Description

Title of the invention: Product for treating and protecting mineral surfaces with a waterproofing effect Technical field

[0001] The present invention relates to a product for treating and protecting mineral surfaces having a waterproofing effect. State of the art

[0002] Although there are many products for treating or even protecting the surface of mineral materials, particularly in the field of construction and in particular for protecting the surface from the effects of water, many of these only provide a partial solution, i.e. they do not allow all surfaces to be treated (at least with the same performance) or they only protect surfaces against certain causes of soiling or visual or structural degradation.

[0003] Furthermore, the yield of conventional products expressed in m2 per quantity of product is often modest, for example well below 10 m2 / l.

[0004] Finally, too often these products are largely derived from fossil raw materials with the associated environmental and health impacts. Purpose of the invention

[0005] An object of the present invention is therefore to provide a product for treating and protecting mineral surfaces which has good general performance in terms of anti-stain protection, which is suitable for a large number of different mineral surfaces, such as stone, concrete, artificial stone, etc., which allows good application performance and which is preferably predominantly of renewable origin, respectively biosourced. General description of the invention

[0006] In order to solve the above-mentioned problem, the present invention proposes in a first aspect, a composition for treating and protecting mineral surfaces, the composition comprising, relative to its total weight, the following components:

[0007] a) 10 to 30% by weight of a short oil alkyd emulsion without Alkylphenol ethoxylate or ammonia, preferably an alkyd emulsion having a high gloss potential and excellent gloss retention, very good hardness, fast drying time, low yellowing, good stability with anticorrosive pigments, and allowing mixing with styrene acrylics, acrylics and polyurethane dispersions, and advantageously comprising 3(2H)-Isothiazolone, 5-chloro-2-methyl, 2-methyl-3(2H)-isothiazolone as well as l,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one, having a pH between 6.5 and 8.5;

[0008] b) 4 to 6% by weight of one or more organic waterproofing agents providing a non-fluorinated water-repellent treatment based on alkylurethane chemistry, made from a material of plant origin from a renewable source, having a pH between 8 and 10, and comprising ethoxylated C12-16 alcohols, 2-Methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one, as well as 1,2-Benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one;

[0009] c) 0.2 to 0.4% by weight of a biocide, advantageously based on benzisothiazolinone (and in particular 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one), zinc oxide, and zinc pyrithione, in the form of a liquid dispersion, having a pH of 8 with a tolerance of plus or minus 1, and having a relative density at 20°C of between 1.140 -1.250, as well as a kinematic viscosity at 20°C of between 1.35 mm2 / s and 1.45 mm2 / s; and

[0010] d) water, up to 100% by weight of the composition.

[0011] Surprisingly, although the composition can be used on a large number of different mineral surfaces, such as stone, concrete, artificial stone, etc., the inventor was able to demonstrate a much higher effectiveness in terms of anti-stain properties. Unlike most conventional mineral surface treatment and protection compositions having a dry extract generally between 2 and 10% by weight, the compositions according to the invention have a significantly higher dry extract. Indeed, the compositions according to the invention generally have a dry extract greater than 40% by weight, preferably greater than 45% by weight, or even in particular greater than 50% by weight.

[0012] In addition, the aesthetic appearance after treatment of mineral surfaces is generally preserved, or even improved by the rather semi-film-forming properties giving a colorless, matt, or even satin appearance.

[0013] Advantageously, the composition according to the invention comprises 15 to 25% by weight of component a), 5% by weight of component b) and 0.3% by weight of component c).

[0014] An important advantage of the present compositions is that they have a high application yield compared to known mineral surface treatment and protection compositions. The application yield, i.e. the effective yield for a complete application of the composition in two layers, is generally at least 5 m2 / l, preferably at least 10 m2 / l, in particular up to 20 m2 / l, or even more.

[0015] Another notable advantage of the compositions of the present invention is that their components can be largely of renewable origin, the definitions concerning renewable origin being those of standard EN 16575:2014. Indeed, the compositions according to the invention are generally biosourced at more than 35% by weight, preferably more than 40% by weight, in particular more than 45% by weight, or even more than 50% by weight, measured on the dry extract on the basis of a balance of bio-sourced materials and non-bio-sourced materials [mass of bio-sourced materials / (mass of bio-sourced and non-bio-sourced materials) expressed in % by weight]. The determination of the bio-sourced content of the dry extract can be carried out in particular using the method based on the material balance according to standard EN 16785-2:2018.

[0016] Furthermore, after application and drying, the compositions of the invention are considered as a sacrificial anti-graffiti coating which dissolves upon cleaning with the sprayed graffiti.

[0017] Finally, the compositions according to the invention have excellent resistance to abrasion and, above all, excellent resistance to stains even after abrasion.

[0018] A second aspect of the invention relates to a method for treating and protecting mineral surfaces, in which a composition for treating and protecting mineral surfaces according to the invention is applied to a mineral surface to be protected and allowed to dry preferably for at least 15 minutes to 30 minutes, for example for 20 minutes at 20°C. Good effectiveness will generally be achieved within 48 hours and full effectiveness will be obtained after 1 to 2 weeks. The application can be carried out in a manner known per se, but it is generally carried out by roller or brush, preferably by roller.
