Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Bottle conditioning device
[0001] The present invention relates to a cardboard packaging device for packaging bottles.
[0002] It also relates to a blank and a method of implementing the blank to produce the packaging device.
[0003] One envisaged field of application is in particular that of the packaging of bottles, for example, by six or by eight bottles according to two contiguous rows of three or four bottles joined together.
[0004] It is known to package bottles of soda or beer, for example, with a capacity of 25 cl or 33 cl each, in packs of six. These bottles include a neck and a cap located at the end of said neck.
[0005] A longitudinal cardboard strip is then provided, the width of which corresponds approximately to the length of the two adjacent rows of bottles placed side by side. The cardboard strip has, in a central transverse zone, two rows of three holes, and this central zone is applied to the bottles so that the 2x3 necks fit respectively into the 2x3 holes in the central transverse zone. The cardboard strip is then folded into a loop and glued to the bottom of the bottles.
[0006] In addition, two lights are provided in the median transverse area between the two rows of three orifices to allow easy transport of the six-bottle pack thus produced.
[0007] Such packaging allows the bottles to be held against each other. Consequently, in the event of an impact, several of the bottles in the pack are likely to break.
[0008] Moreover, the cardboard strip substantially obscures the body of the bottles, and consequently, it is more difficult to ascertain their condition or to read the inscriptions they bear.
[0009] Also, a problem which arises and which the present invention aims to solve is to provide a conditioning device which not only ensures the integrity of the bottles, but also allows their condition to be easily checked.
[0010] In order to solve this problem, and according to a first object, a cardboard packaging device is proposed for packaging at least two contiguous bottles, each of the bottles comprising a neck and a cap located at the end of said neck, said device comprising: a cylinder of triangular cross-section having two opposite free edges and a connecting edge opposite said two free edges; two proximal wings extending from said connecting edge opposite each other and each presenting at least one light to enable the necks of said at least two bottles respectively to be engaged through the two at least one light, while said cylinder is carried between said necks to engage said two opposite free edges under the corks; and two distal flaps respectively articulated on said two wings along two lines of articulation each parallel to said connecting edge, each of the two distal flaps presenting at least one portion of free edge extending in line with said at least one light, to enable the two distal flaps to be folded back towards said cylinder and engage the portions of free edge under said corks opposite said edges.
[0011] Thus, a feature of the invention lies in the implementation of a conditioning device comprising a cylinder with a triangular cross-section which extends between the necks. In this way, the bottles are kept apart from each other by means of their necks.
[0012] Moreover, the body of the bottles is free and is therefore completely visible.
[0013] According to a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, said two distal flaps further comprise, respectively, two complementary flaps having articulated tabs on said distal flaps on either side of said free edge portions, thus defining at least one complementary opening. The complementary flaps are adapted to be folded towards each other while the caps pass through the complementary openings. In this way, in addition to the edges and free edge portions that engage under the caps in diametrically opposed positions, the cap itself engages within the complementary openings. This ensures greater rigidity of the packaging device and, consequently, better support for the at least two contiguous bottles.
[0014] Advantageously, and according to the invention, said cylinder has an upper face extending between said two edges and at least one gripping opening formed in said upper face. In this way, it is easier to hold the bottles suspended by the cylinder by inserting the fingers through the gripping opening.
[0015] Also, according to the invention, said free edge portions preferably have a curved shape. In this way, the free edge portions conform more completely to the shape of the bottle necks under the cap. This results in better anchoring and, consequently, better retention of the bottle necks through the packaging device.
[0016] According to a particularly advantageous embodiment, said two proximal wings each have three lights to be able to condition two contiguous rows of three bottles joined together.
[0017] However, more generally, said two proximal wings each have a plurality of lights aligned along said connecting edge, and each of the two distal flaps has a plurality of free edge portions extending respectively to the plurality of lights in order to condition two contiguous rows of a plurality of bottles joined together.
[0018] According to another object, the invention relates to a longitudinal blank for making a packaging device as described above, according to a first embodiment, and it comprises: a transverse median strip delimited by two first transverse fold lines opposite each other; two transverse strips adjacent to said transverse median strip, respectively delimited by said two first transverse fold lines and by two second transverse fold lines opposite each other; two first transverse panels respectively adjacent to said two transverse strips and respectively delimited by said two second transverse fold lines and by two third transverse fold lines opposite each other, said first two panels each having at least one recess between the second and third fold lines;and, two second transverse panels respectively adjacent to the said two first transverse panels and respectively delimited by the said two third transverse fold lines and on the opposite side by at least two free edge sections at the recesses. ;
[0019] We will describe in more detail later in the description how to implement said longitudinal blank to carry out the conditioning of the bottles.
[0020] According to a second embodiment of the invention, the blank further comprises two third transverse panels respectively adjacent to said two second transverse panels and respectively articulated on either side of the free edge parts, and said two third panels each have at least one additional recess into which the free edge part extends.
[0021] The purpose of the two third transverse panels will also be explained in more detail later in the description.
[0022] According to a first, particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, the blank comprises at least one tab formed in at least one recess of one of the first panels, and hinged in the edge of said at least one recess located near the corresponding second fold line. As will be explained below, the tab holds the two adjacent transverse strips together to maintain them in the shape of a triangular cylinder.
[0023] Preferably, when the first two panels each have more than two recesses, the blank includes at least two tabs provided respectively in at least two recesses of one of said first panels, and articulated respectively in the edge of the recesses located in the vicinity of the corresponding second fold lines.
[0024] According to a second embodiment of the invention, the blank comprises at least one raised tab cut into one of said transverse strips from said corresponding second fold line and at least one corresponding pair of flaps cut into the other transverse strip along the other second fold line. The raised tab also serves to hold the two adjacent transverse strips together.
[0025] Preferably, the blank comprises two swollen tabs cut from one of said transverse bands from said corresponding second fold line and two pairs of corresponding flaps cut from the other transverse band along the other second fold line.
[0026] According to yet another aspect, the invention relates to a method for making a packaging device as described above, comprising the following steps: a blank is provided according to the first embodiment described above; the two transverse strips are then folded towards each other so as to join the two second transverse lines, forming the cylinder with a triangular cross-section; then the two first transverse panels are folded in opposite directions; and at least one tab of the first two panels is folded towards the other to join them together. They are joined together, for example, by gluing. The device thus made can be used directly to join the bottles together.
[0027] According to this embodiment method, and in accordance with an alternative embodiment, a blank is provided according to the second method of implementation described above; then the two transverse strips are folded towards each other while a swollen tongue is engaged respectively through at least one pair of flaps so as to join the two second transverse lines and to connect the two transverse strips together, forming the triangular cylinder; and the two first transverse panels are folded opposite each other.
[0028] Other features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of particular embodiments of the invention, given by way of example but not limitation, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:

[0037] [Fig.8] is a schematic right-section view of the conditioning device object of [Fig.4A] in situ.
[0038] Fig. 1 shows, viewed from above, and according to a first method of implementation, a first blank 10 in corrugated cardboard, substantially rectangular, extending longitudinally, and in accordance with a first variant of execution.
[0039] The corrugated cardboard used is double-sided, with a fluted paper sandwiched between two sheets of flat paper. The fluted paper is between 1 mm and 2 mm thick. Of course, corrugated cardboard of a different shape and dimensions can be used.
[0040] The first blank 10 has two opposing longitudinal edges 12, 14, spaced apart by a distance, here less than 300 mm, for example approximately 295 mm. Blanks with other dimensions are obviously possible depending on the intended use.
[0041] The first blank 10 comprises a first transverse median band 16 extending from one longitudinal edge 12 to the other 14 and delimited by two first transverse fold lines 18, 20 opposed to each other. The first two fold lines 18, 20 are separated from each other by a distance of approximately 40 mm.
[0042] Furthermore, the first median band 16 has two first cuts in portion of circle 22, 24 opposite each other.
[0043] The first blank 10 also includes two first transverse bands 26, 28 adjacent to the first median band 16. They are delimited respectively, on the one hand by the first two first fold lines 18, 20 and on the other hand, by two second first fold lines 30, 32.
[0044] The first two bands 26, 28 are symmetrical to each other with respect to the first median band 16 and it has the same width, here close to 35 mm.
[0045] In addition, the first blank 10 comprises two first transverse panels 34, 36 adjacent, respectively, to the first two transverse bands 26, 28 and delimited from them by the two second first transverse fold lines 30, 32. On the contrary, the two first transverse panels 34, 36 are delimited respectively by two third first transverse fold lines 38, 40.
[0046] The width of the first two transverse panels 34, 36 is here close to 65 mm.
[0047] Also, one 34 of the first two transverse panels 34, 36 has three first circular recesses, one central 42, the other two 44, 46 end and symmetrical to each other with respect to the first central recess 42.
[0048] Also, the first three recesses 42, 44, 46 are aligned in a direction parallel to the median band 16 and regularly spaced from each other. They also extend at a distance between one 38 of the two third transverse fold lines, and one 30 of the two second transverse fold lines.
[0049] In addition, the first three recesses 42, 44, 46 have a diameter between 25 mm and 28 mm. These dimensions are in no way limiting.
[0050] Also, the other 36 of the first two first transverse panels 34, 36, has a second first central circular recess 48 symmetrical to the first first central circular recess 42 with respect to the transverse median band 16.
[0051] On the other hand, the other first first panel 36 has two second first end recesses 50, 52 inside which are respectively cut two first tabs 54, 56 articulated in two first first edges 58, 60 located along one 32 of the two second first transverse folding lines 30, 32 and parallel to it.
[0052] And the first blank 10 further comprises two second first transverse panels 62, 64 which are adjacent, respectively, to the two first first transverse panels from which they are delimited by the two third first transverse fold lines 38 40.
[0053] On the contrary, the two second first panels 62, 64 are delimited by a border having three curved free edge parts 66, 68, 70 located respectively at the right of the three first first recesses 42, 44, 46, for one 62 of the two second first panels 62, 64 respectively, and at the right of the three second first recesses 48, 50, 52 for the other 64 second first panel.
[0054] Reference will now be made to [Fig. 2] showing, according to a second embodiment, a second blank 10' similar to the first blank 10, except for the tabs. These will also be described in detail, and the elements similar to those of the first blank 10 will have the same reference marked with a prime sign: « '.
[0055] Thus, it will be observed that the second blank 10' has three first second recesses 42', 44', 46' and three second second recesses 48', 50', 52', respectively symmetrical to each other with respect to the second transverse median band 16'. And they are identical. The second transverse median band 16' is delimited by the first two transverse second fold lines 18', 20'.
[0056] Conversely, two second flared tabs 54', 56' are cut from one 28' of the two second strips 26', 28', along one 32' of the second fold lines 30', 32'. These two second tabs 54', 56' are formed respectively at the second end recesses 50', 52'. Furthermore, they have the shape of a portion of a circle, and each has two fold lines forming a substantially isosceles triangle with a portion of the second fold line 32'. The two fold lines thus define two circular segments symmetrical to each other with respect to a median perpendicular to said portion of the second fold line 32'.
[0057] Also, opposite the second transverse median band 16', the other second band 26' has two pairs of flaps 55, 57 arranged along the other second fold line 30'. The flaps of the two pairs of flaps 55, 57 are respectively hinged in a direction perpendicular to the other second fold line 30'. And the opening they define has a width less than the diameter of the two second tabs 54', 56'.
[0058] In addition, two slots 59, 61 are respectively provided at the base of the two pairs of flaps 55, 57 following the second folding line 30'.
[0059] Thus, we will now refer to [Fig.1], [Fig.4A], [Fig.4B] and then [Fig.8], in order to describe the making of the conditioning device according to the invention using the first blank 10, and then its implementation.
[0060] First, the first two transverse strips 26, 28 are folded towards each other, following the first two transverse folding lines 18, 20, so as to join the second first folding lines 30, 32 by forming, with the first transverse median strip 16, a first cylinder 72 of triangular section and which can be found on [Fig.4A].
[0061] The first cylinder 72 thus has two opposing free edges 74, 76 and a connecting edge 78, itself opposite the two free edges 74, 76. The first cylinder 72 has a first upper face 75 extending between the two free edges opposite 76, 74, which upper face 75 corresponds to the first transverse median band 16 of the first blank 10. Also, the first two cuts in portion of circle 22, 24 of the first blank 10 allow to provide two gripping openings 77, 79 in the upper face 75.
[0062] Next, the first two transverse panels 34, 36 are folded along the two second first fold lines 30, 32, opposite each other, which then form two first proximal wings 80, 82.
[0063] Also, the first three first recesses 42, 44, 46 of the first flan 10 form three first first lights, 84, 86, 88 in one, 80, of the two proximal wings, while the second three first recesses 48, 50, 52 form respectively three second first lights 90, 92, 94 in the other proximal wing 82.
[0064] It will be observed that one 56 of the first two tabs 54, 56 remains inside one 94 of the second first lights, while the other first tab 54 has been folded 180° along the first corresponding first edge 58, towards the other first panel 34 corresponding to the proximal wing 80.
[0065] And we find on [Fig.4B], seen from below, the first tab 54 folded down and glued against the underside of the proximal wing 80.
[0066] Obviously, the other first tab 56 is also intended to be folded back 180° and glued against the underside of the proximal wing 80.
[0067] In this way, the two proximal wings 80, 82 are joined together. By the same token, the second first fold lines 30, 32 are kept joined. And as a result, the first cylinder 72 is rigid.
[0068] In addition, on both [Fig.4A] and [Fig.4B], the two second first transverse panels 62, 64 of the first blank 10 are folded along the third first transverse fold lines 38 40, and are erected in relation to the two proximal wings 80, 82, to form two distal flaps 91, 93. A first conditioning device 95 is thus obtained in accordance with the invention according to a first embodiment and in accordance with a first variant of the embodiment.
[0069] In addition, the three curved free edge parts 66, 68, 70 of the first two second panels 62, 64, form two times three curved free edge portions whose function will be described below with regard to [Fig.8].
[0070] On this [Fig.8] are illustrated, front view, the first two rows 96, 97 contiguous of three bottles joined together of which only the first two 98, 100 appear.
[0071] Also, each of the bottles 98, includes a neck 102 ending in a stopper 104, and a shoulder 106 between the neck 102 and the stopper 104.
[0072] Thus, the conditioning device 95 is applied to the two rows 96, 97 so as to engage first of all the two times three collars 102 through the first three first lights, 84, 86, 88 and the second three first lights 90, 92, 94 of the two wings 80, 82 respectively.
[0073] While the collars 102 are engaged through the openings 84, 86, 88; 90, 92, 94, the first cylinder 72 is engaged between the two rows of three collars 102, and its two opposite edges 74, 76 are brought respectively into contact under the plugs 104 against the shoulders 106.
[0074] For some bottles, the necks have collars extending below the corks and thus forming support shoulders.
[0075] Then, on the opposite side, the two distal flaps 91, 93 are folded back towards the necks 102 so as to also apply the two times three portions of curved free edge 66, 68, 70 respectively under the plugs 104 against the shoulder 106 and diametrically opposite to the edges 74, 76.
[0076] In this way, the packaging device 95 is locked onto the two rows 96, 97 of three bottles. And these can then be suspended by the first cylinder 72 by placing the fingers through the upper face 75 into the gripping slots 77, 79.
[0077] Reference will now be made to [Fig.2] and [Fig.5] showing a second variant of execution in accordance with the first mode of implementation.
[0078] Thus, while folding the two second transverse bands 26', 28' towards each other, along the two first second transverse folding lines 18', 20', the two circular segments of each of the two second swollen tabs 54', 56' are folded towards each other, while these two second swollen tabs 54', 56' are rotated so that they can be guided respectively through the openings of the two pairs of flaps 55, 57. As the two second transverse bands 26', 28' come together, the flaps of the pairs of flaps 55, 57 move apart to allow the passage of the two second swollen tabs 54', 56' whose two circular segments are folded towards each other.
[0079] When the two second second folding lines 30', 32' meet, the two second transverse bands 26', 28' form with the second median transverse band 16', a second cylinder 72', while two second swollen tabs 54', 56' pass through the two slots 59, 61 respectively and the pairs of flaps 55, 57 return to their original closed position.
[0080] Then, the two circular segments of the two second swollen tabs 54', 56' are redeployed to hold the two second transverse bands 26', 28' against each other in a fixed position as illustrated in [Fig.5].
[0081] A second conditioning device 95' is thus obtained in accordance with the invention according to a first embodiment and in accordance with a second variant of embodiment.
[0082] Also, this second 95' conditioning device can be implemented on two contiguous rows of three bottles joined together, in the same way as with the first 95' conditioning device.
[0083] Reference will now be made to [Fig.3], [Fig.6] and [Fig.7] illustrating a second embodiment of the invention.
[0084] First, [Fig. 3] shows a third blank 10”, similar to the first blank 10, with additional elements added. These will be described in detail, and the elements similar to those of the first blank 10 will have the same reference marked with a double prime sign: « ””.
[0085] Thus, the third 10” side comprises two third transverse panels 110, 112 adjacent respectively to the two second third transverse panels 62”, 64” which are adjacent, respectively, to the first two third transverse panels 34”, 36”.
[0086] The two second third transverse panels 62' ', 64' ', have three curved free edge parts 66”, 68”, 70” located respectively at the right of the first three third recesses 42”, 44”, 46”, for one 62” of the two second third panels 62”, 64” respectively, and at the right of the three second third recesses 48”, 50”, 52” for the other 64” second third panel.
[0087] The two third transverse panels 110, 112 are respectively articulated on the two second transverse panels 62”, 64” on either side of the curved free edge parts 66”, 68”, 70”.
[0088] In addition, one 110 of the two third transverse panels 110, 112, has three identical complementary first recesses 114, 116, 118 regularly spaced along one 62” of the second third panels. Thus, the curved free edge parts 66”, 68”, 70” respectively and partially delimit the first three identical complementary recesses 114, 116, 118.
[0089] It will be observed that the three identical complementary recesses 114, 116, 118 extend respectively to the right of the first three third recesses 42”, 44”, 46” and that they present substantially the same geometry and the same dimensions.
[0090] Also, conversely, the other 112 of the two third transverse panels 110, 112, has three identical complementary recesses 120, 122, 124 spaced regularly along the other 64” of the second third panels. Thus, the curved free edge portions 66”, 68”, 70” respectively and partially delimit the three identical complementary recesses 120, 122, 124.
[0091] The three identical complementary second recesses 120, 122, 124 extend respectively to the right of the three second third recesses 48”, 50”, 52” and they also present substantially the same geometry and the same dimensions.
[0092] In addition, the third median band 16” has two third cutouts in the form of a portion of a circle 22”, 24” opposite each other. And opposite these third cutouts, the two third transverse panels 110, 112 each have two notches 126, 128 in the form of a half-circle.
[0093] Also found on this third blank 10”, are two first third transverse fold lines 18”, 20” delimiting the third median band 16” from the two third transverse bands 26”, 28” adjacent to the third median band 16”.
[0094] It also includes two second third folding lines 30”, 32” and two third transverse folding lines 38”, 40”.
[0095] Thus, the third blank 10” is implemented in the same way as the first blank 10 as illustrated in [Fig. 6] where we find two distal flaps 91”, 93” respectively extended by the two third transverse panels 110, 112, thus forming two complementary flaps 130, 132 respectively folded together against the third upper face 75” of the third cylinder 72”. The complementary flaps 130, 132 respectively have tabs articulated on the distal flaps 91”, 93” on each side of the curved free edge portions 66”, 68”, 70”.
[0096] Also, the first three complementary recesses 114, 116, 118 and the second three complementary recesses 120, 122, 124 of the two third transverse panels 110, 112, respectively delimit three first complementary lights 134, 136, 138 and three second complementary lights 140, 142, 144.
[0097] It will be observed that the first three complementary lights 134, 136, 138 extend respectively to the vertical axis of the first three third lights, 84”, 86”, 88”, and that the second three complementary lights 140, 142, 144 extend respectively to the vertical axis of the second three third lights 90”, 92”, 94”.
[0098] A third 95” conditioning device according to the invention is thus obtained.
[0099] Reference will now be made to [Fig.7], analogous to [Fig.8], showing the implementation of the third conditioning device 95”.
[0100] Thus, two contiguous second rows 96”, 97” of three bottles joined together are illustrated, seen from the front.
[0101] Thus, the third conditioning device 95” is applied to the two rows 96”, 97” so as to engage first of all the two times three collars 102” through the first three third lights, 84”, 86”, 88” and the second three third lights 90”, 92”, 94” of the two wings 80”, 82” respectively.
[0102] While the collars 102' are engaged through the openings 84”, 86”, 88”; 90”, 92”, 94”, the third cylinder 72” is engaged between the two second rows of three collars 102”, and its two opposite edges 74”, 76” are brought respectively into contact under the plugs 104” against the shoulders 106”.
[0103] Then, on the opposite side, the two distal flaps 91”, 93” are folded back towards the collars 102” while the two times three curved free edge portions 66”, 68”, 70” are respectively brought into contact under the plugs 104” against the shoulder 106” and diametrically opposite the edges 74”, 76”.
[0104] Moreover, the two complementary flaps 130, 132 are respectively folded down in a contiguous manner against the third upper face 75”, while the stoppers 104” of the necks 102” of the two rows 96”, 97” of bottles, respectively come to be forced into three first complementary lights 134, 136, 138 and the three second complementary lights 140, 142, 144.
[0105] In this way, the two complementary flaps 130, 132 allow for additional locking of the bottle tops. It also provides greater rigidity to the assembly.
[0106] The conditioning device 95' ' is locked onto the two rows 96”, 97” of three bottles, and the latter can then be suspended by the third cylinder 72” by bringing the fingers through the upper face 75” into the gripping lights 77”, 79”, left free thanks to the two notches 126, 128 in half-circle.
