Description

Field

[0001] Aspects of the present disclosure relate to a wall for a construction or building such as a sun porch, roof, terrace roof, porch, fence, or veranda. Further aspects of the present disclosure relate to an assembly for forming such a wall and to a construction or building comprising such a wall. Background

[0002] Sun porches, verandas or the like, are built either as a stand-alone building or as a construction that is arranged next to a building such as house. Typically, these constructions or buildings comprise a frame comprising a plurality of frame members. Walls are realized by connecting wooden panels or the like to the frame members.

[0003] Recently, a market interest has emerged in walls that have a more solid appearance, for example by realizing the walls using Aluminum.

[0004] Some sun porches or verandas require specialized persons for the manufacture thereof. Other sun porches or verandas are sold as kit-of-parts and are intended to be installed by the home user. Clearly, in this latter case, care should be taken that the effort required for assembling the sun porch or veranda is well within the scope of the average home user.

[0005] The Applicant has found that meeting the abovementioned demand for sun porches or verandas having walls with a more solid appearance while still being intended for manufacture by the home user cannot be met with known systems.

[0006] A wall relevant for the claimed invention is known from DE 24 48 983A1 and KR 100 690 817 B1.Summary

[0007] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a wall for a construction or building such as a sun porch, roof, terrace roof, porch, fence, or veranda in which this problem is at least partially solved. According to a first aspect of the present disclosure, this object is achieved using the wall as defined in claim 1, which comprises a plurality of wall panels, a plurality of profiles, and a plurality of coupling elements.

[0008] The plurality of profiles comprises one or more first profiles that are each attached to a wall supporting surface or to a lower frame member among the plurality of frame members. The wall supporting surface could for example be a floor, a foundation member, or the like. The plurality of profiles further comprises one or more second profiles that are each attached to an upper frame member among the plurality of frame members or that form an upper edge of the wall.

[0009] The one or more first profiles each comprise a first wall, a second wall attached preferably perpendicular to the first wall, a first rib protruding from the first wall preferably parallel to the second wall, wherein the first rib defines a first supporting surface at an end thereof. The one or more first profiles each further comprise a second rib protruding from the second wall preferably parallel to the first wall. At least a part of a side surface of the second rib is preferably parallel to the first wall and forms a second supporting surface. In an embodiment, the first wall and second wall are substantially planar structures and / or may comprise plate members, for example made of Aluminum.

[0010] The wall panels are each arranged in between a respective first profile and a respective second profile, each wall panel resting on the first and second supporting surface of one or more of said one or more first profiles. In an embodiment, the wall panels are arranged parallel to each other in a horizontal direction. The first and second profiles can be longer in the horizontal direction than a width of the wall panels. In such case, multiple wall panels are arranged in between a single first profile and a single second profile.

[0011] The plurality of coupling elements comprises one or more first coupling elements that are each coupled to the first rib of a respective first profile and to a respective wall panel. Such coupling is preferably releasable and may comprise a screw or the like.

[0012] The use of a first and second profile allows the wall panels to be arranged in between those profiles, and, while being supported by the first profile, a user may couple the wall panel to the first profile, thereby fixating the wall panel relative to the first profile. In this manner, a home user may conveniently manufacture the wall requiring little to no detailed experience.

[0013] The first rib of at least one first profile can be provided with a recess in which a protruding end of a respective first coupling element is received. An opposing end of that first coupling element can be attached to the wall panel, for example using a screw. The protruding end of the first coupling element and the recess of the first rib of the first profile can be configured to allow insertion of the protruding end into the recess when that first coupling element is positioned under an angle in a predefined range relative to the first rib, and to ensure a coupling between the protruding end and the first rib when the protruding end is rotated inside the recess to an angle outside of the predefined range. For example, the protruding end can be inserted into the recess when it is positioned within a certain range of angles relative to the recess. Once inserted and rotated in the recess such that it is positioned outside of this range, the protruding element is coupled to the recess, e.g. it cannot be pulled out of the recess without rotating the protruding element first.

[0014] At least one first profile may further comprise a third rib protruding from the second wall preferably parallel to the first wall. An end of the third rib forms a first abutment surface for a respective wall panel. The at least one first profile may further comprise a fourth rib protruding from the second wall preferably parallel to the first wall. An end of the fourth rib forms a second abutment surface for a respective wall panel, wherein the third and fourth ribs extend across a substantially identical length parallel to the first wall. Typically, the wall panels are arranged vertically. Moreover, the wall panels typically have a height that is greater than their width. In turn, the width of the wall panels is greater than the thickness. For example, the wall panels may have a height in a range between 500mm and 4000 mm, a width in a range between 50mm and 500mm, and a thickness in range between 10mm and 50 mm. In this case, each wall panel may have a front and back surface, a pair of side surfaces of which the surface area is much smaller than that of the front and back surface, and a top and bottom surface. A wall panel may rest with its back or front surface against the first and second abutment surface, and with its bottom surface on the first and second supporting surface.

[0015] The fourth rib may be formed at an edge of the second wall remote from the first wall. In this case, the wall may further comprise one or more first sealing members, each first sealing member being coupled to the fourth rib of a respective first profile and providing a sealing between that first profile and the wall panel coupled to that first profile. The fourth rib can be provided with a recess in which a respective first sealing member is partially received. For example, a first sealing member can be pressed into the recess after coupling the wall panel(s) to the first profile(s).

[0016] At least one first profile may comprise a fifth rib extending from the first wall preferably parallel to the second wall, wherein a region between the first rib and the fifth rib defines a chamber. In this case, the wall may further comprise one or more first shield elements, wherein a first end of each first shield element is received in a respective chamber. The one or more first shield elements are configured to cover the first coupling elements and an end region of the wall panels. The wall may further comprise one or more second sealing members, wherein each second sealing member is arranged in between a second end of a respective first shield element opposite to the first end of that first shield element and a wall panel. The first end of each first shield element can be configured to be inserted into a respective chamber of said at least one first profile provided that first shield element is orientated in a predefined range of angles relative to that first profile. For example, the chamber of the at least one first profile may comprise a stopping ledge. The first shield element of which the first end is received in that chamber can be provided with a pivoting surface with which it abuts the fifth rib, wherein rotation of that first shield element about the pivoting surface in a manner that moves the second end of that first shield element away from the wall panel that is coupled to the corresponding first profile is prevented by the stopping ledge engaging the first end of the first shield element.

[0017] The first and second profiles are preferably identical, wherein the plurality of coupling elements comprises one or more second coupling elements that are each coupled to the first rib of a respective second profile and to a respective wall panel, wherein the first coupling elements and the second coupling elements are preferably identical. In this manner, the number of different components required for manufacturing the wall can be kept at a minimum. In addition, stability of the wall can be improved by also connecting the wall panels to the second profile.

[0018] The wall may further comprise one or more second shield elements, a first end of each second shield element being received in a respective chamber of a respective second profile. The one or more second shield elements cover the second coupling elements and an end region of the wall panels, wherein the second shield elements are preferably identical to the first shield elements.

[0019] The wall preferably further comprises one or more fourth sealing members, each fourth sealing member being arranged in between a second end of a respective second shield element opposite to the first end of that second shield element and a wall panel, the one or more fourth sealing members preferably being identical to the one or more second sealing members.

[0020] The fourth rib of a second profile can be formed at an edge of the second wall remote from the first wall of that second profile. In this case, the wall may further comprise one or more third sealing members, each third sealing member being coupled to the fourth rib of a respective second profile and providing a sealing between that second profile and the wall panel coupled to that second profile, the one or more third sealing members preferably being identical to the one or more first sealing members.

[0021] The first and second profiles can be extrusion profiles, preferably made of aluminum and / or other extrudable materials. Additionally, or alternatively, the components of the first profile, such as the first wall, the second wall, and the first to fifth ribs, if applicable, can be integrally connected. The same holds for the components of the second profile.

[0022] The wall panels can be each elongated in a direction from the first profile to the second profile, wherein each wall panel comprises a first edge and a second edge parallel to a length direction of the wall panel, wherein each wall panel comprises a first coupling member provided at its first edge and a second coupling member provided at its second edge, wherein the first coupling member of a respective wall panel is coupled with a second coupling member of an adjacently arranged wall panel. The first coupling member may comprise a groove and the second coupling member may comprise a tongue to enable a tongue-and-groove coupling between adjacent wall panels. The wall panels can be extruded, preferably made of aluminum.

[0023] The wall may further comprise one or more third profiles that are each attached to a first side frame member among the plurality of frame members, and one or more fourth profiles that are each attached to a second side frame member among the plurality of frame members. In this case, the first side frame member and the second side frame member are preferably arranged perpendicular to the lower frame member and / or upper frame member. The first, second, third, and fourth profiles may be identical.

[0024] According to a further aspect, the present disclosure provides an assembly for forming a wall for a construction or building such as a sun porch, roof, terrace roof, porch, or veranda, said construction or building comprising a frame including a plurality of frame members. According to this further aspect, the assembly comprises a plurality of wall panels, a plurality of profiles, and a plurality of coupling elements.

[0025] The plurality of profiles comprises one or more first profiles that are each configured to be attached to a wall supporting surface or to a lower frame member among the plurality of frame members, and one or more second profiles that are each configured to be attached to an upper frame member among the plurality of frame members or that form an upper edge of the wall.

[0026] The one or more first profiles each comprise a first wall, a second wall configured to be attached preferably perpendicular to the first wall, a first rib protruding from the first wall preferably parallel to the second wall, and a second rib protruding from the second wall preferably parallel to the first wall.

[0027] The first rib defines a first supporting surface at an end thereof, and at least a part of a side surface of the second rib is preferably parallel to the first wall and forms a second supporting surface.

[0028] The wall panels are each configured to be arranged in between a respective first profile and a respective second profile, each wall panel being configured to be resting on the first and second supporting surfaces of one or more of said one or more first profiles. The plurality of coupling elements comprises one or more first coupling elements that are each configured to be coupled to the first rib of a respective first profile and to a respective wall panel.

[0029] The assembly may further comprise the first shield elements as defined above, the second shield elements as defined above, the second coupling elements as defined above, the first sealing members as defined above, the second sealing members as defined above, the third sealing members as defined above, and / or the fourth sealing members as defined above.

[0030] According to a further aspect, the present disclosure provides a construction or building such as a sun porch, roof, terrace roof, porch, or veranda, comprising a frame including a plurality of frame members and the wall as defined above.List of figures

[0031] Next, embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in more detail referring to the appended drawings, wherein identical or similar components are illustrated using the same reference signs, and wherein: Figure 1 illustrates two examples of a construction in accordance with the present disclosure in which a wall is provided; Figure 2 illustrates different views of wall panels of the wall in figure 1; Figure 3 illustrates a detailed view of a cross section of the wall in figure 1; Figure 4 illustrates a detailed view of a cross section of a first profile used in the wall in figure 1; Figures 5A-5D illustrate different steps of manufacturing the wall in figure 1; and Figure 6 illustrates a corner of the wall in figure 1. Detailed description

[0032] Figure 1 illustrates two examples of a construction 1, 2 in which a wall 100, 200 with Aluminum wall panels 20 is used. Wall 100, 200 is connected to frame members 10, 11, 12, 13 that are part of construction 1, 2. Typically, wall 100, 200 is connected to frame members at least at three sides thereof. In some embodiments, wall 100, 200 is arranged directly on a supporting surface such as a floor, a foundation member, or ground. In other embodiments, such as shown in figure 1, construction 1, 2 comprises a lower frame member 13 to which wall 100 is connected.

[0033] Typically, construction 1, 2 is provided next to another building, such as a house, and may be fixedly connected thereto. For example, in figure 1, the right-hand side of construction 1, 2 can be connected to a house.

[0034] In construction 1, wall 100 has a rectangular shape in which the individual wall panels 20 have an identical height. Furthermore, roof 15 is inclined downwards to prevent the accumulation of rainwater and the like. As shown, construction 1 comprises a triangular shaped window portion 14.

[0035] In construction 2, wall 200 has a tapered upper edge corresponding to the inclined orientation of roof 15. In this case, individual wall panels 20 have different heights. Generally, the width and thickness of wall panels 20 is identical for both construction 1 and 2.

[0036] Next, details of wall 100 will be described in connection with figures 2-6. This same description will however apply to wall 200 except for wall panels 20 having different heights.

[0037] Now referring to figure 2, wall 100 comprises a plurality of wall panels 20, 20' that are mutually coupled. Wall panels 20, 20' are extruded and are made from Aluminum.

[0038] Figure 2, top and center figure, illustrates a view corresponding to a cross section in the horizontal plane showing two panels 20, 20'. The bottom view in figure 2 illustrates a perspective view of these panels in a coupled state.

[0039] As shown, wall panels 20, 20' comprise a first edge and a second edge that are each parallel to a length direction L of wall panel 20, 20'. Each wall panel 20, 20' comprises a first coupling member 21 provided at its first edge in the form of a groove, and a second coupling member 22 provided at its second edge in the form of a tongue.

[0040] Wall panels 20, 20' can be mutually coupled by bringing the tongue and groove into engagement while holding panels 20, 20' under a slight angle as shown in the top figure in figure 2. Next, panels 20, 20' are brought into alignment as shown in the center figure in figure 2 thereby mutually coupling panels 20, 20'.

[0041] Figure 3 illustrates wall panel 20 coupled to a first profile 31, whereas figure 4 illustrates only first profile 31.

[0042] First profile 31 comprises a first wall 311 and a second wall 312 that is perpendicular to first wall 311. First profile 31 further comprises a first rib 313 that extends from first wall 311 parallel to second wall 312. An end of first rib 313 forms a first supporting surface 313A. Typically, first supporting surface 313A is parallel to first wall 311. First rib 313 further comprises a recess 313B.

[0043] First profile 31 further comprises a second rib 314 that extends from second wall 312 parallel to first wall 311. A side wall of second rib 314 forms a second supporting surface 314A.

[0044] First profile 31 further comprises a third rib 315, a fourth rib 316, and a fifth rib 317. Third rib 315 extends from second wall 312 parallel to first wall 311. An end surface of third rib 315 forms a first abutment surface 315A. Fourth rib 316 extends from second wall 312 parallel to first wall 311. An end of fourth rib 316 forms a second abutment surface 316A. Fourth rib 316 further comprises a recess 316B.

[0045] Fifth rib 317 extends from first wall 311 parallel to second wall 312. Chamber 318 is defined between first rib 313 and fifth rib 317, wherein chamber 318 comprises a stopping ledge 318A.

[0046] Now referring to figure 3, wall panel 20 rests with its bottom surface on first supporting surface 313A and second supporting surface 314A. Furthermore, it rests against or abuts first abutment surface 315A and second abutment surface 316A.

[0047] Figure 3 further illustrates a first coupling element 41 having a protruding end 411 that is arranged in recess 313B. An opposing end 412 of first coupling element 41 is attached to wall panel 20 using a screw 70. To that end, first coupling element 41 and wall panel 20 may be provided with predefined holes.

[0048] Figure 3 also illustrates a first shielding element 61 of which an end is received in chamber 318. First shielding element 61 has a pivoting surface 61A with which it abuts fifth rib 317. As shown, when first shielding element 61 is urged to pivot or rotate about pivoting surface 61A in a way as to cause the second end to move away from wall panel 20, as shown by arrow A, the first end of first shielding element 61 will engage stopping ledge 318A thereby preventing this rotation. At the same time, a second sealing member 52 is arranged in between the second end of first shielding element 61 and wall panel 20. Sealing member 52 prevents dust, moisture and the like from entering a space between wall panel 20 and first profile 31 and fixates first shielding element 61 and wall panel 20 into place. A similar sealing member 51 is coupled in recess 316B of fourth rib 316. Both sealing members 51, 52 can be made of rubber or another suitable sealing material.

[0049] First profile 31 is provided at the bottom end of wall 100. Second profile 32 is preferably identical to first profile 31 and the connection between wall panels 20 and second profile 32 can be identical to the connection shown in figure 3.

[0050] Figures 5A-5D illustrate different steps of manufacturing wall 100. In this example, it is assumed that a frame has already been constructed that comprises frame members 10, 11, 12, 13, such as shown in figure 1.

[0051] As a first step, a first profile 31 and a second profile 32 are mounted corresponding to the bottom and top of wall 100, respectively. First profile 31 is mounted to lower frame member 13 of construction 1. Second profile 32 is mounted to upper frame member 10 of construction 1. At the same, a third profile 33 and a fourth profile can be arranged or mounted on other frame members 11, 12, thereby defining a rectangular area of the placement of wall panels 20.

[0052] Next, as shown in figure 5A, wall panels 20 are arranged in between first profile 31 and second profile 32. For example, a first wall panel 20 is arranged on the outer left or outer right side in the rectangular placement area. A next wall panel is coupled to the first wall panel 20 by holding the next wall panel 20 at an angle with respect to the first wall panel 20, as shown in figure 2, and to then rotate the next wall panel 20 to bring the wall panels into alignment and to ensure a mutual coupling.

[0053] Next, a protruding end 411 of a first coupling element 41 is arranged into recess 313B of first rib 313. This is performed by holding first coupling element 41 at a particular angle relative to first rib 313 to allow protruding end 411 to be arranged in recess 313B. As a next step, first coupling element 31 is rotated according to arrow B to ensure a coupling between first coupling element 41 and first rib 313 and to bring opposing end 412 into proximity of wall panel 20. This is shown in figure 5B.

[0054] Figure 5C illustrates the next step of fixating first coupling element 41 to wall panel 20 using a screw 70. Typically, first coupling element 41 and wall panel 20 may be provided with pre-drilled holes to allow placement of screw 70. In other embodiments, a user may drill the holes in wall panel 20 before or after arranging wall panel 20 in between first profile 31 and second profile 32.

[0055] As a next step, a first shielding element 61 is arranged in chamber 318. To this end, first shielding element 61 is positioned at a given angle to allow placement of an end of first shielding element 61 in chamber 318. After placing first shielding element 61 in chamber 318, rotation of first shielding element 61 about pivoting surface 61A is limited due to an end of first shielding element 61 engaging stopping ledge 318A. After rotating first shielding element 61 the situation shown in figure 5D is obtained.

[0056] As a next step, a sealing member 52 is arranged in between an end of first shielding element 61 and wall panel 20. Sealing member 52 pushes first shielding element 61 away such that the opposing end of the first shielding element 61 engages stopping ledge 318A. In this manner, wall panel 20 is fixated relative to first profile 31 and accumulation of dust, water, or the like, between wall panel 20 and first profile 31 can be minimized.

[0057] A sealing member 51 is also arranged in between fourth rib 316 and wall panel 20 for preventing accumulation of dust, water, or the like, between wall panel 20 and first profile 31. After arranging these sealing members, the situation as shown in figure 3 is obtained. In some embodiments, sealing member 51 is arranged inside recess 316B prior to arranging wall panel 20 between the first and second profile.

[0058] The process shown in figures 5A and 5B can be repeated for all wall panels 20 to be placed. A wall panel that is arranged in between profiles 31, 32 can be first fixated to at least one of profiles 31, 32 before a next wall panel 20 is coupled to it. However, the present invention is not limited thereto. In other embodiments, every other wall panel 20 is fixated to the first profile using a respective first coupling element. In some embodiments, each wall panel 20 is either only coupled to an adjacent wall panel or is coupled to an adjacent wall panel while at the same time being fixedly coupled to both the first profile and the second profile. It should be clear that various permutations are possible in which the connection to the first profile and / or second profile and the mutual coupling of the wall panels using the tongue-and-groove coupling provides sufficient stability of the wall as a whole.

[0059] Several different first or second profiles can be used that are arranged in line. In other embodiments, a single first and second profile is used that cover the entire width of the wall. The same holds for the shielding elements.

[0060] In the manner described above, a user can easily arrange a row of wall panels 20 in between profiles 31, 32, 33. At the sides, a third profile 33 and fourth profile can be arranged as shown in figure 6. Here, it is noted that third profile 33 is arranged such that its first wall is arranged away from wall panels 20. The same holds for the fourth profile on the other side of the wall (not shown).

[0061] Typically, a first profile 31 accommodates more than one wall panel 20, and the shielding element 61 covers the end parts of more than one wall panel 20. Typically, a length of a shielding element 61, measured in the horizontal direction, is substantially identical to a length of a first profile 31. A length of a coupling element in that same direction is typically smaller than the width of wall panels 20.

[0062] In an embodiment, the cross-sections of all profiles are identical, all the coupling elements are identical, the cross-sections of all wall panels are identical, all sealing members 51 are identical, and all sealing members 52 are identical. In this manner, a wall 100 can be constructed using a minimum number of different components. The length of the profiles, measured in the x-direction in figure 3, may differ depending on a desired size of the wall. Similarly, the length of the wall panels, measured in the z-direction in figure 3, may differ depending on a desired size of the wall. In an embodiment, the profiles may have an identical size and the wall panels may have an identical size when shipped to the home user. In this case, the home user adjusts the profiles and wall panels, e.g. by cutting or sawing, depending on a desired size of the wall.

[0063] Furthermore, all the profiles and wall panels can be realized using extrusion and can be made of a metal such as Aluminum. The sealing members can be made from rubber, natural rubber, Silicone, EPDM, TPV, or the like, whereas the coupling elements can be made from Magnesium, steel, copper, HDPE, PE, PET, POM, or other polymers.

[0064] Referring back to figure 1, to realize construction 2, second profile(s) 32 will be arranged inclined relative to first profile(s) 31. Furthermore, wall panels 20 are sawn at different heights, where it is noted that that the height of second profile(s) 32 is sufficient to cover the top ends of wall panels 20 over the entire width of panels 20. The stepped nature of the arrangement of wall panels of different heights being arranged next to each other, can thereby be hidden using the shielding elements.

[0065] In the above, detailed embodiments of the present disclosure were described. However, the present disclosure is not limited to these embodiments. Various modifications are possible without departing from the scope of the present disclosure which is defined by the appended claims and their equivalents.

[0066] For example, the embodiments illustrated in figures 1-6 specifically relate to a wall for a sun porch, terrace roof, porch, or veranda. However, the wall of the present invention can equally be used for constructing a fence.
