Description

[0001] ADJUSTABLE ECCENTRIC RING

[0002] DESCRIPTION

[0003] TECHNICAL FIELD AND STATE OF THE PRIOR ART

[0004] The present invention relates to the field of aircraft wings, of the type comprising a central wing body which remains fixed and which carries one or more movable leading edge flaps, also called "slats".

[0005] Each of the two wings of the wing structure is generally equipped with high-lift flaps, mounted on the leading edge of the wing. The flaps are deployed for landing and takeoff to increase lift at low or medium speeds. In high-speed cruising flight, the flaps are retracted to limit the aircraft's resistance to forward movement.

[0006] Today, the assembly of fixed leading edges and movable flaps on the wing involves many operations. Fixed leading edges and movable flaps consist of a multitude of parts, including, for example, ribs, skins, electrical systems as well as guide rails, hinges and pivot arms, to allow the movable part to be imposed the desired movement. During the assembly of the fixed leading edges and movable flaps, these different parts are individually integrated into the wing by operations, among others, drilling and riveting to form the fixed leading edge and bolting and adjustment to mount the movable flaps. During this time, other work on the wing cannot be carried out and the assembly line remains blocked. In addition, drilling operations are likely to deposit metal shavings in removable parts of the wing, which are thus at risk of being damaged during their movement. Another risk includes damage to electrical cables during drilling operations.

[0007] Thus, it would be advantageous to design a leading edge module, comprising the fixed leading edge, the movable flap with its removable parts, which are mounted on the wing without the need to carry out drilling operations on the assembly line.

[0017] Advantageously, the method comprises the step of providing a position to be adjusted on said dial to establish the rotary position of the first ring relative to the determined second ring.

[0018] Advantageously, the method may comprise the following steps:

[0019] - determining a direction of the distance between centers relative to a point of attachment of the second attachment means on the first or second part,

[0020] - determining a rotary position of the second fixing means relative to the first and / or second ring to orient the eccentricity of the guide ring in the determined direction when the second fixing means is fixed to the fixing point, preferably,

[0033] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF SPECIFIC EMBODIMENTS

[0034] Figure 1 shows a first attachment part (190) and a second attachment part (200), the two parts being intended to be attached relative to each other. In the example shown, a male and a female yoke are to be attached to each other. The first attachment part may be a leading edge module (190) and the second attachment part may be a wing box (200). Said attachment thus mounts the leading edge module to the wing box. The first part and the second part are attached relative to each other by a connecting bolt (350).

[0035] The right part of Figure 1 shows a section along line AA indicated on the left part, but without the connecting bolt. The connecting bolt (350) is received by a first bore (210) in the first part and a second bore (220) in the second part, as shown in Figure 1, left part. More specifically, the first and second bores can be manufactured by boring. The right part of Figure 1 shows the first part and the second part held at a desired relative position, before insertion of the bolt. It is observed that a diameter of the first bore is less than a diameter of the second bore. It is also observed that a center of the first bore (230) is displaced relative to a center of the second bore (240). Said displacement can be characterized by a vector, indicated by an arrow between said centers in Figure 1, right part.Said vector has a length corresponding to a distance (250) between the centers of the holes. An orientation of the vector can be described by an angle (280) relative to a straight line passing through the center of the second hole (240) and a fixing point (290) on the first or second part, as will be detailed later. Generally, said fixing point is located on the part receiving the adjustable ring or double eccentric ring. Said angle thus fixes a direction of the distance between centers relative to the fixing point on the first or second part. In Figure 1, said fixing point is provided on the second part.

[0036] In summary, the relative position of the first breakthrough and the second breakthrough is described by a distance between centers of the breakthroughs and by a direction of the distance. The direction of the distance is described by said angle (280).

[0037] The connecting bolt (350) passes through the first hole and the second hole to secure the two parts together, as shown in the left part of Figure 1. Thus, one diameter of the bolt is smaller than one of the two holes. As shown in Figure 1, right part, the diameter of the bolt must be smaller than the diameter of the second hole in the second part in the example shown.

[0038] The remaining space between the bolt and the hole in the second part must therefore be filled to ensure that the bolt holds the two parts securely. For example, a guide ring can be used. As seen in the right part of Figure 1, it is necessary to use an eccentric guide ring. An eccentric guide ring includes an opening placed eccentrically. In other words, a center of the ring opening is displaced relative to the center of an outer circumference of the ring. The eccentricity and the orientation of the eccentricity of the ring are described by a vector.

[0039] An "eccentricity" of the ring is the size or length of said displacement of the centers or the distance of this displacement of centers. In other words, it is the length of the connecting vector between the two centers.

[0040] An "orientation" of this eccentricity is the direction of this displacement relative to a straight line passing through the center of the outer circumference of the ring. Said straight line remains fixed relative to said outer circumference of the ring. In other words, it is the direction of the vector relative to said straight line.

[0041] For the two parts shown in Figure 1, the eccentricity of the ring to be used must correspond to the center distance (250) of the holes in the parts. As will be described later, the ring to be used will be an adjustable ring or double eccentric ring. In addition, the ring must be rotated relative to an environment (340) receiving the ring to align the orientation of the eccentricity of the ring with the direction of the center distance (280) of the holes in the two parts to be fixed. In other words, the vector of the center distance must be aligned with the vector of the eccentricity of the ring.

[0042] In order to be able to provide a ring with an eccentricity adapted to the said distance between centers, which can vary depending on manufacturing hazards, it would be advantageous to use an adjustable guide ring.

[0043] Figure 2 shows an adjustable guide ring (10). The adjustable guide ring comprises a first ring (20) with a first eccentric opening (30) and a second ring (40) with a second eccentric opening (50). In other words, the first and second rings each have an outer circular shape with an outer circumference and a circular opening. For each ring, the center of the circular opening is displaced relative to the center of the outer circular shape of the ring. Thus, the first ring has a first eccentricity (170) and the second ring has a second eccentricity (180). As shown in Figure 1, the first ring is housed in the second opening of the second ring. The adjustable guide ring thus has the outer circular shape of the second ring and the circular opening of the first ring.Accordingly, an eccentricity of the adjustable guide ring (270) corresponds to the displacement of the center of the first opening relative to the center of the outer circular shape of the second ring. As shown in Figure 2, the eccentricity of the adjustable guide ring (270) is the magnitude of the vector sum of the vector characterizing the first eccentricity of the first ring (170) and the vector characterizing the second eccentricity of the second ring (180). The eccentricity of the adjustable guide ring (270) can thus be adjusted by rotating the first ring inside the second ring. A rotary position (260) of the first ring relative to the second ring thus determines a distance or eccentricity of the adjustable guide ring.

[0044] By changing the eccentricity of the adjustable guide ring, its eccentricity orientation changes. The eccentricity orientation of the adjustable guide ring can be described relative to the straight line passing through the center of the circumference of the second ring and the center of the circumference of the first ring. In other words, the eccentricity of the adjustable ring is a function of the eccentricity orientation.

[0045] Knowing the distance between centers (250) of the first and second bores (230, 240) of the two parts to be fixed, the eccentricity of the adjustable guide ring can be adjusted to correspond to said distance by choosing the corresponding rotary position (260) between the first and second rings. Said rotary position or in other words, a rotary position between the two rings, can be described by the angle between the vectors characterizing the first eccentricity of the first ring and the second eccentricity of the second ring, as shown in Figure 2.

[0046] Once the eccentricity of the guide ring has been adjusted to a desired value, said eccentricity can be fixed by a first fixing means (60). Said first fixing means is thus configured to fix the chosen rotational position between the first and the second ring. It thus fixes the adjusted eccentricity. Figure 4 shows an example of the first fixing means. In the example shown, the first ring has a serrated edge (160). The second ring also has a serrated edge (165). The first fixing means comprises a plate with an opening having a serrated surface therein. The serrated surface of the opening of the first fixing means simultaneously fixes to the serrated edge of the first and second rings, as shown in Figure 4. Thus, neither the first ring nor the second ring can rotate relative to the first fixing means.A rotary position of the first ring relative to the second ring is thus fixed.

[0047] Advantageously, the eccentricity of the first opening within the first ring corresponds to the eccentricity of the second opening within the second ring. In this case, the eccentricity of the adjustable guide ring can be adjusted between a value of zero and a value of twice the eccentricity of the first opening within the first ring.

[0048] As described above, by the rotary position (260) between the two rings, the eccentricity of the adjustable guide ring can be adjusted to correspond to the center distance (250) of the first and second bores (230, 240). It is thus advantageous to provide an indicator (70) to indicate an orientation of the eccentricity of the first ring within the second ring. In other words, the indicator (70) makes visible the orientation of the eccentricity of the first ring relative to the orientation of the eccentricity of the second ring. In other words, the indicator makes visible the rotary position (260) between the orientation of the eccentricity of the first and second rings so as to be able to make visible the eccentricity of the adjustable guide ring. Said indicator (70) is comprised by the first and second rings.Since the orientation of the eccentricity of the first ring relative to the orientation of the eccentricity of the second ring determines the vector sum of the eccentricities, this orientation determines the eccentricity of the adjustable ring and the direction of the eccentricity of the adjustable ring. The direction of the eccentricity of the adjustable ring can, as described before, be defined by the angle between two straight lines: A first straight line passing through the centers of the outer circumferences of the first and second rings. A second straight line passing through the center of the outer circumference of the second ring and the center of the opening of the first ring.

[0049] Figure 3 shows an example of an indicator (70). The indicator comprises a dial (80) on the first and / or second ring. In the example shown, the indicator comprises a dial on the second ring. A line or arrow on the first ring is positioned opposite a symbol on the dial. The position indicated by the arrow on the dial can thus be translated into the eccentricity of the adjustable ring.

[0050] To fix the first part (190) and the second part (200) using the bolt (350) and the adjustable ring (10), the orientation of the eccentricity of the adjustable ring (270) must be oriented relative to the two parts to correspond to the direction of the distance between centers (250) of the holes (210, 220). Preferably, it must be fixed in this position. In other words, the vector characterizing the distance between centers (250) shown in Figure 1, right, must be aligned with the vector characterizing the orientation of the eccentricity (270) of the adjustable ring, shown in Figure 2. The adjustable ring may for this purpose comprise a second fixing means (90) for fixing a rotational position of the first and / or the second ring relative to an environment (340) receiving the second ring.

[0051] In the example shown in Figure 1, the second fastening means (90) secures the first and second rings relative to the second part. The second part receives the adjustable guide ring. As shown in Figures 3 and 4, the second fastening means is configured to be attachable to the first and / or second rings at one of a plurality of rotatable positions (100). The second fastening means also comprises a second dial (110) for indicating said rotatable position.

[0052] The second dial is used to orient the second fastening means relative to the adjustable guide ring. This orientation is chosen to align the eccentricity of the ring with the center distance (250) shown in Figure 1, once the second fastening means is fixed to the environment.

[0053] Figures 3, 4 and 5 show the second fastening means implemented by a plate (120). As described before, this plate is at the same time the first fastening means. In the example shown, the first ring and the second ring each comprise a serrated edge. The plate comprises a serrated opening which is fixed on the two serrated edges of the first and the second ring. As described before, a rotatable position between the first and the second ring is thus fixed. In addition and at the same time, an orientation of the eccentricity of the adjustable ring (270) relative to the first and the second part is also fixed by the fixing of the plate to the first and / or second part. As described before, it can be a male / female yoke. For example, the serrated surface can comprise 36 teeth, corresponding to an adjustment in steps of 10°.

[0054] Advantageously, the serration or teeth of the crenellated opening of the plate are offset relative to the fixing device (130) on the plate. In other words, a tip of a tooth of the serration is not on a straight line passing through the fixing device and the center of the crenellated opening of the plate, but is offset relative to said straight line. For example, an offset angle of 2.5° may be chosen. In this case, for a plate comprising 36 teeth, an adjustment pitch of 5° may be obtained by turning the plate over, as shown in Figure 5.

[0055] As shown in Figures 3, 4 and 5, the plate comprises a first device (130) for being fixed to the environment receiving the second ring, for example to the first and / or second part. In the example shown, said first device is an opening in the plate. The orientation of this opening in the plate relative to the adjustable guide ring determines the orientation of the eccentricity of the adjustable ring relative to the first and second part and thus also relative to the direction of the distance between centers (250), shown in Figure 1. The plate is fixed with the first device (130) to the fixing point (290) on the first or second part, shown in Figure 1, right.

[0056] Figures 3 and 4 show that the crenellated opening of the plate comprises the second dial (150) described above. The dial comprises a symbol to be able to differentiate different positions. The first ring comprises an indicator, for example an arrow, on its crenellated edge which points to a symbol on the dial. Thus a rotary position between the plate and the adjustable guide ring is indicated on said dial.

[0057] Additionally, the adjustable ring may be secured to the ring-receiving environment by a nut (360), secured by a tab washer (370), shown in Figure 6. Figure 6 shows the opposite side of the adjustable ring-receiving environment, shown in Figure 3. In the example shown in Figures 3 and 6, the nut is secured to a thread on the first ring. The first ring rests with its serrated edge on the first ring. Thus, the nut secures the adjustable ring to the ring-receiving part. The tab washer secures the nut against unscrewing.

[0058] Advantageously, a measuring and adjusting device (hereinafter referred to as a "device") may be used to configure the adjustable guide ring together with its plate for use.

[0059] The measuring device determines the distance between centers of the holes (Figure 1) and the direction of said distance relative to the position of the fixing point (290) on the first or second part. Then, the measuring device provides the value to be adjusted on the dial of the first or second ring (80). In other words, a value on the dial (80) is provided which must be placed opposite the indicator (70), see Figure 3. In the example shown in Figures 1 and 3, the measuring device would indicate to adjust the position "A" on the dial. The arrow on the first ring is thus turned to be placed opposite the symbol "A" on the dial of the second ring.

[0060] Then or at the same time, the measuring device provides a position to be adjusted on the second dial. In other words, a second indicator on the edge of the first ring is placed opposite a value of the second dial. In the example shown in Figures 1 and 3, the measuring device would indicate to adjust the position "2" on the second dial. The plate is thus fixed with its crenellated opening on the crenellated edge of the first and second rings so that the arrow on the crenellated edge of the first ring points to the position "2" on the second dial. The adjustable ring with its plate can then be fixed on the second part, shown in Figure 1, right. The first fixing device (130) on the plate is fixed at the location of the fixing point (290) on the second part while the adjustable ring is inserted into the second bore (220) in the second part.As a result, the first opening (30) of the first ring is aligned with the first bore in the first part and the connecting bolt can be installed. The values provided by the measuring device are determined so that the eccentricity of the adjustable ring and the direction of the eccentricity correspond to the center distance (250) when the plate fixing device (130) is fixed on the fixing point (290), see figures 1 and 3.

[0061] Said measuring and adjusting device may be a mechanical device. It is also possible that said measuring and adjusting device is an optical device. For example, the device may comprise a camera or a three-dimensional scanner to acquire a representation of the first breakthrough, the second breakthrough and the fixing point (290) when the first and second parts are held in a desired relative position. Knowing the eccentricity of the first and second rings of the adjustable ring and a positioning of the dial and the second dial, the device may then provide the values to be adjusted on the two dials to configure the adjustable ring for use with the first and second parts.

[0062] It is also possible for the device to perform a three-dimensional scan of a first representative portion of the wing box to obtain a first digital model, and to perform a three-dimensional scan of a second representative portion of the leading edge module to obtain a second digital model. The first portion comprises a first reference region and the first breakthrough, the second portion comprising a second reference region and the second breakthrough. The attachment point (290) is located on the first or second representative portion. Then, a relative position of the first reference region with respect to the second reference region is defined to locate the wing box and the leading edge module at a desired position. As a result, the relative position of the first breakthrough with respect to the second breakthrough and the positioning of the attachment bridge are known. The device then provides the values to be adjusted on the dials of the adjustable ring (10) to establish the connection.

[0063] Subsequently, the procedure for adjusting the eccentricity of the adjustable ring will be described in more detail. The procedure can be implemented on a computer. It can also be implemented by a mechanical device. Subsequently, only the term "device" will be used for the tool implementing the method.

[0064] During a first step, the eccentricity (170) of the first ring and the eccentricity (180) of the second ring are provided to the adjustment device. It is also possible that said values are measured by the device. As described before, the eccentricity is the distance, for example in millimeters, between the center of the opening of the ring and the center of the outer circumference of the ring. The eccentricity of the adjustable ring can be adjusted within a range of values, said range extending between the sum of the two eccentricities up to the difference between the two eccentricities of the two rings forming the adjustable ring.

[0065] During a second step, the device receives or measures a distance (250) between centers of a first circular bore (210) in a first part (190) and a second circular bore (220) in a second part (200), when said parts are positioned at a desired relative position, as shown in Figure 1.

[0066] During a third step, the device determines a rotary position (260) of the first ring relative to the second ring so that the eccentricity (270) of the adjustable guide ring corresponds to said distance between centers. Said rotary position of the first ring inside the second ring can for example be determined relative to a maximum position. Said maximum position is that where the adjustable guide ring has a maximum eccentricity. In other words, by the maximum position it is meant the rotary position in which the two eccentricities of the first and second rings add up. The rotary position relative to this maximum position is indicated in Figure 2 by the reference

[0067] 260. As previously described, the first and second rings may include an indicator or dial (70, 80). In this case, the device may directly provide a position to be adjusted on said dial to establish the rotational position of the first ring relative to the second ring. In the example shown in Figure 3, the device would indicate "A". A user may then change the relative position of the first and second rings until the arrow on the first ring points to "A" of the dial on the second ring.

[0068] The device can also provide the information necessary to install the second fastening means and thus orient the adjustable guide ring relative to the environment receiving the ring. This step takes place after determining the relative rotational position of the first and second eccentric rings.

[0069] The device receives or determines a direction (280) of the distance between centers relative to a fixing point (290) of the second fixing means on the first or second part. More specifically, the device receives or measures an angle (280) between a first straight line passing through the centers (230, 240) of the holes in the two parts (190, 200) to be fixed and a second straight line passing through the center of the hole receiving the adjustable ring (240) and the fixing point (290) used to fix the second fixing means, as shown in Figure 1, right part.

[0070] The device then determines and provides a rotary position (300) of the second fastening means relative to the first and / or second ring to orient the eccentricity of the guide ring in the determined direction when the second fastening means is fixed to the fixing point. In the example shown in Figure 1 and 3, the provided rotary position allows a user to fix the plate at one of several possible positions on the adjustable guide ring. Then, the plate is fixed with the opening (130) on the fixing point (290). Accordingly, the orientation (270) of the eccentricity of the adjustable ring is aligned with the direction (250) of the center distance, see Figures 1, 3. Advantageously, the device can provide a position to be adjusted (310) on the second dial to establish said rotary position of the second fastening means relative to the first and / or second ring.In the example shown in Figure 3, the device would provide "2" as the position to be adjusted. A user can then position the plate to put the "2" symbol on the second dial at the position of the arrow on the first ring.

[0071] As previously described, the adjustable guide ring can advantageously be used to secure a leading edge module (320) to a wing box (330), shown in Figure 7. Thus, in the preceding description, the first part to be secured can be the leading edge module and the second part to be secured can be the wing box. In the example shown in Figure 3, the leading edge module is brought closer to the wing box to hold both in a desired position. Then, the adjustable guide ring is configured to be able to secure the two parts by a connecting bolt passing through the first bore (210) in the leading edge module and the second bore in the wing box.
