Description

Title of the invention: NEAR FIELD COMMUNICATION METHOD IMPLEMENTED WITHIN A VEHICLE TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] One aspect of the invention relates to a near-field communication method implemented within a motor vehicle. The invention finds a particularly interesting application in the field of motor vehicles equipped with a near-field communication device. Such a near-field communication device is also known as an NFC reader (for "Near Field Communication" in English). TECHNOLOGICAL BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] Near-field communication devices, called NFC readers, embedded in a vehicle have various applications. They are, for example, arranged in the doors or in a pillar of the vehicle and participate in unlocking the vehicle. To this end, they communicate with a portable device, such as a badge, a key or a mobile phone, also equipped with near-field communication means, which is carried by the user of the vehicle. These near-field communication devices allow authentication of the portable device, by an exchange of identifiers with it, in order to trigger the unlocking of the vehicle doors.

[0003] A vehicle user often carries several portable devices equipped with near-field communication means. Indeed, he may carry a vehicle key, an access badge to his home and / or his business and one or more payment cards.

[0004] Thus, when the user approaches his vehicle, the vehicle's near-field communication device detects all of the portable devices. When it detects several portable devices equipped with near-field communication means, it communicates with a first portable device in order to obtain a first identifier. It then transmits this identifier to vehicle control means which will in turn request from the communication device an authentication key associated with this identifier. The communication device will then obtain the authentication key from the first portable device and then transmit it to the control means. If the authentication key obtained by the control means does not correspond to the expected one, the near-field communication device repeats this process with each portable device until it obtains a portable device authorized to unlock the vehicle.

[0005] It should be noted that according to this method, the time required to authenticate a portable device equipped with near-field communication means is approximately 250 milliseconds. Thus, if the user of the vehicle has several portable devices equipped with near-field communication means and the portable device authorized to unlock the vehicle doors is interrogated last, the time required to unlock the doors may be significant. For example, when a user has 6 portable devices, the time required to unlock the vehicle doors may be 1.5 seconds. This long period is detrimental to the user. It is indeed possible that the user activates the door handle of his vehicle before it is unlocked. Summary of the invention

[0006] The aim of the invention is to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art by proposing a near-field communication method implemented within a motor vehicle making it possible to reduce the time required to control unlocking of an opening of the vehicle.

[0007] In this context, the invention thus relates, in its broadest acceptance, to a near-field communication method implemented within a motor vehicle, in a near-field communication device, called an NFC reader, connected to control means configured to control a function of the vehicle, the method comprising the steps, executed by the NFC reader, of: • Transmit a presence request, for the detection of at least one portable device comprising near-field communication means of a predetermined type; • Receive, from each present portable device of the predetermined type, a presence message.

[0008] The method is remarkable in that it comprises the following steps, executed by the NFC reader, implemented when several portable devices of the predetermined type are present: • For each of the portable devices of the predetermined type, • Transmit at least one request for the collection of a data pair comprising a device identifier and an application identifier of the portable device, and • Receive the data pair from the portable device; • Store, as it is received, in a memory of the NFC reader, each data pair having an application identifier corresponding to a predetermined authorized application identifier; • When the data pairs from each of the portable devices of the predetermined type present have been received, transmit to the control means all of the data pairs received and stored; • Receive, from the control means, a request for an authentication key associated with a data pair selected by the control means; • Transmit, to the portable device associated with the selected data pair, at least one request for the collection of an authentication key; • Receive the authentication key, and • Transmit the received authentication key to the control means for comparison with at least one authorized authentication key and for controlling the vehicle function when the transmitted authentication key corresponds to an authorized authentication key.

[0009] The type of a portable device relates to characteristics of the signal modulation, of the near-field communication signal emitted and / or received by said portable device. For example, there are types A, B, F, defined in standards, in particular the NFC Forum standard.

[0010] In other words, the NFC reader embedded in the vehicle is able to gather, in a first step, all the data pairs of the portable devices of the predetermined type present and having an application identifier similar to a predetermined authorized application identifier. Then, in a second step, the NFC reader is able to transmit to the control means, all of these stored data pairs. The control means can then select from the received data pairs, a data pair which is capable of allowing, after receiving the associated authentication key, a control, directly or indirectly, of a function of the vehicle. The function of the vehicle can for example consist of unlocking the vehicle doors and / or an authorization to start the vehicle.

[0011] As the NFC reader gathers all the data pairs before transmitting them to the control means, the time required to authorize unlocking of the vehicle doors and / or authorization to start the vehicle is considerably reduced.

[0012] In addition to the characteristics which have just been mentioned in the preceding paragraph, the method according to this aspect of the invention may have one or more complementary characteristics among the following, considered individually or according to all technically possible combinations.

[0013] According to a non-limiting aspect of the invention, the step of transmitting at least one request for the collection of a pair of data is accompanied by the sending of a presence request for the detection of at least one portable device comprising near-field communication means of the predetermined type.

[0014] According to a non-limiting aspect of the invention, if a data pair, received during the step of receiving a data pair from the portable device, comprises an application identifier different from the predetermined authorized application identifier, the method comprises a step of storing information relating to the irrelevance of the portable device associated with the data pair comprising an application identifier different from the predetermined authorized application identifier.

[0015] According to a non-limiting aspect of the invention, the steps of the method are executed for portable devices of a predetermined type corresponding to a first type.

[0016] According to a non-limiting aspect of the invention, if no portable device of the first type transmits the authorized authentication key, the steps of the method are repeated for portable devices of a predetermined type corresponding to a second type distinct from the first type.

[0017] According to a non-limiting aspect of the invention, if no portable device of the second type transmits the authorized authentication key, the steps of the method are repeated for portable devices of a predetermined type corresponding to a third type distinct from the first type and the second type.

[0018] According to a non-limiting aspect of the invention, the portable devices of a first type, a second type and a third type are selected from portable devices comprising near-field communication means of type A, type B and type F.

[0019] The type describes the modulation used by the portable device. They are for example defined by the NFC Forum standard.

[0020] Another aspect of the invention relates to a near-field communication device, called an NFC reader, for a motor vehicle, the NFC reader being configured to communicate with control means configured to control a function of the vehicle, the NFC reader being remarkable in that it comprises a memory configured to store pairs of data received from portable devices comprising near-field communication means, each pair of data comprising a device identifier and an application identifier of the portable device, and in that the NFC reader is configured to execute the steps of the method according to any one of the aforementioned aspects of the invention.

[0021] One aspect of the invention relates to a system for a motor vehicle, comprising a near-field communication device, called an NFC reader, and control means connected to the NFC reader and configured to control a function of the vehicle, the system being remarkable in that the NFC reader comprises a memory configured to store pairs of data received from portable devices comprising near-field communication means, each pair of data comprising a device identifier and an application identifier of the portable device, and in that the NFC reader and the control means are configured to execute the steps of the method according to any one of the aforementioned aspects of the invention.

[0022] One aspect of the invention relates to a method implemented in a system according to the invention: • If the authentication key received by the control means corresponds to the authorized authentication key recorded in the control means, the method comprises a step, executed by the control means, of controlling the function of the vehicle corresponding to an automatic opening of at least one opening; and / or • If the authentication key received by the control means corresponds to the authorized authentication key recorded in the control means, the method comprises a step, executed by the control means, of controlling the vehicle function corresponding to an authorization to start the vehicle.

[0023] Another aspect of the invention relates to a motor vehicle comprising a system according to the invention.

[0024] The invention and its various applications will be better understood upon reading the following description and examining the accompanying figures. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES

[0025] The figures are presented for information purposes only and in no way limit the invention.

[0026] [Fig.l] illustrates, schematically, a vehicle according to a non-limiting aspect of the invention.

[0027] [Fig.2] shows, schematically, the steps of a method according to a non-limiting aspect of the invention. DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0028] Unless otherwise specified, the same element appearing in different figures presents a unique reference.

[0029] [Fig.l] schematically illustrates a motor vehicle 1 conforming to a non-limiting implementation of the invention.

[0030] In this exemplary embodiment, the vehicle 1 comprises a near-field communication system 2.

[0031] The near field communication system 2 comprises a near field communication device 3, called NCF reader 3, arranged in a car- 4th hustle of vehicle 1.

[0032] This bodywork element 4 is formed in this embodiment by a wing of the vehicle 1, but it could be formed by a door 5, a lateral intermediate pillar of the vehicle 6 or even a trunk 7 of the vehicle 1.

[0033] In a different implementation not illustrated, the NFC reader 3 can be arranged in the passenger compartment of the vehicle 1 and can furthermore be associated with a wireless charger that the vehicle 1 includes.

[0034] The NFC reader 3 is configured to communicate with portable devices 8 equipped with near-field communication means carried by a user.

[0035] The NFC reader 3 comprises a memory configured to store pairs of data received from portable devices 8, each pair of data comprising a device identifier and an application identifier of the portable device.

[0036] Here, the near-field communication system 2 also comprises control means 9 configured to communicate with the NFC reader 3. The control means 9 are configured to control a function of the vehicle 1, for example the automatic unlocking of the doors 5 of the vehicle 1 or an authorization to start the vehicle 1.

[0037] The vehicle 1 is constructed and arranged to execute, by means of the near-field communication system 2, the steps of the method according to the invention as illustrated in [Fig.2],

[0038] The steps of the method 100 are executed for portable devices comprising near-field communication means of a predetermined type corresponding to a first type. This first type is formed, in a non-limiting exemplary embodiment, by a type A. Throughout the text, and for reasons of brevity, we sometimes simply speak of a portable device of a predetermined type, for example type A.

[0039] Type refers to the modulation used by the portable device. Type A is for example defined by the NFC Forum standard.

[0040] In this exemplary embodiment illustrated by table T1 of [Fig.2], two portable devices of type A are recorded in the control means 9 as devices authorized to trigger the control of the function and whose presence automatically triggers the control of the function.

[0041] More particularly, a first portable device 7i of type A and a second portable device 72 of type A are entered in the control means 9.

[0042] The first 7i type A portable device: • Is formed by a C card; • Includes Type A near field communication means; • Has a unique identifier (or UID for Unique Identifier in English) 123; • Has a predetermined authorized application identifier (or AID), of vehicle type V in the example; and • Has a CA authentication key.

[0043] The second portable device 72 of type A: • Is formed by a telephone T; • Includes Type A near field communication means, • Has a unique identifier 632; • Has a predetermined authorized application identifier, namely vehicle type V; and • Has a CA authentication key.

[0044] If one of these first or second portable devices 7i 72 of type A is identified using the method according to the invention, then the control means 9 are able to authorize, possibly via a control unit, the control of the opening of at least one of the openings of the vehicle 1 or the starting of the vehicle 1.

[0045] The method 100 comprises a first step, executed by the NFC reader 3, of transmitting 101 a presence request to search for the presence or absence of portable device(s) comprising near-field communication means of a predetermined type, namely type A in the example.

[0046] It should be noted that, in this exemplary embodiment, three portable devices comprising near-field communication means are located close to the NFC reader 3.

[0047] More particularly, as illustrated by table T2, a third portable device 73 of type A, a fourth portable device 74 of a predetermined type corresponding to a second type, type B, and a fifth portable device 75 of type A are in proximity to the NFC reader 3.

[0048] The third portable device 73 of type A: • Is formed by a C card; • Includes Type A near field communication means; • Has a unique identifier 789; • Has a credit card type application identifier CC, this credit card type application identifier CC being different from the predetermined authorized vehicle type application identifier V; and • Has a CA authentication key.

[0049] The fourth portable device 74 of type B: • Is formed by a C card; • Includes type B near field communication means; • Has a unique identifier 456; • Has a public transport TP type application identifier, this public transport TP type application identifier being different from the predetermined authorized vehicle type application identifier V; and • Has a CA authentication key.

[0050] The fifth portable device 75 of type A: • Is formed by a C card; • Includes Type A near field communication means; • Has a unique identifier 741; • Has a badge type B application identifier, this badge type B application identifier being different from the predetermined authorized vehicle type V application identifier; and • Has a CA authentication key.

[0051] The method 100 comprises a second step, executed by the NFC reader 3, of receiving 102, from each portable device present of the predetermined type, namely type A, a presence message. The presence message may consist of a pair of data comprising a unique identifier and an application identifier of the portable device.

[0052] A portable device is considered to be present when it is within communication range of the NFC reader 3, for example at a maximum distance of 40 cm.

[0053] As the third portable device 73 is of type A and the fifth portable device 75 is of type A, the NFC reader 3 receives: • From the third portable device 73, of type A, a data pair comprising a unique identifier 789 and an application identifier of credit card type CC; and • From the fifth portable device 75 of type A, a data pair comprising a unique identifier 741 and an application identifier of badge type B.

[0054] As several pairs of data are received simultaneously by the NFC reader 3, the latter is not able to process the information.

[0055] The method 100 then comprises an additional step, executed by the NFC reader 3, of transmitting 103 at least one request for the collection of a pair of data, each pair of data comprising a device identifier and an application identifier. In the example illustrated, the request is sent first to the third portable device 73 (of type A comprising the unique identifier 789).

[0056] Here, but in a non-limiting manner, this request is accompanied by a request for the presence of a portable device comprising near-field communication means of type A. This makes it possible to check whether the third determined portable device 7 3 is still present or not, but also to detect the arrival of a new device. of type A in proximity to the NFC reader 3. In response to this presence request, the NFC reader 3 receives a presence message from each portable device comprising type A near-field communication means present at that time. In the example illustrated here, there has been no modification of the type A portable devices present, since the first iteration of step 102.

[0057] The method 100 then comprises an additional step, executed by the NFC reader 3, of receiving 104 the data pair from the third portable device 73 of type A. This data pair is formed in the example illustrated by the unique identifier 789 and the credit card type application identifier CC.

[0058] Optionally, as the application identifier of the third portable device 73 of type A is different from the predetermined authorized application identifier of the vehicle type (credit card application CC and not vehicle application V), the method 100 comprises a step, executed by the NFC reader 3, of storing 105 information relating to the irrelevance of the third portable device 73. Thus, when the user presents himself again near the vehicle, for example the next day, equipped with this third portable device 73, this third portable device 73 will not be detected by the NFC reader 3.

[0059] The steps of transmitting 103 at least one request for the collection of a pair of data and of receiving 104 the pair of data from a portable device are repeated for each of the portable devices present of type A.

[0060] Thus, the method 100 comprises the repetition of step 103, in which a request for the collection of a pair of data comprising a device identifier and an application identifier is sent to the fifth portable device 75 (comprising the unique identifier 741).

[0061] Here again, but in a non-limiting manner, the request for the collection of a pair of data is accompanied by a request for the presence of a portable device comprising near-field communication means of type A. This makes it possible to check whether the third determined portable device 75 is still present or not, but also to detect the arrival of a new device of type A in the vicinity of the NFC reader 3.

[0062] In this case, as illustrated by table T3, the fifth portable device 75 is absent at this later time. This situation can occur when the fifth portable device 75 has been moved outside the communication area covered by the NFC reader 3 so that it is no longer accessible to the NFC reader 3.

[0063] In the example illustrated in [Fig.2], two new portable devices 7i and 76 comprising near-field communication means (see table T3, [Fig.2]) are then located close to the NFC reader 3. This corresponds, for example, to the case where a new user approaches the motor vehicle 1.

[0064] The sixth portable device 76: • Is formed by a C card; • Includes Type A near field communication means; • Has a unique identifier 963; • Has a vehicle type application identifier V; and • Has a CA authentication key.

[0065] The first 7i portable device: • Is formed by a C card; • Includes Type A near field communication means; • Has a unique identifier 123; • Has a vehicle type application identifier V; and • Has a CA authentication key.

[0066] In response to the presence request, the NFC reader 3 therefore receives a presence message from each portable device comprising near-field communication means of type A present at this time, here the first and sixth devices 7i and 76. Here again, the presence request is preferably formed by a pair of data comprising a unique identifier and an application identifier of the portable device. The step, executed by the NFC reader 3, of receiving 102, from each portable device present of the predetermined type, namely type A, a presence message is thus reiterated.

[0067] Here again, as several presence messages are transmitted simultaneously to the NFC reader 3, the latter is not able to process the information.

[0068] In the same manner as detailed above, the method 100 then comprises a step, executed by the NFC reader 3, of transmitting 103, to each type A portable device present, a request for the collection of a pair of data comprising a device identifier and an application identifier. In the example illustrated, this request is sent first to the sixth portable device 76 (comprising the unique identifier 963).

[0069] Here again, optionally but advantageously, step 103 also includes sending a request for the presence of a portable device comprising type A near-field communication means. Here, there is no further change in the type A devices present near the NFC reader 3.

[0070] The method 100 then comprises a step, executed by the NFC reader 3, of receiving 104 a pair of data from the sixth portable device 76. This pair of data is formed in the example illustrated by the unique identifier 963 and the vehicle type application identifier V.

[0071] The memory of the NFC reader 3 stores information relating to at least one authorized application identifier, as also stored in the control means 109. Here, the authorized application identifier is of the vehicle type V. The NFC reader 3 is configured to: - extract, from the received data pair, the application identifier; - compare the extracted application ID with the authorized application ID; and - when the extracted application identifier corresponds to the authorized application identifier, store (step 106) the data pair in the memory of the NFC reader 3.

[0072] Here, the authorized application identifier is the vehicle type V. The data pair is therefore stored in the memory of the NFC reader 3. The method 100 then comprises a step, executed by the NFC reader 3, of transmitting 103 to the first portable device 7i a request for the collection of a data pair comprising a device identifier and an application identifier.

[0073] The method 100 then comprises a step, executed by the NFC reader 3, of receiving 104 this pair of data from the first portable device 7b. This pair of data is formed in the example illustrated by the unique identifier 123 and the vehicle type application identifier V.

[0074] The method 100 comprises a new step, executed by the NFC reader 3, of storing 106 the pair of data, in the memory of the NFC reader 3, if the application identifier corresponds to the authorized application identifier (see above).

[0075] When the data pairs of the first and sixth portable devices 7b 76 of type A present have been received, the method 100 comprises a step, executed by the NFC reader 3, of transmitting 107 to the control means 9 all of the stored data pairs, having a vehicle type application identifier corresponding to the authorized application identifier.

[0076] At the level of the control means 9, each pair of data is analyzed, to compare the unique identifier (also called device identifier) with the unique identifier of at least one authorized device. Here, the first device 71 has the unique identifier 123, which corresponds to the unique identifier of an authorized device (see table T1, [Fig.2]). The control means 9 therefore generate a request for an authentication key associated with the device having this unique identifier 123.

[0077] The method 100 then comprises the steps, executed by the NFC reader 3, of receiving 108, from the control means 9, said authentication key request.

[0078] The method 100 then comprises the steps, executed by the NFC reader 3, of • Transmit 109, to the portable device associated with said request, here the first portable device 7i at least one request for the collection of an authentication key; • Receive 110 said authentication key; and • Transmit 111 said authentication key received to said means of control 9 for comparison with at least one authorized authentication key, and for controlling the function of the vehicle 1 when said transmitted authentication key corresponds to an authorized authentication key.

[0079] If the authentication key received by the control means 9 corresponds to the authorized authentication key recorded in the control means 9, the method 100 comprises the steps, executed by the control means 9, of: • Control 112 the vehicle function corresponding to automatic unlocking of at least one opening 4; and / or • Control 113 the vehicle function corresponding to a vehicle start authorization 1.

[0080] If no portable device of the first type, namely type A in our example, returns an authentication key expected by the control means 9, the steps of the method 100 are repeated for portable devices of a predetermined type corresponding to a second type, for example type B.

[0081] Furthermore, if no portable device of the second type, namely type B, returns an authentication key expected by the control means 9, the steps of the method 100 are repeated for portable devices of a predetermined type corresponding to a third type, for example type F.

[0082] The various aspects of the invention mentioned above have numerous advantages. In particular, the invention makes it possible to reduce a latency time between an instant when an authorized portable device is presented near the NFC reader and an instant when the control means recognize this device as authorized. It is thus possible to: • Reduce the time required to automatically unlock at least one opening of the vehicle, and / or to start the vehicle; and • Prevent the user from operating a door handle while it is still locked; • Prevent the user from attempting to start the vehicle when they are not yet authorized to do so.
