The invention relates to a laminar element (1) made up of a plurality of sheets, comprising an upper first sheet (2), a second sheet (4) comprising at least one lateral segment made of a light-permeable material (41), wherein said lateral segment made of a light- permeable material comprises a light entry surface (45, 47) and a light exit surface (43), a light-emitting device (6), arranged next to said light entry surface (45), such that the light emitted by said light-emitting device enters said lateral segment made of a light- permeable material through said one light entry surface (45), and exits said lateral segment made of a light-permeable material through said light exit surface (43), and wherein, between said first upper sheet (2) and said at least one lateral segment made of a light-permeable material (41) there is an intermediate third sheet (8) of aluminium. The laminar element (1) according to the invention allows the safety of the products in which it is incorporated to be improved, while at the same time allowing the technical properties of said products to be maintained. The invention further relates to a countertop, and to a step comprising said laminar element (1).
