AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Commonly used discharge control valves in pneumatic arrangements, such as those in commercial vehicle braking systems, suffer from reduced operational lifetimes due to rust caused by water entry, especially in humid environments.

Method used

The air drying assembly connects the pressure discharge line downstream of the desiccant element, ensuring that air discharged through the electrically controllable valve is already dried, reducing moisture and thus corrosion, while an electrically controlled solenoid valve manages air flow based on vehicle or compressor state, and optional filter and purge tank configurations further enhance operational longevity.

Benefits of technology

This configuration significantly extends the operational life of the valve unit by minimizing moisture exposure and incorporating filtering and regeneration phases to maintain desiccant and filter cleanliness, ensuring consistent performance without performance reduction.

Abstract

The invention is directed to an air drying assembly 100 comprising an inlet port (1) for receiving compressed air (CA) an air drying unit (102) for outputting the dried compressed air (DA), and an outlet port (2) for providing the dried compressed air (DA) to a pneumatic unit (502). The air drying assembly (100) also comprises a pressure discharge line (112) for discharging air pressure (P) in the air drying assembly, via a pressure discharge port (114), to an environment (116), wherein a flow of discharge air (F) to the environment (116) is controlled by an electrically controllable valve unit (118). According to the invention, the pressure discharge line (112) is connected to the output port (110) of the air drying unit (102), which reduces the corrosion of the valve unit (118).
