Abstract
This invention provides a solid dosage product in the form of ammonia gas (NH3) bioadsorbent granules and a method for making it by utilizing the organic acid content of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi) extract. This bioadsorbent granule consists of a natural polymer carrier matrix component in the form of a combination of sodium alginate and gelatin composites with a weight ratio of 1:1, and an active substance in the form of starfruit extract of 15% w / w to the total weight of the matrix base. The manufacturing method is carried out through an ionotropic gelation technique by dissolving the polymer matrix, mixing the starfruit extract homogeneously using a magnetic stirrer at a speed of 500 rpm and a temperature of 40oC, then dripping the mixture into a 0.1 M calcium chloride (CaCl2) hardener solution to form a porous solid phase cross-link.Based on FTIR analysis, these granules have active sites in the form of functional groups –OH, C=O, and COO- that capture ammonia gas molecules through acid-base interactions into a stable form of ammonium ions (NH4+) and are strengthened by hydrogen bonds. The application of these granules is able to reduce ammonia gas emissions in open poultry farm waste areas with a reduction efficiency of up to 91.3% or until the ammonia level reaches 0 ppm.
