Abstract
Description
Technical field
[0001] The present invention relates to a system for preparing ski slopes by water distribution. Background art
[0002] It is known in the ski industry to prepare ski slopes by water injection, wherein water is injected at high pressure on the slope and penetrates the snow surface by a few centimetres, thus freezing and creating a particularly hard snow layer. Such a treatment is suitable for preparing packed-snow ski slopes for ski racing. It is carried out through the use of a perforated tube in which high-pressure water flows and exits through the holes, penetrating the snow. The tube is moved over the entire ski slope manually by a number of operators.
[0003] However, such systems suffer from a few drawbacks.
[0004] One drawback is that the above-mentioned method is slow and requires the presence of many operators.Summary of the invention
[0005] It is one object of the present invention to provide a system which can overcome this and other drawbacks of the prior art, while at the same time being simple and economical to be performed.
[0006] According to the present invention, this and other objects are achieved through a system made in accordance with the appended independent claim.
[0007] It is understood that the appended claims are an integral part of the technical teachings provided in the following detailed description of the present invention. In particular, the appended dependent claims define some preferred embodiments of the present invention that include some optional technical features.Brief description of the drawings
[0008] Further features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent in light of the following detailed description, provided merely as a non-limiting example with reference to the annexed drawings, wherein: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a reel system according to a particular embodiment of the present invention, Figure 2 is a plan view of the reel system of Fig. 1, Figure 3 is a lateral view of the reel system of Fig. 1, Figure 4 is a schematic perspective view wherein the reel system is connected to a snowcat that is preparing a ski slope, Figure 5 is a perspective view of a reel system according to a different embodiment of the present invention. Detailed description of the invention
[0009] With reference to the annexed drawings, a reel system 1 for ski slopes will be described, which comprises: a reel 2 comprising a non-collapsible hose 4 for water transportation, wherein reel 2 is configured to wind and unwind hose 4, a frame 6 for supporting reel 2, and configured to be laid on a ski slope S, hose moving means configured to change the direction of hose 4 exiting reel 2, with reference to a plan view.
[0010] Advantageously, system 1 makes it possible to prepare a ski slope S in an motorized manner, requiring fewer operators and taking less time. For example, a snowcat G comprises a perforated bar or tube and moves on the ski slope; pressurized water exits through the holes of the bar or tube and penetrates the show, thus freezing and making ski slope S harder. This treatment is particularly suitable for preparing ski slope S for sporting events, such as races or training sessions. System 1 of the invention can wind and unwind hose 4 that supplies water from reel 2 to snowcat G, thus avoiding the presence of many meters of loose and muddled hose 4 between snowcat G and reel 2, and also avoiding that snowcat G might pass over said hose 4, with the risk of damaging it. As will become apparent from the description, when snowcat G moves towards the system, reel 2 will wind hose 4, and vice versa.
[0011] Preferably, the hose moving means comprise reel turning means for turning reel 2, with reference to a plan view. In particular, reel turning means can move, in particular turn, reel 2 relative to frame 6. Reel 2 is rotatably mounted to frame 6, e.g. through a slewing ring 8 interposed between them 2, 6. Therefore, reel 2 is also capable of, in addition to turning about a winding axis x-x to wind and unwind hose 4, turning about a first axis z-z. First axis z-z is perpendicular to a plane in which winding axis x-x lies. In particular, first axis z-z is vertical when system 1 is lying on a horizontal surface. In particular, winding axis x-x is horizontal when system 1 is lying on a horizontal surface.
[0012] In particular, reel 2 is mounted rotatable about a first axis z-z, which is different from a winding axis x-x of hose 4, and there is a first actuator, preferably a hydraulic actuator, for turning reel 2 about said first axis z-z.
[0013] Preferably, in addition or as an alternative to reel turning means 2, the hose moving means comprise a moving device separate from reel 2 and configured to move hose 4 with reference to a plan view. Preferably, the moving device cannot move, in particular turn, reel 2 relative to frame 6.
[0014] In particular, the moving device comprises a movable arm 7 for moving hose 4, and a second actuator 36, preferably a hydraulic actuator (e.g. a hydraulic jack), for moving arm 7. Arm 7 is movably mounted, in particular hinged, to frame 6. In particular, arm 7 is rotatable relative to frame 6 about a substantially vertical axis of rotation when system 1 is lying on a horizontal surface. In particular, a first end of said hydraulic jack is hinged to frame 6, and a second end of said hydraulic jack is hinged to arm 7.
[0015] In the example, arm 7 has an opening 28 in which hose 4 exiting reel 2 is slidably retained. Opening 28 may optionally include a roller to facilitate the sliding action of hose 4 while winding or unwinding said hose 4. Opening 28 is located at a distal end of arm 7.
[0016] Preferably, system 1 includes an actuator, preferably a hydraulic actuator, for winding and unwinding reel 2. Therefore, said actuator can turn reel 2 about winding axis x-x. For example, the system includes, for winding and unwinding reel 2, an actuator which may alternatively consist of an electric motor or an internal combustion engine.
[0017] In the preferred embodiment shown herein, hose moving means 4 comprise both the reel turning means and the moving device.
[0018] In general, the moving means are used to direct hose 4 exiting reel 2 towards snowcat G, and to stick to that direction as much as possible as snowcat G moves. This prevents hose 4 from undergoing excessive bending in proximity to reel 2, caused by the movement of snowcat G on ski slope S; moreover, this will reduce the length of hose 4 lying on ski slope S, thus reducing the probability that snowcat G might run over said hose 4.
[0019] From an operational viewpoint, the following steps are executed in order to prepare ski slope S: laying reel system 1 on ski slope S, connecting hose 4 to snowcat G, distributing water, coming from reel system 1, onto ski slope S by means of snowcat G, moving snowcat G on ski slope S in order to distribute water in different areas of ski slope S, winding / unwinding hose 4 on / from reel 2 when snowcat G moves farther from or closer to reel system 1, operating moving means in order to direct hose 4 exiting reel 2 towards snowcat G.
[0020] The special reel-type system 1 shown herein comprises a connection portion 10 configured to be connected to a source of water, in particular pressurized water, to be supplied to hose 4. The water source may be a pump, a water supply network, a tank truck, etc. Also, the water source may be a snow gun located on ski slope S. In this latter case, there is a step of placing reel system 1 close to the snow gun, and connecting connection portion 10 to a water intake part of the snow gun. After treating an area of ski slope S reachable by the length of hose 4, there are steps of disconnecting connection portion 10 from the snow gun, moving reel system 1, e.g. close to another snow gun, and repeating the above operations. In the example, one can see a section of a water supply hose 12 connected to connection portion 10 to supply water thereto.
[0021] Optionally, system 1 includes a nozzle 14 to deliver water. Nozzle 14 is distinct from hose 4 of reel 2. In particular, reel system 1 comprises a switching system to switch the intake water towards hose 4 of reel 2 and / or towards nozzle 14. In particular, nozzle 14 is intended to be supplied with water coming from connection portion 10. Optionally, the switching system selectively allows directing the intake water towards either hose 4 of reel 2 or nozzle 14, or towards both. For example, the switching system is a valve device, conveniently operable by hand. For example, the switching system includes a three-way valve.
[0022] In the example, there is a nozzle hose 32 for supplying the intake water, in particular the water entering connection portion 10, to system 1 and to nozzle 14. Preferably, nozzle hose 32 is of the same type as hose 4 of reel 2.
[0023] In particular, the switching system is associated with connection portion 10; in particular, it is located in proximity to connection portion 10. In particular, the switching system is configured to divert the water from connection portion 10 towards hose 4 of reel 2 and / or towards nozzle 14.
[0024] In the example, the switching system includes a duct 30, which in particular has a cylindrical shape, intended to be filled with water entering connection portion 10. In particular, duct 30 is coupled to connection portion 10. A portion of duct 30 (in particular, a first end of duct 30) is hydraulically connected to hose 4 of reel 2, and another portion of duct 30 (in particular, a second end of duct 30) is hydraulically connected to nozzle hose 32. Preferably, duct 30 is made of metal. Therefore, water enters duct 30 through connection portion 10 and flows from duct into hoses 4, 32. In this particular example, there is a valve capable of either allowing or stopping the water flow from connection portion 10 to duct 30. Preferably, said valve can be operated by means of a knob 16.
[0025] In the particular embodiment shown herein, the switching system comprises a valve configured to assume an open position, in which water can flow towards hose 4 and nozzle 14 (if nozzle 14 is present), and a closed position, in which water is prevented from flowing towards hose 4 and nozzle 14 (if present). In more detail, there is a knob 16 by means of which a user can switch the valve into the open or closed position.
[0026] Optionally, nozzle 14 comprises a delivery jet 18 and, in proximity to jet 18, a tap that can be used to either allow or prevent the distribution of water through nozzle 14.
[0027] In the example, nozzle 14 is mounted to arm 7. In particular, an auxiliary arm 9, on which nozzle 14 is mounted, is mounted to arm 7. However, nozzle 14 may also be mounted to other parts of system 1. Preferably, nozzle 14 is removably mounted to or laid on the system. A user can thus take nozzle 14 in order to distribute water onto ski slope S manually. When nozzle 14 is mounted to a suitable support area (e.g. auxiliary arm 9) of system 1, the user can spray water without having to withstand the force of high-pressure water.
[0028] In the example, frame 6 includes stabilizers 20 (four in this example). Preferably, stabilizers 20 are adjustable, in particular both vertically and laterally. Conveniently, stabilizers 20 can be individually adjusted. For example, reel system 1 has a hydraulic circuit for operating stabilizers 20. Stabilizers 20 can be extracted and retracted. For example, stabilizers 20 are driven by respective actuators 34, such as hydraulic jacks.
[0029] Preferably, frame 6 includes feet 22 adapted to rest on the ski slope. In the example, a respective foot 22 is associated with each stabilizer 20. Preferably, feet 22 have an anti-slip conformation to improve the grip on the snow-clad ski slope S. For example, foot 22 has a corrugated surface, points, or spikes.
[0030] Hose 4 is of the non-collapsible type, and therefore its cross-sectional shape remains substantially unchanged even when there is no fluid therein. It is thus possible to pump water into hose 4 when hose 4 is wound on reel 2, because the hose cross-section allows fluids to flow through. This is advantageous because it is not necessary to completely unwind hose 4 from reel 2 in order to start treating ski slope S. Preferably, the material of hose 4 comprises a polymeric material and, in particular, a metallic reinforcement. The metallic reinforcement may include metal braids or wires. For example, hose 4 is made of polymeric material and includes reinforcing metal braids (in particular, steel braids). The polymeric material of hose 4 may be synthetic rubber.
[0031] Preferably, hose 4 is configured to operate correctly at temperatures between -40°C and 100°C. Preferably, hose 4 has an outside diameter of 10 cm to 30 cm. Preferably, hose 4 can withstand an internal fluid pressure of 100 bar.
[0032] Preferably, hose 4 is compliant with one or more of the following Standards or Regulations: EN 857 2SC, ISO 11237 2SC, SAE 100 R16, DN 25 SAE 100 R17, ISO 11237 R17. Merely by way of example, it is possible to employ the hoses named "Rockmaster / 2SC" from company Manuli Hydraulics. For example, hose 4 is approximately 200m long. For example, hose 4 is configured to withstand an internal water pressure of 20 bar, 50 bar, 100 bar, or 200 bar.
[0033] Preferably, frame 6 is shaped in a manner such that it can be coupled to and transported by a machine, e.g. a pallet truck. In the example, frame 6 has two cavities 24 intended to receive the forks of a pallet truck.
[0034] In the particular example show herein, system 1 includes a motor 26, preferably an endothermic engine or an electric motor, supplying the necessary power to operate one or more movable parts of system 1, in particular to operate one or more of: a device for winding and unwinding reel 2, the hose moving means, the reel turning means, the moving device, arm 7, a system for turning slewing ring 8, stabilizers 20.
[0035] In this specific example, the movable parts of system 1 are driven by respective hydraulic actuators (e.g. hydraulic jacks), which receive power from motor 26. Therefore, motor 26 is adapted to supply power to a hydraulic system configured to move the movable parts of system 1.
[0036] The following will describe an example of a system for winding and unwinding reel 2. In particular, reel 2 comprises a first toothed wheel 38 configured to be driven by a first drive gear (not shown) for turning said reel 2 about winding axis x-x. Therefore, the first drive gear is engaged with first toothed wheel 38 to wind or unwind reel 2. First toothed wheel 38 is rotatable about winding axis x-x. In this particular example, motor 26 operates the first drive gear.
[0037] In the example, reel 2 is mounted rotatable relative to a support frame 40, which 40 is rotatably mounted to frame 6 through a slewing ring 8. In particular, reel 2 is rotatable about winding axis x-x relative to support frame 40, and support frame 40 is rotatable about first axis z-z relative to frame 6. In particular, support frame 40 comprises a second toothed wheel 42 configured to be driven by a second drive gear (not shown). Therefore, the second drive gear is engaged with second toothed wheel 42 to turn reel about first axis z-z. In particular, there is an actuator 44, e.g. a hydraulic motor, that operates the drive gear. In this particular example, motor 26 supplies power to actuator 44 that operates the second drive gear. In particular, second toothed wheel 42 is rotatable about first axis of rotation z-z.
[0038] With reference to the preferred variant shown in Figure 5, system 1 comprises an auxiliary device 46 configured to exert a force on hose 4 to extract hose 4 from reel 2 as reel 2 unwinds hose 4, and to move hose 4 towards reel 2 as reel 2 winds hose 4. Auxiliary device 46 supplements means adapted to turn reel 2 in order to wind and unwind hose 4. Therefore, it 46 is not adapted to turn reel 2 about winding axis x-x, since its function is to facilitate the winding and unwinding of hose 4 on / from reel 2. Preferably, the operation of auxiliary device 46 is coordinated with the rotation of reel 2 about winding axis x-x, e.g. by means of a control system.
[0039] When hose 4 is full of water and extends on ski slope S for tens or hundreds of meters, considering that ski slope S may be very steep, hose 4 is very heavy and might remain stuck to reel 2 as the latter 2 rotates (about axis x-x) to unwind it. Also, it might be difficult to wind hose 4 on reel 2 when it 4 is full of water, because it is heavy. Auxiliary device 46 is useful to assist reel 2 in winding and unwinding hose 4, so that it can be wound in an orderly manner on reel 2 without leaving any loose sections of hose 4 that might be a cause of malfunction.
[0040] Preferably, auxiliary device 46 includes a pair of motorized rollers 48, between which hose 4 is interposed. Motorized rollers 48 are adapted to act upon hose 4. In particular, motorized rollers 48 are in contact with hose 4. Motorized rollers 48 are adapted to pull hose 4 away from reel 2 and to pull hose 4 towards reel 2. There is an actuator or motor for turning motorized rollers 48. In general, auxiliary device 46 includes a motor or actuator supplying the necessary force to act upon hose 4. In the illustrated example, each motorized roller 48 is rotatably driven by a respective motor 50 (e.g. a hydraulic or electric motor). There are, therefore, two motors 50. In the example, motorized rollers 48 are adapted to rotate about a substantially vertical axis. In the example, motors 50 are located in proximity to the associated motorized rollers 48, in particular on arm 7.
[0041] Optionally, motorized rollers 48 are at least partly made of polymeric material or rubber. This ensures better friction with hose 4.
[0042] Preferably, motorized rollers 48 have each a corrugated surface 52, e.g. comprising protrusions and recesses, said surface being adapted for contacting hose 4. This improves the friction between motorized rollers 48 and hose 4.
[0043] Preferably, auxiliary device 46 is also applicable to the embodiment of Fig. 1.
[0044] In particular, auxiliary device 46 is mounted to arm 7, preferably to a distal end of arm 7. According to one possible variant, auxiliary device 46 may also be arranged in areas of system 1 other than arm 7.
[0045] In particular, motorized rollers 48 contribute to creating the opening 28 in which hose 4 exiting reel 2 is slidably held. Opening 28 may optionally include an idle roller 54, preferably two idle rollers 54, to facilitate the sliding action of hose 4 while winding or unwinding said hose 4. Opening 28 is located near the distal end of arm 7. In particular, idle rollers 54 are adapted to rotate about a substantially horizontal axis. In the example, opening 28 is defined by idle rollers 54 (top and bottom) and by motorized rollers 48 (right and left).
[0046] According to one possible variant, auxiliary device 46 comprises only one motorized roller 48 and one idle roller (e.g. replacing the other motorized roller 48) to act upon hose 4 and facilitate the winding and unwinding of the same on reel 2.
[0047] According to one possible variant, instead of motorized rollers 48, auxiliary device 46 comprises a track-type system (e.g. including one or more motorized tracks) to act upon hose 4 and facilitate the winding and unwinding of the same on reel 2.
[0048] Preferably, system 1 includes liftable wheels 56 for moving system 1 on a floor, in particular on a hard floor (i.e. not the snow of ski slope S). Wheels 56 are configured to be lifted and lowered. Wheels 56 are useful for moving system 1 easily on a hard surface (e.g. in a garage). For example, two or four wheels 56 may be provided. Wheels 56 are movably mounted to frame 6. Preferably, system 1 includes an actuator for lifting and lowering wheels 56. Wheels 56 are preferably idle.
[0049] Preferably, system 1 includes a blade 58, in particular provided with a serrated part 60, configured to lay on the snow of ski slope S in order to hold system 1 in position. By partially penetrating the snow of ski slope, blade 58 holds system 1 more firmly on ski slope S when system 1 is in operation. Optionally, blade 58 is movably mounted to frame 6, so that it can be lowered or lifted. Preferably, system 1 includes an actuator for lifting and lowering blade 58.
[0050] In the non-limiting example shown herein, a pair of such wheels 56 is integrally mounted to blade 58, more particularly to the lateral ends of blade 58.
[0051] According to a preferred variant, however, wheels 56 are not rigidly mounted to blade 58, so that wheels 56 can be lifted / lowered independently of blade 58. For example, blade 58 and wheels 56 are mounted to two different areas of frame 6. For example, actuators are provided for lifting and lowering wheels 56 (wherein each actuator is adapted to lift or lower the associated wheel 56), and another actuator is provided for lifting and lowering blade 58.
[0052] In the example, a pair of movable, in particular rotatable, arms 62 connect frame 6 to blade 60. Arms 62 are adapted to lift and lower blade 6 and wheels 56.
[0053] In the example of Figure 5, a pair of rods 64 are mounted, in particular rigidly, to frame 6, which are intended to lie on ski slope S in order to support system 1. In particular, rods 64 are straight and parallel. Rods 64 shown in the drawing are arranged laterally to system 1, with reference to a plan view.
[0054] The variant shown in Figure 5 is not equipped with stabilizers 20, in particular those described and illustrated with reference to Figure 1.
[0055] Of course, without prejudice to the principle of the invention, the forms of embodiment and the implementation details may be extensively varied from those described and illustrated herein by way of non-limiting example, without however departing from the scope of the invention as set out in the appended claims.
