Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Disc brake assembly and motor vehicle comprising such an assembly Technical field
[0001] The invention relates to the field of motor vehicles, and concerns a disc brake assembly of a braking system of a motor vehicle.
[0002] The invention also relates to a motor vehicle comprising such an assembly. Prior art
[0003] A disc brake assembly of a braking system of a motor vehicle comprises a brake disc, fixed on a hub of a wheel of the vehicle, and a brake caliper supporting brake pads mounted on either side of the brake disc.
[0004] The brake pads are capable of being moved towards the brake disc by the action of a piston supplied by hydraulic fluid from a hydraulic circuit of the braking system when braking is requested by a user.
[0005] Thus, when braking is requested by a user, the hydraulic fluid arrives under pressure in the piston, causing the brake pads to clamp against the brake disc.
[0006] In a vehicle equipped with a disc brake assembly fitted to the rear axle of the vehicle, when the parking brake of the vehicle is applied for a long period of time, for example when the vehicle is stored upon leaving the factory until it is put into circulation, the brake pads of the rear disc brake assemblies may stick to the brake discs, leaving marks on the brake discs.
[0007] This can cause unwanted noise when the vehicle is moving, which is annoying for the user.
[0008] Also, this can affect the performance of brake discs on which the brake pads have left marks. Statement of the invention
[0009] The present invention aims to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks, and to do so relates to a disc brake assembly of a braking system of a motor vehicle, comprising a brake disc, fixed on a hub of a wheel of said motor vehicle, and a brake caliper, supporting brake pads mounted on either side of said brake disc, remarkable in that it comprises a protective film for said brake disc arranged between at least one of said brake pads and said brake disc.
[0010] Thus, by providing for equipping a disc brake assembly with a protective film for the brake disc, arranged between at least one of the pads and the brake disc, the brake pads are no longer in direct contact with the brake disc.
[0011] This prevents the brake pads from sticking to the brake disc when the vehicle's parking brake is applied for a long period, for example when the vehicle is stored after leaving the factory until it is put into circulation.
[0012] This prevents the formation of marks on the brake discs while allowing the parking brake to function properly.
[0013] Thanks to the present invention, the brake pads and discs are thus preserved in their new condition until the vehicle is put into circulation, which makes it possible to improve driving pleasure and to make the braking performance optimal and durable.
[0014] According to optional characteristics of the disc brake assembly according to the invention: - said protective film is fixed on said at least one of said brake pads; - said protective film comprises a protective face of geometric shape complementary to that of said at least one of said brake pads; - said protective face of said protective film is self-adhesive; - the thickness of said protective face of said protective film is between approximately 0.05m and approximately 0.15mm; - said protective film comprises a removal tab extending prominently relative to said protective face.
[0015] The invention also relates to a motor vehicle comprising a braking system comprising at least one disc brake assembly, remarkable in that said disc brake assembly is according to the invention. Brief description of the drawings
[0016] Other characteristics, aims and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the detailed description which follows, for the understanding of which reference will be made to the appended drawings in which:
[0017] [Fig-1] is a perspective view of a disc brake assembly according to the invention.
[0018] [Fig.2] is a longitudinal sectional view of the brake assembly shown in tight position.
[0019] [Fig.3] is a side view of the brake assembly. Description of the embodiments
[0020] In the remainder of the description, elements having an identical structure or similar functions are designated by the same reference.
[0021] Reference is made to [Fig.l] showing a disc brake assembly 1 seen in perspective and to [Fig.2] which is a longitudinal sectional view of the brake assembly 1, shown in the applied position.
[0022] The brake assembly 1 is part of a braking system (not shown) of a motor vehicle (not shown).
[0023] The assembly 1 comprises a brake disc 3, fixed on a hub 5 of a wheel (not shown) of the vehicle.
[0024] The disc brake assembly 1 is mainly intended to equip the rear axle of the motor vehicle, to which the parking brake is applied.
[0025] The disc brake assembly 1 comprises a brake caliper 7 mounted on a steering knuckle 9 by means of a caliper support 11 fixed to the steering knuckle 9.
[0026] The brake caliper 7 supports brake pads 13, mounted on either side of the brake disc 3.
[0027] The brake pads 13 are capable of being moved towards the brake disc by the action of a piston (not shown) supplied by a hydraulic fluid from a hydraulic circuit (not shown) of the braking system when braking is requested by a user or when the parking brake of the vehicle is actuated.
[0028] Thus, when braking is requested by a user, the hydraulic fluid arrives under pressure in the piston, causing the brake pads 13 to clamp against the brake disc.
[0029] According to the invention, the brake assembly 1 comprises a protective film 15 for the brake disc 3, arranged between the brake pads 13 and the brake disc 3.
[0030] Thus, when the parking brake of the vehicle is actuated for a long period, for example when the vehicle is stored upon leaving the factory until it is put into circulation, the brake pads 13 are no longer in direct contact with the brake disc 3.
[0031] In this way, the brake pads 13 are prevented from sticking to the corresponding brake disc 3.
[0032] This makes it possible to avoid the formation of marks on the brake discs 3 of such a disc brake assembly 1, while still allowing the parking brake to operate correctly.
[0033] Thanks to the present invention, the brake pads 13 and the discs 3 are thus preserved in their new condition until the vehicle is put into circulation. Driving pleasure is thus improved and the braking performance is optimal and durable.
[0034] In the embodiment illustrated in the figures, two protective films 15 are arranged between the brake pads 13 and the brake disc 3. However, the assembly 1 according to the invention may comprise only one protective film 15, arranged between one of the two brake pads 13 and the brake disc 3.
[0035] In one embodiment, the protective film 15 is fixed to the corresponding brake pad 13, for example by gluing.
[0036] In one embodiment, the protective film 15 comprises a protective face 17 of which its geometric shape is substantially complementary to that of the corresponding brake pad 13.
[0037] In one embodiment, the protective face 17 of the protective film 15 may be self-adhesive, which allows rapid positioning of the protective film 15 between the brake pad 13 and the brake disc 3, for example on the corresponding brake pad 13.
[0038] In one embodiment, the material of the protective film 15 is designed to allow sufficient clamping of the brake pads 13 against the brake disc 3 to allow proper operation of the parking brake.
[0039] For example, the thickness of the protective face 17 of the protective film 15 is between approximately 0.05m and approximately 0.15mm, for example approximately 0.10mm.
[0040] Reference is made to [Fig.3] showing the brake assembly 1 seen from the side.
[0041] The protective film 15 may include a removal tab 19.
[0042] The removal tab 19 extends, for example, prominently relative to the protective face 17.
[0043] The protective film 15 can for example be positioned between the brake pads 13 and the brake disc 3 at the time of design of the brake assembly 1.
[0044] In particular, when the protective film 15 is attached to the brake pads 13, the attachment of the protective film 15 can take place during the production of the brake pads 13.
[0045] The protective film 15 is removed before the vehicle is put into circulation, for example by a car dealer.
[0046] As goes without saying, the present invention is not limited to the sole embodiments of this disc brake assembly of a motor vehicle braking system and of this motor vehicle comprising such a disc brake assembly, described above solely as illustrative examples, but on the contrary it embraces all the variants involving the technical equivalents of the means described as well as their combinations if these fall within the scope of the invention.
