Abstract

A control system for a vehicle comprising a vehicle controller configured to control vehicle operations, one or more vehicle sensors for measuring parameters in an environment external to the vehicle and an electronic memory device comprising a plurality of pre-programmed instructions for initiating vehicle operations. Receiving from an auxiliary input device, a first input signal indicating a desired human input to be input to the vehicle controller 302, and receive, from the one or more vehicle sensors, a second input signal indicative of one or more measured parameters of the environment external to the vehicle 302. In dependence on the second input signal, whether the desired human input results in the vehicle controller initiating a safe vehicle operation 304. In dependence that the human input results in a safe vehicle operation output a control signal comprising the human input 306. In dependence that the desired human input results in a unsafe operation, disregard the first input signal 308 and either output a signal comprising instructions to continue an ongoing operation 310 or select from a memory device a pre-programmed instruction for initiating a vehicle operation 312. Output a signal comprising the selected pre-programmed instruction for initiating the vehicle operation 314.
