Description

[0001] DESCRIPTION

[0002] TITLE: MOTOR VEHICLE BUMPER PRESSOR ALLOWING TRANSVERSE MOUNTING

[0003] Technical field

[0004] The present invention claims priority from French application 2211068 filed on October 25, 2022, the content of which (text, drawings and claims) is incorporated herein by reference.

[0005] The present invention relates to the field of motor vehicles, more particularly the field of motor vehicle bumpers.

[0006] Prior art

[0007] The front bumper of motor vehicles conventionally comprises a bumper skin mounted on the front body wings by means of a presser, which corresponds to a support allowing the engagement of the bumper skin with the body of the motor vehicle.

[0008] The presser allows assembly of the bumper skin which is generally done along the longitudinal axis of the motor vehicle.

[0009] However, stylistic constraints and / or technological developments may imply a shape and position of the front optics on the front faces of current motor vehicles which may make the engagement of the bumper skin impractical in the longitudinal direction, in particular in the case of headlights arranged longitudinally in front of a junction between the wing and the bumper skin.

[0010] The published patent document FR 2 857 314 A1 discloses a device for fixing the side parts of the front bumper of a motor vehicle, the device comprising a side plate, secured to each of the wings of the vehicle, and provided with several tabs, pins and stapling means in order to removably lock the bumper skin to the wings of the motor vehicle.

[0011] However, the solution in the document requires longitudinal engagement of the bumper crossbars, and does not allow assembling the bumper skin in the case where the edge of the vehicle body wing is located behind the front optics.

[0012] Statement of the invention

[0013] The present invention aims to overcome at least one of the drawbacks of the aforementioned state of the art. More particularly, the invention aims to propose a simple and economical solution for efficiently assembling a bumper skin on a wing edge located longitudinally at the rear of a motor vehicle front light.

[0014] To this end, the invention relates to a motor vehicle comprising:

[0015] - two side body wings each comprising a rim;

[0016] - a bumper skin forming two lateral brackets each ending in a transverse return fixed against the edge of the corresponding lateral wing by means of screws passing through said edge and said transverse return, and engaging with a presser arranged against the transverse return, opposite the edge, said presser comprising at least one centering pin engaging with said edge; remarkable in that the transverse return of the bumper skin comprises at least one notch overlapping the at least one centering pin, so as to allow transverse engagement and / or adjustment of said bumper skin after engagement of the at least one centering pin and before tightening the screws.

[0017] According to one embodiment, the at least one centering pin comprises a proximal portion, with which the at least one notch of the transverse return of the bumper skin engages, and a distal portion having an increase in thickness relative to the proximal portion so as to form a retaining face for said transverse return of the bumper skin.

[0018] According to one embodiment, the proximal portion of the at least one centering pin has two parallel faces along a transverse adjustment direction of the bumper skin.

[0019] According to one embodiment, the distal portion of the at least one centering pin has a circular envelope widening towards the proximal portion so as to promote engagement and centering with the edge of the corresponding lateral wing. According to one embodiment, each of the two pressers comprises, on a face of said presser opposite the corresponding edge, at least one guide rib extending in a direction of transverse adjustment of the bumper skin and dimensioned to press the transverse return of the bumper skin against the retaining face on the distal portion of the at least one centering pin.

[0020] According to one embodiment, the at least one notch has a width widening in a direction of transverse adjustment of the bumper skin, in a direction of engagement with the corresponding centering pin.

[0021] According to one embodiment, the at least one notch has a proximal portion with two parallel edges and a distal portion with two diverging edges.

[0022] According to one embodiment, each of the two pressers comprises at least one elastic hook configured to engage with the edge of the corresponding side wing during an approach movement of said presser onto the motor vehicle.

[0023] The invention also relates to a method of assembling a bumper skin on a vehicle according to the invention, comprising the following steps:

[0024] - approach of the pressers on the two side wings of the motor vehicle, comprising an engagement of at least one centering pin with the edge of the corresponding side wing;

[0025] - approach and transverse engagement of the two side crosspieces of the bumper skin;

[0026] - engagement, on each side of the motor vehicle, of the screws through the edge and the transverse return and with the corresponding presser;

[0027] - screw tightening.

[0028] According to one embodiment, the step of approaching and transversely adjusting the two lateral crossbars of the bumper skin on the motor vehicle comprises a lateral separation of said lateral crossbars before the engagement of the at least one notch with the at least one centering pin.

[0029] The measures of the invention are advantageous in that the mounting of the bumper skin on the motor vehicle is carried out transversely while guaranteeing the longitudinal control of said bumper skin, and this, in a simple and rapid manner, allowing a considerable saving of time during the mounting of the motor vehicle.

[0030] In addition, the presser used to enable the transverse engagement of the bumper skin is capable of absorbing the forces during a frontal impact, so as to protect the front optics and the side wings of the body of the motor vehicle.

[0037] Detailed description

[0038] Figure 1 represents a front view of a left front side of a front face of a motor vehicle 2 according to the invention.

[0039] The front face of the motor vehicle 2 is substantially symmetrical with respect to a longitudinal axis. For this purpose, in the present description, the elements described along the left side visible in Figure 1, apply to the right side.

[0040] The motor vehicle 2 comprises two side wings 4 of the body and a bumper skin 6 forming two side brackets 6.1. The bumper skin 6 is screwed to each of the two side wings 4 at a junction 8 located longitudinally at the rear of the front light 10.

[0041] The assembly of the skin 6 with the lateral wing 4 is advantageously ensured by means of a presser visible in figure 2.

[0042] Figure 2 represents a perspective view of the presser 12 comprising at least one centering pin 14 engaged with a rim 4.1 of the side wing 4 of the motor vehicle.

[0043] The wing 4 visible in Figure 2 corresponds to the left front side wing of Figure 1. An internal part 4.2 of the wing 4 can be observed, and the edge 4.1 is inclined transversely towards the interior of the motor vehicle.

[0044] Preferably, the at least one pin 14 of the presser 12 corresponds to two identical centering pins 14 extending in projection from a face 12.1 of the presser 12. The face 12.1 being opposite the rim

[0045] The rim 4.1 comprises centering holes 4.3. Advantageously, each pin 14 comprises a distal portion 14.1 having a circular envelope widening towards the face 12.1, so as to promote engagement and centering of the presser 12 with the rim 4.1.

[0046] Advantageously, the mounting of the bumper skin 6 of figure 1 on the wing 4 of the motor vehicle comprises several steps, including a first step corresponding to the approach of the presser 12 towards the edge 4.1 until the insertion of the pins 14 through the centering holes 4.3.

[0047] Then, a transverse engagement of the side crosspieces of the bumper skin can be achieved. This engagement will be described in this description.

[0048] The presser 12 is able to remain in a position engaged with the rim 4.1 by means of the pins 14. Preferably, the presser 12 is held in position on the wing 4 by means of an elastic hook 16 which extends from the face 12 and which is able to deform to ensure retention with the rim 4.1 as soon as the pins 14 are inserted through the centering holes 4.3.

[0049] In this configuration, the side crosspieces each comprising a transverse return (not shown in FIG. 2) can engage with the edge 4.1. Preferably, the motor vehicle comprises two separate pressers 12 configured to engage with the edge 4.1 of the wings 4. Each presser 12 can be obtained from a molding of plastic material. The presser 12 advantageously makes it possible to absorb the forces in the event of a frontal impact so as to avoid damaging the front optics and the side wings 4.

[0050] Alternatively, the pressers 12 may be an integral part of a reinforcing portion of the bumper skin, said reinforcing portion being separate from the side crossbars. For this purpose, the transverse return of the crossbars may be adjusted in the transverse direction.

[0051] Figures 3 and 4 show, respectively, a perspective view of the upper and lower pins of the presser.

[0052] Referring to Figures 3 and 4, it can be seen that the pins 14 are identical and each comprise the distal portion 14.1 and a proximal portion 14.2 comprising a reduced thickness compared to the distal portion 14.1.

[0053] Indeed, the distal portion 14.1 has an increase in thickness compared to the proximal portion 14.2 so as to form a retaining face 15 for the transverse return of the bumper skin.

[0054] The proximal portion 14.1 comprises, in this configuration, two parallel faces corresponding to the face 12.1 of the presser 12 and to the retaining face 15 belonging to the distal portion 14.1.

[0055] Advantageously, the proximal portion 14.1 is delimited by the two faces 12.1 and 15, and is configured to accommodate both the edge of the wing and the transverse return of the skin.

[0056] In this regard, the retaining face 15 has a spacing e with the face 12.1 preferably between 1 and 4 mm, and more preferably equal to 3.5 mm.

[0057] Preferably, the proximal portion 14.1 comprises a recess 12.2 in the presser 12 at the foot of the pin 14 advantageously allowing the demolding of an interior portion (in the transverse direction) and facilitating the passage of the transverse return of the lateral crossbars. The presser 12 further comprises guide ribs 18 extending in the transverse adjustment direction of the bumper skin and are dimensioned to stress and longitudinally press the transverse return of the lateral crossbars against the retaining face 15 of the centering pin 14. The ribs 18 thus make it possible to ensure a clearance-free mounting of the rim and the transverse return between the face 12.1 and the retaining face 15.

[0058] The left part of Figure 5 represents a perspective view of the transverse return 6.2 of the bumper skin 6, and the right part of Figure 5 schematically represents the transverse engagement of the transverse return 6.2 with the centering pins 14.

[0059] It can be seen that the transverse return 6.2 of the stock 6.1 comprises two notches 20 and 22 opening transversely towards the interior of the motor vehicle (along the adjustment direction), each being configured to overlap the proximal portion 14.1 of the corresponding pin 14.

[0060] The two notches 20 and 22 have a proximal portion 24 with two parallel edges 24.1.

[0061] The upper notch 20 comprises a distal portion 26 having a widening width, forming two divergent edges 26.1, following the direction of transverse adjustment of the bumper skin 6, in a direction E of engagement with the corresponding centering pin 14.

[0062] The bumper skin 6 is mounted on the wing (not shown here) of the motor vehicle by the transverse engagement E of each of the two notches 20 and 22 with the centering pins 14.

[0063] It should be noted that the presser 12 is previously mounted on the wing edge and the pins 14 pass through the centering holes. The edge has not been illustrated in the right part of figure 4 so as to facilitate reading of the figure.

[0064] The engagement of the notches 20 and 22 with the pins may include a lateral separation of each of the two side crosspieces 6.1 of the motor vehicle.

[0065] Preferably, the centering pin 14 comprises a reinforcement 17 corresponding to a ramp 17 extending from the face 12.1 of the presser 12 towards the proximal portion 14.2 in a direction opposite to that of the transverse engagement E. Advantageously, the reinforcement 17 makes it possible to stiffen the proximal portion 14.2.

[0066] Following the engagement of the transverse return 6.2 with the presser 12 and the wing edge, the screwing of the assembly can be carried out. Advantageously, the mounting of the bumper skin on the motor vehicle is carried out transversely in a simple and rapid manner, and this, without risk of damage to the elements of the front face of the motor vehicle.
