Pouring top for a paint can

Abstract

A ring-shaped pouring top 1 which can be removably secured to an open topped cylindrical container. An upper section 3 forms wall 5 with spout 6. A lower section 4 has a wall of three inwardly stepped engaging surfaces 8 of reducing diameter, preferably having the shape of cone frustum. Each engaging section may be separated by an annular surface 9, which is ideally perpendicular to the engaging surface and may slope downwards as it moves inwards. The pouring top may engage with the entire internal circumference of the cylinder’s upper edge, preferably extending an unbroken 360 degrees. The cylinder is ideally a paint can. One of the engaging surfaces may comprise one or more projections, ideally a rib. The pouring top may be formed from one piece, ideally plastic which may be a thermoplastic, preferably low-density polyethylene. The spout may be a shaped lip, preferably where the widest part of the spout is approximately 1 / 3 the diameter of the top.
