Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Adaptable cat flap for window Technical field of the invention
[0001] The invention relates to a device for adapting a cat flap to a casement window without modifying said casement window. Previous technique
[0002] A conventional cat flap is installed in an opening made in a door or window. When a pet owner using a cat flap moves or is separated from their pet, the opening in the door or window becomes a useless element that reduces the building's insulation. Removing the cat flap and repairing the opening can then be difficult and inconvenient.
[0003] The prior art proposes an approach that consists of slightly opening an existing door and placing, in the gap formed by the opening, an adaptable cat flap. This type of cat flap consists of a rectangular panel whose upper edge is connected to a triangular panel. This type of cat flap can be adapted to a window, however, there is a first drawback: the pet cannot use a cat flap with an automatic opening chip whose detector is placed on the cat flap. A second major drawback is that the pet must jump directly through the opening of the cat flap. Unless it has undergone specific training, the pet will not be able to use such a cat flap. Presentation of the invention
[0004] The present invention aims to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks by providing a removable device for adapting a cat flap to a casement window without modifying the window and ensuring a certain degree of window sealing. "A certain degree of sealing" means that the building's insulation is only slightly degraded following the installation of the cat flap and the device according to the invention.
[0005] To this end, and according to a first aspect, the present invention proposes a device for adapting a cat flap to a window. The device comprises a rectangular piece having an opening. The device also comprises a first triangular piece, one side of which is fixed to an edge on one of the shorter sides of the rectangular piece such that the rectangular piece and the first triangular piece form a substantially right angle. The device also comprises a second triangular piece, one side of which is fixed to an edge on the other shorter side of the rectangular piece, such that the rectangular piece and the second triangular piece The two rectangular pieces form a substantially right angle. The rectangular piece and the second triangular piece are also fixed to each other such that the direction of the second triangular piece is the same as the direction of the first triangular piece. The device also includes a cleat fixed along an edge of one long side of the rectangular piece so that the cleat is in a direction opposite to the direction of the triangular pieces. The device also includes a positioning system for holding the device in position relative to the window. In addition, the device includes an inner platform fixed to the rectangular piece or to at least one of the triangular pieces.
[0006] By their arrangement relative to one another, the rectangular piece and the two triangular pieces obstruct the opening formed by the partially open window, thus ensuring a certain degree of airtightness for the assembly formed by the window, a device according to the invention, and a cat flap. The opening in the rectangular piece accommodates a cat flap of any type. Here is a non-exhaustive list of examples: a rectangular cat flap or a rounded cat flap, a hinged cat flap with or without a lock, and a cat flap with or without a pet flea detector.
[0007] The term "position holding system" means one or more mechanisms holding the window and the device for adapting a cat flap to a window in a position that can be described as closed, shut, or fixed.
[0008] In a general case, the window is located between the interior and exterior of a building. Thanks to the aforementioned locking system, an individual outside the building will not be able to fully open the window and will therefore not be able to enter the building. Similarly, a strong wind will also prevent the window from being opened.
[0009] The device for adapting a cat flap to a window allows a pet owner to install a cat flap on a window without modifying the window. The interior platform allows a pet to stand on it in order to pass through the cat flap and access the outside of the building.
[0010] A casement window generally has two sashes, one of which is equipped with a handle, usually the right-hand sash. This handle allows the window to be closed. The cleat of the present invention, by virtue of its arrangement, fits behind an edge of the right-hand sash, thus allowing the device for adapting a cat flap to a window to be held in position when the right-hand sash of the window is closed using its handle.
[0011] In particular embodiments, the invention may further comprise one or more of the following features, taken individually or in all their variations: technically possible combinations.
[0012] According to one embodiment, the positioning system is one or more orifice(s) in at least one of the triangular-shaped parts intended to accommodate a tab of a locking system, in a locked position, of a window sash.
[0013] In a general case, a casement window has two sashes, one with a handle, usually the right sash. This handle allows the window to be closed. The other sash, usually the left sash, is sometimes equipped with a locking system that keeps the left sash closed when the right sash is open. Each opening in at least one of the triangular pieces designed to receive the tongue of a locking system for the left sash allows, when the locking system is engaged, the left sash of the window to be held in position and thus prevented from opening it fully.
[0014] According to one embodiment, the positioning system consists of one or more suction cups intended to be applied to a glazed surface of a window sash. Each suction cup may be attached directly at one end or via a cable to the rectangular piece or to at least one of the triangular pieces. Another end of each suction cup may be attached to a pane of glass in a window sash by suction, thus holding the device according to the invention in position and also preventing the window from being fully opened.
[0015] According to one embodiment, the device according to the invention also includes an element for adapting the opening to a large cat flap. For certain angles formed by a window sash and the rectangular piece, as well as for certain sizes and models of cat flaps, the opening of the cat flap may be obstructed or blocked by the window sash. In these cases, the element for adapting the opening to a large cat flap allows the opening angle of the cat flap relative to the rectangular piece to be modified in order to prevent the cat flap opening from being blocked by the window sash.
[0016] According to one embodiment, the device according to the invention also includes an external platform attached to the rectangular piece or to at least one of the triangular pieces. A window often has an external ledge that could serve as a support for a pet to pass through the cat flap from outside a building to the inside. In cases where the window does not have such an external ledge, or an equivalent element, the device according to the invention may include an external platform allowing a pet to take hold of it to pass through the cat flap.
[0017] According to one embodiment, the device according to the invention also includes an external ladder, arranged on the ground outside and near the window.
[0018] Some pets, due to their age and / or size, may have difficulty reaching the outer sill of the window or the outer platform of the device according to one embodiment of the invention. The outer ladder placed on the ground outside and near the window allows such pets to more easily reach the cat flap and then enter the building.
[0019] According to one embodiment, the device according to the invention also includes an interior ladder, arranged on the floor inside and near the window.
[0020] Some pets, due to their age or size, may have difficulty reaching the interior platform of the device according to the invention. The interior ladder located on the floor inside and near the window allows such pets to more easily reach the cat flap and then exit the building.
[0021] According to one embodiment, the cleat is fixed along an edge of one long side of the rectangular piece such that the cleat and the rectangular piece form an angle between 75° and 105°. An angle between the cleat and the rectangular piece between 75° and 105° allows, when the cleat is blocked by one window sash, for the other sash to also be blocked. In this case, the other sash is blocked directly by the support of its edge on the rectangular piece. This angle between the cleat and the rectangular piece between 75° and 105° thus contributes further to maintaining the position of the device according to the invention. Presentation of the figures

[0029] Detailed description of particular embodiments of the invention
[0030] The [Fig.1] schematically represents an example of an embodiment of the device 10 for adapting a cat flap 30 to a window 20. In this example of an embodiment, the device according to the invention is shown installed in a window 20 viewed from outside a building.
[0031] The window 20 is equipped with two sashes 21 and 22, with the left sash 22 slightly open. A first triangular piece 13 is positioned in the lower gap left by the slightly open left sash 22. A second triangular piece 12 is positioned in the upper gap left by the slightly open left sash 22. The two triangular pieces are fixed to the edges of each of the short sides 11a and 11b of a rectangular piece 11. Each triangular piece 12 and 13 forms a substantially right angle with the rectangular piece 11. The arrangement of the two triangular pieces 12 and 13 and the rectangular piece 11 advantageously closes the gaps formed by the slightly open sash 22 and thus ensures a certain degree of airtightness of the entire window 20, device 10 according to the invention, and cat flap 30 assembly. The rectangular piece 11 has an opening which, in the embodiment shown in [Fig. 1], accommodates an adapter element 14. This adapter element 14 allows the cat flap 30 to be advantageously oriented outwards so that its opening is not partially blocked by the flap 22. A reinforcing block 15 is also shown in [Fig. 1]. This reinforcing block 15 is optional; however, it makes it easy to increase the rigidity of the device 10 according to the invention by holding the two triangular pieces 12 and 13 in position in addition to the positioning provided by the rectangular piece 11.
[0032] A cleat 19 is also shown in [Fig. 1]. This cleat 19 is fixed along an edge on one long side 1 of the rectangular piece 11. The cleat 19 is fixed in a direction opposite to the triangular pieces 12 and 13 and is advantageously positioned behind the edge of the window sash 21. Thanks to the cleat 19, when the sash 21 is closed, the device 10 according to the invention is held in position in the window.
[0033] Figure 2 schematically represents an example of an embodiment of the device 10 for adapting a cat flap 30 to a window. In this example, the device according to the invention is shown installed in a window viewed from inside a building. The window is equipped with two sashes 21 and 22. The handle 23 of the right sash 21 allows the sash 21 to be closed while locking the cleat 19, not visible in Figure 2, of the device 10 according to the invention.
[0034] Edges of two triangular pieces 12 and 13 are visible on [Fig.2]. The triangular pieces are arranged on either side of a rectangular piece 11. Figure 2 also shows an adapter 14 for an opening in the rectangular piece 11 to a large cat flap 30. The left-hand sash 22 is equipped with two locking systems 24 which, when used without the device according to the invention installed, allow the left-hand sash 22 of the window to be locked in the closed position while keeping the right-hand sash 21 open. Tabs 25 of these locking systems 24 fit into holes 18, not visible in Figure 2, present on the triangular pieces 12 and 13. This is a system for holding the device 10 in position according to one embodiment of the invention. Figure 2 also shows a system for holding the device 10 in position according to another embodiment.Suction cups 17 are fixed on one side to the rectangular piece 11 and on the other to the window sash 22. These suction cups 17 are advantageously fixed so as to prevent the window sash 22 from opening completely and to ensure that the device 10 according to the invention remains in position once installed in a window 20.
[0035] An interior platform 16, fixed to the rectangular part 11, is also shown in [Fig. 2]. This interior platform 16 provides a pet with support, enabling it to pass through the cat flap 30 and thus exit the building. Without this interior platform 16, a pet would be completely unable, or would have great difficulty, passing through the cat flap 30.
[0036] In an embodiment of the device 10 according to the invention, not shown, an external platform similar to the internal platform 16 is attached to the rectangular piece 11 or to at least one of the triangular pieces 12 and 13. This external platform provides support for a pet to pass through the cat flap 30 into the building. It is particularly advantageous when the window does not have an external sill to accommodate the pet before it passes through the cat flap.
[0037] Figures 1 and 2 represent an example of an embodiment of the device according to the invention, [Fig.1] shows it viewed from outside a building and [Fig.2] from inside.
[0038] Figure 3 shows an example of an embodiment of the device according to the invention already shown in Figure 2, but this time without the window 20 being shown. Compared to Figure 2, a batten 19 and a reinforcing batten 15 are visible. Also compared to Figure 2, holes 18 for receiving tabs 25 of the window sash locking system 24 are visible. The angle between the batten 19 and the rectangular piece 11 is between 75° and 115°. In a preferred embodiment, this angle will be approximately 90°. When a sash 21 is closed on the cleat 19, the rectangular piece 11 allows a sash 22 to be held in a partially open position because the edge of the latter will be abutted against the rectangular piece. This angle therefore contributes to holding the device 10 according to the invention in position and to holding the window that houses the device 10 according to the invention in position.
[0039] Figure 4 schematically illustrates an example of an embodiment of a positioning system for the device according to the invention. A portion of a triangular part 13 is shown with an opening 18. This opening 18 accommodates a tab 25 of a locking system 24 fitted to a window sash 22 when the locking system 24 is in a locked position. When the tab 25 is lodged in the opening 18, the triangular part 13 can no longer move laterally relative to the window sash 22. The opening 18 thus contributes to maintaining the position of the triangular part 13 and, through it, of the device 10 according to the invention.
[0040] Figure 5 schematically represents an example of a ladder 40 according to certain embodiments of the invention. This ladder 40 can be climbed or descended by a pet. It can be placed near the window either outside the building, inside the building, or on both sides. In other words, the ladder 40 fits on either side of the window housing the device according to the invention. If a pet has difficulty reaching a platform 16 or a cat flap 30 directly, it can use a ladder 40 to reach them.
