AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing liquid metering dispensing systems, such as inhalers and vaping devices, face challenges in delivering a uniform dose while preventing thermal degradation of the metered dose and exposing the reservoir to heating processes.

Method used

A liquid metering dispensing apparatus featuring a heating chamber with an internal cavity for metered dosing, an electrical heating coil for vaporization, and a valve system to control liquid flow and vapor release, ensuring precise dosing and minimizing thermal exposure.

Benefits of technology

The apparatus achieves precise, uniform dosing of liquids, such as medicaments, by vaporizing the metered dose and releasing it in controlled droplet sizes, thereby enhancing absorption and maintaining the integrity of the liquid contents.

Abstract

A liquid dispensing apparatus for dispensing a metered liquid has a heating chamber (3) having an internal cavity (20) determining a metered dose of the liquid. An electrical heating coil (4) is arranged to heat the chamber and a normally closed first valve (30) is located at an inlet of the cavity and a normally closed second valve (31) is located at an outlet of the cavity. A reservoir (1) for the liquid has a member (5) arranged to open the first valve (30). The heating chamber is reciprocally mounted with respect to the reservoir so that motion of the heating chamber toward the reservoir brings the first valve (30) into contact with the member (5) to open the first valve. A differential pressure-drop causes liquid to flow into the cavity (20). Motion in an opposing direction causes the first valve to close and the heating coil is activated to vaporize liquid in the cavity. Provision of a negative pressure on the cavity causes the second valve (31) to open so that vapor is sucked out of the cavity (20).
