Augmented reality periscope with two-dimensional display

Abstract

A system (100, 200, 400) comprises at least one periscope (104, 402, 404, 406) comprising a periscope body (106) having a first end (108) and a second end (110), a first reflective interface (114) arranged at the first end and on an optical path of a real-world light field (116) from a real-world environment (112), and a second reflective interface (120) arranged at the second end and on the optical path of the real-world light field, the second reflective interface being positioned to receive the real world light field reflected off the first reflective interface and being oriented toward at least one user (408) during use. The system further comprises at least one transparent display (102) disposed on the optical path of the real-world light field, and at least one processor (128) configured to generate or retrieve at least one image to be displayed via the transparent display and to display the image for producing a synthetic light field (118, 206) optically combined with the real-world light field.
