Abstract

A system (100, 200, 300, 400, 900) comprises at least one periscope (102, 602, 902, 904, 906) including a periscope body having a first end (104) and a second end (106), a first reflective interface (108) arranged at the first end and on an optical path of a real-world light field (110) from a real-world environment (112), a second reflective interface (114) arranged at the second end and on the optical path of the real-world light field and oriented toward at least one user (116) during use, and at least one active optical layer (118, 500) arranged along the optical path. The system further comprises at least one sensor (120) configured to sense at least one of an acceleration, an orientation, or a relative position of at least one real-world object (606A, 606B, 606C, 606D, 608, 708A, 708B) with respect to the periscope, and at least one processor (122) configured to detect a change, estimate an amount of deflection, and control the at least one active optical layer to steer the real-world light field.
