Abstract

Proprioceptive platform, comprising a board for positioning at least one foot, preferably both feet of a user, with the board featuring a ground support element whose supporting surface is curved along at least one curvature axis. This curvature axis has a predetermined inclination relative to the transverse and longitudinal axes of the board, or the support element has an essentially cylindrical or optionally spherical supporting surface. The platform allows modification of its equilibrium condition by alternately or in combination providing at least one support element and removable fixing devices for said support element in multiple different zones across the surface area of the board. This determines a displacement of the oscillation axis relative to the shape of the board in at least one direction of the board ' s extension, and optionally provides different configurations of the curved support surface of the support element directly on the floor and / or on a base plate. Additionally, it optionally includes means for generating a variation in the equilibrium condition of the board relative to the oscillation axis.

Description

Proprioceptive platform for dynamic trainingDescription Text

[0001] The invention relates to a proprioceptive platform, of the type comprising a board for placing at least one foot , preferably both feet of a user , which board has a ground support element whose support surface is curved along at least one curvature axis , with the curvature axis having a predetermined inclination relative to the transverse and longitudinal axes of the board, or the support element having an essentially cylindrical or optionally spherical support surface .

[0002] Proprioceptive platforms of this type are currently known . In these platforms according to the prior art , the support element with a ground support surface having a curved shape along at least one curvature axis or having a substantially spherical shape , the curvature axis and / or the center of curvature are fixed relative to the extent of the board . Preferably, the curvature axis and / or the center of curvature are centrally positioned relative to an extending direction of the board itself , such that the curvature axis and / or the rotation center are coincident with the center of gravity of the proprioceptive platform, thereby being substantially in balance relative to the said curvature axis and / or the said center of curvature .

[0003] This condition limits the possibility of proprioceptive training in relation to the equilibrium condition , which remains the same , thus making it impossible to simulate different balance conditions other than those on a flat surface , such as balance conditions where the body ’ s center of gravity needs to be shifted forward or backward and / or sideways from the central upright position .

[0004] US 4 , 653 , 748 describes a platform having a board and a spherical support element applied to the underside of the board . The spherical element can be fixed to the board in various positions relative to its perimeter shape . The fixing takes place by providing threaded engagement seats in holes drilled in the thickness of the board and distributed along its extension corresponding to desired fixing points for the spherical support element . The latter is fixed by threaded pins that are permanently fixed to said support element and protrude from the contact side at the underside of the board or are engaged in a threaded hole provided in the support element . The support element , therefore , can be provided in only certain predetermined positions and cannot be freely positioned at any position along the surface extension of the board without requiring structural modification activities of the board .

[0005] US 6 , 283 , 897 also describes a proprioceptive training tool that allows positioning a support element of a board and / or a foot positioning seat relative to the board and the support element only at predetermined points and / or positions relative to the peripheral shape of the board and / or the foot positioning seat to vary equilibrium conditions . Additionally, the document provides for connecting an elastic traction element to the board and / or the foot positioning seat to generate destabilizing forces at the equilibrium point .

[0006] US 2007 / 0027010 describes a proprioceptive board that allows moving a semispherical support element to different positions along the extension of the board itself . The said support element is supported on a movable slide along two mutually parallel guides in the direction of a diametrical axis of the peripheral shape of the board and can be locked in any position along the said guides . Moreover , the slide provides various predetermined fixing points of the support element thereto , which are distributed in different positions along the extension of the slide in a direction transverse to the sliding guides . Therefore , even in this case , while the position variation of the support element is continuous in thesliding direction , in the direction perpendicular to the sliding direction , the position of the support element is executed in steps of predetermined amplitude variation , whereby in this case too , it is not possible to vary continuously and as desired the position of the support element along the surface extension of the board and relative to its peripheral shape . It should also be considered that the construction of the proprioceptive board is complex and expensive , making the tool relatively complex to adjust .

[0007] Conditions of displacement of the center of gravity relative to the equilibrium condition may occur during activities in various sports such as skiing , where the body weight must be directed in a position protruding forward relative to the vertical or upright position , or centered with reference to the body ’ s center of gravity.

[0008] The invention therefore aims to achieve a proprioceptive platform for training a user under equilibrium conditions different from upright , vertical conditions , without requiring complex and expensive construction , and allowing continuous variations in equilibrium conditions and thus the position of at least one support element of the board along the surface extension of said board and relative to its peripheral shape .

[0009] The invention solves the aforementioned problem with a proprioceptive platform of the type described at the beginning , where it is possible to modify the equilibrium condition of said platform, alternatively or in combination , by continuously changing in any direction the position of the support element relative to the board, thereby determining a displacement of the oscillation axis relative to the board ’ s shape , in at least one direction of the board ’ s extension and / or optionally providing different configurations of the curved support surface of the support element , directly on the floor and / or on a base plate and / or alternatively or in combination providing means for generating a variation in the equilibrium condition of the board relative to the oscillation axis and where the removable fixing of the support elements is achieved by means of a device consisting of two flat elements which are removablycoupled together by mechanical coupling known as hooks and loops , or by two elements whose contact surfaces have a plurality of mutually engaging mechanical elements which engage by compression of the two elements together and disengage by pulling the two elements apart , and which flat elements are applied respectively in one or more zones of the board, the support element and / or said optional means for generating a variation in the equilibrium condition of the board relative to the axis or axes of oscillation and for part or the entire mutual contact surface of said board and said support element and / or said means for generating a variation in the equilibrium condition or the means for fixing the same to the board.

[0010] There are several examples of these removable fixing devices , among which one of the most well-known is the commercially available Velcro® tape . For brevity in the following description and in the claims , these types of removable fixing devices will be referred to as hook and loop-type devices .

[0011] Another example of said fixing systems can be a resealable fixing system called Dual Lock Sj 345B from 3M.

[0012] In one embodiment , said means for varying the equilibrium condition of the board consist of devices for applying a force with at least a vertical component at a point of application to said board that is eccentric to the oscillation axis of the board itself .

[0013] One embodiment provides that the magnitude of said force is variable within a predetermined range by varying the intensity of the force itself and / or the radial distance from the oscillation axis .

[0014] Various embodiments of the realization of said means for varying the equilibrium condition of the board are possible .

[0015] In one embodiment , said means for varying the equilibrium condition are constituted by one or more weights or loads , each having a predetermined weight , in combination with removable fastening means of said one or more weights or said one or more loads in an asymmetric and eccentric position relative to the curvatureaxis and / or the center of curvature of the support element of the platform and / or the oscillation axis of said board .

[0016] According to another feature , the fastening of the eccentric loads and / or weights takes place thanks to one or more tightening straps provided on at least one peripheral side of the board, which straps can be tightened around one or more weight elements and loosened relative to them.

[0017] An embodiment which can be either alternative or provided in combination with the previous one provides that said means for varying the equilibrium conditions of the board are constituted by elastic elements for restraining the board against a base plate on which said board rests by means of the support element (s) , and said elastic means urge a first part of the board eccentrically to an oscillation axis against said base plate with a predetermined force relative to a second part of the board which is provided on a diametrically opposite side of the oscillation axis and / or the radius or radii or centers of curvature of the support surface against said first part of the board .

[0018] In one embodiment , said base plate is constituted by a floor or by a base plate in turn destined to be placed on a floor , the support element being interposed between the underside of the board and said floor and / or between the underside of the board and said base plate , while said elastic elements are fixable with one end to said floor or to said base plate and with the other to the board .

[0019] Many executive variants of said elastic means are possible , which can be in the form of helical springs , elastic bands , or bands extending from one to the other of two opposite transverse sides of the board, i . e . , oriented perpendicularly to the oscillation axis , and whose ends are fixable to the floor and / or to the base plate .

[0020] A particular embodiment , in which the board rests by means of the support element on a base plate , provides that said elastic means are constituted by an annular element , i . e . , a ribbon-like or similar element , closed on itself and which surrounds them joinedalong a side band, at a certain distance from it , the oscillation axis of the board and / or the curvature axis of the support element the board and the base plate , so as to allow mutual separation in contrast to an elastic force of urging in a position of approach of said base plate to said board .

[0021] In this case , it is also possible to foresee a combination of elastic means that can be applied in combination or alternatively to vary the elastic force exerted on the board relative to the floor and / or base plate .

[0022] According to a further embodiment , in combination with a platform having a board with a predetermined plan shape , it is possible to provide a series of different support elements that can be fixed to the board in a removable and interchangeable manner . These support elements have different curved support surface configurations , both in terms of the shape of the curved surface , for example , having a constant or variable radius of curvature , and in terms of the dimensions of the radius of curvature .

[0023] The aforementioned hook-and-loop coupling elements can also advantageously be provided for a preferred embodiment in which the aforementioned fastening straps for weights and / or equilibrium condition varying means such as the aforementioned elastic elements are formed by tapes that have , for their entire length or part thereof , or at a free end and for a terminal length , one of the two elements of said hook-and-loop fasteners , while the other of the two elements of said hook-and-loop fasteners is provided on the surface of the board and has a direction parallel and aligned with the other element as well as a predetermined length , allowing the coupling of the two elements in different relative positions and thus the creation of clamping slots for weights of different sizes commensurate with those weights themselves .

[0024] In a preferred embodiment , at least two parallel strips are applied to the platform board on the side facing the floor , which extend for a certain length , optionally from one to the other of twoopposite end sides of the board itself , and which strips are made up of one of the two hook-and-loop fastening elements , while each of said one or more support elements has a side for attachment to said board on which at least one strip made up of said second element of the removable hook-and-loop fastening device is applied, and while on the upper side of the board and in correspondence with the peripheral strip of a lateral edge thereof , at least one clamping strap for a weight or load departs , which said at least one strap coincides in a direction perpendicular to the board with one of the two elements of the removable fastening device provided on the underside of the board and which strap has for a terminal length a predetermined length of the second element of the hook-and-loop device intended to cooperate with the element of said device fixed to the underside of the board .

[0025] In one embodiment , when two parallel strips are provided on the underside of the board along which respectively one element of the hook-and-loop fastening device is fixed, two straps are fixed to the board, respectively aligned and coinciding with one of the two parallel strips and provided along a respective strip with a terminal length of the second element of the hook-and-loop device intended to cooperate with the element provided along a respective strip on the underside of the board .

[0026] It is worth noting that it is possible to provide on the board either a single strip on the underside and therefore a single element of the hook-and-loop device along it , or even more than two strips , each provided with said element , thus it is possible to provide either a single strap or a greater number of straps corresponding to the number of said strips .

[0027] According to an advantageous embodiment , regarding weights or loads , these can be provided in a plurality of weight elements having different weights for at least some of these and having indentations and / or openings for engagement and / or passage of a corresponding strap , and the length of the strap is such that it can simultaneously clamp two or more weight elements .

[0028] In one embodiment , the weight elements are provided with a through opening that is closed on all sides by a peripheral edge . In an alternative embodiment , the weight elements are of the handle type , i . e . , provided with a central area with a smaller cross- sectional area than the parallel cross-sectional area of end terminals connected by said central area .

[0029] As apparent from the above , the platform according to the present invention fully addresses the expressed issues by making it possible to modify the dynamic properties of the platform itself at the user ’ s discretion and for desired training purposes by allowing a simple variation in the position of one or more support elements of the board relative to the extent of the board and / or its perimeter shape , and also by making it easy to replace the weights coupled to the board and / or easily modify the tension of the elastic elements and / or replace them.

[0030] The construction is simple and extremely flexible and adaptable to various needs . Not only is it possible to change the position of the axis or oscillation center in the transverse direction relative to the central one , but the positional variation can also be performed in two directions , so the axis of oscillation can also be shifted to assume an orientation inclined relative , for example , to a central axis of the board . In addition to this , it is possible to change the configuration of the ground support curve in relation to the angle of inclination , simply by replacing the board support element . Furthermore , the possibility of fixing weights or loads eccentrically to the oscillation axis allows varying the equilibrium condition of the board simulating abnormal or disturbed conditions for the user compared to those present in everyday life .

[0031] It is worth noting the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of construction that make the platform certainly robust , reliable , and inexpensive .

[0032] The features of the invention and the advantages will be described in more detail in relation to a preferred, non-limiting exemplary embodiment illustrated in the figures .Figure 1 shows a top plan view of a first exemplary embodiment of the platform according to the invention , in which the equilibrium condition varying means consist of one or more removable weights or loads fixable to the board .Figure 2 shows a bottom plan view of the platform according to Figure 1 and of a plurality of different support elements fixable in a removable manner thereto .Figures 3 to 5 show various positions of a support element relative to the board of the previous figures .Figures 6 to 8 show two alternative embodiments of the platform according to the present invention , in which the board is supported by the support element on a base plate which in turn is intended to be supported on the ground, the equilibrium condition varying means of the platform consisting of one or more elastic elements constrained or capable of being constrained on one side to the board and on the other to the base plate .Figures 9 and 10 show a further embodiment that can be alternative or combined with the previous ones .

[0033] A preferred, but non-limiting , first embodiment of the present invention provides that a proprioceptive platform comprises a board on which a user is intended to stand in an upright position . The board 1 is preferably, but not exclusively, rectangular in shape , that is , rectangular or square , but it can also be circular or elliptical in shape .

[0034] A removable ground support element 2 can be fixed to the board 1 , which support element has a flat contact surface 3 with the underside of the board 1 and a curved support surface 4 for ground contact . The curved surface may be configured, for example , along a single curvature axis and have a constant radius or a variable radiusin angular direction , with the radius variation possibly providing progressive elongation symmetrically or asymmetrically relative to a minimum radius value oriented perpendicular to the underside of the board 1 . A possible variant embodiment could be a semi- cylindrical shape of the support element 2 or even a semi -elliptical or sector-shaped form of an ellipse , preferably symmetric relative to the minor or major axis .

[0035] A further variant embodiment may also provide for a ground support element 2 ’ that is dome-shaped, for example , semi -spherical or even elliptical or oval -shaped, with the curved surface generated from one or more curvature centers .

[0036] A preferred embodiment of the means for fastening at least the support element 2 to the board 1 , which is both extremely effective and requires lower costs , is illustrated in the figures and provides for at least one zone on the underside , of predetermined size and shape , one of two reciprocal coupling elements of a removable fastening device of the hook-and-loop type , such as and not limited to one of the two reciprocal coupling elements of a removable fastening device known in commerce under the name Velcro® . The second reciprocal coupling element of the hook-and-loop removable fastening device is fixed on at least one or more zones or along the entire extension of the contact side of the support element 2 to the underside of the board 1 . This solution makes it possible to fix the support element 2 to the board 1 in a separable manner and also in any possible position with reference to the distribution , that is , shape and surface extension of the reciprocal coupling elements of the hook-and-loop removable fastening device . In the figures , these elements are indicated as 51 and 52 .

[0037] The distribution of the coupling element 51 to the board 1 can be provided so that the entire underside of the board 1 is coated with said coupling element 51 . This allows maximum freedom for fixing the support element 2 relative to the plan shape of the board 1 .

[0038] According to yet another feature , at least one removable fastening means is provided at least in a peripheral strip on the upper side of the board 1 in correspondence with said strip of at least one weight element . These removable fastening means 6 and said weight elements 7 can be configured in any manner . According to embodiments , these removable fastening means 6 for weights 7 and the corresponding weights 7 can consist of interlocking coupling seats , which seats are correspondingly shaped to zones of the weights 7 made in corresponding form and dimensions to the seats , or said removable fastening means consist of bolts engageable in threaded seats of the board 1 through holes passing through the weight or by studs engaged in the board and cooperating with clamping nuts passing through coincident holes in the weight element .

[0039] A preferred and advantageous embodiment involves the removable fastening member 6 for the ballast element 7 being constituted by a strap extending transversely to the peripheral edge of the peripheral band of the board 1 to which said strap is attached . The strap has a length such that it extends around said edge and overlaps for a predetermined length on the lower side of the board 1 , positioning itself , with at least one end portion , coinciding with the areas of said lower side of the board 1 provided with coupling element 51 , the said end portion of the strap being provided for its length with the second coupling element 52 intended to cooperate with said first coupling element 51 fixed to the board 1 .

[0040] In this case , the ballast element 7 may have a strap engagement zone , for example , a recess for passage of said strap or a pass-through opening for passage of said strap .

[0041] In the illustrated embodiment , the ballast element 7 is handle -shaped, meaning it generally includes a central gripping stem of smaller diameter compared to end terminals which have a largerdiameter than the stem and form the lateral boundaries of the strap passage recess .

[0042] A preferred embodiment corresponding to that illustrated provides that the coupling element 51 fixed to the lower side of the board 1 is constituted by two tapes made of the material of said coupling element , which tapes extend at least between two opposite peripheral sides of the board 1 , one of which is the peripheral side along which the terminal band for fastening the removable fastening members 6 of the ballast element 7 is provided . In this case , the said removable fastening members 6 of the ballast element 7 are constituted by two straps oriented with their longitudinal axes parallel to the two tapes constituted by the coupling element 51 and provided along the lower side of the board 1 . Furthermore , these straps coincide with said tapes on the lower side of the board 1 with reference to the direction perpendicular to the board itself .

[0043] In combination with this embodiment , support elements 2 may be constituted by semi cylindrical or substantially semi cylindrical elements or by semidome elements having at least one longitudinal dimension in the case of cylindrical or similar elements or a diametrical dimension in the case of dome-shaped elements , these dimensions being greater by at least a certain measure than the distance between the two tapes constituted by the coupling element 51 and fixed to the lower side of the board 1 .

[0044] In this embodiment , each strap can be used to secure a ballast element 7 , and said ballast elements can be identical or similar to each other and provided in numbers and with weights such that they can be combined to generate a total weight as desired within predetermined and defined incremental steps based on the weights of the individual ballast elements 7 .

[0045] Increasing the number of straps allows a greater number of ballast elements 7 to be secured to the corresponding board 1 corresponding to the number of straps .

[0046] According to a further embodiment , it is possible to provide removable fastening members for one or more ballast elements also at the peripheral bands of the board 1 associated with other peripheral lateral edges and / or different zones of the perimeter of said board 1 . This embodiment simply requires replicating the removable fastening members 6 of the ballast elements 7 in said other positions relative to the perimeter of the board 1 .

[0047] With reference to the embodiments described above , each of these may include at least one board 1 combined with a series of ballast elements comprising a predetermined number of ballast elements 7 , each of which or at least some of which present different weights and can be alternately or combinedly coupled to the board 1 depending on the configuration of their removable fastening members 6.

[0048] Alternatively or in combination with the above variant , said at least one board 1 may be combined with two or more different ground support elements presenting curved ground support surfaces of different configurations , which can be alternatively applied to said board 1 .

[0049] Figure 1 shows a further embodiment of the ballast indicated by 7 ’ which shows an annular ballast , that is , an element having a central pass-through opening through which the fastening strap 6 passes .

[0050] Referring to figures 6 and 7 , an embodiment variant of the platform according to the present invention provides that the board 1 with the support element 2 is supported by a base plate indicated by 100 .

[0050] Referring to Figures 6 and 7 , an embodiment variant of the platform according to the present invention provides that the board 1 with the support element 2 are supported by a base plate indicated by 100 .

[0051] In this embodiment , between the base plate 100 and the board 1 , there are means for varying the equilibrium condition of the board 1 relative to the base plate 100 , which consist of elastic elements 71 that are attached with their opposite ends to the base plate 100 and to the board 1 in an eccentric position , i . e . , at a certain lateral distance from the axis of oscillation and / or the axis of curvature of the support element 2 .

[0052] In Figures 6 and 7 , these elastic elements 71 are in the form of a closed elastic band that surrounds both the base plate 100 and the board 1 , exerting a predetermined force . As shown in Figure 7 , the band undergoes elastic stretching when attempting to bring the board into a position parallel to the base plate and / or the underlying floor . In this case , the elastic band can be selected to exert a constant or variable force depending on the elongation , thereby not only calibrating the absolute value of the force required to generate the disequilibrium condition but also dynamically adjusting the force exerted towards bringing the board closer to the base plate during movement .

[0053] According to one embodiment , multiple bands 71 can be used, each with a different constant resistance force to elongation or following a specific predetermined variation law based on elongation . Each of these bands can be alternately applied and used in combination with others , allowing precise calibration of both the elongation force required and its variation during elongation .

[0054] Figure 8 shows a variant where the elastic band (s) 71 is replaced by one or more single helical springs interposed between the underside of the board and the upper side of the base plate .

[0055] The number of these elements 71 ’ can vary, as they can be removably fixed to the base plate 100 and the board 1 .

[0056] Combinations of the embodiments illustrated in Figures 1 to 5 with those of Figures 6 and 7 and / or Figure 8 are also possible , in any combination and sub-combination of the features provided therein .

[0057] Regarding a proprioceptive platform according to the present invention , it can be in the form of a kit comprising :- at least one board;- at least one base plate ;- one or more support elements differently shaped and applicable in one or more positions on the underside of the board;- one or more means for varying the equilibrium condition , consisting of :- one or more removable weights in one or more positions on the plan extension of the board;- alternatively or in combination , one or more elastic elements attachable between the board and / or the floor or between the board and the base plate .

[0058] Figures 9 and 10 show a further embodiment variant of the means for modifying the equilibrium condition of the platform, i . e . , the board . In this case , these means are always of the elastic type and are indicated by 71" , but unlike the previous embodiments , they act opposite to gravity, exerting an upward pulling force .

[0059] In one embodiment , the platform is associated with an elastic element 71" fixed at one end to the perimeter area of the board on a side substantially parallel to the axis of oscillation or the center of curvature of the support element 2 , and at the other endsuspended from a support 72 located at a certain height above the perimeter area .

[0060] In an embodiment where the platform has a base plate like the one indicated by 100 , the said support 72 is fixed to the said base plate 100 . Additionally, the elastic element 71" can advantageously be in the form of a ring band extending around the support 72 and the board 1 .

[0061] While this preferred embodiment is one of the possible solutions , by providing a kit including at least one said elastic element 71" and the platform consisting only of the board 1 and at least one support element 2 , the said elastic element can be hung from any suitable support existing in normal household furnishings , such as a door handle , the backrest of a chair , or similar .

[0062] In this case , it is also possible to provide an element that can be removably attached to furniture , such as a clamp with at least one hooking terminal for the said elastic ring band 71" .

[0063] It should also be noted that the embodiment according to Figures 10 and 11 , although illustrated separately from the other embodiments , can be combined in any combination with one or more of the previous embodiments .

[0064] The invention is thus conceived to accommodate numerous modifications and variations , all within the inventive concept ’ s scope . All details can be replaced by other technically equivalent elements . In practice , the materials and dimensions can be varied according to technical requirements .
