Description

Title of the invention: Access device for a motor vehicle with opposing doors.

[0001] The invention relates to an access device for a motor vehicle with opposing doors. The invention also relates to a vehicle having opposing doors equipped with such an access device.

[0002] Motor vehicles are often equipped with access devices comprising several doors on the same side of the vehicle body. Each door is pivotally mounted around a vertical axis. Generally, adjacent doors on the same side of a vehicle body open in the same direction of rotation relative to the vehicle. These adjacent doors are generally each mounted on an associated pillar.

[0003] There are also motor vehicles with access devices for which two adjacent doors on the same side of the body open in opposite directions of rotation. A single opening in the body of the vehicle can then be provided, without a central pillar between the two doors. The axis of rotation of a first door extends along a front edge of the opening while the axis of rotation of the rear door extends along a rear edge of the opening. This type of arrangement, commonly called "antagonistic doors" is generally used for trucks, utility vehicles, or sports vehicles having more than one row of seats.

[0004] In this particular arrangement, the opening in the body does not include a central pillar between a front row of seats and a rear row of seats. In order to provide lateral support to the vehicle while providing sufficient sealing, the front and rear doors generally fit together when in the closed position and thus together provide structural support.

[0005] However, doors arranged in this way are generally designed so that the user must open the door located at the front before being able to open or close the rear door. This complicates the exit of a rear passenger who must wait for someone to come and open the front door. In some cases, the rear passenger can fold the seat at the front to access the unlocking system for unlocking the front door himself, but this system requires him to carry out several manipulations beforehand to be able to clear access to the unlocking system.

[0006] There are also motor vehicles with opposing doors equipped with a system which allows said doors to be opened independently of each other. Publication CA2555740A1 discloses independently opening doors for such a type of motor vehicle. However, the doors known in the state of the art have disadvantages. In particular, sealing at the opening is not necessarily guaranteed, which can prove problematic.

[0007] The object of the invention is to provide an access device for a vehicle with opposing doors which allows easier exit for a rear passenger while ensuring sealing at the opening when the opposing doors are in the closed position. Another object of the invention is to provide a reliable access device which makes it possible to guarantee repeatability of the openings and closings of the doors over the long term.

[0008] To this end, the invention relates to an access device for a motor vehicle comprising a first door and a second door, the first door and the second door being configured in an antagonistic manner to close the same opening, the access device being characterized in that it comprises a flap attached, in particular in rotation, to one of the doors in a central region of the opening, the flap being movable between a closed position making it possible to close said opening when the first door and the second door are both in the closed position; and an avoidance position relative to the other of the doors.

[0009] In one embodiment, the access device comprises a return means arranged between the shutter and the door to which the shutter is attached, the return means being configured to exert a return force on the shutter so as to move the shutter from its closed position to its avoidance position in order to avoid contact of the shutter with the other door when opening and / or closing the doors of the access device.

[0010] According to one embodiment, each door comprises at least one seal and the flap is configured to exert pressure on said seals when the first door and the second door are both in the closed position.

[0011] According to one embodiment, at least a portion of the periphery of the opening comprises at least one seal and the flap is configured to exert pressure on said at least one seal when the first door and the second door are both in the closed position.

[0012] According to one embodiment, the shutter attached to one of the first or second doors has a curved profile so as to follow the shape of one end of the other of the first or second doors against which the shutter rests in the closed position.

[0013] According to one embodiment, the shutter has a curved profile so as to follow the shape of a rear end of the first door.

[0014] According to another embodiment, the shutter has a curved profile so as to follow the shape of one front end of the second door.

[0015] According to one embodiment, the shutter comprises at least one movement member, such as a wheel, and the movement member is configured to assist the movement of the shutter from its closed position to its avoidance position or vice versa along a determined trajectory during the opening and / or closing of the door to which the shutter is attached.

[0016] According to one embodiment, the shutter comprises two movement members arranged on edges of the shutter and more particularly arranged in corners of the shutter.

[0017] According to one embodiment, the access device comprises at least one guide device configured to cooperate with at least one shutter movement member to guide the movement of the shutter from its closed position to its avoidance position or vice versa according to the determined trajectory.

[0018] According to one embodiment, the guide device is a guide rail comprising a notch at one of its ends, said notch being configured to receive at least one movement member when the second door is in the closed position.

[0019] According to one embodiment, the guide device is a guide rail comprising an inclined portion configured to cooperate with the at least one member for moving the shutter in order to position the shutter in its avoidance position relative to the door to which the shutter is attached in order to avoid contact with the other door when opening and / or closing the doors of the access device.

[0020] According to one embodiment, the access device comprises a stop configured to stop the movement of the shutter in its avoidance position when the door to which the shutter is attached is opened.

[0021] The invention also relates to a vehicle equipped with an access device as described above.

[0022] These objects, characteristics and advantages of the present invention will be explained in detail in the following description of a particular embodiment made without limitation in relation to the attached figures among which:

[0037] [Fig. 15] is a detail view of a stop.

[0038] Figures 1 to 4 illustrate a motor vehicle 20 according to one embodiment of the invention. Any type of motor vehicle can be envisaged within the scope of the present invention. A trihedron with three axes X, Y, Z is illustrated in this [Fig.l].

[0039] In this document, the X axis designates the longitudinal axis of the motor vehicle 20. When moving forward and in a straight line, the vehicle moves from the rear to the front, in a direction parallel to its longitudinal axis. The X axis is oriented from the front to the rear of the vehicle, that is to say in the direction of reverse travel. The Y axis designates the transverse axis of the vehicle. The Z axis designates the axis perpendicular to the X axis and the Y axis. The vehicle is considered to be resting on horizontal ground. The Z axis is a vertical axis, oriented from bottom to top. The X, Y and Z axes form an orthogonal reference frame.

[0040] The motor vehicle 20 has an access device 21 comprising a pair of doors 24, 26 arranged on a lateral side of the body 22 of the motor vehicle 20. The pair of doors comprises a first door 24 located at the front of the motor vehicle 20 and a second door 26 located at the rear of the motor vehicle 20. The two doors 24, 26 extend parallel to the longitudinal axis X of the vehicle 20 when they are in the closed position.

[0041] However, it is understood that the features of the first front door 24 described herein may be incorporated into a rear door and that the features of the second rear door 26 described herein may be incorporated into a front door.

[0042] Furthermore, features of either of the doors 24, 26 may be incorporated into any door, regardless of their forward, rearward, or lateral spatial relationship to the motor vehicle 20. For example, such Access device 21 may be installed at the rear of a vehicle, such as a sports utility vehicle, a goods transport vehicle or the like. The two doors 24, 26 could thus extend perpendicular to the longitudinal axis X of the vehicle and parallel to the transverse axis Y when in the closed position.

[0043] The body 22 comprises a door opening 28 (visible in FIGS. 2 to 4), which is closed in a central region of the opening 28 by the first door 24 and the second door 26, as illustrated in [Fig. 1]. The first door 24 and the second door 26 are therefore configured in an antagonistic manner to close this same opening 28. To facilitate entry and exit of the occupants of the vehicle 20, the door opening 28 does not have a pillar, that is to say there is no central pillar dividing a front row of seats and a rear row of seats of the passenger compartment.

[0044] A configuration of the motor vehicle 20 in which the two doors 24 and 26 are both open so as to clear the opening 28 as much as possible is illustrated in [Fig. 4]. This configuration makes it possible to illustrate the advantage of the absence of a central pillar: there are fewer obstacles in the opening 28 which is then widened to allow passengers to get in and out of the passenger compartment, which facilitates entry and exit from the vehicle 20.

[0045] The first door 24 and the second door 26 of the access device 21 are each pivotally connected to the body 22 of the motor vehicle 20. More specifically, the first door 24 is fixed to the vehicle by hinges near a front area of the perimeter of the opening 28. The first door 24 is hinged to the body 22 of the vehicle about a substantially vertical axis 34, so that the first door 24 can be opened in a first opening direction, from the closed position illustrated in [Fig. 1] to the half-open position illustrated in [Fig. 2] to the open position illustrated in [Fig. 4].

[0046] The first door 24 may comprise an exterior door handle 36 and an interior door handle for actuating in this case a possible locking device which disengages the rear end 38 of the first door 24 from the body 22.

[0047] The second door 26 pivots about a substantially vertical axis 48 to be opened in a second opening direction opposite to the first opening direction of the first door 24 in order to reach an open position, such as that illustrated in [Fig. 3]. The second door 26 has a front end 46 located opposite a rear end 38 of the first door 24 when the two doors are in the closed position.

[0048] The access device 21 also comprises a flap 25 (illustrated in more detail in [Fig. 5]) attached to one of the two doors 24 or 26 in a central region of the opening 28. In the embodiment illustrated in Figures 2, 3, 4 and 7, the flap 25 is attached to the second door 26 located at the rear of the motor vehicle 20. Alternatively, according to an embodiment not illustrated, the flap 25 can be attached to the first door 24 located at the front of the motor vehicle 20.

[0049] Generally, the flap 25 may have a rectangular shape. However, other shapes may be envisaged, such as a trapezoidal shape or a triangular shape. The flap 25 may be made of plastic material or metallic material.

[0050] The flap 25 is movable between a closed position allowing the opening 28 to be closed when the first door 24 and the second door 26 are both in the closed position; and an avoidance position relative to the door 26 to which the movable flap 25 is attached. Thus, when the two doors 24 and 26 are closed, the flap 25 participates in closing the opening 28. In its closed position, the flap 25 extends generally in a plane parallel to the planes of the doors 24 and 26 in the closed position. The flap 25 can thus participate in lateral support for the vehicle. In this embodiment, it should be noted that unlike the known arrangements of the state of the art, the first door 24 and the second door 26 do not fit into each other when they are in the closed position.

[0051] The flap 25 is connected to the second door 26 by means of a pivot connection formed in particular by at least one hinge 23. Thanks to this at least one hinge 23, the flap 25 can pivot around an axis of rotation 39 so as to be able to adopt an avoidance position relative to the plane of the door 26 to which the flap 25 is attached.

[0052] According to a particular embodiment illustrated in [Fig. 5], the flap 25 may comprise two hinges 23 which project towards a lateral side of the flap 25 so as to offset the axis of rotation 39 relative to the body of the flap 25.

[0053] The flap 25 is moved from its closed position to its avoidance position when the second door 26 to which the flap 25 is attached is moved from its closed position to its open position. This allows the flap 25 to be moved away from the first door 24 when opening the second door 26 in order to avoid contact of the flap 25 with the other door 24 when opening and / or closing the doors 24 and 26.

[0054] When the doors 24 and 26 are in the closed position, the flap 25 can also provide a sealing function at the opening 28. To do this, the doors 24, 26 each comprise at least one sealing gasket 29a.

[0055] Such a seal 29a is notably illustrated in [Fig.7] which schematically represents the second door 26 to which the flap 25 is connected. The seal 29a extends vertically along the front end 46 of the second door 26. A such seal 29a is also illustrated in [Fig.8] which schematically represents the first door 24 intended to be located at the front of the motor vehicle 20. The seal 29a extends vertically along the rear end 38 of the first door 24.

[0056] The doors 24, 26 are therefore constructed so as to accommodate vertical seals 29a arranged opposite each other, as illustrated in [Fig. 9]. In this preferred embodiment, the flap 25 is configured to exert pressure on said seals 29a when the first door 24 and the second door 26 are both in the closed position.

[0057] More specifically, the long edges of a rectangular-shaped flap 25 are configured to exert pressure on the vertical seals 29a which border the rear end 38 of the first door 24 on the one hand and the front end 46 of the second door 26 on the other hand, as illustrated in [Fig. 9]. In this way, the edges of the flap 25 make it possible to compress the vertical seals 29a of the front 24 and rear 26 doors, thus ensuring the sealing of the opening 28 when said doors 24, 26 are in the closed position.

[0058] Furthermore, at least a portion of the periphery of the opening 28 may comprise at least one other seal 29b. This seal is for example mounted on the body 22 of the vehicle 20 so as to equip the entire periphery of the opening 28, as illustrated in [Fig. 13]. In this case, the flap 25 is then configured to exert pressure on said at least one seal 29b when the first door 24 and the second door 26 are both in the closed position. More precisely, the short edges of the rectangular-shaped flap 25 are configured to exert pressure on certain portions of the seal 29b which borders the opening 28.

[0059] According to a particular embodiment, the flap 25 may have a curved profile, that is to say that the flap may be curved, as illustrated in [Fig. 5]. More particularly, a curved flap 25 is curved in the same way as the second door 26 of the vehicle to which it is attached. In other words, the curved flap 25 follows the shape of a rear end 38 of the second door 26 to which it is attached.

[0060] More particularly still, the curved flap 25 is curved in the same way as the first door 24 of the vehicle against which it rests. In other words, the curved flap 25 follows the shape of a rear end 38 of the first door 24.

[0061] Preferably the curve of the rear part of the first door 24 is substantially identical to the curve of the front part of the second door 26.

[0062] Depending on the material chosen for the flap 25, the curved shape of said flap 25 can give it a certain elasticity. In other words, the curved shape of the flap 25 can act as an elastic blade, which can make it possible to accentuate its pressure on the seals 29a, 29b. A curved shape of the flap 25 promotes contact between the edges of the flap 25 and the seal(s) 29a, 29b intended to be crushed by the flap 25 when the first door 24 and the second door 26 are both in the closed position.

[0063] Furthermore, a return means 27 is arranged between the flap 25 and the door 24 or 26 to which the pivoting flap is attached. This return means 27 is configured to exert a return force on the flap 25 so as to move the flap 25 into an avoidance position relative to the door 24, 26 to which the flap 25 is attached in order to avoid contact of the flap 25 with the other door 24 or 26 when opening and / or closing the doors 24 and 26 of the access device 21. Such a return means 27 is notably illustrated in detail in FIGS. 10 to 12.

[0064] In this embodiment illustrated in Figures 10 to 12, a first end 27a of the return means 27 is attached to an inner face of the second door 26 while a second end 27b of the return means 27 is attached to the flap 25.

[0065] In the embodiment illustrated in Figures 10 and 11, the second end 27b of the return means 27 is attached to an insert 41 fixed to a flap face 25. This insert 41 can be similar to a hinge. In this way, the second end 27b of the return means 27 can be articulated relative to the flap 25 independently of the axis of rotation 39. In other words, the second end 27b of the return means 27 pivots about a hinge axis specific to the insert 41, this hinge axis being parallel to the axis of rotation 39 about which the flap 25 pivots.

[0066] In the embodiment illustrated in [Fig. 12], the second end 27b of the return means 27 is attached to an axis 42 inserted into protrusions 43 of the flap 25. These protrusions 43 form a hinge with the axis 42 to which the second end 27b of the return means 27 is attached. The axis 42 extends parallel to the rotation axis 39 around which the flap 25 pivots. In this embodiment, the return means 27 is more easily accessible, which makes it possible to check its condition during use and to simplify its replacement if necessary.

[0067] In these two embodiments, the return means 27 is in the form of a helical coil spring. However, other means can be envisaged for designing the return means 27, such as an elastic band for example.

[0068] As indicated previously, the return means 27 is configured to exert a return force on the flap 25 so as to move the flap 25 into an avoidance position relative to the door 26 to which it is attached. Here, the term "avoidance position" means that the flap 25 is moved from a position in which it is parallel to the plane of the door 24 to which it is attached to a position in which it is inclined relative to said plane of the door 24. In this position avoidance, an angle of inclination between 75° and 85° and more particularly equal to 80° can be observed between the flap 25 and the plane of the door 24. Such an avoidance position is shown in [Fig. 10].

[0069] In this way, the return means 27 exerts a return force on the flap 25, for example by pulling it, to put it in an angle of approximately 80 degrees relative to the second door 26 to which the flap 25 is attached to prevent the flap 25 from hitting the first door 24 when opening the second door 26. In this way, a collision between the flap 25 and the first door 24 is avoided. This also makes it possible to open the second door 26 located at the rear independently of the first door 24 located at the front, which gives more autonomy to a passenger seated at the rear of the car, because he no longer needs to wait for someone to open the first door 24 located at the front before opening the second door 26 located at the rear.

[0070] Various means can be envisaged to facilitate and guide the movement of the shutter 25 when opening the second door 26 to which it is attached to prevent the shutter 25 from striking the first door 24. Thus, according to a preferred embodiment, the shutter 25 comprises at least one movement member 31, such as a wheel.

[0071] Such a movement member 31 is illustrated in particular in FIGS. 5 and 6. This movement member 31 is configured to assist the movement of the shutter 25 along a determined trajectory during the opening and / or closing of the door 24 or 26 to which the shutter 25 is attached. Here, the term “determined trajectory” means a precise and repeatable trajectory of the shutter 25, this determined trajectory makes it possible to avoid a collision between the shutter 25 and the first door 24 during the opening and / or closing of the doors 24 and 26.

[0072] The displacement member 31 therefore makes it possible to guide the shutter 25 in its movement between its closed position and its avoidance position. It makes it possible more particularly to guide the shutter 25 during the crushing phase of the seals 29a, 29b during the closing of the second door 26 to which the shutter 25 is attached.

[0073] According to a preferred embodiment, the flap 25 comprises two displacement members 31 arranged at the edges of the flap 25 and more particularly in corners of the flap 25. This preferred embodiment of the flap 25 and of the displacement members 31 is illustrated in Figures 5 and 7. In this preferred embodiment, the displacement members 31 are located more particularly at the corners on the side of the free edge of the flap 25, the free edge designating the edge of the flap 25 which is not attached to a door 24 or 26 of the motor vehicle 20.

[0074] The displacement member(s) 31 may for example be in the form of a plastic caster. However, other embodiments may be envisaged for the movement member(s) 31, such as articulated bands, commonly called “tracks” for example.

[0075] Furthermore, the access device 21 may comprise at least one guide device 33 configured to cooperate with at least one displacement member 31 to guide the movement of the shutter 25 from its closed position to its avoidance position or vice versa according to the determined trajectory. Such a guide device is illustrated in FIGS. 13 and 14.

[0076] According to a preferred embodiment, the at least one guide device 33 is fixed to the body 22 of the vehicle 20, close to the opening 28, at the location where the flap 25 is located when the doors 24 and 26 are in the closed position. The possible locations for the at least one guide device 33 are illustrated in particular in [Fig.13],

[0077] According to a preferred embodiment, the vehicle 20 comprises two identical guidance devices 33, as illustrated more particularly in [Fig. 13]. In this embodiment, the vehicle 20 comprises a first guidance device 33 at the top of the body 22, in the periphery of the opening 28 and a second guidance device 33 located at the foot of the body 22, still in the periphery of the opening 28. Each of the guidance devices 33 is configured to cooperate with one of the movement members 31 located in the corners of the flap 25 so as to guide said flap 25 from its closed position to its avoidance position or vice versa according to the determined trajectory.

[0078] The at least one guide device 33 may be in the form of a guide rail comprising a notch 35 at one of its ends. Said notch 35 is configured to receive the at least one displacement member 31 when the second door 26 is closed, as illustrated in [Fig. 14]. Such a notch 35 makes it possible to house the at least one displacement member 31 and thus contributes to maintaining the flap 25 in its closed position. Such a notch 35 therefore makes it possible to secure the position of the flap 25 and contributes to limiting the vibrations of the flap 25 when the motor vehicle 20 is used for travel.

[0079] Furthermore, the guide device 33 may comprise an inclined portion 37 configured to cooperate with the at least one displacement member 31 of the shutter 25 in order to position the shutter 25 in its avoidance position. The inclined portion 37 makes it possible to guide the movement of the shutter 25 during the last degrees of closing of the door 26 to which the shutter 25 is attached according to a precise and repeatable trajectory, so as to ensure the durability of the access device 21.

[0080] More particularly, the roller which forms the displacement member 31 rolls along the guide rail from the notch 35 towards the inclined portion 37, or vice versa, to guide the movement of the shutter 25 from its closed position to its position avoidance or vice versa according to the determined trajectory. In other words, the inclined portion 37 is configured so as to bring the flap 25 into its avoidance position in which said flap 25 extends according to the angle of inclination defined previously.

[0081] The guide device 33 thus contributes to positioning the shutter 25 in its avoidance position relative to the door 24 or 26 to which the shutter 25 is attached in order to avoid contact with the other door 24 or 26 when opening and / or closing the doors 24 and 26.

[0082] Furthermore, the access device 21 may comprise a stop 45 configured to stop the movement of the shutter 25 in its avoidance position when the door 24 or 26 to which the shutter 25 is attached is opened.

[0083] One embodiment of the stop 45 is illustrated in particular in [Fig. 15]. In this illustrated embodiment, the stop 45 is similar to a stud held by a stop support 47, which itself is similar to a folded blade.

[0084] The stop 45 may for example comprise a plastic material, so as to absorb the shock when the flap 25 strikes said stop 45 at the end of its travel. Such a stop 45 makes it possible to prevent the flap 25 from damaging the surrounding trim in the passenger compartment of the vehicle 20. The material for the stop support 47 may be a plastic material or a metallic material. The choice of material for the stop support 47 has an influence on its elasticity.

[0085] In the embodiment illustrated in [Fig. 15], the stop 45 and the stop support 47 are two separate parts. This allows either the stop 45 or the stop support 47 to be replaced individually depending on requirements and wear of the parts.

[0086] According to an embodiment not illustrated, the stop 45 and the stop support 47 can be formed from the same material and form a single part.

[0087] It is thus possible to design an opening device 21 for a motor vehicle 20 with opposing doors 24, 26 where the opening device 21 comprises a flap 25 which makes it possible to open and close the doors 24 and 26 arranged in opposing manner in any order and without the flap 25 or the doors 24, 26 colliding in their respective movement.
