoins the web 24. Furthermore, the second connecting strip 25 follows the edge of the side surface 11 in the region of the second straight section 112. It is approximately as high as the second straight section 112 is long. Tabs 26 can be provided at the ends of the second connecting strip 25. These are angled by approximately 90° relative to the second connecting strip and rest against the first and second side walls 1, respectively. Through holes are provided in the tabs 26, with which through holes in the side wall are aligned. The connecting parts and the side walls are connected by rivets 82, which are set in these through holes. In a device according to the invention, a different type of connection between the side walls 1 and the side walls could also be chosen.
[0045] The orientation of the first connecting strip 22 is selected such that an opening rupture disc 3 opens with the maximum possible opening angle in the interior of the device without first striking the first connecting strip 22. The maximum possible opening angle in the device according to the invention is determined by the pivot radius of the opening part of the rupture disc 3 and by where this opening part strikes the inside of the filter mat or the assembly with filter mats.
[0046] Round arches of the device according to the invention can be designed in various ways. For example, there can be two first outer round arches 4. Each of these round arches 4 can rest against an inner side of one of the side walls 1 or overlap one of the side walls 1.
[0047] Ends of the first outer arches 4 are connected to the connecting parts 2, in particular to the first second connecting strips 25. For this purpose, the ends of the outer arches 4 and the second connecting strips 25 have aligned through holes into which rivets 83 are inserted.
[0048] The first outer arches 4 can be connected to the ends of outer bars 6. For this purpose, aligned through holes are provided at the ends of the outer bars 6 and in the first outer arches 4, into which rivets 84 are inserted.
[0049] The first outer arches 4 may have a U-shaped cross-section. The legs of the first outer arches 4, which are U-shaped in cross-section, are directed inward and rest against the filter mat or the composite of filter mats.
[0050] In a leg 41 of each first outer round arch 4, which is U-shaped in cross-section and which abuts the side wall 1, through holes are provided which are aligned with through holes in the side walls. Rivets 85 are inserted into these through holes. Slots 411 can be provided on both sides of the through holes in the legs 41 of each first outer round arch 4, as shown in the Fig. 8a These slots prevent the previously created through holes from deforming due to the applied bending forces when the sheet is bent.
[0051] The first outer round arches 4 can have recesses at connection points or in a region of the connection points with outer bars 6, into which the respective outer bar 6 engages, which is connected at these connection points to the first outer round arch 4 and the side walls 1.
[0052] The outer arches also include a second outer arch 5. This is arranged between the first outer arches 4. The second outer arch 5 can have a rectangular cross-section. However, a device according to the invention can also have no second outer arch or several second outer arches.
[0053] The second outer arch 5 can cross the outer bars 6. The outer bars 6 have slots at these intersections. The second outer arch 5 is inserted through these slots. In the area of the intersections, aligned through holes can be provided in the outer bars 6 and the second outer arch, into which rivets 86 are inserted.
[0054] Ends of the second outer arch 5 are connected to the connecting parts 2, in particular to the first second connecting strips 25. For this purpose, the ends of the second outer arch 5 and the second connecting strips 25 have aligned through holes into which rivets 87 are inserted.
[0055] The outer bars 6 are bars with a U-profile ( Fig. 10 ) or hat profile ( Fig. 10a ) as a cross-sectional profile.
[0056] Tabs 61 are provided at the ends of the outer bars 6. These tabs 61 are angled relative to the remaining outer bars and are connected to one of the side walls 1. For this purpose, aligned through holes are provided in the tabs 61 and the side walls 1, into which rivets 87 are inserted.
[0057] A device according to the invention can comprise a composite 9 of filter mats ( Fig. 11 bis 14). The composite 9 comprises a first outer filter mat 91 and several inner filter mats 92. The inner filter mats 92 are placed on top of one another and are shown in the figures as a compact block of inner filter mats 92.
[0058] The ends of the inner filter mats 92 are each enclosed in a receptacle 93, 94, 95. Each of these receptacles has a first strip 93, a second strip 94, and several sleeves 95. The first strip 93 has three strips 931, 932, 933. A first strip 931 of the three strips 931, 932, 933 and a second strip 932 of the three strips 931, 932, 933 are approximately at right angles to each other. A third strip 933 is attached to the second strip 932, and the second and third strips 932, 933 form an acute angle of approximately 15 to 30°.
[0059] Through holes are provided along a straight line in the first strip 931 at a distance from the second strip 932. Sleeves 95 are attached to the first strip, parallel to the second strip and continuing the through holes in the first strip 931. The sleeves have a length approximately equal to the width of the second strip. The second strip 94 is attached to the ends of the sleeves 95.
[0060] The second strip 94 has a central strip 941 and two outer strips 942. The central strip also has through holes along a straight line and at a distance from the sleeves 95 and the through holes in the first strip 93, which connect to the sleeves 95, so that a channel is formed between the through holes in the first strip 93 and the through holes in the second strip 94, which channel is delimited by the sleeves 95.
[0061] The two outer strips adjoin the middle strip 941 and form an angle of approximately 135° with the middle strip 941. An edge of the outer strips 942 opposite the middle strip 941 is serrated, and the resulting serrations engage the inner filter mats 92.
[0062] The inner filter mats 92 also have through holes at their enclosed ends. The sleeves 95 extend through these through holes in the enclosed ends, which are thus enclosed between the first strip 93 and the second strip 94 of the receptacles 93, 94, 95.
[0063] The outer filter mat 91 also has through-holes that are aligned with the channels formed, among other things, by the sleeves 95. The assembly 9 is screwed to the connecting parts 2 by screws 97, which are guided through the channels and the through-holes in the outer filter mat 91, and cap nuts 98, which are screwed onto the ends of the screws. By tightening the cap nuts 98, the outer filter mat 91 can be pressed against the second bar 94, although this is not shown in the figures. The outer filter mat 91 is then connected to the holder 93, 94, 95 not only by positive locking, but also by frictional locking.
[0064] The ends of the outer filter mat 91 are pulled over a side of the third strip 933 facing away from the second strip 932 of the first strip 93 and folded, wherein the fold encloses the end of the third strip 933 of the first strip 93. The third strips 933 and the ends of the outer filter mat 91 pulled over the third strips 933 rest against the webs 24 of the connecting parts 2 and are fastened to the webs 24 of the connecting parts 2 by means of rivets.
[0065] The assembly 9 comprising the filter mats 91, 92 forms a unit that can be pre-assembled and only later combined with the remaining parts of the device according to the invention when the device is fully assembled. Thus, the assembly 9, like the other parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and the screws, nuts, and rivets connecting these parts, can be transported to a location where assembly takes place. For example, a kit containing these parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9 and the screws, nuts, and rivets connecting these parts can be assembled at a manufacturing site and then assembled at another location, for example, in a sales branch or on a construction site. This has the advantage that the kits have a smaller volume than the fully assembled devices, so that volume can be saved during shipping.
[0066] The filter mats 91, 92 can be made from cut-to-size knitted fabric panels. The inner filter mats 92 can have different mesh sizes. The mesh size is on average between 1 and 6 mm, preferably 1.2 mm and 5.5 mm.
