Title of the invention: Interior trim assembly for a motor vehicle

[0001] The present invention relates to an interior trim assembly for a motor vehicle equipped with an adjustable steering column.

[0002] Such a trim assembly usually includes a dashboard, which has an opening to allow passage of the steering column, the upper end of which protrudes into the vehicle's passenger compartment. The steering column includes a shaft which receives, at one of its ends, a steering wheel inside the passenger compartment.

[0003] Also, the dashboard opening is delimited by an arched upper border, while the trim assembly further includes a rigid shell surrounding the column and extending through the opening in cooperation with the arched upper border.

[0004] Thus, the hull has a lower part and a convex upper part extending under the arched edge.

[0005] In order to conceal the technical elements located behind the dashboard, and in particular the cable channels, fuses and other control devices, a flexible trim, made of a coated textile, is extended between the upper part of the shell and the upper arched edge.

[0011] - a shell surrounding said steering column, said shell having a part lower hull and a convex upper hull portion extending through said opening beneath said arched upper rim; and,

[0012] - a flexible gasket extending between said upper part of the shell and said upper arched border, said flexible trim being adapted to deform when said shell and said steering column are driven into motion relative to said dashboard.

[0013] Also, said upper part of the shell has a side wing forming with said lower part of the shell a housing receiving a locking element for said steering column, and the flexible trim includes a side tab connected to said side wing.

[0014] Thus, a feature of the invention lies in the implementation of a flexible trim piece equipped with a lateral tab, where the body has a projecting lateral wing, and by connecting the lateral tab to said lateral wing. In this way, when the steering column and the body are adjusted in position relative to the dashboard, the wing to which the lateral tab is attached follows its movement and makes it possible to keep the space between the upper part of the body and the upper arched edge covered.

The anchoring elements of the bar are engaged through the anterior edge of the lining and engage through the anchoring slots, as will be explained in more detail later in the description.

Interior trim assembly for a motor vehicle equipped with an adjustable steering column and comprising: - a dashboard (14) having an opening (16) delimited by an arched upper edge (18), said steering column being adapted to extend through said opening; - a shell (12) surrounding said steering column, said shell having a lower shell portion (28) and a convex upper shell portion (30) extending through said opening (16) under said arched upper edge (18); - a flexible trim (32; 32') extending between said upper shell portion (30) and said arched upper edge (18), said flexible trim being adapted to deform when said shell (12) and said steering column are moved relative to said dashboard (14);characterized in that said upper part of the shell (30) has a lateral wing (70) forming with said lower part of the shell (28) a housing (72) receiving a locking element for said steering column; and in that said flexible lining (32') includes a lateral tab (54) connected to said lateral wing (70).

2. Interior trim assembly according to claim 1, characterized in that said side tab (54) has a free end, and in that said free end is connected to said side wing (70).

3. Interior trim assembly according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that said side wing (70) has a rear edge (99) opposite a front edge, and in that said rear edge has hooks (100) adapted to engage in said side tab (54).

4. Interior trim assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that said flexible trim (32') has a rear edge (36) adapted to engage with said arched upper edge (18) of said dashboard (14) and a front edge (34) engaged with said upper part of shell (30).

An interior trim assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that said upper part of hull (30) comprises an anterior arc-shaped part (76) and two posterior lateral branches (78, 80) extending parallel to each other, said lateral wing (70) extending along one (80) of said posterior lateral branches.

6. Interior trim assembly according to claim 5, characterized in that said front part (76) has a rear attachment edge (92) for said flexible trim (32'), said rear attachment edge joining said rear lateral branches (78, 80).

7. Interior trim assembly according to claims 4 and 5 or 4 and 6, characterized in that said flexible trim (32') has a portion (38) running along said front edge (34) and adapted to be extended between said two arms (78, 80).

8. Interior trim assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that said flexible trim (32') is made of a sheet material coated with a polymer material.

9. Interior lining assembly according to claim 8, characterized in that said sheet material is a textile material.

10. Motor vehicle comprising an interior trim assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 9.
