Compressor

Abstract

A centrifugal compressor housing, especially for a turbocharger, comprises an inlet passage 26 configured to receive intake fluid. The inlet passage has an inlet opening and defines a central axis. A wheel chamber 17 is in fluid communication with the inlet passage and configured to receive a compressor wheel. An axially extending wall 46 defines at least part of the inlet passage and at least part of the wheel chamber, a recirculation passage 50 is defined between the axially extending wall and an outer wall of the housing. An annular channel 52 extends around the central axis through the axially extending wall. The annular channel fluidly links the wheel chamber to the recirculation passage. The annular channel defines a first end opening 54 and a second end opening 56. The first end opening is disposed radially inward of the second end opening. An axial width of the channel converges from the first end opening. The recirculation passage fluidly links the annular channel and the inlet passage. The centrifugal compressor housing comprises an outlet passage in fluid communication with the wheel chamber.
