Abstract

A wrapping cloth is provided that can be used to wrap various items in an artful manner and that is reusable. The wrapping cloth is a piece of fabric having a geometric shape which includes a tab with a band on a first surface and a pocket on the second surface. The fabric is folded over an object placed on the fabric and the band, which has some elasticity to it, is placed around the corners of the fabric that are folded over the object. A WRAPPING CLOTH AND A METHOD OF USING THE WRAPPING CLOTHFIELD OF DISCLOSURE

[0001] The overall field of this invention generally pertains to a versatile, Japanese-style wrapping cloth (furoshiki) that can wrap various articles of varying sizes and shapes.BACKGROUND

[0002] Unwrapping a gift is a treasured moment. A gift is enclosed in some sort of material, typically a wrapping paper. Wrapping paper is specifically designed for gift wrapping and discarded after unwrapping the enclosed gift. An alternative to wrapping paper is using a gift box or a bag, which can be reused.

[0003] Though gift wrapping is associated with happy events, there are drawbacks to enclosing a gift in the above-mentioned options. The first is the amount of waste and economic loss generated by using traditional gift wrap or wrapping paper. Paper inherently retains creases and is prone to tearing, rendering it difficult to reuse. Wrapping paper is also difficult to recycle, with some local authorities declining to accept used wrapping paper for recycling (https: / / www.recyclenow.com / recycle-an-item / wrapping-paper). Despite this advantage, there are some drawbacks to furoshiki, or wrapping cloths. Like origami, wrapping and tying knots artfully with fabric can be confusing and difficult, especially to those who are unaccustomed to the art. Additionally, when an object wrapped in the furoshiki is removed, one is left with a large piece of fabric, which may be stored in another bag or folded and stored somewhere. There are furoshiki that have pockets or similar structures. One such furoshiki includes a bag itself affixed to a part of the furoshiki. While this item can be used as regular furoshiki, the bag is intended to be used for carrying larger items and not to store the furoshiki compactly. Another known furoshiki includes a water repellent pocket (holder) on the inside. This pocket on the furoshiki focuses on holding small personal objects, and the pocket is not conducive to being turned inside out, or to contain the furoshiki. Additionally, usage (e.g. wrapping, folding, tying, etc.) of furoshiki themselves may not seem straightforward or be clear as they are just a flat piece of fabric.

[0005] Accordingly, there is still an unsolved need for an improved wrapping cloth that may address these and other existing issues.SUMMARY

[0006] One or more embodiments are provided below for a wrapping cloth that can be used to wrap various items. A sliding elastic band fitted within a tab on the wrapping cloth would beused to artfully close the folded wrapping cloth over the object. The wrapping cloth, when not in use, is folded into an integrated pocket for portability and storage. The pocket is integrated on one side of the wrapping cloth, and a sliding band and a tab are integrated on an opposite side. The pocket may be fashioned from a stretchy material to allow the folded wrapping cloth to fit within. The pocket may also have a loop sewn onto the inside, so that it can be looped onto a backpack, bag, belt loop, etc., as well as a fabric flap / lid to prevent slippery material from spilling out of the pocket.

[0007] In another aspect of the present invention, several examples of wrapping cloths are presented with visual indicia to create a guide to wrap an item with the wrapping cloth. The visual indicia are integrated on the wrapping cloth and positioned in pre-determined sequences to guide positioning of an item and sequence of folding the wrapping cloth over the item to form a neat, hand-wrapped appearance.

[0032] Referring to the figures, FIGS. 1 and 2 illustrate a wrapping cloth 100 for packaging and / or wrapping by surrounding an article. The wrapping cloth 100 comprises a flat expanse of fabric having a first surface 101 and a second surface 102. FIG. 1 illustrates the first surface 101 which may be exemplified as an inner concealed surface and FIG. 2 illustrates the second surface 102 which may be exemplified as an outer exposed surface when an item is wrapped in the wrapping cloth 100. An article for enveloping items comprising: a geometrical shaped fabric having two opposing surfaces, a first surface and a second surface, and a plurality of comers; a pocket included on the first surface; a tab and a band included on the second surface, wherein the band is integrated with the tab, wherein the band slides along the tab; and wherein, the article when in an unfolded state is adapted to receive an item and the plurality of corners are folded over and / or brought together to enclose the item, and the band integrated on the tab is placed around the plurality of comers at a top of the item to encase the item or the band integrated in the tab is placed around the item enclosed in the geometrical shaped fabric.

2. The article of claim 1, wherein the geometrical shaped fabric includes a polygon shape.

3. The article of claim 1, wherein the pocket is placed centrally or off-center on the first surface.

4. The article of claim 1, wherein the pocket is positioned on the geometrical shaped fabric such that edges of the pocket are parallel to, diagonal to, or at any angle to edges of the geometrical shaped fabric.

5. The article of claim 1, wherein the tab and the band are integrated proximal to one of the plurality of corners.

6. The article of claim 1, wherein the tab is a length of material with two ends, wherein both ends of the tab are permanently affixed to the second surface.

7. The article of claim 1, wherein the tab is a length of material with two ends, wherein one or both ends is detachably affixed to the second surface.

8. The article of claim 1 , wherein the pocket includes a flap which includes a fastener on a surface facing away from the first surface of the geometrical shaped fabric when the flap is extended away from the pocket, and wherein a corresponding fastener is included on the first surface at an opening of the pocket.

9. The article of claim 8, wherein the flap is folded into the pocket allowing the fasteners on the flap and the first surface to engage to close the opening in the pocket.

10. The article of claim 8, wherein the pocket contains the geometrical shaped fabric when the geometrical shaped fabric is gathered toward the pocket and the pocket is turned inside out pushing the gathered geometrical shaped fabric inward, wherein the fastener on the flap faces the fastener on the first surface whereby the opening in the pocket is closed by engaging the fasteners on the flap and the first surface, and a loop integrated on an inside of the pocket isextended outward, wherein the loop is permanently affixed to the inside of the pocket or includes one or both ends that are detachable.

11. The article of claim 1, wherein the first surface of the geometrical shaped fabric includes visual indicia permanently included on the first surface to indicate placement of objects to be enveloped and / or where the geometrical shaped fabric is to be folded.

12. An article for enveloping gifts comprising: a completely curved geometrical shaped fabric having two opposing surfaces, a first surface and a second surface; a pocket included on the first surface; a tab and a band included on the second surface, wherein the band is integrated with the tab, wherein the band slides along the tab; and wherein, the article when in an unfolded state is adapted to receive an item and edges of the completely curved geometrical shaped fabric are folded over and / or brought together to enclose the item, and the band integrated on the tab is placed around the edges of the completely curved geometric shaped fabric at a top of the item or the band integrated on the tab is placed around the item enclosed in the completely curved geometrical shaped fabric.

13. The article of claim 12, wherein the pocket is placed centrally or off-center on the first surface.

14. The article of claim 12, wherein the tab and band are integrated proximal to the edge of the completely curved geometrical shaped fabric.

15. The article of claim 12, wherein the tab is a length of material with two ends, wherein both ends of the tab are permanently affixed to the second surface.

16. The article of claim 12, wherein the tab is a length of material with two ends, wherein one or both ends is detachably affixed to the second surface.

17. The article of claim 12, wherein the pocket includes a flap which includes a fastener on a surface facing away from the first surface of completely curved geometric shaped fabric when the flap is extended away from the pocket, and wherein a corresponding fastener is included on the first surface at an opening of the pocket.

18. The article of claim 17, wherein the flap is folded into the pocket allowing the fasteners on the flap and the first surface to engage to close the opening in the pocket.

The article of claim 17, wherein the pocket contains the completely curved geometrical shaped fabric when the completely curved geometrical shaped fabric is gathered toward the pocket and the pocket is turned inside out pushing the gathered completely curved geometrical shaped fabric inward, wherein the fastener on the flap faces the fastener on the first surface whereby the opening in the pocket is closed by engaging the fasteners on the flap and the first surface, and a loop integrated on an inside of the pocket is extended outward, wherein the loop is permanently affixed to the inside of the pocket or includes one or both ends that are detachable.
