Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: RADIATOR GRILLE WITH MOVABLE SHUTTERS AND CORRESPONDING MOUNTING METHOD Technical field
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of radiator grilles for motor vehicles. In particular, the invention relates to the adaptation of the grille to a particular design.
[0002] A radiator grille for a motor vehicle advantageously comprises active shutters capable of adopting an open position and a closed position, thus making it possible to control the temperature of the engine. When the radiator needs fresh air for cooling the engine, the active shutters open.
[0003] Active shutters also have an aesthetic function since they allow the technical elements located at the rear of the grille to be hidden. For aerodynamic and aesthetic reasons, the radiator grille of a vehicle may include a curve. The curve creates complexities in the architecture of the grille, which must follow the desired curvature, meeting technical needs such as engine temperature management, and aesthetic needs such as the animation and shapes created when the grille is opened and closed.
[0004] A radiator grille further comprises at least one frame which allows the flaps to be held together. Previous techniques
[0005] Today, there are flat grilles comprising two flat flaps capable of pivoting around a transverse axis and oriented towards one side of the vehicle, to control the air intake into the radiator. A design comprising two flat flaps is however not a suitable solution for a curved grille since the flaps cannot correctly follow the curve of the grille without causing technical and / or aesthetic problems.
[0006] There are also grilles comprising shutters capable of adopting an open and then closed position, but such grilles comprise fixed bars visible on the surface of the grille. Fixed bars in a grille generally make it possible to respond to structural and / or safety issues. For aesthetic reasons, this solution is not considered optimal. Statement of the invention
[0007] The aim of the present invention is to propose a solution which responds to the aforementioned technical and aesthetic problems.
[0008] The invention therefore relates to a radiator grille for a motor vehicle comprising a set of active shutters capable of adopting an open position and a closed position, a fixed frame and a movable frame connected to each other by a means for assembling the fixed frame and the movable frame, the set of shutters being fixed inside the fixed and movable frames, and a means for moving the movable frame causing the shutters to open and close.
[0009] Advantageously, each shutter comprises a stepped platform, at least one means for fixing the shutter to the fixed frame comprising a pivot connection, and at least one means for fixing the shutter to the movable frame, comprising a right-angled axis and a holding lug positioned at one end of the right-angled axis.
[0010] In one embodiment, the movable frame comprises a frame, at least one vertical or horizontal bar passing through the frame which comprises several projecting parts which comprise an oblong hole intended to accommodate a means for fixing a shutter to the movable frame, and a means for moving the movable frame comprising an electric motor and a control rod, the motor being intended to drive the control rod.
[0011] Advantageously, the control rod of the means for moving the mobile frame is connected to a bar of the mobile frame allowing translation of the mobile frame along a vertical axis.
[0012] The fixed frame may comprise a frame, at least one vertical or horizontal bar passing through the frame which comprises several projecting parts which comprise a clip end piece, the clip end piece being intended to accommodate the means for fixing the shutter to the fixed frame.
[0013] In one embodiment, the means for assembling the fixed frame and the movable frame comprises a sliding connection.
[0014] According to one embodiment, the set of panes comprises several panes nested together and forms several columns and / or several rows of panes.
[0015] Advantageously, the grille comprises a curve, the shutters opening horizontally or vertically along an axis normal to the transverse plane passing through the bar to which the shutters are fixed.
[0016] The invention also relates to a motor vehicle which comprises a grille as defined above.
[0017] The invention also relates to a method for mounting a radiator grille for a motor vehicle as defined above. The method comprises the following steps: positioning the shutters on an assembly table, each shutter comprising at least one means for fixing the shutter to the fixed frame, and at least one means for fixing the shutter to the movable frame, • fixing the shutters to the mobile frame, • rotation of the movable frame so that the shutters are locked on the movable frame, • fixing the fixed frame to the shutters by the means of fixing the shutters to the fixed frame, • assembly of the fixed frame and the mobile frame. [0027] In [Fig.l], the front face of a motor vehicle designated by the reference numeral 1 is shown, comprising a low radiator grille 2 A and a high radiator grille 2 B. The motor vehicle 1 is inscribed in an orthogonal reference frame X, Y, Z. The X axis designates the front-rear longitudinal direction of the vehicle, the Y axis designates the transverse direction oriented towards the left of the vehicle observed from the front, in the X direction, and the Z axis designates the vertical direction, oriented towards the top of the vehicle.
[0028] The embodiment described in the remainder of the description relates to the lower radiator grille 2 B of the motor vehicle, but can be applied to all radiator grilles 2, in particular to the upper grille A of the motor vehicle.
[0029] Figures 2A and 2B show in perspective respectively the front face and the rear face of the grille 2. The grille comprises a set of active flaps 3 capable of adopting an open position PO and a closed position PF, a fixed frame 4 and a movable frame 5, the two frames 4, 5 framing the set of flaps 3. The grille 2 also comprises a fixed panel 6 fixed to the fixed frame 4, surrounding the flaps 3 and positioned along a vertical plane.
[0030] The grille 2 comprises a curve 7 which extends transversely along the Y axis and vertically along the Z axis. Consequently, the fixed 4 and mobile 5 frames and the fixed panel 6 comprise a curved shape giving the grille a generally convex shape.
[0031] The set of active flaps 3 comprises several flaps 3, the number of which varies according to several parameters, such as the dimensions of the grille 2, the desired ventilation characteristics for the engine, and certain standards in force.
[0032] Preferably, the set of shutters 3 comprises several rows and / or several columns of aligned shutters 3, thus forming a grid of patterns. The fixed panel 6 of the grille 2 exactly matches the contour of the grid of patterns created. Furthermore, the set of shutters 3 tends to precisely follow the shape of the curve 7 of the grille 2. The more shutters 3 the grille 2 comprises, the more the set of shutters 3 matches the curved shape 7 of the grille 2.
[0033] [Fig. 3] illustrates a shutter 3 comprising a platform 8 stepped on two levels, comprising an upper level 8a and a lower level 8b, two means for fixing the shutter 3 to the fixed frame 4 and a means for fixing the shutter 3 to the movable frame 5. The shutters 3 are in the shape of irregular hexagons.
[0034] The first flap 3 fits into the second flap 3 thanks to the superposition of the upper level 8a of the stepped platform 8 of the first flap 3 with the lower level 8b of the platform 8 of the second flap 3. The fixed panel 6 comprises a rim which fits perfectly into the shape of the flaps 3. The interlocking of the flaps 3 with each other and of the flaps 3 with the fixed panel 6 improves the aerodynamics of the grille 2 and provides better sealing for the engine.
[0035] The means for fixing the shutter 3 to the fixed frame 4 comprise a pivot connection 9, giving the shutter 3 the freedom to move in rotation around the transverse axis Y with respect to the fixed frame 4. This rotational movement thus allows the shutter 3 to adopt an open position PO and a closed position PF. The means for fixing the shutter 3 to the movable frame 5 comprise a right-angled axis 10 which emerges from the center of the shutter 3 and a holding lug 11 positioned at one end of the right-angled axis 10, providing the shutter 3 a locking and stability function on the mobile frame 5 when said means for fixing the shutter 3 to the mobile frame 5 is correctly activated.
[0036] The flap 3 may comprise a means for fixing the flap 3 to the fixed frame 4 and several means for fixing the flap 3 to the movable frame 5. A design of the flap 3 comprising two means for fixing the flap 3 to the fixed frame 4 allows a stable position of the flap 3 which must be capable of withstanding weather conditions during the running of the motor vehicle 1.
[0037] Each flap 3 is fixed inside the fixed 4 and mobile 5 frames. More precisely, the flaps 3 are fixed on the one hand to the fixed frame 4 by means of the means for fixing the flap 3 to the fixed frame 5, and the flaps 3 are fixed on the other hand to the mobile frame 5 by means of the means for fixing the flap 3 to the mobile frame 5.
[0038] The grille 2 shown in Figures 2A and 2B comprises seven columns of flaps 3 aligned next to each other and nested with a slight vertical offset, each column comprising five flaps 3.
[0039] The movable frame 5 comprises a frame 12, seven vertical bars 13 which pass through the frame 12 of the movable frame 5 and which each comprise five projecting parts. Each projecting part comprises an oblong hole 14 intended to accommodate the means for fixing a shutter 3 to the movable frame 5. More precisely, the oblong hole 14 is intended to accommodate the right-angled axis 10 and the holding lug 11 of a shutter 3. The movable frame 5 also comprises a means for moving the movable frame 5 along the vertical axis Z.
[0040] The movement means comprises for example an electric motor 15 and a control rod 16 positioned longitudinally between the motor 15 and the central bar 13 of the mobile frame 5. The motor 15 makes it possible to move the control rod 16 along the vertical axis Z, the latter driving the translation of the mobile frame 5.
[0041] The fixed frame 4 of the grille 2 comprises a frame 17, fourteen vertical bars 18 which pass through the frame 17 of the fixed frame 4 and which each comprise five projecting parts. Each projecting part comprises at its end a clip end piece 19 intended to accommodate the means for fixing a shutter 3 to the fixed frame 4. More precisely, the clip end piece 19 is intended to be clipped onto the pivot connection 9 of a shutter 3.
[0042] The fixed 4 and mobile 5 frames are connected to each other by a means for assembling the fixed frame 4 and the mobile frame 5. The assembly means comprises a sliding connection 20 so as to allow the mobile frame 5 a vertical translation along the Z axis while the fixed frame 4 remains fixed in the calender 2. The length of the sliding connection 20 is between 5 millimeters and 50 millimeters, preferably equal to 20 millimeters.
[0043] When the movable frame 5 moves vertically along the Z axis, the flaps 3 adopt a closed position PF or an open position PO depending on the height of the connecting rod 16. [Fig.4] illustrates the movement of the connecting rod 16 causing the opening and closing of the flaps 3 over the time t.
[0044] When the flaps 3 are in the open position PO, the connecting rod 16 is at a height H1 lower than its height H2 when the flaps 3 are in the closed position PF. The pivot links 9 of the flaps 3 keep the flaps 3 fixed to the fixed frame 4, while allowing them to rotate around the Y axis, and the means for fixing the flaps 3 to the movable frame 5 allow the flaps 3 to follow the translation of the movable frame 5. Consequently, when the movable frame 5 and the connecting rod 16 are at a height H2, the flaps 3 are closed, and when the movable frame 5 and the connecting rod 16 are at a height H1, the flaps 3 are open, rotating 90° from one position to the other.
[0045] Without a suitable solution, the shutters 3 open and close along an axis normal to the transverse plane passing through the bar on which the connecting rod 16 acts. The shape created when the shutters 3 are open along an axis normal to the transverse plane passing through the central bar of the mobile frame 5, is a downwardly concave arc of a circle, which is not aesthetically attractive.
[0046] The opening of the flaps 3 is therefore carried out along an axis N normal to the transverse plane which passes through the bar to which the corresponding flaps 3 are fixed, so that said flaps 3 open horizontally, independently of their position on the curve 7 of the grille 2. In other words, the flap 3 fixed to the central bar opens along an axis normal to the transverse plane passing through the central bar of the movable frame 5, while a flap 3 fixed to the leftmost bar opens along an axis normal to the transverse plane passing through the leftmost bar of the movable frame 5.
[0047] This mechanism is made possible by the oblong holes 14 of the bars 13 of the movable frame 5. In fact, the oblong holes 14 provide freedom of movement when changing the position of the flaps 3, allowing horizontal alignment of each flap 3.
[0048] This solution is suitable for many possible shapes and orientations of the grille 2. It is thus possible to design a grille 2 comprising fixed 4 and mobile 5 frames which comprise horizontal bars passing through the frame of the frames, and comprising a means for fixing the shutter 3 to the mobile frame 5 rotated at 90°, causing the translation of the mobile frame 5 along the Y axis and the rotation of the shutters 3 around the Z axis. This solution can also be envisaged for any type and shape of shutter.
[0049] Furthermore, a differentiated length of the projecting parts of the fixed 4 and mobile 5 frames makes it possible to process a grille 2 comprising a concave, convex or flat curve 7, and to obtain differentiated opening and closing speeds of the shutters 3. This makes it possible to have an animated undulating effect when opening and closing the shutters 3. For example, when starting the motor vehicle 1, it is possible to envisage that a particular opening and closing of the shutters 3 is carried out, so that the grille 2, considered to be the “mouth” of the motor vehicle 1, comes to life in a welcoming manner.
[0050] Figures 5, 6 and 7 illustrate certain steps of the method of mounting the grille 2 as described above.
[0051] The method of mounting the grille 2 comprises a first step of positioning the flaps 3 on an assembly table. The flaps 3 are positioned so as to make accessible the means of fixing the flaps 3 to the fixed frame 4 and to the movable frame 5.
[0052] The second step of the method of mounting the grille 2 is illustrated in [Fig. 5] and corresponds to the activation of the means for fixing the flaps 3 to the movable frame 5. The movable frame 5 is positioned above the flaps 3 to allow the right-angled axes 10 of the means for fixing the flaps 3 to the movable frame 5 to be housed in the oblong holes 14 of the projecting parts of the movable frame 5.
[0053] The third step of the method of mounting the grille 2 illustrated in [Fig.6] corresponds to the rotation of the movable frame 5 to activate the locking of the means for fixing the flaps 3 on the movable frame 5, and therefore the locking of the flaps 3 on the movable frame 5. In other words, the rotation of the movable frame 5 causes the right-angle axis 10 to close in the oblong hole 14 of the movable frame 5, the holding lug 11 thus being positioned perpendicular to the oblong hole 14.
[0054] Then, the method comprises a fourth step illustrated in [Fig.7] which corresponds to the fixing of the fixed frame 4 on the shutters 3 by the means for fixing the shutters 3 to the fixed frame 4. More precisely, the clip end pieces 19 of the fixed frame 4 are clipped to the pivot connections 9 of the shutters 3.
[0055] Finally, the method of mounting the grille 2 comprises a fifth step consisting of assembling the fixed frame 4 and the movable frame 5 by means of the means for assembling the two frames 4, 5. The sliding connection 20 is activated, leaving the movable frame 5 free to move vertically along the Z axis.
[0056] This solution thus makes it possible to adapt the movement of the shutters according to the architecture of the grille and the desired technical conditions, while respecting a particular aesthetic.
