Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a luminaire housing of a luminaire for holding and receiving a light module of the luminaire, wherein the luminaire housing has a sensor pod for encompassing a sensor, and the respective luminaire per se.
[0002] Commonly known luminaire housings usually are either configured to comprise a sensor or do not comprise a sensor, whereas a respective configuration is not to be changed after production of the respective housing. Hence, for different configurations, usually multiple different tooled frames or body solutions have to be made available. However, such special formed luminaire housings, or at least parts thereof, require high tooling investments and high quantity of individual tools, resulting in the production being more complicated and also more costly. Furthermore, for these special formed luminaire housings, the positioning of respective sensors is fixed and thus cannot be easily changed. As an alternative, some luminaire systems comprise externally mounted sensors that are not in direct contact with the luminaire housing or the luminaire per se. However these special scenarios, where the sensor is not placed in or at the luminaire housing, are not practical for every mounting or lighting scenario, and are thus not flexible with regard to their use cases.
[0003] Thus, the invention is concerned with the task of providing an improved luminaire housing, and further a respectively improved luminaire, each having a flexible configuration and adjustability concerning the installation of a respective sensor. This task is solved by the luminaire housing according to independent claim 1, respectively by the luminaire according to the subordinate claim 13. The invention is defined by the respective independent claim. Additional features of the invention are provided in the respective dependent claims.
[0004] According to the invention, a luminaire housing of a luminaire for holding and receiving a light module of the luminaire is provided. Hereby, the luminaire housing comprises: at least three longitudinal profile parts, forming side surfaces of the luminaire housing, wherein each profile part extends along its longitudinal axis over a respective length and extends perpendicular to its longitudinal axis over a respective height; a sensor pod for encompassing a sensor, wherein the sensor pod comprises a case that forms a sensor placement area inside the case.
[0005] Moreover, the at least three longitudinal profile parts together form a framework onto which a respective light module of the luminaire is attachable preferably on its top side, bottom side or on the inside of the framework. Furthermore, the sensor pod is connected to one of the at least three longitudinal profile parts and is mounted on a respective profile part at an inwardly or outwardly facing side of the framework.
[0006] Furthermore, a luminaire per se is provided, wherein the in particular is a ceiling luminaire or a wall luminaire for mounting in a ceiling or wall system, and wherein the luminaire comprises: a luminaire housing according to an embodiment disclosed herein; and a light module comprising at least one light source, the light module being coupled to the luminaire housing, wherein the light module is mounted preferably on a top side, bottom side or on the inside of the framework of the luminaire housing.
[0007] With the such provided luminaire housing - and thus luminaire - an utmost flexible attachment of a respective sensor is achieved, with the sensor pod being mounted on the inside of the luminaire housing. The framework hereby allows for a flexible positioning of the sensor pod at the inside surface of a respective profile part, such that individual positioning of the sensor pod, and thus of a potential to be connected sensor, is provided. Hence, the luminaire housing can be easily adapted to respective situational requirements of the housing and the luminaire.
[0008] Optionally, the luminaire housing comprises at least four longitudinal profile parts, wherein one of the at least four longitudinal profile parts is arranged inside the framework as an intermediate strut, wherein the sensor pod is connected to the intermediate strut and is mounted on or in the respective profile part. Hence, with this configuration, besides the longitudinal profile parts that form the framework of the luminaire housing, also an additional longitudinal profile part is present placed in the inside of the framework as an intermediate element. This intermediate strut further improves stiffness and durability of the luminaire housing, and further provides an additional carrier for mounting elements, such as the sensor pod, to the luminaire housing. Here, the sensor pod may be coupled to the additional longitudinal profile part at an outer surface of the respective profile part, or may alternatively be mounted inside the respective profile part.
[0009] Optionally, the case comprises an access opening for accessing the sensor placement area at an underside of the sensor pod. With this implementation, the sensor placement area is easily accessible even in a state where the sensor pod is mounted to the luminaire housing. This further improves flexibility and ease of maintenance of the housing. Preferably the case further comprises a removable cap that is configured to close off the access opening. Hence, the access opening can be closed off when needed, providing an improved aesthetic and furthermore an improved sealing of the sensor pod and thus of the luminaire housing.
[0010] Optionally, the sensor pod is attached to the respective profile part via mechanic coupling elements, in particular via a tool-free coupling, especially via a snap-in coupling that interacts with the profile of the respective profile part. With this implementation an easy, straight forward, but yet durable and stable mounting connection of the sensor pod to the framework is established. Preferably the coupling elements are formed on a lower edge of the lateral surface of the case facing the respective profile part to which the sensor pod is connected. This further eases connection of the sensor pod with the respective profile part, whereas preferably the respective profile part has a corresponding inner holding element structure, such as an inward facing flange element, that allows interaction with the respective coupling elements of the sensor pod. Hereby, the positioning of the coupling elements at the lower edge of the sensor pod as well as the respective profile part further facilitate installation.
[0011] Optionally the sensor pod is repositionable along the length of the respective profile part. This allows for a flexible repositioning of the sensor pod, and thus of the sensor potentially mounted therein. Hence, the lifespan of the luminaire housing and thus the luminaire is increased, as the luminaire housing can be adapted to changing requirements.
[0012] Optionally, the connection between the sensor pod and the respective profile part is reversible. This implementation further improves sustainability of the luminaire housing, as the sensor pod then can not only be repositioned along the length of a respective profile part but also be removed to an other profile part. Moreover, maintenance of a defect sensor pod, or of a defect profile part where the sensor pod is attached to is further facilitated and improved. and / or
[0013] Optionally, the underside of the sensor pod is essentially level with a respective bottom edge of the respective profile part. This provides a preferred aesthetics of the luminaire housing. Preferably the sensor pod essentially extends over the height of the respective profile parts. With this implementation, the sensor placement area is sufficiently large for placement of one or more sensors, whereas furthermore the sensor pod may act as an additional contact structure for placing the light module thereon, further improving stability of the luminaire.
[0014] Optionally, the case of the sensor pod has at its lower edge a flange element for support of an optic in the area surrounding the sensor pod, whereas preferably the flange element is positioned at lower edges of the lateral surfaces of the case that are facing away from the respective profile part to which the sensor pod is connected. Hence, the such configured sensor pod further improves stability of the luminaire housing having an optic, and further prevents undesired light leakage in a vicinity area around the sensor pod.
[0015] Optionally, the luminaire housing further comprises an optic, wherein the optic is disposed within the luminaire housing and attached to at least two of the profile parts, wherein the optic forms a light emission surface. With this configuration the light emission properties of the luminaire are individually settable, with the characteristics of the optics being adaptable to a respective given lighting scenario. For example the optic may at least partially be opaque or clear, such that the level of a homogeneous light emission is configurable. Hereby preferably lower edges of the profile parts each comprise a respective inner holding element for attaching the optic, whereas preferably the optic is attached to at least two profile parts, and in particular to at least two opposing profile parts. This (inner) holding element of each respective profile part may in particular be formed at the inner side of the bottom edge of the profile part, and may hereby in particular be formed by an inner flange element. Also a holding element comprising two flange elements arranged one above the other in a distance corresponding to the thickness of a respective edge area of the optic may be provided for an improved durability of the connection between the optic and the framework. The attachment of the optic hereby is preferably realized on a side of the luminaire housing opposite to the side where the light module is to be attached. Preferably the optic is a diffusor, providing a diffuse light emission, and further preferably limiting the view from an outside of the luminaire housing into an inside of the luminaire housing, and thus the luminaire.
[0016] Optionally, the optic comprises a respective complementary recess for receiving the sensor pod, whereas the recess of the optic is arranged at an edge area of the optic facing the respective profile part having the sensor pod connected thereto. With this recess an interaction between the optic and the sensor pod is further improved.
[0017] Optionally, the recess is adapted to the sensor pod in terms of its dimensions and shape, and wherein the optic with its recess lies essentially flush against a lower edge of the case of the sensor pod, wherein preferably the area of the optic that is in vicinity to the recess is attached to the flange element of the sensor pod. This further improves the connection between the optic and the sensor pod, whereas the interaction between these components further improves stability of the luminaire housing.
[0018] Optionally, the optic is formed by: one optical sheet plate that is flat and preferably is arranged parallel to the plane where the light module is to be attached; or two curved light guide elements, which are connected to each other via a coupling part, wherein preferably the recess is formed at a straight edge of one of the curved light guide elements, whereby preferably at least one support element is placed inside the luminaire housing, further preferably in contact with a respective longitudinal profile part, whereby the support element is adapted to the curved shape of the optic, wherein the support element interacts with the luminaire housing and the optic; three optical parts, which comprise two lateral curved light guide elements and a plate-shaped central optical part arranged in-between the two lateral curved light guide elements, whereby between the central optical part and each lateral curved light guide element a coupling part is provided, which connects the optical parts, to each other, wherein the recess is formed at a straight edge of one of the curved light guide elements, whereby preferably at least one support element is placed inside the luminaire housing, further preferably in contact with a respective longitudinal profile part, whereby the support element is adapted to the shape of the assembled optical parts, wherein the support element interacts with the luminaire housing and the optic. Hereby in an additional exemplary variant the optic further comprises additional optical elements, such as lenses or louvres, that are positioned on top of the central optical part facing the respective light module when coupled to the luminaire housing.
[0019] With these different exemplary implementations of an optic, various different light emission characteristics of the luminaire are generable, resulting in a luminaire housing, and thus luminaire that is more flexible with regard to a respective desired light emission configuration. Also, with the respective positioning of the recess adapted to the desired position of the sensor pod, the flexibility and individualization possibilities of the luminaire housing, and thus the luminaire are further improved.
[0020] Optionally, each of the profile parts is an extruded profile part formed by extrusion. With this configuration, the profile parts are formed identical with regard to their profile, but can be easily and flexibly produced with a respective desired length, improving form and dimension flexibility of the luminaire housing. Moreover, the such produced profile parts, are utmost durable and reliable.
[0021] Optionally, each of the profile parts is made out of aluminium. This implementation allows for a lightweight but stable and durable luminaire housing providing a respective stiffness optimal for modularly attaching respective components to the luminaire housing.
[0022] Optionally, each of the profile parts has outer flange structures at their lower edges. These outer flange structures improve aesthetics of the luminaire housing, and thus the luminaire, but also can be used for mounting and in particular clamping the respective luminaire housing in a respective opening of a ceiling or wall. Furthermore, these outer flange structures may act as a complementary coupling part for connecting with an other structural part of the luminaire housing.
[0023] Optionally, the height of the at least three longitudinal profile parts is uniform. This allows for a facilitated mounting of the light module of the luminaire.
[0024] Optionally, the luminaire housing comprises at least three corner parts, defining the corners of the luminaire housing, wherein the longitudinal profile parts and the corner parts together form the framework onto which a respective light module of the luminaire is attachable on its top side, whereby each corner part is configured to hold end sections of respective two of the at least three profile parts in a fixed position via its respective coupling elements. This implementation of the luminaire housing, and in particular of the framework, provides an utmost stable and durable modular approach for forming the luminaire housing, respectively the framework. Hereby preferably each corner part has coupling elements for coupling with respective complementary coupling parts of the respective profile parts. This further improves coupling between the components and thus further improves stability of the luminaire housing. Preferably, the corner parts are essentially pillar-shaped, whereby each corner part substantially extends perpendicular to the longitudinal axes of the profile parts over a respective height, whereas further preferably the height of each corner part is uniform, whereas further preferably the height of each corner part is greater than the height of the respective profile parts.
[0025] Optionally, the luminaire housing further comprises a mounting mechanism for mounting the luminaire housing to a ceiling or wall system, wherein preferably the mounting mechanism in particular comprises one mounting arm per corner part, wherein each mounting arm is transferable from a respective mounting position to a respective operating position via a transitional movement. With this implementation, the luminaire housing and thus the luminaire can be used in various installation scenarios, whereas mounting is realized in an easy and straightforward manner.
[0026] Optionally, the sensor pod is configured to be in contact with the light module, forming an interface for electronically connecting a respective sensor installed in the sensor pod with the light module. With this configuration, the sensor pod is configured for an easy connection between a respective inserted sensor and the light module. Preferably, the mechanic and / or electronic connection is hereby realized via the base plate of the light module.
[0027] Optionally the luminaire further comprises a sensor that is positioned inside the sensor pod. With this configuration, the sensor is included in the luminaire.
[0028] Optionally, the luminaire housing, and in particular the profile parts and / or the corner parts, each have a mounting surface for coupling with the light module. This configuration further eases attachment of the light module to the framework, respectively to the luminaire housing, and provides a further stable connection. Hereby preferably the light module: is placed on the luminaire housing from the outside on an upper side of the luminaire housing in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the profile parts of the luminaire housing; or is coupled to the luminaire housing via a hinge coupling forming a pivot axis, whereas the hinge coupling is formed between two corner parts of the luminaire housing on the luminaire housing, whereby the light module is placed on the luminaire housing in a pivoting movement about the pivot axis formed by the hinge coupling.
[0029] Hence, various forms of coupling between the luminaire housing and the light module are conceivable. While the hinged coupling (pivoted attaching) requires less additional fixation means - such as screws, pins or the like - for coupling the light module on the top side of the framework to at least some profile parts, as the hinges replace such fixation means, the coupling via straight-lined attaching the light module is less complex. In a further alternative exemplary embodiment thereof, the light module is preferably placed on the luminaire housing from the outside on an upper side of the luminaire housing in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the profile parts of the luminaire housing, wherein the two components are coupled to each other via coupling elements, e.g., formed by a snap-fit coupling comprising snap-in elements. Preferably these snap-in / snap-fit elements may be integrally formed with the luminaire housing and / or with the light module, establishing an utmost preferred secure, tight and easy coupling. This may also be realized with the coupling via the hinge coupling. Hence, preferably the luminaire housing and the light module are fixed to each other via fixation means, such as screws and / or snap-fit elements.
[0030] Furthermore, another version of the luminaire according to the invention is presented, wherein the luminaire comprises: a luminaire housing for holding and receiving a light module of the luminaire and a light module comprising at least one light source, the light module being coupled to the luminaire housing, wherein the light module is preferably mounted on a top side of the luminaire housing. Here the luminaire housing comprises: at least three longitudinal profile parts, forming side surfaces of the luminaire housing, wherein each profile part extends along its longitudinal axis over a respective length and extends perpendicular to its longitudinal axis over a respective height, wherein the at least three longitudinal profile parts together form a framework; a sensor pod for encompassing a sensor, wherein the sensor pod comprises a case that forms a sensor placement area inside the case; an optic, wherein the optic is disposed within the luminaire housing and attached to at least two of the profile parts, wherein the optic forms a light emission surface, wherein the optic is preferably a diffusor. Moreover, the sensor pod is connected and mounted to respective in the optic. Hence, in this version of the luminaire housing and the luminaire per se, the sensor pod is directly attached to the respective optic of the luminaire housing. Hence, the positioning of the sensor pod is utmost flexible along the area of the optic - whereas a connection of the sensor pod to the framework, respectively to one of the profile parts is not necessary. Here, a respective attachment to the optic, respectively to a respective recess of the optic, may be realized via coupling elements such as snap fit elements or the like.
[0031] As apparent, each of the herein disclosed exemplary implementations can be combined with one another. In particular embodiments of the various implementations are interchangeable. For example, the various embodiments of the optic, and / or the framework, and / or the sensor pod, and / or the like, are equally valid for the first described version of the luminaire housing, respectively the luminaire, as well as the above described another version (i.e., second version) of the luminaire, respectively the luminaire housing, per se.
[0032] Therefore, various implementations of a luminaire housing and a luminaire are provided, each directed for further facilitating the implementation of a respective sensor via the respective sensor pod, and positioning of the respective luminaire to allow for an utmost versatile operation of the luminaire and thus of the respective sensor.
[0033] The invention is explained in detail below, with reference to examples of embodiments and with reference to the drawings. The figures show Figure 1a schematic illustration in an angled view from above of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire housing according to the invention; Figure 2a schematic illustration in an angled view from above of an exploded diagram of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire housing according to the invention with assembly directions of individual components thereof; Figure 3Aa schematic illustration in an angled view from below of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire housing, showing assembly of an exemplary embodiment of a sensor pod to the framework of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire housing; Figure 3Ban enlarged view of the assembly of an exemplary embodiment of a sensor pod to the framework of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire housing from an underside of Figure 3A; Figure 4Aa schematic illustration in an angled view from below of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire housing, showing an exemplary embodiment of a sensor pod mounted to the framework of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire housing; Figure 4Ban enlarged view of the assembly of an exemplary embodiment of a sensor pod to the framework of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire housing from an underside of Figure 3A; Figure 5a schematic illustration in a cross-sectional view from a side of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire housing in a cross-section perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the respective optic of the luminaire housing, with an exemplary embodiment of a sensor pod mounted to the framework of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire housing; Figure 6a schematic illustration in an angled view from above of assembly of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire according to the invention, with the light module being mounted on top of a respective exemplary embodiment of a luminaire housing; Figure 7a schematic illustration in an angled view from above of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire according to the invention; Figure 8a schematic illustration in an angled view from below of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire, with the sensor pod being mounted on a respective profile part at an inwardly facing side of the framework; Figure 9a schematic illustration of different exemplary implementations of an optic; Figure 10a schematic illustration in an angled view from below of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire, with the sensor pod being mounted on a respective profile part at an outwardly facing side of the framework; Figure 11a schematic illustration in an angled view from below of an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire with an additional profile part as an intermediate strut, wherein the sensor pod is connected to the intermediate strut; Figure 12a schematic illustration in an angled view from below of an exemplary embodiment of another version of the luminaire.
[0034] Figures 1 to 5 show different views of different stages of assembly of an exemplary embodiment of a respective luminaire housing 10. Figures 6, 7 and 8 show different views and different stages of assembly of an exemplary embodiment of luminaire 1, comprising a respective exemplary embodiment of a luminaire housing 10. Figure 9 exemplary shows different embodiments of a respective optic 700 that is possibly part of the luminaire housing 10. Figures 10 to 12 further provide other exemplary implementations of the luminaire housing 10, respectively the luminaire 1 per se, with regard to the positioning of the sensor pod 900. Hence, the Figures 1 to 12 show different implementations of components of the luminaire housing 10, or the luminaire 1 per se, whereas it is apparent that the different implementations of individual components of the luminaire housing 10 and the luminaire 1 are compatible with each other, so that individual features shown in the different Figures 1 to 12 are interchangeable.
[0035] Figure 1 shows an exemplary embodiment of a luminaire housing 10 according to the invention in a fully assembled state from an angled view from above. Hereby it is apparent that the luminaire housing 10 of the luminaire 1 for holding and receiving a light module 500 of the luminaire 1 comprises respective longitudinal profile parts 100, forming side surfaces of the luminaire housing 10. Hereby each profile part 100 extends along its longitudinal axis over a respective length and extends perpendicular to its longitudinal axis over a respective height. While in the exemplary embodiments of Figures 1 to 8, as well as Figure 10 and 12, each shown luminaire housing 10 comprises four longitudinal profile parts 100, it is apparent that in other embodiments of the luminaire housing 10 also configurations are conceivable having more than four longitudinal profile parts 100. Also fewer than four longitudinal profile parts 100, such as three longitudinal profile parts 100, are possible. Hereby it is merely necessary that the respective longitudinal profile parts 100 together form a framework onto which a respective light module 500 of the luminaire 1 is attachable, e.g., on its top side. Additional profile parts 100 may be included, e.g., as an intermediate element, such as an intermediate strut 109, as exemplary shown in Figure 11. Hence, as a minimum requirement, at least three longitudinal profile parts 100 are required to form a respective framework.
[0036] Furthermore, other attachments of the light module 500, e.g., from the bottom side or on the inside of the framework are conceivable. Here, various light emissions may be formed with the light module 500, as an indirect or direct illumination can be achieved. Furthermore, the light module 500 may be configured for an edge lit light emission into a respective optic 700, whereas here an attachment of the light module 500 inside the framework is preferred.
[0037] Furthermore, as visible in each of the Figures 1 to 6 and 8, as well as Figures 10 to 12 the luminaire housing 10, respectively the luminaire 1, further comprises a sensor pod 900 for encompassing a sensor, wherein the sensor pod 900 comprises a case 910 that forms a sensor placement area 940 inside or at the case 910. Here, the sensor pod 900 is connected to one of the at least three longitudinal profile parts 100 and is mounted on a respective profile part 100 at an inwardly or outwardly facing side of the framework. For example Figures 1 to 8 show an inwardly mounted sensor pod 900, whereas Figure 10 shows an outwardly mounted sensor pod 900. In this regard Figure 11 also shows a sensor pod 900 mounted on the inside of the framework, as here the sensor pod 900 is mounted on a respective intermediate strut 109. Also Figure 12 shows a sensor pod 900 being mounted on the inside of the luminaire housing 10, as here the sensor pod 900 is connected to and mounted to the respective optic 700 of the luminaire housing 10, respectively of the luminaire 1. Hence, the sensor pod 900, for encompassing a sensor, is positioned inside or outside the luminaire housing 10. Moreover, as the light module 500 is to be preferably attached on a top side of the framework of the luminaire housing 10 and the sensor pod 900 is attached to the framework at an inside thereof, the sensor pod 900 is arranged subsequent to the light module 500 in the luminaire housing 10 viewed in light emission direction of the light module 500. This is clearly visible in particular in Figures 1, 5 and Figure 6. Here, also other ways for attaching the light module 500 are conceivable, as for example an attachment from the bottom side is possible. Also the light module 500 may be attached to an inside of the framework, in particular for providing an edge lit light emission via a respective edge lit optic 700 of the luminaire 1.
[0038] In the shown embodiments, the case 910 comprises an access opening 950, for accessing the sensor placement area 940 from an underside of the sensor pod 900. Thus, in an attached state of the case 910, respectively of the sensor pod 900, the inside of the sensor pod 900 is still accessible through the access opening 950, without the need of reversing the already performed installation of a respective luminaire 1, or assembly of a respective luminaire housing 10. Here, in a preferred embodiment, the case 910 further comprises a removable cap 930 that is configured to close off the access opening 950, when attached to the case 910. This is also shown in Figures 3A, 3B, 4A and 4B. Hence, the inside of the sensor pod 900, i.e. the sensor placement area 940, is flexibly covered from an underside of the luminaire 1, respectively of the luminaire housing 10, whereas the opening 950 may remain opened without the removable cap 930 being attached thereto. Thus, with the opened access opening 950, and a sensor being placed inside the sensor placement area 940 of the sensor pod 900, the respective sensor may monitor a respective area positioned below the luminaire 1, respectively the luminaire housing 10.
[0039] A coupling between the sensor pod 900 and the framework hereby may be achieved by attaching the sensor pod 900 to the respective profile part 100 via mechanic coupling elements 920, in particular via a tool-free coupling, especially via a snap-in coupling 920 that interacts with the respective profile of the respective profile part 100. For this purpose, the profile parts 100 may each comprise respective profiles at their lower edge 120. Here, for attaching the sensor pod 900 to a respective profile part 100, the sensor pod 900 is clipped into the profile of the respective profile part 100. These coupling elements 920 of the sensor pod 900 are preferably formed on a lower edge of the lateral surface of the case 910, facing the respective profile part 100, to which the sensor pod 900 is connected. This is in particular shown in detail in Figures 3B and 4B, respectively the overall picture of Figures 3A and 4A. Figures 1 to 5, 6 and 8 also indicate the respective coupling between a sensor pod 900 and a respective profile part 100. Hereby, preferably, the connection between the sensor pod 900 and the respective profile part 100 is reversible. This allows for an utmost flexible positioning of the sensor pod 900 and allows for situational changes and re-use of parts of the luminaire housing 10 as well as the luminaire 1.
[0040] As in particular indicated in Figures 1, 4A, 4B, 5, 6 and 8, the underside of the sensor pod 900 is essentially level with a respective bottom edge of the respective profile part 100. Hence, the lower edge 120 of a respective profile part 100 substantially is flush and level with a respective underside, i.e. with a respective bottom edge, of the sensor pod 900. As also exemplary indicated in the aforementioned figures, the sensor pod 900 essentially extends over the height of the respective profile parts 100, such that the respective sensor placement area 940 essentially extends from a bottom edge of the luminaire housing 10 towards an upper edge of the luminaire housing 10. Hence the sensor placement area 940 allows for placement of different and / or multiple sensors within the sensor pod 900. Furthermore, as the sensor pod 900 is flexibly attachable to respective positions at the respective present profile parts 100, the sensor pod 900 is repositionable along the length of the respective profile part 100. Hereby, as discussed later on in detail, when a respective optic 700 is part of the luminaire housing 10, the optic 700 ideally is adapted to the respective desired position of the sensor pod 900.
[0041] With regard to the shown exemplary embodiments of the luminaire 1, it is apparent that a respective luminaire 1 comprises a respective luminaire housing 10 and a light module 500 that comprises at least one light source 510. Hereby the light module 500 is coupled to the luminaire housing 10, wherein the light module 500 is mounted on a top side of the luminaire housing 10. While the top side of the framework, hence of the luminaire housing 10, is configured for mounting of the respective light module 500 of the luminaire 1, the opposite side of the framework, hence of the luminaire housing 10, i.e. the underside of the framework, respectively of the luminaire housing 10, forms a light emission side of the luminaire housing 10, respectively the luminaire 1. In a preferred embodiment the luminaire 1 also comprises at least one respective sensor that is positioned inside the sensor pod 900.
[0042] Also - not explicitly shown in the figures - the sensor pod 900 may be configured to be in contact with the light module 500, forming an interface for electronically connecting a respective sensor installed in the sensor pod 900 with the light module 500. Furthermore, alternatively or additionally a side of the sensor pod 900 that faces the respective profile part 100, where the sensor pod 900 is connected to, may comprise an opening, through which respective electronic coupling elements, such as wires or the like may be passed to an inside of the luminaire housing 10.
[0043] Moreover, the luminaire housing 10 has, and in particular the profile parts 100 and / or the corner parts 200 each have a mounting surface for coupling with the light module 500. Hereby, preferably, the light module 500 is placed on the luminaire housing 10 on an upper side of the luminaire housing 10 in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the profile parts 100 of the luminaire housing 10. This is exemplary shown in Figures 6 and 7. In an alternative, the light module 500 is coupled to the luminaire housing 10 via a hinge-coupling, forming a pivot axis, whereas the hinge-coupling is formed between two corner parts 200 of the luminaire housing 10, and whereby the light module 500 is placed on the luminaire housing 10 in a pivoting movement above the pivot axis formed by the hinge-coupling. This latter implementation is not shown in the provided figures.
[0044] In a further alternative exemplary embodiment, the coupling between the light module 500 and the luminaire housing 10 may be realized via a snap-fit coupling, preferably comprising snap-in elements, whereas these elements may be integrally formed with the respective luminaire housing 10, and hereby in particular with the framework thereof, and / or the light module 500 per se. This implementation further preferably is realized with the embodiment of the light module 500 being placed on the luminaire housing 10 from the outside on an upper side of the luminaire housing 10 in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the profile parts 100 of the luminaire housing 100.
[0045] As apparent from the shown embodiments, in implementations of the luminaire housing 10 having an optic 700, the optic 700 is also embedded on an inside of the framework. Hereby different implementations and configurations of the respective optic 700 are possible, as shown exemplary in detail in Figure 9. If a respective optic 700 is present at the luminaire housing 10, then the optic 700 forms a light emission surface of the luminaire housing 10, and thus of the luminaire 1.
[0046] Figure 9 shows different exemplary embodiments with the implementations A, B, C and D, whereas each implementation of the respective optic 700 deals with respective special lighting scenarios. As shown in implementation D, the optic 700 is formed by one optical sheet plate 705 that is mounted in the luminaire housing 10 on a side of the luminaire housing 10 opposite to the light module 500. The second shown exemplary embodiment of the optic 700 comprises two parts, namely two curved light guide elements 710 (wing elements 710), which are connected to each other via a coupling part 730, whereas these wing-shaped guide elements 710 are clipped, rotated and / or slid on the respective coupling part 730. The coupling part 730 may in particular be an aluminium extrusion part.
[0047] With this fixed attachment of the parts of the optic 700, the optic 700 is formed in a durable manner, whereby the lateral edges of the curved light guide element 710 form respective connection areas, where the optic 700 is attached to the respective framework, formed by the respective longitudinal profile parts 100. This is likewise true for the other exemplary embodiments shown in implementation A and B of Figure 9, whereas hereby the optic 700 again comprises two curved light guide elements 710. Here these two curved light guide elements 710 are connected to a respective plate-shaped central optical part 720 via respective coupling parts 730. As shown in implementation B of Figure 9, the central plate-shaped optical part 720 may act as a contact face for attaching additional optical elements 740, such as lenses or louvers to the optic 700.
[0048] Hereby, the optic 700, respectively parts thereof, may have specific light emission properties, respectively adapted properties to match a respective desired light emission scenario, whereby the optic 700, or at least parts thereof, may be opaque or clear for a respective desired level of diffuse light emission.
[0049] As apparent from the figures, and hereby especially from Figures 1 to 5, 6 and 8, the respective optic 700 comprises a respective complementary recess 790 for receiving the sensor pod 900, whereas the recess 790 of the optic 700 is arranged at an edge area of the optic 700, facing the respective profile part 100, having the sensor pod 900 connected thereto. Hence, if such an optic 700 is present with a respective embodiment of the luminaire housing 10, the optic 700 is adapted to match a respective desired position of the sensor pod 900, and thus of the desired position of a respective sensor placed inside the sensor pod 900. Here, the optic 700 comprises the respective complementary recess 790 for receiving the sensor pod 900, whereas the recess 790 of the optic 700 is arranged at an edge area of the optic 700, facing the respective profile part 100, having the sensor pod 900 connected thereto.
[0050] As indicated in Figures 1, 2, 5, 6 and 8, the recess 790 is adapted to the sensor pod 900 in terms of its dimension and shape, wherein the optic 700 with its recess 790 lies essentially flush against the lower edge of the case 910 of the sensor pod 900. Here, the sensor pod 900 may also comprise a flange element 970 at its lower edge for support of attaching an optic 700 in the area surrounding the sensor pod 900 to the luminaire housing 10. Here, the flange element 970 is positioned at lower edges of the lateral surfaces of the case 910 of the sensor pod 900, wherein the respective lateral surfaces of the case 910 are facing away from the respective profile part 100, to which the sensor pod 900 is connected, as in particular shown in Figures 1, 2, 3A, 3B, 4A, 4B, 6 and 8. Hence for a further improved stability, the area of the optic 700 that is in vicinity to the recess 790 is attached to the flange element 970 of the sensor pod 900.
[0051] If a respective luminaire housing 10 comprises an optic 700, the respective optic 700 is disposed within the luminaire housing 10 and hereby attached at least to one of the profile parts 100. This is exemplary shown in Figures 1, 2, 5, 6 and 8. Hereby the amount of contact faces between the respective optic 700 and the framework of the luminaire housing 10 is dependent on the respective implementation of the optic 700, as apparent in view of the figures and in particular in view of the different exemplary embodiments of the optic 700 shown in Figure 9. Hereby, one optical plate 705 preferably is connected over its four lateral side areas with the respective framework, whereas in view of the wing-shaped components 710 of optic 700 of implementations A, B and C of Figure 9, merely the straight edge of the respective curved light guide element 700 is configured for a respective stable connection to the framework, and hereby especially to the respective profile part 100. Hereby, for stability and light leakage reasons, the recess 790 is preferably formed at such a straight edge of one of the curved light guide elements 710. Hence, in view of the different implementations shown in Figure 9 A to D, the recess 790 is ideally always formed at a straight edge of the optic 700. Correspondingly, the sensor pod 900 is to placed within the luminaire housing 10 accordingly.
[0052] As indicated in Figures 2 and 6, at least one support element 800 may be placed inside the luminaire housing 10, when an optic 700 having curved light elements 710 is used, whereas the support element 800 is used for increasing stability of the mounting of the optic 700 and may further be used to reduce respective light leakage between the respective profile part 100 and the curved edge of the optic 700. This support element 800 is hereby placed inside the luminaire housing 10, and is preferably in contact with a respective longitudinal profile part 100 and is further adapted to the curved shape of the respective optic 700, wherein the support element 800 interacts with the respective profile part 100, and hence with the framework of the luminaire housing 10, and the optic 700.
[0053] As especially indicated in Figures 1, 2 and 8, the profile parts 100 may comprise at their lower edges 120 respective inner flange structures for attaching the optic 700, whereas hereby preferably the optic 700 is attached to at least two opposing profile parts 100. This is in particular shown in Figures 1, 2, 5, 6 and 8. The inner flange structure of the profile parts 100 are hereby formed at lower edges 120 of the respective profile parts 100, whereas this inner flange structure may further act as a contact phase for respective mechanic coupling elements 920 of the sensor pod 900.
[0054] As shown in the exemplary embodiments of Figures 1 to 8, as well as Figures 10 to 12, the luminaire housing 10 may further comprise at least three corner parts 200, defining the corners of the luminaire housing 10, and thus the corners of the framework. The respective the longitudinal profile parts 100 and the corner parts 200 thus together form the framework, onto which a respective light module 500 of the luminaire 1 is attachable on its top side. Hereby, each corner part 200 is configured to hold end sections 101 of respective two of the at least three profile parts 100 in a fixed position via its respective coupling elements 201. Thus, each corner part 200 has means for attaching two profile parts 100 together via the respective corner part 200. In the shown embodiments, the four corner parts 200 couple the respective four profile parts 100. As further indicated in the aforementioned figures, each corner part 200 preferably has coupling elements 201 for coupling with respective complementary coupling parts 110 of the respective profile parts 100. As shown, the corner parts 200 are essentially pillar-shaped, whereby each corner part 200 substantially extends perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the profile parts 100 over a respective height. Moreover, preferably the height of the corner part 200 is uniform, whereas further preferably the height of each corner part 200 is greater than the height of the respective profile parts 100. Furthermore, the respective corner parts 200 and / or the respective profile parts 100 may comprise a respective coupling area for coupling with the light module 500 of the luminaire 1. Furthermore, the sensor pod 900 may also comprise a respective mounting surface on its top side to further aid mounting and attaching the light module 500 to the luminaire housing 10.
[0055] Moreover, the luminaire housing 10 may further comprise a mounting mechanism 20 for mounting the luminaire housing 10 to a ceiling or a wall system. Hereby, the mounting mechanism 20 in particular may comprise one mounting arm 300 per corner part 200, wherein each mounting arm 300 is transferable from a respective mounting position to a respective operating position via a transitional movement. Such an operating position, wherein the mounting mechanism 20 holds the luminaire 1, respectively the luminaire housing 10, inside a respective recess of a ceiling or wall system is shown in Figures 3A, 4A, 7 and 8 with the mounting arms 300 protruding from the respective corner parts 200 and thus from the luminaire housing 10. In a respective mounting position, the mounting mechanism 20 is arranged such that the mounting mechanism 20, and in particular each mounting arm 300, does not interfere with a wall or ceiling structure while mounting the luminaire housing 10, respectively the luminaire 1, inside a respective recess of a ceiling or wall system.
[0056] Moreover embodiments of the luminaire housing 10, respectively of the luminaire 1, are conceivable where the sensor pod 900 is an integral part of an interchangeable, i.e., easily reversibly attachable profile part 100. Hence, there may be implementations with the sensor pod 900 being integrated to the profile part 100. Hereby, the respective profile part 100 may have a respective recess for encompassing the sensor pod 900.
[0057] In view of Figure 10, there is also an exemplary embodiment with an implementation of positioning the sensor pod 900 on an outwardly facing surface of the framework, respectively of a respective profile part 100 thereof. This implementation allows for an increase of the illuminance area of the respective luminaire 1. The attachment of the sensor pod 900 may be formed analogously to the previous mentioned implementations. Here the shown exemplary implementation of the optic 700 is not limited thereto, but may in particular be any of the herein described forms, such as exemplary shown in Figure 9.
[0058] Figure 11 shows a further exemplary implementation of the luminaire housing 10, respectively of the luminaire 1, having an additional profile part 100, whereas this profile part 100 is arranged within the framework formed by the respective at least three profile parts 100 (in the shown example: formed by the respective four profile parts 100). This additional profile part 100 hereby forms an intermediate strut 109. With this intermediate strut 109 the durability and stiffness of the luminaire housing 10, and thus of the luminaire 1, is further increased. Moreover, the sensor pod 900 is coupled to this additional profile part 100, respectively to this intermediate strut 109, wherein here the sensor pod 900 is integrated into this profile part 100. Also, other implementations where the sensor pod 900 is arranged at a side surface of the intermediate strut 109 are possible, whereas here the sensor pod 900 may reversibly connected thereto. The intermediate strut 109 may also be arranged in diagonal between respective corners of the framework. Here the shown exemplary implementation of the optic 700 is not limited thereto, but may in particular be any of the herein described forms, such as exemplary shown in Figure 9.
[0059] In Figure 12 another version of the luminaire housing 10, respectively the luminaire 1, is shown, whereas here the sensor pod 900 is connected to and mounted in the optic 700 of the luminaire housing 10. Here the sensor pod 900 may in particular be reversibly mounted to the optic 700. The optic hereby comprises a respective recess 790 where the sensor pod 900 is to be positioned. The previously mentioned features of the components of the luminaire housing 10, respectively of the luminaire 1, may also be incorporated to this other version shown in Figure 12. Here the shown exemplary implementation of the optic 700 is not limited thereto, but may in particular be any of the herein described forms, such as exemplary shown in Figure 9. Hence, the sensor pod 900 may preferably be adapted to the respective lower surface shape of the optic 700, and further to the respective available depth inside the luminaire housing 10 between the optic 700 and a respective backplate, light module 500 or the like at the respective desired position of the sensor pod 900.
[0060] As visible from the exemplary shown embodiments in the figures, each of the profile parts 100 may be an extruded profile part formed by extrusion and / or wherein each of the profile parts 100 is made out of aluminium.
[0061] Moreover, as discussed before, the profile parts 100 may have an inner flange structure at their lower edge 120 of the profile parts 100, whereas additionally or alternatively each of the profile parts 100 may also comprise an outer flange structure at their lower edge 120, whereas this outer flange structure may interact with a respective structure of a ceiling or a wall system to allow the luminaire 1, respectively the luminaire housing 10, being arranged flush at the respective wall or ceiling system. Also this outer flange structure may act as a counterpart of the mounting mechanism 20, allowing for an clamped fixture of the luminaire housing 10, respectively of the luminaire 1. Moreover, the height of the respective present longitudinal profile parts 100 ideally is uniform to further ease mounting and attaching the light module 500 on the top side of the luminaire housing 10.
[0062] With regard to the assembly process of the respective luminaire housing 10, according to an embodiment presented herein, the sensor pod 900 is ideally attached to a respective profile part 100 prior assembly of the framework, and thus prior assembling the framework around the respective optic 700. If the situational lighting requirements change, the respective position of the sensor pod 900 may be changed, whereas in this scenario if an optic 700 is desired, a respective updated version of the optic 700 is to be inserted.
[0063] Hence, with the provided and discussed different exemplary embodiments and implementations of the luminaire housing 10 and / or the luminaire 1, a respective luminaire housing 10 is achieved that allows for a modular setup of a respective sensor being positioned inside the luminaire housing 10 in a flexible but durable manner. Hereby, the sensor pod 900 of the luminaire housing 10 allows for a flexible and situation-oriented coupling of a respective sensor, wherein the sensor pod 900 is easily attached and preferably also easily repositioned within the luminaire housing 10. With the provided removable cap 930, that closes off the access opening 950 of the case 910 of the sensor pod 900, the luminaire housing 10, and thus the luminaire 1, has a preferred aesthetics - in particular when no sensor is required. With the removable cap 930 being removed, a respective sensor is easily and flexibly positioned and coupled with the respective luminaire 1. Thus, no expensive tooling and no complex manufacturing processes are required for providing a luminaire housing 10 with the capability of flexibly allowing a coupling with a sensor.
