Description

Title of the invention: Latch for pallet Technical field to which the invention relates

[0001] The present invention relates to the technical field of pallets and, more particularly, to pallets capable of being topped with a belt. Technological background

[0002] Pallets made from synthetic polymers, more commonly known as plastic, are widely used in many industrial sectors for the storage, handling and transport of goods.

[0003] Synthetic polymer pallets offer many advantages over traditional wooden pallets, including durability, light weight, resistance to moisture and corrosion, and ease of cleaning.

[0004] In order to prevent goods from falling off pallets, it is known to cover pallets with belts, also made of synthetic polymers. A belt consists of one or more walls, running along the sides of the pallet so as to surround the goods present on said pallet.

[0005] In order to facilitate the handling and transport of empty pallets, the belt can be composed of several removable walls, so that they can be stacked on the pallet and thus significantly reduce the volume of the pallet.

[0006] To ensure adequate support of a belt on a pallet, during the transport of goods, the use of locks is known.

[0007] Document EP2783996A1 presents an exemplary embodiment of a pallet lock. The lock illustrated in [Fig.l] below, consists of a latch comprising two bolts 28 and 29, intended to be inserted into passages provided for this purpose in a belt wall. The bolts 28 and 29 are connected by means of branches 38 and 40 to a pedal 24. Two spring blades 26 extend from the rear of the pedal 24, and are configured to hold the bolts 28 and 29 in the wall of a belt, when the latch is in the rest or closed position. Thus, an operator can release the wall of a belt, held by the bolts 28 and 29, by exerting pressure with his foot on the pedal 24. The operator can then use both hands to remove the wall from the belt without having to bend down, as illustrated by [Fig.7] of document EP2783996A1.

[0008] Nevertheless, as illustrated by [Fig.2] below, the latch 18 proposed by the document EP2783996A1 requires the creation of a dedicated space during the manufacture of the pallet, to accommodate said latch and allow its use. Therefore, the latch proposed by this document is not suitable for pallets not including this dedicated space.

[0009] The present invention aims to provide an alternative solution for a pallet latch, intended to allow at least part of a belt to be held on the pallet, which can be integrated into a wider variety of pallets, in particular into pallets which do not include a housing intended to accommodate a latch. Subject of the invention

[0010] For this, the invention proposes a pallet latch comprising a U-shaped spring blade.

[0011] The invention is remarkable in that a first branch of the spring blade is crossed by a passage, so as to allow a foot control, secured to a second branch of the spring blade, to pass through the first branch, and in that the foot control projects sufficiently from the first branch to allow an operator to reversibly move a bolt extending from one end of the second branch, in the direction of the first branch.

[0012] Advantageously, the latch proposed by the invention is of simpler design and less bulky, compared to the lock of the state of the art described above. As a result, the latch according to the invention is more easily integrated into a greater variety of pallets, in particular in pallets not originally having a space dedicated to a latch.

[0013] By way of non-limiting example, the latch may be integrated or inserted into a first hollow foot of a pallet or into a hollow edge of said pallet.

[0014] The invention thus proposes a latch making it possible to hold a belt to a pallet, reversibly, without it being necessary for the pallet to include a specific housing to accommodate the latch.

[0015] In other words, the latch presented above can be integrated into a greater number of pallets compared to the latch of the prior art described above.

[0016] According to another embodiment of the invention, the second branch of the latch is longer than the first branch, so that the bolt extends beyond the end of the first branch. This embodiment allows both greater movement of the bolt present at the end of said branch, as well as freer positioning of the latch in a pallet.

[0017] According to another embodiment of the invention, when the spring blade is at rest, the bolt extends above the end of the first branch. This embodiment allows better support of the wall of a belt, when the bolt passes through a passage provided through said wall.

[0018] According to another embodiment of the invention, the bolt comprises a guide face, configured to allow a separation of the branches when a wall bears against said guide face. Preferably, the guide face is concave in shape or forms an acute angle with the second branch.

[0019] Preferably, when the spring blade is at rest, the first branch is parallel or substantially parallel to the second branch.

[0020] According to another embodiment of the invention, when the spring blade is under tension, the first branch forms with the second branch an angle whose value is between 10° and 40°, preferably between 15° and 30° or of the order of 20°.

[0021] According to another embodiment of the invention, the first branch comprises at least one groove, present on a large outer face of the spring blade. Advantageously, the presence of one or more grooves on the outer face of the first branch of the spring blade, allows more precise holding of the latch against a wall of a pallet and also prevents unwanted pivoting of the latch during its use.

[0022] According to another embodiment of the invention, the groove extends parallel or substantially parallel to the second branch. Preferably, at least one groove opens at the junction zone connecting the branches of the spring blade, so that it can be used as a guide rail, when positioning the latch against a wall provided with one or more lugs of a shape complementary to said groove.

[0023] According to another embodiment, the first branch comprises at least one appendage, of a shape complementary to a cavity present on an internal face of a wall of a pallet, so as to prevent pivoting of the latch when it is mounted or integrated into said pallet.

[0024] According to another embodiment of the invention, the sides of the branches of the latch comprise notches, so as to allow easier maintenance of at least one elastic connection means between said branches. Advantageously, the elastic connection means connecting the branches, make it possible to significantly and controlledly increase the stiffness of the spring blade, depending on its use and / or the operator.

[0025] By way of non-limiting example, the elastic connecting means may be a band or an elastic ribbon, of dimensions adapted to fit easily into the notches present on the sides of the branches of the latch.

[0026] According to another embodiment of the invention, the foot control is an appendage of cylindrical or substantially cylindrical shape, extending from the second branch. Advantageously, the free end of the appendage is of sufficient dimensions to allow an operator to move the bolt of the latch using his foot. Preferably, the appendage extends perpendicularly or substantially perpendicularly to the second branch. The diameter of the appendage, at its free end, is between 0.5 cm and 6 cm, preferably between 1 cm and 3 cm.

[0027] Of course, the various features, variants and embodiments mentioned above can be combined with each other, according to various com combinations, to the extent that they are not incompatible or mutually exclusive.

[0028] The invention also relates to a kit for mounting a latch on a pallet, comprising a latch as described above and a clamping plate comprising at least one appendage extending from said plate, the appendage being able to be inserted through the passage of the first branch of the latch, so as to attach the clamping plate to the latch.

[0029] According to another embodiment of the invention, at least one appendage of the clamping plate comprises at least one bolt capable of bearing against an internal face of the spring blade, preferably against the first branch of the latch.

[0030] Advantageously, the mounting kit described above makes it possible to firmly hold a latch to the wall of a pallet, without it being necessary to resort to complex means, such as riveting or welding techniques.

[0031] Preferably, the latch and the clamping plate are made of a material identical or similar to the pallet, so as to allow the pallet to be recycled without first having to remove the latch and the clamping plate.

[0032] Preferably, the latch and / or the clamping plate are made from one of the following materials: polyethylene, polyoxymethylene, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene or the like.

[0033] The invention also relates to a method of installing a latch according to the invention, using a mounting kit as described above, on a pallet comprising a hollow space, delimited by a wall delimiting one side of the pallet, preferably the wall delimits a first hollow foot of the pallet, the hollow space is preferably open on the top of the pallet, in order to facilitate the insertion of the latch into the hollow space.

[0034] The method is remarkable in that it implements the following steps:

[0035] - making a hole through the wall, of sufficient dimensions to allow the passage of the command at the foot of the latch; then

[0036] - insertion of the latch into the hollow space, so that the end of the foot control is inserted into the passage, and is flush with or protrudes from the wall, and the second branch of the latch is oriented towards the top of the pallet; then

[0037] - insertion of at least one appendage of the clamping plate into the hole, so that that at least one appendage can bear against a large internal face of the spring blade, preferably against the first branch of the latch, in order to hold the latch against said wall.

[0038] The invention also relates to a pallet for transporting goods, comprising at least one latch as described above.

[0039] Preferably, the latch is present at a first edge of the pallet, possibly actually inside a hollow foot of the pallet.

[0040] According to an alternative embodiment, the pallet is connected to a belt by at least one holding means. This holding means comprises a strap passing through a partition of the belt. The ends of the strap are held to the pallet so as to allow the said partition to tilt on top of the pallet.

[0041] Preferably, the holding means is arranged at an edge of the pallet which is opposite an edge of the pallet where the latch is present. This alternative embodiment advantageously allows an operator to easily and quickly fold the belt over the top of the pallet, by carrying out this operation from one side of the pallet, in this case from the first edge of the pallet. In other words, this manipulation is carried out without it being necessary for the operator to go around the pallet, in order to detach each partition of the belt from the pallet. This is particularly advantageous when only one side of the pallet is accessible to the operator. This may be the case when the pallet is placed against a wall and between two other pallets. [0054] As a reminder, the invention proposes an alternative solution for a pallet latch, intended to allow at least part of a belt to be held on the pallet, which can be integrated into a wider variety of pallets, in particular into pallets which do not include a housing intended to accommodate a latch.

[0055] Figures 3 and 4 illustrate a non-limiting exemplary embodiment of a latch according to the invention. According to the present example, the latch 102 is composed of a spring blade 104, in the shape of a “U”. The spring blade is in the rest position in Figures 3 and 4, corresponding to the closing of the latch.

[0056] The spring blade consists of a first branch 100 which is flat or substantially flat, facing a second branch 108 which is also flat or substantially flat. The branches are connected by an intermediate portion 110, which is rounded or substantially rounded in shape.

[0057] The intermediate portion 110 is configured to keep the branches at a distance, preferably parallel or substantially parallel to each other, when the spring blade 104 is at rest.

[0058] The smallest distance between the branches is between 0 cm and 6 cm, preferably between 1 cm and 3 cm. The branches have an identical or substantially identical width, between 2 cm and 10 cm, preferably between 3 cm and 5 cm. The thickness of the branches is between 0 cm and 5 cm, preferably between 0 cm and 1 cm.

[0059] The length of the first branch 108, measured between its free end 112 and the intermediate portion 110, is between 5 cm and 15 cm, preferably between 6 cm and 10 cm. The length of the second branch 108, measured between its free end 114 and the intermediate portion 110, is between 5 cm and 20 cm, preferably between 8 cm and 12 cm.

[0060] It should be noted that according to the present example, the second branch 108 is longer than the first branch 108, so that a bolt 116 present at the free end 114 of the second branch, extends above the free end 112 of the first branch, when the spring blade is at rest or the latch 102 is closed.

[0061] The bolt 116 extends from an internal face 118 of the spring blade, according to a direction normal or substantially normal to said face. An upper face 120 of the bolt, opposite the intermediate portion 110, comprises a contact face 122 inclined or substantially inclined, in the direction of the first branch 106, so as to promote a separation of the spring blade 104 when a wall bears against said contact face and exerts a force parallel or substantially parallel to the second branch. In other words, the contact face 122 is intended to allow a separation of the branches, when a wall of a belt bears against said contact face.

[0062] The second branch 108 also supports an appendage 124 extending perpendicularly or substantially perpendicularly from the inner face 118 of the spring blade. The appendage 124 is centered or substantially centered on the second branch.

[0063] According to the present example, the appendage is of cylindrical or substantially cylindrical shape, and its length measured from the internal face 118 of the spring blade, is between 1 cm and 15 cm, preferably between 2 cm and 8 cm. The diameter of the appendage 124 is of appropriate dimension, in order to give the appendage 124 sufficient mechanical strength to serve as a control for the foot 126.

[0064] As illustrated by [Fig.8], the operator can then separate the branches of the latch 102, by exerting with his foot at the end of the appendage 124, a force sufficient to separate the bolt 116 from the first branch and thus open the latch 102 to allow the release of a wall previously held by said bolt.

[0065] In other words, the appendage 124 is intended to serve as a foot control for operating the latch.

[0066] It should be noted that the shape of the foot control 126 is not limited to this single embodiment, so that the appendage could have any other elongated shape.

[0067] As illustrated by [Fig. 3], a passage 128 connects the large faces of the first branch, so as to allow the free end 130 of the appendage 124 to exceed the outer face 132 of the spring blade, and thus allow an operator to separate the branches.

[0068] According to the present example, at the level of the large faces of the spring blade, the contour 134 of the passage is oblong in shape. The largest dimension of the contour 134 is parallel or substantially parallel to the elongate direction of the first branch, so as to allow free movement of the appendage 124 through the first branch 106, when said appendage is actuated by an operator. The largest dimension of the contour 134 is between 1 cm and 10 cm, preferably between 2 cm and 6 cm;

[0069] According to the present example, the passage 128 opens into a groove 136 formed in the outer face 132 of the spring blade. More precisely, the groove 136 extends from the passage 128 to the intermediate portion 110 as well as partly on said intermediate portion. The depth of the groove 136 is between 0.2 cm and 1 cm, preferably between 0.3 cm and 0.8 cm. Advantageously, the groove 136 is intended to serve as a guide rail, when positioning the latch in a pallet, and to prevent rotation of the latch when it is held against a wall as explained below.

[0070] According to the present example, the sides 138 of the branches connecting their largest faces, comprise notches 140 aligned or substantially aligned in the same plane, when the latch is at rest, so as to allow easier maintenance of at least one elastic connecting means between said branches. The elastic means are not shown in the figures.

[0071] Advantageously, the elastic connecting means or means connecting the branches make it possible to increase the stiffness of the spring blade 104, depending on its use and / or the strength of the operator. By way of non-limiting example, the elastic connecting means may be a band or an elastic ribbon, of dimensions adapted to be easily inserted into the notches 140 present on the sides 138 of the branches of the latch.

[0072] Preferably, the latch forms a single piece obtained by a molding process. By way of non-limiting examples, the latch may be manufactured from metallic materials or synthetic polymers such as polyethylene, polyoxymethylene, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene or the like.

[0073] In order to allow easy and solid fixing of the latch 102 on a pallet, the invention proposes the use of a clamping plate 142 as illustrated in Figures 5 and 6. The clamping plate 142 comprises a plate 144 of rectangular or substantially rectangular shape. The plate is delimited by two large faces 146, parallel or substantially parallel to each other. A passage 148 connects the large faces of the plate. The passage 148 is of identical or similar dimensions to the passage 128 passing through the first branch 106 of the latch, so as to allow free movement of the appendage through the plate 144, when the latch is activated by an operator.

[0074] The clamping plate 142 comprises an application face 150, intended to be in contact with a wall delimiting an edge or a first foot of a pallet. The application face 150 comprises several appendages 152 extending perpendicularly or substantially perpendicularly from said application face. The appendages 152 are aligned or substantially aligned along the contour of the passage 148, so as to allow their insertion through the passage 128 formed through the first branch 106 of the spring blade.

[0075] Each appendage 152 comprises at its free end, a bolt 154 capable of bearing against the internal face 118 of the spring blade 104, when said ap pendentives are inserted into the passage 128 provided through the first branch 106 of the spring blade.

[0076] Of course, the length of the appendages 152 is adapted according to the thickness of the wall of the pallet which is intended to support the latch 102. By way of non-limiting example, the length of the appendages 152 is between 0.2 cm and 5 cm, preferably between 1 cm and 3 cm.

[0077] The invention also relates to a method of installing a latch 102 as described above, using a mounting kit, comprising said latch as well as the clamping plate 142 presented previously.

[0078] According to a first step of the installation method, a hole 156 visible in Figures 7 and 8, is made through a first wall 158 delimiting a first edge 159 of the pallet. More precisely, the hole 156 is located at the level of a first foot 160 of the pallet, so as to open into a first housing 161 delimited by said foot.

[0079] Preferably, the first housing 161 is open on the top 164 of the pallet. The first housing is of sufficient dimensions to allow the insertion of the latch 102. If necessary, an opening may be provided through the top of the pallet in order to enlarge or create this first housing 161.

[0080] According to a second step, the latch 102 is inserted into the first housing 161, so that the free end 130 of the appendage 124 passes through the hole 156. More precisely, the appendage 124 is inserted into the hole 156 until its free end 130 protrudes from the wall 158 delimiting a first edge 159 of the pallet. The latch 102 is oriented in the first housing 161 so that the bolt 116 of the second branch 108 is as close as possible to the top 164 of the pallet.

[0081] According to a third step, the clamping plate 142 is positioned opposite the hole 156, and the appendages 152 of the clamping plate are introduced into the hole 156, until the bolts 154 of the appendages 152 bear against the internal face 118 of the spring blade 104.

[0082] Thus, advantageously, the clamping plate 142 firmly holds the latch 102 in the first foot 160 of the pallet, as illustrated in FIGS. 7 and 8.

[0083] Preferably, the outer face 132 of the first branch comprises a groove, intended to cooperate with at least one appendage present in the first housing, in order to facilitate the insertion and positioning of the latch in the first housing 161. The presence of one or more appendages in the first foot 160 can also prevent pivoting of said latch during its use. According to a preferred embodiment, the passage 148 of the clamping plate is of elongated shape, as illustrated in [Fig. 5], in order also to prevent pivoting of the latch 102 in the first foot 160.

[0084] At the end of the installation process described above, the pallet 162 is easily and quickly quickly equipped with a latch 102, securely attached at a first edge 159 of the pallet. Advantageously, the latch is placed in a housing of a pallet, not originally intended for this purpose. In other words, the latch can be mounted on pallets which until now did not allow effective and easy maintenance of a belt to the pallet.

[0085] As illustrated by [Fig.7], the presence of the latch 102 in the first foot 160 advantageously makes it possible to retain a first partition 166 of a belt 167 when said partition comprises at least one passage 168. The passage 168 is visible in [Fig.8]. The passage 168 is intended to be occupied by the bolt 116 of the second branch 108, when the latch is in the rest position or in the closed position, illustrated by [Fig.7].

[0086] An operator can then easily release the first partition 166 from the belt, as illustrated in [Fig. 8], by exerting adequate force with his foot at the end 130 of the appendage 124, so as to separate said branches. When the branches are separated, as illustrated in [Fig. 8], the bolt 116 of the latch is removed from the first partition 166. The latch 102 is then in the working or opening position, the first partition 166 can be lifted in order to separate it from the pallet 162.

[0087] According to another advantage, the presence of the latch inside a foot of the pallet makes it possible to protect the latch from external shocks.

[0088] According to an alternative embodiment illustrated by figures 9 to 11, the pallet 162 described above comprises another means 170 for holding the belt 167. This other means 170 for holding is present at a second edge 172 of the pallet. Preferably, the second edge is opposite the first edge 159 of said pallet. More precisely, this holding means is composed of two passages 174 made in a second foot 176 of the pallet. This second foot is hollow like the first foot 160, so as to delimit a second housing 178. The passages 174 are aligned or substantially aligned along the direction of elongation of the second foot 176, and the passages pass through a wall of the second foot which is oriented towards the outside of said pallet.

[0089] The holding means 170 also comprises a strap 180, largely present in the second housing 178. The strap passes through the passages 174 so that the ends 184 of the strap are present outside the second foot 176. The ends of the strap are held outside the pallet by suitable means. By way of non-limiting example, the ends of the strap may have an excess thickness.

[0090] Advantageously, between its two ends 184, the strap is linked to a second partition 186 of the belt 167 mentioned above. The second partition 168 is opposite the first partition 166 of the belt. To do this, according to the present example, the second partition is crossed by a passage 188 in which the strap 180 passes.

[0091] As illustrated by [Fig.9], the belt 167 is then held to the pallet 162 at another edge. The holding means 170 therefore allows better holding of the belt to the pallet, by holding the belt at two opposite edges of the pallet when the latch 102 is in the closed position.

[0092] According to another advantage, the holding means 170 is flexible so that it allows an operator, as illustrated by FIGS. 10 and 11, to tilt the second partition 186 onto the top 164 of the pallet, while keeping the second partition attached to the pallet.

[0093] As illustrated by [Fig. 11], this embodiment advantageously makes it possible to tie the belt 167 to the pallet, when the belt is folded onto the pallet, in order to prevent said belt from being lost when handling the empty pallet.

[0094] Of course, the belt 167 is configured to fold easily over the top of the pallet. For this, the belt 167 may include fold lines at the junction zones between the partitions, as well as at the intermediate partitions connecting the first and second partitions. Preferably, when the belt is folded, the second partition overlaps the first partition and the intermediate partitions are present between the first and second partitions.

[0095] According to a preferred embodiment, the second foot 176 is located in the middle or substantially in the middle of the second edge 172 of the pallet, in order to allow easier and more precise superposition of the belt on the top of the pallet.

[0096] Optionally, the pallet may comprise several holding means 170, present at the same edge of the pallet. Preferably, each holding means is present at a foot of the pallet.

[0097] It should be noted that a pallet 162 as described above may comprise one or more holding means 170, without a latch 102 necessarily being present on the pallet. In other words, the invention may also relate to a belt connected to a pallet, by a holding means as described above.

[0098] However, it should be emphasized that a pallet equipped with a latch 102 and a holding means 170 as described above, advantageously allows an operator to easily and quickly fold a belt of a pallet, by carrying out these operations from only one side of the pallet, in the present case from the first edge 159 of the pallet.

[0099] Indeed, the holding means 170 allows both easy detachment of the belt 167 at the level of the second edge 172, while allowing the second partition 186 to be held close to the second edge 172 of the pallet. Thus, the operator can easily and without the help of another operator, use the holding means 170 to precisely superimpose the folded belt on the top 164 of the pallet.

[0100] In other words, these manipulations are carried out without it being necessary for the operator to go around the pallet, in order to detach each partition from the belt of the pallet, then fold the belt before going around the pallet again to ensure the correct alignment of the folded belt, when it is lying on top of the pallet. This is particularly advantageous when only one side of the pallet is accessible to the operator. This is for example the case when the pallet is placed against a wall, between two other pallets.

3. Latch (102) according to claim 2, characterized in that when the spring blade (104) is at rest, the bolt (116) extends above the free end (112) of the first branch (106).

4. Latch (102) according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that when the spring blade (104) is at rest, the first branch (106) is parallel or substantially parallel to the second branch (108).

5. Latch (102) according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that when the spring blade (104) is under tension, the first branch (106) forms with the second branch (108), an angle whose value is between 10° and 40°.

6. Kit for mounting a latch (102) on a pallet, characterized in that it comprises a latch (102) according to one of claims 1 to 5 and a clamping plate (142) comprising at least one appendage (152) extending from said plate, and capable of being inserted through the passage (128) of the first branch (106) of the latch (102), so as to attach the clamping plate (142) to the latch (102).

7. Mounting kit according to claim 6, characterized in that at least one appendage (152) comprises at least one bolt (154) capable of bearing against an internal face (118) of the spring blade.

8. A method of installing a latch (102), using a mounting kit according to claim 6 or 7, on a pallet (162) comprising a hollow space delimited by a wall (158) forming one side of said pallet, characterized in that the following steps are implemented: - making a hole (156) through the wall (158), of sufficient size to allow the passage of the foot control (126); then - inserting the latch (102) into the hollow space so that the end of the foot control (126) is inserted into the hole and is flush with or protrudes beyond the wall (158), and in that the second branch (108) of the latch (102) is oriented towards the top (164) of the pallet; then - insertion of at least one appendage (152) of the clamping plate (142) into the hole (156), so that at least one appendage (152) can bear against an internal face (118) of the spring blade, in order to hold the latch (102) against said wall.

9. Pallet for transporting goods characterized in that the pallet (162) comprises at least one latch (102) according to one of claims 1 to 5.

10. Pallet according to claim 9, characterized in that the pallet (162) is connected to a belt (167), by at least one holding means (170) which comprises a strap (180), passing through a partition (186) of the belt (167), the ends (184) of the strap of which are held to the pallet, so as to allow the tilting of said partition (186) on the top (164) of the pallet.
