Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a sealing tape, and in particular a sealing tape, which is used when installing windows and the like in the reveals of a building. It is known from the prior art that sealing tapes are attached to the edges of windows, and these windows, fitted with the sealing tapes, are then installed in a reveal of a building.

[0002] For this purpose, foam sealants with delayed expansion are often used. First, such a sealing strip is attached to a window frame. This causes the sealing strip to begin expanding. Immediately afterwards, while the sealing strip has not yet fully expanded, the window frame is inserted into the reveal. The complete expansion then occurs within the joint.

[0003] On the other hand, efforts are made to minimize the time-consuming steps that need to be carried out on-site and, conversely, to complete as many steps as possible during the preparatory phase. Furthermore, complications can often arise during the installation of the window or other object when inserting the sealing tape into reveals, due to partial retraction of the tape. These cases are becoming more frequent, especially given the trend towards increasingly larger window elements and doors.

[0004] Another aspect of the present invention is the provision of a sealing tape which also serves fire protection purposes.

[0005] From EP 2 138 664 A1 a sealing tape is known which serves to seal a joint and has an elastically resilient foam strip.

[0006] WO 98 / 45565 describes a sealing strip between two structural parts.

[0007] From EP 1 959 064 A1, a resilient sealing tape is known. This tape comprises an elastically resilient foam strip of rectangular cross-section, which is held in a compressed state. This is achieved by at least one releasable seam extending over the sealing tape, made of at least one thread.

[0008] EP 2 333 177 A1 describes a pre-compressed sealing tape. This tape has a resilient foam strip that extends further in the longitudinal direction than in the transverse direction and has side surfaces and transverse surfaces.

[0009] EP 2 333 178 A1 discloses a sealing tape. A strip-shaped element is provided which has a higher flexural strength in the transverse direction than the foam strip, wherein the strip-shaped element is arranged in the region of a first transverse surface of the foam strip.

[0010] A fire protection product is known from WO 2020 / 065243 A1.

[0011] Based on the prior art, the problem underlying the patent application is to provide a sealing tape in which the expansion of the sealing tape can be specifically initiated. This would, for example, enable faster installation of windows in reveals.

[0012] This is achieved according to the invention by the subject matter of the independent claims. Advantageous embodiments and further developments are the subject matter of the dependent claims.

[0013] A sealing tape according to the invention, in particular for sealing windows or doors against a building structure and in particular a reveal of a building structure, has a base body made of an expandable foam which extends in a longitudinal direction, in a lateral direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and in a vertical direction perpendicular to the longitudinal and lateral directions, wherein the foam is expandable at least in this vertical direction.

[0014] Furthermore, a (in particular ribbon-like and / or film-like) retaining means is provided which surrounds the base body at least section by section and which is suitable and intended to at least partially prevent expansion of the base body in the vertical direction, wherein the retaining means extends at least in the longitudinal direction and in the vertical direction and wherein the retaining means is at least section by section detachable in order to allow expansion of the base body.

[0015] The present invention further relates to a fire protection sealing tape, in particular as a fire barrier in a facade, comprising a base body made of an expandable foam which extends in a longitudinal direction and in a lateral direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and in a vertical direction perpendicular to the longitudinal and lateral directions, wherein the foam is expandable at least in this vertical direction, comprising a retaining means which surrounds the base body at least section by section and wherein the retaining means extends at least in the longitudinal and vertical directions and wherein the retaining means is at least section by section releasable in order to allow expansion of the base body, in particular in its vertical direction.

[0016] According to the invention, the retaining means is suitable and intended to prevent an expansion of the base body in the vertical direction, wherein the retaining means can be released by the application of heat in such a way that an expansion of the base body in the vertical direction is enabled.

[0017] In this design, the sealing tape is particularly suitable for fire protection. With this product, the retaining agent preferably remains attached to the base body even when the sealing tape is installed and only detaches in the event of a fire, in order to achieve an improved seal through the expansion of the base body.

[0018] Preferably, this sealing tape is dimensioned such that, in a state in which the retaining agent is still present, it leaves a gap between the sealing tape and another building component.

[0019] Only in the event of a fire does the sealing tape preferably expand to close this gap. Preferably, the sealing tape is dimensioned such that the resulting gap has a width greater than 5 mm, preferably greater than 7 mm, and particularly preferably greater than 9 mm. More preferably, the resulting gap has a width less than 50 mm, preferably less than 40 mm, preferably less than 30 mm, and particularly preferably less than or equal to 25 mm. The challenge in the event of a fire is to close this gap as quickly as possible and prevent further spread of the fire.

[0020] The ventilation gap serves for thermal insulation and moisture regulation in the facade. Without stiffening agents, it has been observed that the compressed foam tends to form a semicircular shape in the middle of the strip and bulge out to such an extent that the ventilation gap is almost completely closed. While this is helpful in case of fire, it is undesirable from a building physics perspective. The main concern is that water or damp areas will then be unable to dry out, ultimately damaging the building structure. Nevertheless, stiffening agents are not strictly necessary.

[0021] This adds a variant and application to the range of fire-resistant tapes. Activation in this type of tape typically occurs only through the heat of a fire. However, it would also be conceivable for such a sealing tape to be installed in a joint and then activated and fully expanded.

[0022] Such products are also called fire barriers, which usually run horizontally, but also vertically, along the building envelope and are intended to close the ventilation gap in the facade in the event of a fire.

[0023] In a preferred embodiment, the (fire protection) sealing tape has an (additional) stiffening means which preferably also extends in the longitudinal and lateral directions and which preferably runs parallel to the base body.

[0024] This stiffening agent, which is described in more detail below, preferably prevents bending of the base body or unevenness.

[0025] In a further preferred embodiment, the retaining means is designed, at least in sections, such that it stiffens the base body, particularly in a plane extending in the longitudinal and lateral directions.

[0026] This can be achieved, for example, by ensuring sufficient tension between the restraint and the base body. Alternatively, it can be achieved, for example, by a certain stiffness of the restraint itself, particularly in the area where the restraint runs parallel to the base body.

[0027] It would also be possible that a reinforcing or stiffening material, such as an adhesive, is attached to the restraint device itself, particularly in the area that is in contact with the base body.

[0028] In addition, it would also be conceivable that the basic body itself is stiffer in certain areas than in others, at least in some sections.

[0029] Partial enclosure of the base body is understood to mean, in particular, that the retaining means at least partially surrounds the base body with respect to its longitudinal direction, for example, on at least two mutually perpendicular sides and preferably on at least three mutually perpendicular sides, each extending in the longitudinal direction. However, it would also be conceivable for the retaining means to completely surround the base body.

[0030] Preferably, the retaining means rests against the base body at least partially. In particular, the retaining means rests against at least one side surface of the base body, and preferably against at least two side surfaces, and especially two side surfaces that extend in the longitudinal and vertical directions.

[0031] Preferably, the restraint device has at least one attachment section in order to be attached to another element.

[0032] Advantageously, the sealing tape can have one or more stiffening elements, or it can have a single stiffening element that preferably extends in both the longitudinal and lateral directions and preferably runs parallel to the base body. A stiffening element is understood to be, in particular, a means that significantly increases the stiffness of the entire assembly with respect to bending. This increase in stiffness can, in particular, simplify the application of the sealing tape to an object such as a window or facade.

[0033] Particularly preferably, this stiffening element is also partially surrounded by the retaining element. This means that in a state where the retaining element is arranged on the base body, the stiffening element is also held within the retaining element and / or surrounded by the retaining element in at least two and preferably in at least three mutually perpendicular directions.

[0034] In a further preferred embodiment, the melting point of the retaining agent is lower than the melting point or decomposition temperature of the base body. This ensures that, in the event of a fire, the retaining agent melts first before the base body is affected by the heat.

[0035] In a further advantageous embodiment, the retaining agent has a melting point that lies between 100°C and 200°C.

[0036] In a further preferred embodiment, the base body is provided with an impregnating agent which contains at least one substance promoting fire protection, preferably this substance being or containing expandable graphite.

[0037] In a particularly preferred embodiment, the impregnating agent comprises at least water and a binder for binding solid components of the impregnating agent to the foam material, expandable graphite, and preferably a phosphorus-containing compound.

[0038] The compressed foam or base body with expandable graphite offers advantages over previously known products because, after activation, the foam or base body quickly returns to its original size and completely seals the joint. Before the PU foam completely dissolves due to the heat, the expandable graphite takes over the sealing effect against fire.

[0039] Typical requirements for such a product include fire resistance classes such as EI30, EI60, EI90, up to EI120, which corresponds to a fire resistance of 30-120 minutes. The tape should prevent the spread of flames for this duration.

[0040] In particular, the fire-resistant tape is a rolled-up fire-resistant tape. This fire-resistant tape preferably has a specified fire resistance rating. Advantageously, the carbon content of the expandable graphite is between 80 and 99%. Expandable graphite is known to expand when heated. This effect is used here for fire protection purposes. This expansion of the expandable graphite also generates high pressure, which is particularly advantageous when the material is spatially confined.

[0041] Furthermore, a carbon-containing insulating substance is produced, which shields the foundation structure from the heat source. Preferably, the composition of the expandable graphite is selected such that its expansion begins at a specific temperature, this temperature preferably being between 90°C and 240°C, more preferably between 120°C and 200°C, and particularly preferably between 140°C and 190°C, and most preferably between 160°C and 180°C. In this way, a flame-retardant or non-combustible foam profile can preferably be provided for the fire-resistant sealing of building openings, such as, but not exclusively, joints, gaps between building components, or wall penetrations.

[0042] In a preferred embodiment, the material is a reticulated foam. In particular, a reticulated polyurethane foam, and especially a reticulated flexible polyurethane foam, is used. In this way, the foam carrier or base body also fulfills the function of a filter foam. Reticulation, which is a post-treatment of the foam, results in a (significantly) increased permeability to liquids, gases, or air. Such flexible polyurethane foams are particularly well-suited with regard to the typical grain diameters of expandable graphite. Reticulation of the foam is also particularly advantageous when using expandable graphite.

[0043] In general, both open-cell and closed-cell foams can be used, although open-cell foams are preferred. For example, flexible silicone foams could also be used. Instead of polyurethane foams, polyvinyl chloride foams, polyolfin foams, polystyrene foams, foams based on copolymers of acrylonitrile, styrene, and possibly butadiene could also be used, as well as foams made of thermosetting resins such as melamine-formaldehyde resins or phenol-formaldehyde resins. The latter applies particularly to coatings.

[0044] In a further advantageous embodiment, the foam carrier or base body has a cell size between 2,000 and 7,000 µm, preferably between 3,000 and 6,000 µm, and particularly preferably between 3,400 and 5,600 µm. This cell size has proven particularly suitable for accommodating expandable graphite particles. Preferably, the foam is an open-cell foam. These cells are particularly suitable and intended for accommodating particles, and especially expandable graphite particles.

[0045] The foam is preferably produced by a polyurethane foaming process. Liquid and reactive starting materials can also be used. In particular, long-chain polyols are used in the production. According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the foam is a polyurethane foam, preferably a flexible polyurethane foam. Such a foam has proven to be particularly advantageous because it exhibits particularly favorable elastic properties with a particularly favorable resilience, thus enabling a reliable sealing of building openings.

[0046] The production of the impregnated foam can be achieved, for example, by impregnating the foam with intumescent or foam-forming agents that expand in the event of a fire. The ingredients of the fire-retardant compound (or dispersion or impregnating agent) are preferably mixed together using a stirrer. Subsequently, the raw foam, which is obtained as sheet or roll material from a polyurethane block foam, is preferably impregnated with the fire-retardant compound in an impregnation system to achieve a predetermined higher density.

[0047] For example, the foam or a foam carrier could be immersed in a solution or dispersion of the impregnating agent. Additionally or alternatively, the foam carrier could be transported through a bath of impregnating agent during production, for example, by being drawn out. If necessary, dipping or squeezing rollers can be used. Thus, the product is preferably a foam that is squeezed and preferably also dried during production.

[0048] Excess impregnating agent can be squeezed out of the foam between rollers until the desired degree of impregnation is reached. Drying then takes place, resulting in the impregnating agent bonding firmly to the foam. The degree of impregnation can be adjusted by varying the roller pressure / distance between rollers. This allows for variation in the amount of impregnating agent absorbed by the foam. Subsequently, or after compression of the impregnated sheet or roll material, it is cut to the specified application dimensions. Therefore, the fire protection material is preferably designed as a roll or roll material.

[0049] Advantageously, this foam carrier has a density greater than 15 kg / m³, preferably greater than 20 kg / m³, and particularly preferably greater than 24 kg / m³. Advantageously, the carrier has a density less than 40 kg / m³, preferably less than 35 kg / m³, particularly preferably less than 30 kg / m³, and particularly preferably less than 26 kg / m³. These densities have proven particularly suitable for impregnation with the impregnating agent containing expandable graphite.

[0050] Advantageously, the foam substrate is at least partially, and preferably completely, permeated with the impregnating agent. Preferably, the foam substrate is permeated with the impregnating agent in a substantially uniform manner. Preferably, at least 60 kg, more preferably at least 70 kg, more preferably at least 80 kg, and particularly preferably at least 90 kg of (dry) impregnating agent are incorporated into 1 m³ of soft foam. Preferably, at most 200 kg, more preferably at most 180 kg, more preferably at most 150 kg, more preferably at most 120 kg, and particularly preferably at most 110 kg of (dry) impregnating agent are incorporated into 1 m³ of soft foam.

[0051] The bulk density of the finished (and uncompressed) product is preferably greater than 70 kg / m³, preferably greater than 80 kg / m³, preferably greater than 90 kg / m³, preferably greater than 100 kg / m³, preferably greater than 110 kg / m³, preferably greater than 115 kg / m³, and preferably greater than 120 kg / m³. The bulk density of the finished (and uncompressed) product is preferably less than 160 kg / m³, preferably less than 150 kg / m³, and particularly preferably less than 140 kg / m³.

[0052] In another preferred embodiment, the binder is an acrylate binder. This acrylate binder preferably has a solids content of more than 30%, more than 35%, more preferably more than 40%, more preferably more than 45%, and more preferably more than 50%.

[0053] Furthermore, the acrylate binder preferably has a solids content of less than 80%, more preferably less than 70%, more preferably less than 65%, and most preferably less than 60%. Preferably, the acrylate binder has a solids content of approximately 55%.

[0054] In general, it would also be possible to use binders containing, for example, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl acrylate, polyvinyl chloride copolymers, polychloroprene, and carbon-forming agents such as phenolic resins, melamine resins, polyimides, or polyacrylonitrile. In addition, both water-based and solvent-based fire retardants can be used.

[0055] In a further advantageous embodiment, the impregnating compound comprises a phosphate, preferably a polyphosphate, and particularly preferably ammonium polyphosphate, as a phosphorus-containing compound. This ammonium polyphosphate can have a pH value between 5 and 8, and preferably between 5.5 and 7.5. Advantageously, the viscosity of the ammonium polyphosphate at a temperature of 25°C and a 10% suspension is less than 200 mPas, preferably less than 150 mPas, and particularly preferably less than 100 mPas. In general, other flame retardants, for example, based on halogen, boron, or nitrogen compounds, would also be suitable to achieve low flammability or non-flammability.

[0056] The use of phosphorus compounds, especially in conjunction with expandable graphite, has proven particularly advantageous in both processing and application. An ammonium polyphosphate suspension of between 5% and 20%, preferably between 7% and 18%, and preferably between 8% and 12% (these percentages are weight percent), has proven especially suitable. Such an ammonium polyphosphate suspension preferably forms a slurry in water, with the specifically light powder remaining suspended quite well. However, only a fraction of less than 10%, preferably less than 5%, preferably less than 3%, preferably less than 2%, preferably less than 1%, and preferably only about 0.5%, dissolves.

[0057] In a preferred embodiment, sufficient fire protection or flame retardancy can be achieved—particularly through synergistic effects—by a phosphorus-containing compound with the expandable graphite, thus eliminating the need for layered silicates as additional fire or flame retardants. In a further preferred embodiment, no additional fire or flame retardants are required at all, so that the fire protection tape, in addition to the foam, the adhesive surface, and the components mentioned above, consists solely of expandable graphite, the at least one phosphorus-containing compound, and (optionally) water and / or binder, and any impurities or other components present in a weight fraction of less than 2%, preferably less than 1%.

[0058] Advantageously, as mentioned above, a phosphate, particularly preferably a polyphosphate, and most preferably an ammonium polyphosphate, is used as the phosphorus-containing compound. This ammonium polyphosphate advantageously has a phosphorus content (in %(w / w)) between 25 and 36, more preferably between 28 and 35, and most preferably between 31 and 33. The nitrogen content (also in %(w / w)) is preferably between 10 and 20, more preferably between 12 and 18, and most preferably between 14 and 15.

[0059] The water content of the substance (also in %(w / w)) is preferably less than 1, more preferably less than 0.5, more preferably less than 0.4, and more preferably less than 0.3. The solubility in water (based on a 10% solution) is preferably (in %(w / w)) less than 1.0, more preferably less than 0.8, more preferably less than 0.7, more preferably less than 0.6, and more preferably less than 0.55. These percentages are given as weight percent.

[0060] The average particle size of the ammonium polyphosphate (in µm) is between 5 and 25, preferably between 10 and 20 and particularly preferably between 15 and 18.

[0061] The particle size of the expanded graphite (measured in mesh) is preferably greater than 20 mesh, more preferably greater than 30 mesh, more preferably greater than 40 mesh, and more preferably greater than 50 mesh. (This specification describes the particle size of material sieved through sieves with corresponding mesh sizes.) The mesh sizes mentioned above represent the mesh size at which at least 80% of the particles remain in the sieve. The standard ASTM E11-87 is taken into account. Preferably, between 8% and 12% have a size greater than 500 µm, and / or between 80% and 90% have a size greater than 200 µm (and less than 500 µm), and / or between 1% and 4% have a size greater than 100 µm (and less than 200 µm).

[0062] In another preferred embodiment, the binder, together with the expandable graphite and / or the ammonium polyphosphate, forms an intumescent mass.

[0063] Advantageously, the impregnating agent has a water content of between 40 and 60 parts per 100 (due to the water content of the acrylate), and / or a binder content of between 25 and 35 parts per 100, and / or a flexural graphite content of between 15 and 25 parts per 100. The binder is preferably present as a solution, suspension, or emulsion. The solid content of the binder is preferably between 30 and 80%, more preferably between 40 and 70%, and most preferably between 50 and 60%. Water, an organic solvent, or a solvent mixture can be used as the solvent (in the case of a solution), the external phase (in the case of emulsions), or the liquid phase (in the case of suspensions). These values are given as weight percent.

[0064] Preferably, the proportion of the phosphorus-containing compound, particularly preferably of ammonium polyphosphate, is between 1 and 10 parts per 100, more preferably between 1 and 5 parts per 100. These values refer to weight percent.

[0065] In a further preferred embodiment, the substance also contains a preservative, and particularly preferably about 1 part per 100 parts of preservative. These values refer to percentages by weight.

[0066] The binder, which in a particularly preferred embodiment is an acrylate binder, binds the solid components. For example, approximately 100 kg of dry impregnating agent can be incorporated into the foam (particularly into approximately 1 m³ or approximately 24 kg of foam).

[0067] The present invention further relates to an impregnating agent, in particular for impregnating foams. This impregnating agent comprises 20 to 60 parts water, 20 to 40 parts binder, in particular acrylate binder, 15 to 30 parts expandable graphite, and 2 to 10 parts of a phosphorus-containing compound, in particular ammonium polyphosphate. These values are given as weight percent.

[0068] Such a composition has proven to be particularly advantageous with regard to the desired properties – on the one hand, the fire protection effect, and on the other hand, the bonding in the foam.

[0069] The proportion of the phosphorus-containing compound, in particular ammonium polyphosphate, is advantageously between 2 and 5 parts, and / or the proportion of binder, in particular acrylate binder, is between 25 and 35 parts. These figures refer to percentages by weight.

[0070] In particular, the fire-resistant tape described above, which can be wound onto a roll, offers the advantages of high air permeability during installation. Furthermore, the tape provides a very high smoke barrier in the event of a fire. Surprisingly, investigations have shown that, although the foam is very coarse-pored—which is particularly advantageous for accommodating larger expanded graphite particles—it nevertheless seals very effectively in the event of a fire. Particles above a certain diameter are preferentially required to provide the necessary expansion pressure.

[0071] In a preferred embodiment, the thickness of the freely expanded tape is between one and a half and two and a half times the intended joint width, preferably between 1.8 and 2.3 times the intended joint width, and particularly preferably approximately twice the intended joint width. This means that, in the installed state, the tape is compressed to between 30% and 70% of its thickness, preferably between 40% and 60% of its thickness, and particularly preferably between 45% and 55% of its thickness. The fire-resistant tape is preferably suitable and intended for installation in joints with a width between 5 mm and 80 mm, preferably between 10 mm and 60 mm, and particularly preferably between 10 mm and 40 mm.

[0072] In a further embodiment, the fire protection device is provided with an adhesive on at least one surface. In particular, the fire protection device is provided with a self-adhesive coating on at least one surface. Specifically, this is a surface formed by a longitudinal and a lateral direction of the fire protection device. A cover film may also be arranged on this adhesive coating. Preferably, this adhesive coating is applied over the entire surface of the respective surface.

[0073] The fire protection tape described here is suitable, for example, for joint formation between masonry components and in particular for ensuring fire resistance.

[0074] To produce the fire protection tape according to the invention, it would be possible, for example, to impregnate the foams or to coat them on all sides.

[0075] However, it would also be possible to impregnate and / or coat the foams under pressure or in a vacuum or with the help of a spraying device.

[0076] Preferably, the retaining material is in the form of a film.

[0077] Preferably, the stiffening element has a significantly lower height in the vertical direction than the base body.

[0078] The stiffening element (in the vertical direction) particularly preferably has a thickness greater than 0.5 mm, preferably greater than 1 mm, preferably greater than 1.5 mm, preferably greater than 2 mm and particularly preferably greater than 2.5 mm.

[0079] The stiffening element (in the vertical direction) particularly preferably has a thickness of less than 5 cm, preferably less than 4 cm, preferably less than 3 cm, preferably less than 2 cm, and preferably less than 1 cm, preferably less than 0.7 cm, and preferably less than 0.5 cm. The stiffening element (in the vertical direction) particularly preferably has a thickness greater than 0.1 cm, preferably greater than 0.2 cm, and particularly preferably greater than 0.3 cm.

[0080] Particularly preferably, the base body in a compressed state and / or a state held by the retaining means has a thickness between 10 mm and 100 mm.

[0081] Preferably, the base body in a fully retracted and / or fully expanded state has a thickness between 10mm and 110mm.

[0082] In a further preferred embodiment, the thickness of the base body in a fully reset state is more than 3 times greater than the thickness of the stiffening means, preferably more than 5 times greater, preferably more than 10 times greater.

[0083] In a further preferred embodiment, the thickness of the base body in a fully reset state is less than 30 times the thickness of the stiffening means, preferably less than 25 times, preferably less than 20 times.

[0084] Preferably, the sealing tape is activated by removing and / or separating the retaining element. Thus, the sealing tape is preferably an activatable sealing tape; that is, it can be activated (particularly when installed on a window frame), meaning that a user can initiate a targeted expansion of at least the base body.

[0085] In a preferred embodiment, the base body is partially and preferably completely impregnated. This impregnation is preferably designed to delay the recovery of the base body material.

[0086] In another variant, this impregnation is preferably intended to increase the fire-resistant properties of the base material. Preferably, the impregnation comprises at least one substance that serves to increase the fire-resistant properties of the sealing tape. Such an impregnation can, for example, contain expandable graphite.

[0087] Preferably, this substance is provided in the impregnation with a mass and / or volume fraction which is between 15 and 35.

[0088] Preferably, the stiffening element is a planar element which therefore extends in the longitudinal and lateral directions, but considerably less in the vertical direction.

[0089] In another preferred embodiment, the base body consists of an open-cell foam. In particular, this is a polyurethane foam.

[0090] The base body particularly preferably has a (raw foam) density greater than 10 kg / m³, preferably greater than 15 kg / m³, and particularly preferably greater than or equal to 20 kg / m³.

[0091] The base material particularly preferably has a (raw foam) density that is less than 80 kg / m³, more preferably less than 70 kg / m³, more preferably less than 60 kg / m³, more preferably less than 50 kg / m³ and most preferably less than or equal to 40 kg / m³.

[0092] The base body particularly preferably has a density of the impregnated foam that is greater than 30 kg / m 3< , preferably greater than 40 kg / m 3< and particularly preferably greater than or equal to 50 kg / m 3< .

[0093] The base body particularly preferably has a density of the impregnated foam that is less than 200 kg / m 3< , preferably less than 180 kg / m 3< and particularly preferably less than or equal to 150 kg / m 3< .

[0094] In a further advantageous embodiment, the retaining means has a first section that extends in the longitudinal and lateral directions. This section preferably extends precisely in the longitudinal and lateral directions. Particularly preferably, this first section has an area that is at least as large as an area of the base body, which also extends in the longitudinal and lateral directions.

[0095] Preferably, the retention device has at least one second section, and preferably two second sections.

[0096] This second section preferably extends in the longitudinal and vertical directions, and preferably only in the longitudinal and vertical directions. Particularly preferably, both second sections extend exclusively in the longitudinal and vertical directions. Particularly preferably, at least one of these second sections has an area that is equal to or larger than a side face of the base body in its compressed state. Particularly preferably, both second sections have an area that is equal to or larger than a side face of the base body in its compressed state.

[0097] In another preferred embodiment, the retaining element consists of a shrinkable material. Preferably, the retaining element consists of a material that shrinks when heated. Particularly preferably, the retaining element is a shrinkable film. Preferably, the retaining element is in a shrunken state in which it prevents expansion of the base body.

[0098] Particularly preferably, the first section and the second sections surround the base body on at least two and preferably on at least three sides. This ensures that the foam body is retained. Particularly preferably, the retaining means also surrounds the stiffening means on at least three sides (especially sides perpendicular to each other).

[0099] The stiffening means is particularly preferably arranged between the base body and the first section of the retention means.

[0100] In a further preferred embodiment, the retaining means has a first further section which extends in the longitudinal direction and in the width direction and which preferably runs parallel to the first section.

[0101] The retaining device particularly preferably has a second further section which extends less far in the lateral direction than the first section, but which also extends in the longitudinal direction.

[0102] The retaining device preferably has two such additional sections.

[0103] Particularly preferably, these further sections extend less than 50%, more preferably less than 40%, more preferably less than 30% and more preferably less than 20% in the width direction compared to the first section and / or compared to the width extension of the base body.

[0104] In a further preferred embodiment, the stiffening element consists of, or contains, paper or cardboard. In particular, the stiffening element consists of corrugated cardboard. Preferably, the individual flutes of this corrugated cardboard are arranged side by side in the longitudinal direction, resulting in greater stiffness, especially in the lateral direction.

[0105] In a further preferred embodiment, the stiffening element consists of a plastic sheet, in particular a corrugated sheet or a web sheet. Preferably, the individual corrugations or webs of this sheet are arranged side by side in the longitudinal direction, resulting in higher stiffness, particularly in the lateral direction.

[0106] Preferably, the plastic sheet consists of a material selected from a group of materials including polyolefin, PP, PE, PVC, PA, PC, PET, PS, hard fabric, glass hard fabric, phenolic resin, epoxy resin, polyester resin, glass fibers, and carbon fibers.

[0107] Preferably, the stiffness of the stiffening means with respect to bending in the longitudinal direction (i.e., where in particular a longitudinal axis running in the longitudinal direction of the stiffening means is bent) is lower than the stiffness of the stiffening means with respect to bending in the width direction.

[0108] In another preferred embodiment, the retaining element is designed in a foil-like form.

[0109] The retaining element is preferably made of a plastic material. The plastic is preferably LDPE (low-density polyethylene). However, other plastics are also conceivable, in particular plastics from a group containing polyolefin, PP, PE, PVC, PTFE, and PVDF.

[0110] The retaining agent is particularly preferably shrunk in a state of the sealing tape and especially in a pre-assembled state of the sealing tape.

[0111] The retaining agent is particularly preferably made of a material selected from a group of materials which includes polyolefin, PP, PE, PVC, PTFE, PVDF.

[0112] The retaining element preferably has a thickness of less than 10 mm, preferably less than 5 mm, preferably less than 2 mm, preferably less than 1 mm, particularly preferably less than 0.5 mm, particularly preferably less than 0.1 mm and particularly preferably less than 0.05 mm.

[0113] The retaining means particularly preferably has a thickness greater than 0.002 mm, preferably greater than 0.005 mm, preferably 0.01 mm, preferably greater than 0.02 mm and particularly preferably greater than 0.03 mm.

[0114] In a further preferred embodiment, the sealing tape has at least one separating agent to at least partially, and preferably completely, separate a section of the retaining agent from another section of the retaining agent.

[0115] For example, the restraint device could have (at least) one perforation or separation point that a user could easily open with a screwdriver or knife. However, it's also possible that the separation point is a tear strip that the user can use to open the restraint device. It's also conceivable that the restraint device could be separated with a knife even without perforations.

[0116] In a further advantageous embodiment, the sealing tape has at least one adhesive layer and in particular a self-adhesive layer which extends in the longitudinal direction and in the width direction and which is preferably arranged on an outer surface of the sealing tape.

[0117] This adhesive layer can be present on the sealing tape, but it is not strictly necessary. This adhesive layer creates a bond and seal between the sealing tape and the film or foil. The adhesive layer is particularly advantageous for applications where the product is to be adhered to the window while still packaged. For other applications (especially with a different type of attachment), the adhesive layer can be omitted.

[0118] Adhesive layer 16 may be present on the sealing tape, but it is not mandatory. This adhesive layer creates a bond and seal between the sealing tape and the foil. Adhesive layer 12 is essential if the product is to be adhered to the window while still packaged. For other applications (when attached differently), this adhesive layer can also be omitted.

[0119] In a further advantageous embodiment, the sealing tape has at least one adhesive layer, and in particular a self-adhesive layer, which extends in the longitudinal and lateral directions and which is preferably arranged on an outer surface of the retaining element. This self-adhesive layer makes it possible, for example, to attach the sealing tape to a window frame. It would also be conceivable for this adhesive layer to be designed as an adhesive film.

[0120] Preferably, the adhesive layer consists of a material selected from a group of adhesives including acrylate adhesives, hot melt adhesives (base polymers: PA, PE, APAO, EVAC, TPE-E, TPE-U, TPE-A), rubber adhesives, PU adhesives and wood glue (casein glue, UF glue, PF glue, RF glue, PVAc glue, PUR glue, EP glue, UP glue, MUPF glue, PDMI glue).

[0121] In a further advantageous embodiment, the sealing tape has a first additional foam body that extends in the longitudinal and lateral directions. This additional foam body is particularly preferably arranged on the base body and, in particular, directly on the base body. This additional foam body can be attached to the base body, for example, by gluing it.

[0122] Preferably, the material of this first additional foam body differs from the material of the base body in at least one physical property.

[0123] Preferably, this first additional foam body extends less in height than the base body. Particularly preferably, this additional foam body is arranged between the stiffening element and the base body.

[0124] In another preferred embodiment, this additional foam body extends in the height direction between 0.5 and 10 mm in the compressed state or 2 and 20 mm in the retracted state.

[0125] Preferably, this first additional foam body is also at least slightly resilient. Preferably, this first additional foam body consists of a closed-cell foam.

[0126] In a further preferred embodiment, the sealing tape has a second foam body. This second foam body also preferably extends in the longitudinal and lateral directions and preferably parallel to the base body.

[0127] This second additional foam body is particularly preferably arranged on the base body, and especially directly attached to the base body. This second additional foam body is also preferably attached to the base body, and especially glued in place.

[0128] The base body is particularly preferably arranged (especially directly) between the first and second further foam bodies.

[0129] Preferably, the material of this first additional foam body differs from the material of the base body in at least one physical property.

[0130] However, it is particularly preferred that the height of the second foam body be less than the height of the base body. It is also particularly preferred that the second foam body be made of closed-cell foam.

[0131] The second additional foam body and the first additional foam body are particularly preferred if they are designed or manufactured in the same way and / or from the same material.

[0132] Preferably, the stiffening element is removable from the base body. This stiffening element is particularly removable from the base body and / or any of the other foam components without causing damage. In this way, it can be ensured that the stiffening element no longer has said stiffening element in a finished installed state, for example, in a window within a reveal.

[0133] Preferably, there is no adhesive bond between the stiffening agent and one of the foams.

[0134] Particularly preferably, the stiffening means is removable from the base body together with the retaining means or at least a section of the retaining means.

[0135] This stiffening element is particularly advantageous for ensuring that the sealing tape has a cross-section that is as rectangular as possible and that the sealing tape can be attached flawlessly to a window frame. However, this stiffening element is preferably removed during installation.

[0136] In a further advantageous embodiment, the sealing tape has a second stiffening element. Preferably, this second stiffening element is also planar. Particularly preferably, the base body is arranged between the first and the second stiffening elements. Also particularly preferred are other components of the sealing tape, such as additional foams, arranged between the first and second stiffening elements.

[0137] In a further preferred embodiment, the sealing tape has a second adhesive layer and in particular a second self-adhesive layer which extends in the longitudinal and width directions and which is separated from the first adhesive layer in the height direction.

[0138] In another advantageous embodiment, the sealing tape does not have an additional stiffening agent. Instead, this function is preferably fulfilled by the choice of retention element. Furthermore, stiffening is not necessary for some applications. It would also be conceivable for this stiffening function to be performed by a curable adhesive, or for the base body itself to be designed or treated in such a way that it can perform this stiffening function on its own.

[0139] The present invention further relates to a building body and in particular to a window frame with at least one activatable sealing tape and in particular a sealing tape of the type described above, wherein the sealing tape is attached to an outer surface of the window frame and in particular is glued on.

[0140] The present invention further relates to a building structure and in particular to a fire protection barrier in the facade with at least one activatable sealing tape and in particular a sealing tape of the type described above, wherein the sealing tape is attached to the outer wall and / or insulation of the building and in particular is glued on.

[0141] This sealing tape is particularly preferably arranged and, in particular, glued to the building structure in a compressed state of the aforementioned foam(s). The sealing tape is especially preferably arranged on a surface facing the reveal into which the building structure or window is to be inserted.

[0142] The present invention further relates to a method for installing building components and, in particular, windows in buildings, wherein an (activatable) sealing tape, and in particular a sealing tape of the type described above, is applied to at least one edge or outer surface of the building component and, in particular, the window to be installed, and the retaining element of the sealing tape is separated at least section by section in such a way that the base body expands in the vertical direction.

[0143] Preferably, the separation of the retaining agent takes place shortly before the installation of the building structure into the reveal, whereby "shortly" is understood to mean a period of time that is less than 10 min, preferably less than 8 min, preferably less than 6 min and particularly preferably less than 4 min.

[0144] In another application, the sealing tape is held compressed in the joint until the retaining agent is separated and / or dissolved. This activation of the sealing tape can also be achieved by heat.

[0145] Preferably, the stiffening agent is removed with or after the separation of the retaining agent.

[0146] It is therefore proposed that ready-to-install windows be provided with the corresponding sealing tapes. These would then be inserted into the reveal, for example, and the retaining material cut. Alternatively, the retaining material can be cut, and the building structure, and in particular the window, can be inserted into the reveal immediately afterward. In this way, the installation of the building structure or window can be carried out without problems on the construction site, and no further steps are required on the construction site, such as measuring the window frame, precisely cutting the sealing tape to length, and attaching it to the building structure or window.

[0147] In a preferred method, the sealing tape has a stiffening means which also extends in the longitudinal and lateral directions and which runs parallel to the base body.

[0148] This stiffening agent is removed from the window frame or sealing tape.

[0149] It is therefore proposed that while a stiffening device, and in particular a stiffening device of the type described above, is provided, it should be removed before or during the installation of the window in the reveal. Preferably, the stiffening device is no longer present in or on the fully installed window.

[0150] Preferably, the stiffening agent remains together with the retaining agent around the sealing tape until activation.

[0151] Preferably, the stiffening agent is removed from the sealing tape together with the retaining agent.

[0152] The present invention further relates to a method for producing a sealing tape, and in particular a sealing tape of the type described above. In a first method step, a base body made of expandable foam is provided, wherein this base body extends in a longitudinal direction, in a lateral direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, and in a vertical direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the lateral direction, and wherein the foam is expandable at least in this vertical direction.

[0153] In a further process step, a retaining agent, in particular a foil-like form, which surrounds the base body at least section by section and which is suitable and intended to prevent expansion of the base body in the vertical direction, is attached to and / or around the base body, wherein the retaining agent extends at least in the longitudinal direction and in the vertical direction and wherein the retaining agent is at least section by section detachable and / or separable in order to allow expansion of the base body.

[0154] Advantageously, a stiffening element is additionally incorporated into the assembly arranged within the restraint device (which at least has the base body), which also extends in the longitudinal and lateral directions and runs parallel to the base body.

[0155] As mentioned above, the function of this stiffening element can also be performed by the retaining element. Alternatively, the base body itself can be treated in such a way that it can perform this stiffening function.

[0156] In another method according to the invention, the retaining agent can be released by the application of heat in such a way that an expansion of the base body in the vertical direction is made possible.

[0157] In another preferred method, the base body is impregnated with an impregnating agent. Preferably, this impregnating agent has flame-retardant or flame-retardant properties. Preferably, this impregnating agent contains expandable graphite.

[0158] The aim is, for example, to ensure that an activatable sealing tape is delivered to the construction site together with the window and is only activated there shortly beforehand or in the joint and / or the reveal.

[0159] Alternatively, for example, a sealing tape in a facade should be kept permanently compressed and only activated by the heat in case of fire.

[0160] The sealing tape proposed here is therefore an activatable sealing tape, whereby activatable is understood in particular to mean that an expansion of the foam(s) is achieved, especially after the separation of a retaining agent.

[0161] For manufacturing, a conventional multi-functional tape can be used, for example. A compressed roll of this tape can be opened at the factory, cut to the desired length, and a backing paper or liner removed from a self-adhesive layer. This piece of sealing tape is then preferably wrapped with a stiffening agent, such as cardboard or a plastic sheet, for example, using a film, particularly a shrink film, and shrunk. This shrinking process can be achieved, for example, by applying heat. As mentioned above, PVC or LDPE is preferably used as the material for this film.

[0162] The self-adhesive layer of the sealing tape preferably remains on the inside of the film (and especially not on the cardboard and / or the stiffening agent), thus creating a seal at the joint.

[0163] Further advantages and embodiments can be seen from the attached drawings: This shows:

[0164] Figs. 1a,b Representations of a sealing tape according to the invention in a first embodiment; Figs. 2a,b Representations of a sealing tape according to the invention in a second embodiment; Figs. 3a,b Representations of a sealing tape according to the invention in a third embodiment; Figs. 4a,b Representations for activating a sealing tape according to the invention; Fig. 5 A further representation for activating a sealing tape according to the invention; Fig. 6 A sealing tape in a further embodiment; and Fig. 7 An embodiment of the sealing tape as a fire protection product.

[0165] Fig. 1a Figure 1 shows a representation of a sealing tape according to the invention. This tape has a base body 2 made of a foam material, which extends in a longitudinal direction L, a lateral direction B and a vertical direction H. In particular, this base body or foam body 2 is expandable in the vertical direction H.

[0166] On the basic body 2, during the Figur 1a In the illustrated embodiment, a first further foam body 8 and a second further foam body 9 are arranged. While the foam body or base body 2 preferably consists of an open-cell or open-pore foam, the further foam bodies 8 and 9 preferably consist of a closed-cell or closed-pore foam. In this way, a barrier can be achieved particularly advantageously.

[0167] Reference numeral 4 designates a restraint element that partially surrounds the base body 2 and prevents its expansion in the vertical direction H. This restraint element 4 has a first section or partial surface 4a, which also extends in the longitudinal direction L and the lateral direction B and thus runs parallel to the base body 2 in these directions.

[0168] In addition, the retaining element 4 has two side sections 4b and 4c (4c not visible), which accordingly abut side surfaces of the base body 2.

[0169] Reference numeral 6 designates a stiffening agent which, in particular, provides flexural rigidity to the entire composition or the sealing tape. In this way, the sealing tape 1 can be attached to a building element 30, such as a window frame, in the manner of a strip.

[0170] Furthermore, the sealing tape has an adhesive 12, which serves to adhere the sealing tape to the building structure 30. The stiffening agent 6 also ensures that the sealing tape can be easily adhered to the building structure 30.

[0171] Fig. 1b Figure 1 shows a cross-sectional view of a sealing tape 1 according to the invention. The second side surface 4c of the retaining element 4 is also shown, which can be seen resting against a side surface of the base body 2. Another partial surface of the retaining element 4 lies below the base body 2. Preferably, the retaining element is shrink-fitted to the other components (2, 8, 9, 6).

[0172] In Figur 1b The stiffening element 6 is also shown again, which here is arranged above the further foam layer 8. It can also be seen that the base body 2 is arranged (in particular directly) between the two further foam layers 8 and 9. It can also be seen that the stiffening element 6 is arranged within the retaining element 4a, 4b, 4c and 4d.

[0173] At the in Fig. 1a,b In the embodiment shown, the semi-finished product is provided with a self-adhesive layer 12 on the side without stiffening agent 6. In this way, the product could already be glued to a window frame.

[0174] The retaining device is preferably formed in one piece.

[0175] Reference numeral 16 indicates an additional optional self-adhesive layer. This serves in particular to hold the retaining agent to the entire compound during assembly, thus creating a seal at the connection.

[0176] The Figuren 2a, 2b show a further embodiment of a sealing tape according to the invention. In this embodiment, an additional retaining layer or plate 18 serving for transport is included (cf. Fig. 2b ) provided, which preferably also acts as a stiffening agent. Reference numeral 22 denotes a further covering which surrounds the entire sealing tape in the circumferential direction.

[0177] At the in Fig. 2a,b In the illustrated design, the semi-finished product shown is equipped with a self-adhesive layer 12 on the side without cardboard, i.e., the underside. In this way, the product could already be glued to a window frame. In the Fig. 2a, b The design shown is in Figur 1a,b The described semi-finished product is further processed and coated again with another layer of cardboard (18 layers) on the previously unstiffened surface, i.e., in Figur 2a,b the underside is covered with a film 22 and shrunk.

[0178] This design serves the primary purpose of preventing the sealing tape from expanding unintentionally during transport. The product described here is specifically designed to seal gaps between building components such as a window and a reveal. First, the film 22 and stiffening agent 18 are removed after transport. As mentioned above, the lower adhesive tape (here 12), if present, is used, and the stiffening agent 6 and the retaining agent 4 are removed from the joint to achieve this seal.

[0179] This removal is a particularly advantageous step. Preferably, no adhesive layer is provided between the foam base body 2 and the stiffening agent 6. This ensures that the stiffening agent can be easily and completely removed from the sealing tape.

[0180] The procedure described here is primarily aimed at enabling activation. As mentioned, the goal is to pre-fit a window in a reveal with the sealing tape, transport it to the construction site, and only activate it once it is in the reveal.

[0181] When installing the building component, for example a window, with this product the sealing tape is ideally not yet in contact with the reveal, but an air gap is created to avoid friction.

[0182] Once the building element or window is installed, the sealing tape is activated by removing the retaining agent. This can be done, as described below, by slitting the tape and pulling out the stiffening agent. However, other methods are also conceivable, such as incorporating a tear strip or packaging thread, similar to the foil packaging of everyday consumer products.

[0183] If both sides of the retaining element 4 (inside and outside) are slit or separated accordingly, a retrieval aid is preferably provided to pull the cardboard or the stiffening element 6 out of the joint.

[0184] The Figuren 3a, 3b Figure 1 shows a further embodiment of a sealing tape according to the invention. Here again, the retaining element 4 with sections 4a, b, and 4c is provided. In addition, the self-adhesive layer 12 is provided, by means of which the sealing tape can be attached to the structure 30. In this embodiment, no stiffening element is provided. The stiffening function can, for example, be performed by the retaining element.

[0185] The Figuren 4a, b Figure 1 shows a possible procedure for installing the sealing tape in a joint between a window frame 30 and a reveal or masonry 40. For this purpose, the sealing tape is first inserted into the joint, which is done in conjunction with the building component, such as the window. Subsequently, as illustrated here by the scissors, the retaining agent is released, and the sealing tape or the base body 2 expands and thus fills the joint, as shown in Figure 2. Figur 4b shown. However, a combination of perforation and cutting is also conceivable.

[0186] The Figur 5 Figure 31 also shows a preferred procedure. Activation is achieved by pulling a tear strip or packaging thread 31. Additionally, after activation of the sealing tape, a retrieval aid 33 is used to pull the stiffening layer and retaining agent out of the joint.

[0187] Fig. 6 Figure 1 shows an embodiment in which two (further) stiffening means 19 are provided. Preferably, the base body 2 is arranged between these two stiffening means.

[0188] The Figur 7 Another design is shown in which the sealing tape is only activated by the heat generated in the event of a fire. The retaining agent then melts or burns, releasing the sealing tape for expansion.
